Liam Gallagher On Rumours He's Playing Glastonbury

Liam Gallagher has this morning (June 1) responded to rumours of an appearance at Glastonbury Festival later this month.

The former Oasis front-man has been linked to Glastonbury after his name appeared on a line-up poster on the festival’s website before being taken off again moments later.

The Britpop star was talking on Radio X this morning when he was grilled on the Glastonbury speculation.

He was asked by the presenter: “Are you playing Glastonbury?”

To which he replied: “I’m not sure, man. I mean, I’d like to. If they ask us, yeah, I’ll play it.”

Pushed as to whether it was “quite late to be open” (with the festival now under a month away) by the presenter, Gallagher added “I haven’t got a clue man.”

The singer was originally linked with a Worthy Farm appearance after a mysterious tweet revealing a “massive announcement ” appeared on his Twitter page last week.

The announcement turned out to be a mini-tour across Britain , but this only served to fuel rumours of a Glastonbury appearance.

Speculation reached fever pitch when Liam Gallagher was found to have been added to a line-up poster on the Glastonbury Festival website, only to disappear again moments later.

Many people have taken things one step further, and are also linking this turn of events with an Oasis reunion at the festival.

The new issue of Q, out on Tuesday (6th June), gets up close and personal with Liam Gallagher. Two years ago the ex-Oasis frontman looked out for the count but now he’s back with a brilliant new single and he’s got scores to settle. Tom Doyle meets Liam to talk new departures, nerves, Noel and Damon, cheeky teenagers, paparazzi and The Crystal Maze. “I’ve said a lot of shit over the years and I meant every word,” he says.

Also in the new issue, we hit the road with U2 as they revisit their landmark album The Joshua Tree. Stuart Bailie went to Vancouver and Seattle with the Irish rockers, catching up with Bono and The Edge in between. Dave Everley climbs aboard Royal Blood’s tourbus to find out what’s inside the hearts and minds of the tight, two-man rock gang and Andrew Perry sits down with Shaun Ryder and Kermit to talk about the newly-reformed Black Grape.

Elsewhere, Laura Snapes visits Angel Olsen at work in Amsterdam and finds an artist determined to usurp any preconceived notions of being “a sad girl at the bottom of a well,” whilst Sylvia Patterson heads out on tour with Charlotte Church and discovers the former soprano superstar has morphed into a psychedelic Earth Mother on a quest to raise universal consciousness.

Russell Brand is this month’s subject of Cash For Questions, Outkast man Big Boi offers up his 10 Commandments and Michael Kiwanuka shares the albums that changed his life. The The’s Matt Johnson is this issue’s Q Maverick. In the Q Review, we run the rule over new albums from Fleet Foxes, Phoenix, Alt-J, London Grammar, Ride, Kevin Morby and many more. All this and much, much more in the new issue of Q.

Video: Liam Gallagher: On His Show In Manchester

The former Oasis man has been telling Radio X about his first solo live show and how “people shouldn’t stay at home in fear”.

Liam Gallagher has admitted that it was important that he put on a good performance for his first solo live show in Manchester following the terrorist attacks in the city.

The former Oasis man launched his solo career with a gig at the O2 Ritz - just over a week after 22 people were killed in a bombing at the Manchester Arena, following an Ariana Grande.
Speaking to Radio X’s Johnny Vaughan this morning (1 June), Liam said of the homecoming gig: “It was a mad one - and obviously really emotional.

“I just wanted to put on a good performance, because of what had happened. As much as I enjoyed it, I just wanted to do well, do you know what I mean?

“[The gig] went really quick, you couldn’t hear nothing… so I’m not sure if it was one of our best. But sometimes the emotion comes through, the occasion isn’t about playing great or singing great, it’s just about being there, you know what I mean?

“Listen, I live down here in London, I’ve lived down here for 20 years, my kids are down here. My heart’s in Manchester always will be, I will always be a Manc, as they say.”

Speaking as a huge benefit show was announced for the city’s Emirates Old Trafford Stadium on Sunday 4 June, featuring Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Coldplay, Liam added: “Massive respect for the people that came out. It’s good to get back in the saddle, to get back in and not stay at home in fear, you know what I mean?”

Tickets for the One Love Manchester concert, which takes place at the Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday 4 June, will be Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Take That, Niall Horan, Miley Cyrus and Usher. Tickets for the show are on sale now. Radio X will be providing live coverage of the event.

Liam Gallagher plays his second solo show tonight at Brixton’s Electric. Wall Of Glass is available to download now.

“And plus, I wanted to remind everyone he’s an old fart now. You know, the old 1.6m followers, There were people going like that: ‘What? he’s 50?’ I was like that: ‘Indeed. Yes he is.’”

