Liam Gallagher On Primal Scream

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about Primal Scream, he said he's seen them a few times and expressed his love for Bobby Gillespie.

"I was trying to remember the first time I saw primal Scream, and I thought it was at this festival up in Glasgow. Slam, I think it was called. It was around the time of Screamadelica, I think, and we'd done a load of Es and gone up there, but they weren't playing: we just walked in to one of the tents, and the DJ started playing 'Come Together', and all I remember is thinking 'What the fuck is this?' It was just... the bollocks, man.

He added "And I saw them a few times since I've been in London. I love Bobby Gillespie, man, he's a dude. I went down to The Bunker a few times, there old studio in primrose Hill. I know there's a story about us jamming with the guy from Can - I don't remember him, but apparently we had a little jam. I obviously can't play anything, so I must have sat in the corner talking absolute shit on drugs."

Liam Gallagher On Yoko Ono

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about Yoko Ono, he said "She was nice, really nice to me".

He said "I went to the Dakota once, I was in a hotel, and one of my mates went 'You should try and meet Yoko,' It was when (my son) Lennon was born or a couple of months after, I went, 'nah, I'm not into all that bollocks, meeting people.' And he's like, 'Just let me make a call.' So he does it, and then he goes 'You'll never guess what's happened. They've just got back and said do you want a morning meeting or an evening meeting?' I was sat at the bar, going 'Leave it out.' So for a joke I said, I'll have a morning meeting. Next morning. I'm having breakfast and he's like 'We've got to go, it's on.' We were at a hotel down the road, so I had a quick little quick drink to calm my nerves, walked up the roadand the geezer's going 'Can I help you, sir?' and I went. 'yeah it's Mr Gallagher.' So we go through the forecourt into this little lift, one of those old wind-up lifts".

He added "We go to her floor - I won't say what floor she's on - press the number, and she opened the door. She's like 'D'you want a cup of tea?' and we start talking. She was nice, really nice to me. On one of her banners it says "While I've been hibernating I've been gathering wings'. I've been trying to get that in a song for ages. I could never get it in, but I got it on 'I've All I need' on the new album. Got it in, man. After all these years."

Liam Gallagher On The La's

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about the La's, and said that the band were as important to him as The Stones Roses.

"The La's were as important to me as The Stones Roses, without a doubt. Those two to me are like The Beatles and the Stones of my generation. Just as a frontman for me, and his look, Lee Mavers is up there with Ian brown. Amazing songwriter, but he was a proper, proper frontman as well. he's got a Marley thing. i think. I met him a few times, he's always a bit spikey and that, but I'm still intrigued by him, which is the most beautiful thing".

He added "He's gonna be like Prince when he pops his clogs: he's going to have like an Aladdin's cave, with all sorts of mad albums, but he just doesn't want to get caught up in all the razzamatazz, which is fair enough. The thing about lee Mavers is that he's not being bought. he's not for fucking sale. I love that about him. But at the same time , I wish we could hear more music by him. It's like 'All right, you're not for sale and you're not having a sale, but at least open the shop doors every now and again.'"

Liam Gallagher On Paul Weller

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about Paul Weller, he said that he was into a lot of his stuff and that in the 90s he was madder than me and Noel put together.

He said "My other brother Paul was more into The Jam, when we were all living at home. He was massive on them. I really like The Jam as well, but I remember when he came out with his solo stuff, that was what I really got into, when he was doing 'Into Tomorrow' and things like that. After that I was into a lot of his stuff. I remember I went to see him at the Apollo with Steve Cradock around 'Wild Wood' and it was amazing. Amazing voice, amazing songs. He Looked like an honorary Manc at the time. I thought he looked really cool. I like him then, I still like him now. All his new stuff is great: that thing he did for that boxing film recently (Jawbone), mega. we hung around him a lot, obviously, when Oasis kicked off".

He added "He was Noel's mate, but I got on with him, without a doubt, top geezer. he used to tell me to keep writing songs, keep going with it, and he always into my voice. I think. He digs it. And he was mad as fuck. In the 90s he was madder than me and Noel put together, I'm telling you: he was wild."

Liam Gallagher On His Love For 'The Verve'

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about one of his favourite bands The Verve, he said that he loved them and that they don't make bands like them anymore.

"The first time I saw The Verve was in Manchester, at the Hop & Grape or somewhere like that. They were fucking heavy in the early days. I loved touring with them with Oasis. Whereas we were a bit more punky, they were out there: more a jam thing. I just remember Ashcroft having his socks and shoes off and all that. I saw Richard recently, we were both doing a gig in Finland: he was on fire. His voice has got really gnarly. and he was on his hands and knees, good energy about him".

He added "A lot of people, proper verve heads, didn't like 'Urban Hymns' but I think there's some amazing songs on that. Before they didn't have that 'Blue' is an amazing song, but all the songs on 'Urban Hymns' are great. I remember when it was kicking off for them, we were in America, and hearing about it. It was like. 'What's going on with this? better get back to England and sort this shit out.' But I loved them, I really did. They don't make them like that anymore."

NME Gold: Liam Gallagher is on sale now.

Liam Gallagher On The Best Gig He's Played This Year

In the latest issue of Q Liam Gallagher was asked what is the best gig he's played this year? Was it the Manchester concert for the victims of the bombing?

He said "Yeah, there's been some good ones. But (with our own shows) Glastonbury was great. I'm not sure if we were great but sometimes the occasion takes over, the crowd make it special, and that was one of them. We've done some really good ones when there weren't many people there, but let's not talk about that (laughs)... So Glastonbury".
