ADIDAS ORIGINALS X OASIS

THE BRAND. THE BAND. THE LEGACY LIVES ON.

AFTER 30 YEARS OF SHARED HISTORY, adidas Originals and OASIS join forces to celebrate an undisputed connection rooted in music, fashion and British identity. Original Forever is more than a campaign. It’s a nod to a moment, a movement and a time that defined it all.

With the return of the band for Live 25’, the collaboration brings a new era of looks into the now, reworking era-defining silhouettes with a modern edge. From Firebird tracksuits to classic jerseys and jackets, the Live 25’ collection honours the past while living in the present.

This film captures a journey from the city streets to stadiums, 90s anthems to the now. It’s a tribute to two brothers, two icons, one band, and a brand that’s been with them every step of the way.

LIVE FOREVER. ORIGINALS FOREVER.

This release is available exclusively via the adidas app. Download the app now for free to shop.

Alan McGee “Oasis Is Now Cross-Generational”

Taken from the new issue of MOJO that is on sale now.

Former Creation boss  Alan McGee on the mad rise and long legacy of  the band he signed.

When I signed Oasis, I don’t think I really realised what they had, songs-wise. I didn't even hear Live Forever until two or three months into our involvement. I was on the beach in Maui, and a UPS guy came and found me and gave me a cassette. I put it in my Walkman, and it was Live Forever!

Noel used to sit around my flat, just me and him, and he would look at me and go, “We are the best band in the world!” In my head, I’m thinking, It’s just me and you talking, you can calm down, there’s no journalist here. But that’s how mad that band was. And it actually ended up being true. They were absolute f*cking superstars. The obvious highlight was being sent the cassette of Wonderwall. They’d been recording [What’s The Story] for one week, and the songs came in this order: Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger, and then a couple of others.

I put it on, and there was Wonderwall, and I went, F*ck, we’re going to do it – if we’ve not already done it, we’re doing it! It was unbelievable. The beautiful thing about Oasis for me now is that it’s cross-generational: you meet people’s 18-year-old sons and daughters, and they love Oasis. Now they have longevity, and it really is a bit like The Beatles – they’ve just got the songs.

My three favourites are Slide Away, then Acquiesce, and Stay Young: (sings) “Stay young and beautiful...” I’m going to play it now on Spotify, man!I look back on everything with fondness and wonder – of course I do. What a great time, and we managed to all survive it. I’m still in music, managing people. I’m in touch with Noel, he’s a great guy. And Liam has been very kind to my bands. He has given Cast [who McGee now manages] the 19 stadium shows – so, respect, know what I mean?

Noel Gallagher On How His Lyrics Evolved Over Time

Taken from the new issue of MOJO that is on sale now.

Noel’s lyrics have taken some stick, often from NOEL. Here’s his take on them.

"I like the lyrics to Morning Glory. “Tomorrow never knows what it doesn’t know too soon” – what the fuck does that mean? Well I don’t f*cking know. I only wrote it. But those lyrics, they were tied up in the times, and every-thing around that time was vital. I couldn’t sit and write lyrics like that now, because there’s too much baggage and you second-guess yourself as you get longer into it. Between Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants and Heathen Chemistry, I kind of fell into the trap of trying to sum up the meaning of life in every f*cking song. Since then I’ve rediscovered my interest in watching the clock go around or queuing up for a pint of milk.

Some of that stuff, you had to be there. Most of the songs I write, they’re there, in my head, music and lyrics. When it comes the time to commit it to paper, it’s just a matter of filling in the gaps for Liam. All the lyrics to Morning Glory were just in the air. I’d have the first line of every verse, and the chorus I’d have. All the lyrics to that were written when I was 22, 23.

There were lines that would tie all the songs together that were written, for want of a better word, in the f*cking Britpop madness. But it would be wrong to say that I wrote a song about what was happening at the time. I’d never be able to look myself in the mirror. Write a song about being famous?"

Andy Bell On The Enduring Sonic Properties Of Oasis

Taken from the current issue of MOJO that is on sale now.

"Ride were recording in late ’93, early ’94, and that’s when I first saw them and we heard the tape. I heard Bring It On Down, and to me it sounded like The Jesus And Mary Chain. I didn’t think Beatles or Sex Pistols or anything; I heard Mary Chain first, and then everything else afterwards.

It was like, Oh yeah! Pop songs and distortion! The fourth Ride album, which happened after that, where we sort of fell apart in the studio and split up, I was really trying hard to put all the distortion and energy back into it again.

The sound of Oasis is like a big rhythm guitar... a solid wall. If you play a bass line that takes it away from the frequency you hear in the rhythm guitar, then you’re playing it wrong. If the drums get away from a piledriving beat, then you’re doing it wrong as well. It all should sound like it’s got a forward momentum.

Sometimes it can be slow like a juggernaut or a battle-ship, and sometimes it can be fast like a Lamborghini, but it’s the same intense, driven sound. When you’re getting a song together, if you do it a shade too fast, you lose all the menace of it. If you do it just that bit too slow, it gets really evil, and that’s good. With the music, Liam and Noel both go on instincts.

Even though Noel’s more patient and takes more time with things, and Liam is more living in the moment, they’ve both got the same instincts, and they trust them all the time".

Cast’s John Power On Passing The Torch To Oasis And Getting It Back

Taken from the current issue of MOJO that is on sale now.

I’d met Noel when he was working with the Inspiral Carpets and they opened for The La’s. When I left The La’s, I went to see them play in Manchester, kind of to make peace with it all, really.

I was having a smoke and a bit of a moment, and this little lad came bouncing over and asked us to give him a toke. I said, “I’m just having a bit of a moment, mate, do you mind?” About three years later I went to see Oasis and Liam came straight over to me and was like: “You told me to fuck off!” It was Liam!
We had a laugh about it, then I went to see Noel and played him the demos for Cast that I’d recorded that day, and he loved them. One of them was [1995 track] Sandstorm. He asked us if we’d open for them. It was opening for Oasis at The Venue in New Cross that got Cast signed by Polydor.

From Irvine Beach to Knebworth, we’ve been there. When they announced the Oasis shows there was a lot of talk about who was going to support. We’d come off the back of the Liam shows and there was a lot of gossip flying around but I’d made my peace with it. As they say, don’t put your life in the hands of a rock’n’roll band. I wasn’t expecting it, but when we got the call to open for them it was amazing. It’s beautiful to  be part of it.

Bono Says Noel Gallagher Is 'Shocked' At How Good Oasis Are Sounding In Rehearsals

Bono has said that Noel Gallagher is “shocked” at how good Oasis are sounding ahead of their Oasis Live '25 gigs.

The sold out tour starts in Cardiff on July 4th.

Speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music 1, and said how he thinks both Liam and Noel had an unmistakable impact on the indie music scene.

“I love them. I just love them. And what I really love is, the preciousness that had gotten [into] indie music, they just blew it out. There was just the swagger, and the sound of getting out of the ghetto, not glamorising it.”

He added “They’re both funny. I’m still very close with Noel, and he sent a message to me saying he’s kind of shocked by how great the band is [sounding at rehearsals]. I think we’re going to have a good summer.”

“I remember what they did. Those big guitars, big Neil Young [inspired], generous sounds – they were against the law in the UK. But they were like ‘No, I’ll do what I want’. They had this rhythmic, beautiful quality to them… and Manchester was very influenced by dance music, so they were groovier than anybody, they were rawer than anybody.”
