The director of new Oasis documentary Supersonic has admitted he is convinced the band will get back together one day.
Speaking at a special preview screening at Festival No 6 on Sunday night (September 4), Matt Whitecross said: "Neither of them have discounted the idea of getting back together. It will happen, I'm sure. The idea of never seeing them again for me is impossible."
He continued: "Noel said everyone is always coming up to them giving them advice about how they are going to mend this relationship. He's friends with Chris Martin and he said Chris should quit the music business and become a therapist because every week he goes 'Look this is how you are going to patch up the band'. Noel said look no one knows like we know each other and it will happen when it happens but we can't force it. Liam was like 'He's full of shit' and Noel's like 'He's full of shit'."
Whitecross added: "Noel said unless it was an obscene amount of money what would be the point in any of them getting back together. Liam is like 'No fuck it we were great.' So I think they've still got it. They should go out and give it a go. I feel people out there want it so I hope they get it.
Supersonic documents the band's rise to fame over a period of three years up to their career pinnacle at Knebworth and features hours of footage of new interviews with Noel and Liam Gallager, their mother and members of the band and road crew.
Three clips from the film were previewed for the first time ever at the session last night. One clip featured footage of Liam and Noel arm wrestling on the floor before an early Top Of The Pops appearance.
Recent audio footage also plays over the scene with Noel opening up about their relationship.
"(Our relationship) is about a power struggle that's what it is," Noel reveals. "It's about me being in charge and everybody directing everything towards me and Liam being pissed off about it. That's basically what starts it all."
Liam adds: "I think it all boils down to the fact that when he bought a stereo years ago and we shared a room, I think one night I'd come in pissed and I couldn't find the light switch so I pissed all over his new stereo. I think it basically boils down to that. He's held that grudge ever since. Let go over them bridges brother."
Another clip also documents their first experience in Japan and how they experienced Beatle-mania.
"We arrived in Japan and there were like a thousand girls at the airport," Noel explains. "I was like fucking hell. They followed us everywhere, outside hotels, in the fucking foyer, outside your room, in your fucking room, everywhere you went. It was like mania. It was like what we'd always read about."
Liam then says: "Guigs (former bassist Paul McGuigan) wasn't too fussed on it. He was like 'What's the fuss about?' and I said 'Me you fucking lunatic that's what the fuss is about.'"
Supersonic is out in UK cinemas on October 2.

Oasis
Paul Weller
The Jam
Noel Gallagher performed the encore to end all encores as his High Flying Birds brought Festival No 6 to a spectacular close.
When the former Oasis frontman said goodnight after performing his classic B side The Masterplan about an hour into his set the sodden thousands who stayed to the bitter of end of a horrible two days of weather chanted for more.
His wry smile as he walked off the main Festival No 6 stage hinted that they might not be disappointed.
He'd played a few classics from his extensive back catalogue with Liam and the boys and the High Flying Birds including; Champagne Supernova, Half a World Away - another gem a B side - and High AKA..What a Life.
But no Wonderwall we'd get that right?
Well we did, but before that he pulled the most spectacular rabbit out of his hat.
After leaving the crowd on tenterhooks for what seemed like an age he walked back on stage to a deafening roar.
He said: "I don't f''ing believe I'm about to say this: Paul Weller's going to join me on stage."
The place went mental as the Mod God strolled on in immaculate box fresh white sneakers.
I've no idea how he kept them so clean in the mudbath that was Portmeirion.
Paul took centre stage, with Noel providing backing vocals for the Jam classic Pretty Green.
Next up, a Town Called Malice cue bedlam.
And with that, after a polite goodbye and kiss on the back of the neck for Noel he was gone.
I don't think any of the 10,000 or so could quite believe what they just witnessed.
But it didn't end there.
Noel said simply: "Wonderwall - you sing it." And the crowd duly obliged.
He wrapped up with Don't Look Back Anger and as the song came to a close the Festival No 6 organisers released giant white balloons into the crowd in homage to The Prisoner, filmed of course at Portmeirion.
There wasn't a dry eye, a dry anything at that stage as the rain just kept pouring down.
Despite the weather and the chaos it caused at the park and ride the music and entertainment at Festival No 6 is first class and we should never forget that.

The Enemy's Andy Hopkins can't wait for Liam Gallagher's solo album and for the former Oasis frontman to prove to everyone he is one of the "greatest rock 'n' roll" singers of all time.
The bassist and his bandmates - frontman Tom Clarke and drummer Liam Watts - supported Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher on tour on numerous occasions and became friends with the now warring-siblings.
Andy was disappointed to see the end of Oasis in 2009 and was also sad to see Liam's next band Beady Eye dissolve in 2014.
The outspoken hellraiser has now signed a deal with Warner Bros Records UK to release his first solo LP next year and Andy is excited to hear the 'D'You Know What I Mean?' hitmaker's songs and show the world he isn't stuck in Noel's shadow.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, the musician said: "I'll be glad to see Liam put his name in lights. Noel may have written the songs in Oasis but Liam was the town crier and in that band he absolutely crushed it. Liam and Noel defined a generation and Liam has one of the best rock 'n' roll voices of all time, he's up there with the greatest. He's had enough time out and I'm sure he's worked out who his mates are.
"He has so much to offer, remember that track he did with Death In Vegas a few years back, 'Scorpio Rising', that was unbelievable. What I don't want is Liam to become a pastiche of himself and I'm sure he won't because he's too intelligent for that. I want to go out there and get back on stage and show everyone that he is the boss, because he is, Liam is an amazing talent. Noel has done it as a solo artist, don't tell me Liam can't. His voice is so good and he should show people how good he is. We got to know him and he's a top bloke and a real gentleman. Liam is one of the few people who I've met in the music business who has a glow, he has a presence. When he walks in a room you know he's there, he's proper mate."