The outspoken rocker added: “But you know I did mean it. He’s my brother, man, and I love him. As much as we get into all the tittle and tattle and that, you know, I wish him well man”.

Liam Gallagher On Playing The Manchester Benefit Concert, Oasis And More

Ex-Oasis frontman addresses speculation that band could reunite at Ariana Grande Manchester benefit concert.

Liam Gallagher has addressed ongoing speculation about a possible Oasis reunion, responding to rumours that the band could reform for the Ariana Grande Manchester benefit concert this weekend.

Relations between Liam and older brother Noel have been strained in the years following the band’s split in 2009, but recently Liam sent Noel birthday wishes for his 50th. This led to rumours of a possible Liam and Noel Gallagher reunion ahead of the frontman’s debut solo show at Manchester’s O2 Ritz last night (May 30). However, after that failed to material, there have been rumours that the band could reunite this Sunday (June 4) instead at the benefit concert held in response to the recent Manchester terror attack.

Unveiling his debut solo single ‘Wall Of Glass’ on BBC Radio 1 earlier this evening (May 31), Liam was asked about the latter rumours, to which he replied: “Mate, I don’t think so. I mean, I’m up for it but I think we’re booked for a gig somewhere. I think we’re playing in Germany, so we’re already booked, but I would have loved to have done it.” Gallagher is indeed set to play Germany’s Rock Im Park and Rock Am Ring this weekend.

Asked about his birthday wishes to Noel, Liam explained: “Yeah, well you know, getting old now ain’t he, you know what I mean.” On whether a reconciliation could be happening, Gallagher added: “No, it ain’t. Everyone knows I love our kid… He doesn’t speak to me, we don’t speak to each other. I’ll speak to him some day. It’s all very sad, but we’ll get over it… I guess it mustn’t be nice for my mam… If Oasis ever got back together… if they do, they do. If they don’t, they don’t. A lot of people go, ‘Oh, leave it in the past, you were great then’. Mate, if we ever got back together, it would be happening. There’d be no dodgy gigs, it’d be bang on. So there is unfinished business there, but we’ll see what happens. In the meantime, we’re two little solo boys doing our little things innit.”

On what advice he would offer his kids if they were to form a similar sibling band, Liam said: “Go out and have fun, man, it’s the best gig in the world being in a band with your brother, whether you get on or not.” He added: “They’d have to split the wonga 50-50. They couldn’t be doing what our kid. We can’t be having that, [one living] in a £20 million house and the other poor kid living in a £10 million house.”

Liam Gallagher On His New Single, Going Solo, Guitar Music And More

Liam Gallagher's been chatting to MistaJam as he releases solo material for the first time.

He appeared on BBC Radio 1 to premier his new single, Wall of Glass. It was a world exclusive first play.

When asked about the comeback, the former Oasis and Beady Eye frontman said he'd got bored of "sitting round the house".

MistaJam described the single as "timeless Liam Gallagher", but very 2017.

Talking about the comeback, Gallagher said "it doesn't feel so weird, it's not as weird as what I thought it would feel.

"It feels alright because it's not like me standing there with a guitar or acoustic guitar, it pretty much sounds like the bands I've been in before. I'm not sat at a piano or 'out like that, d'ya know what I mean. So it seems pretty normal."

He performed his first ever solo gig in Manchester last night, donating the profits to those affected by last week's Manchester bombing.

He told MistaJam he wouldn't go out of his way to try and reach a new or younger audience but that the younger fans seem to be coming without even trying.

"Like last night, the gig in Manchester, there were a lot of young people in there, d'ya know what I mean. Like lots of hair everywhere."

He was also asked about rumours that he might be playing in Sunday's One Love Manchester gig.

"I'm up for it but I think we're playing in Germany so we're already booked. But I would have loved to have done it."

Responding to the first play of the single for MistaJam's Hottest Record In The World, he said "it feels good, it's nice to hear it on the radio, considering I don't know what day it is - it sounds alright.

"For me it's just a rock n roll tune, guitar music. I think a lot of people try and re-invent the wheel. I've heard it all before, I'm sure everyone else has heard it before. I hope people like it anyway, if not, go and buy something else."

Gallagher's not impressed by any guitar music that's around at the moment though. "I'm not digging guitar music or anything, there's not much out there" he told MistaJam.

And on the comparison between Wall of Glass and old Oasis material he said "it's got a lot of swagger man, it's got a bit of a stomp and I'd say it's got a bit more of a groove than a lot of Oasis songs, cos we were not really groovy."
