The Courteeners Play Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger' Last Night In Manchester

Five days after the Manchester attack, 50,000 people turned out for one of the city's biggest concerts of the year. It was a chance for music fans to unite and remember the victims - but also to get lost in music for a while.

As the gig went on, Fray referred to the week's events again. "Never stop doing what you enjoy," he told the crowd between songs.

Later, he said to them: "I just want to say how incredibly proud I was to be Mancunian this week.

"Hearts were broken on Monday. And what I've seen of this city and you lot will stay with me for the rest of my life."

He recalled a woman who sang Oasis's Don't Look Back In Anger after the one-minute's silence in St Ann's Square on Thursday, with the rest of those present gradually joining in.

Inspired by that woman, Fray played the song that has now become an anthem of the city's resilience. Fifty-thousand voices joined him and echoed around the ground.

Noel Gallagher Says Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger' Is More Important Than He Will Ever Be

Watch (here) as the Oasis legend reflects on his biggest anthem with Radio X's John Kennedy.

Noel Gallagher has discussed the impact of Don't Look Back In Anger, which he says has become something like a "hymn".

When asked about the importance of the 1995 Oasis track, he told Radio X's John Kennedy: "Honestly as the years have gone by, that song is more important than I'll ever be."

"There’s footage on the internet now of people singing it in Manchester with candles and all that," he said, referring to numerous performances made by members of the public following this week's terror attack in the city.

"It is incredible to think that a few generations have attached some kind of importance to that song."

The 49-year-old rocker added: "That song now has become a hymn to something or other".

Talking about performing (What's the Story) Morning Glory? single live,  Gallagher mused: "You sometimes think; 'I probably only need to introduce it and play the first chord. I could probably walk of then and nobody would notice.'

"You know 'cause there's just people with their eyes shut, crying and - yeah. It's an amazing thing. It's something I never take for granted either".

Asked whether penning the 1995 track ever made him feel humbled, he replied: "It makes me feel - is it proud the word I'm looking for?

"I don't ever sit there and think I wrote that. I think it came from somewhere else. If I hadn't written it, Bono would have wrote it".

He concluded: "If they fall out of the sky and land on your lap, then lucky you."

You can hear What A Life! Noel At 50 on Radio X on Sunday 28 May at 8pm.

Noel Gallagher Tells His Kids To Stay Away From Music

Noel Gallagher has told his kids they will never be as good as him. The Oasis legend has three children, including part-time model Anais.

But he’s warned them to stay away from the music industry.

Asked if his two sons will ask to follow his lead, Noel said: “I’d say, ‘Right, pass me that guitar, and I’ll show the benchmark here, son’.

“And I’d play Don’t Look Back in Anger, and then I’d put the guitar down, to almost certainly a deathly silence, and I’d say, ‘Yeah! f***ing dream on, okay! Now, go and put the kettle on!’”

They aren’t allowed tattoos either: “None of my kids would be getting them. I’ve never had any piercings, I just found the whole thing a bit odd, to be honest.”

As ever he’s despondent about the future of indie music.

He told Andy Bush on Absolute Radio: “All is not what it seems on records, these days.

“People don’t really play guitars any more, they wear them.

“There are a lot of moustaches in indie music now, which is completely unforgiveable. When girls start having moustaches in the indie music business, I’m leaving the country.”

Noel also says Manchester will take “quite a while to heal” after Monday’s terrorist attack.

Liam Gallagher Announces Charity Gig For Manchester Terror Attack Victims

Proceeds will go to the Manchester Evening News fund raising appeal for victims.

Liam Gallagher has announced a charity gig in the wake of the Manchester terror attack.

The former Oasis frontman will play the O2 Ritz on Thursday, May 30, with all proceeds going to the Manchester Evening News fund raising appeal for victims.

Twenty two people were killed and dozens were injured after suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated an explosive at Ariana Grande’s Manchester arena concert on Monday night.

Gallagher said he decided to donate all of the proceeds in a bid to “help pick people up”.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News he said: “I just knew I had to. I’m not in it for the money. The gig was going to happen anyway and we all have to do what we can.

“I want to try and help pick people up. People like me, doing what we do, it’s our duty to give people a good time.”

He continued: “It’s outrageous. Just so sad. What can you do? It’s just f****** out of order. There are kids and people dying all over the world. And for what?

“I’d gone to bed early - about 10pm - then got up in the morning to a text from my other brother saying what had gone on and I put the TV on. It’s just unbelievable.”

Gallagher, who hails from the city, was among several stars who paid tribute in the wake of the tragedy.

He tweeted: “In total shock and absolutely devastated about what's gone down in MANCHESTER sending Love and Light to all the family's involved LG x.”

The Manchester date will kick-off Gallagher's mini tour which will see him perform at London’s Electric Ballroom in Brixton, Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and Glasgow Barrowlands.

Gallagher teased a “massive announcement” on Thursday night, telling fans: “The wait is nearly over Brothers n Sisters massive announcement first thing tomorrow morning sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite LG x.”

The news comes days after he announced details about his first solo single, Wall Of Glass.

His debut solo album, which saw him team up with Adele's producer, Greg Kurstin, will be called, As You Were and is slated for release in October.

Tickets go on sale at 9am today.

Is Noel Gallagher's New Album Finished?

Yesterday Reverend & The Makers‏ posted this on the official Twitter page.

Speaking to the NME in April 2016, Noel said that for his third solo record he’ll be mixing things up. “I am doing something different this time, to amuse myself – I am writing in the studio for the first time. As a rule I’ve not allowed myself to go in with any completed songs, so I am writing in there, it’s happening all around me during the day.”

“Usually I’ll go in, play a song, record an acoustic version of it and then I’ll think of something and we’ll head toward it. Everything we do is a forward motion toward that point. When you’re writing in the studio you don’t know where you’re going, so the flavour of it all can constantly shift. It’s a bit chaotic but the end results are great so far.”

May 2016, producer David Holmes told Gigwise .“People are going to be surprised. I think people love Noel and they’re desperate for him to make a really big, bold, uptempo beast of a record – a lot of Noel’s music is quite mid-tempo. This one is quite fun.”

Noel spoke about the as yet untitled album again in an interview in June 2016, saying that it’s shaping up to be a “rock’n’roll record”. “Can I point out that it’s not electronic? Everyone thinks that it’s an electronic record, and it isn’t,” He told Exclaim. “Well, not yet, anyway. The first six tracks aren’t electronic. For some reason they all associate David with electronic music. To be honest, I was hoping we might do something electronic, but it’s turning out to be a rock’n’roll record, which is fine with me".

During an appearance on his pal Russell Brand’s radio show last month Noel let slip that the album is being scheduled for a November release. He confirmed that there will be a track called ‘Instrumental Number Three’.
