Q&A Pretty Green

Liam Gallagher's Pretty Green is no ordinary celebrity brand.

Forget cheap fabrics and logo T-shirts, Pretty Green is making a name for itself as a credible menswear brand where the bottom line is always quality.

Since its launch in June 2009 the brand has gone from strength to strength, with sales steadily increasing despite the recession.

We decided to find out what's so special about Pretty Green, so we caught up with two of the brand's key people: Nick Holland, design director, and Dean West, global sales manager.

Read our Q&A with Nick and Dean for an inside view on the success story that is Pretty Green. Celebrity designers in the making, take note:

Q: How would you sum up the Pretty Green brand?
DEAN: It's Liam Gallagher's contemporary British heritage brand which takes its influences directly from streetwear culture from the past.

Q: How well do think it reflects Liam's personal style?
DEAN: It's very much his signature. It's got his DNA written all over it you can see him wearing absolutely every piece. The black label is much more at the pointy end of fashion and that reflects Liam at his most fashionable, and green label is very much him looking casual. There isn't a piece in the collection that he wouldn't wear himself.
NICK: What is great about Pretty Green is that it regularly references Liam’s iconic style without being controlled by it. The 1960s mod scene is a huge influence for the Green Label. The Black Label takes this look and translates it into a highly tailored product which is contemporary with a foot in the past but also in the present day. The Pretty Green Liam Gallagher: Pretty Greencustomer likes to dress sharp, stylish and is not influenced by fashion trends, preferring classic, strong styles and high quality fabrics.

Q: How involved is Liam in the design process?
NICK: Liam is involved in every stage of the process when it comes to the designing both the Green and Black Label Collections. It's a simple yes or no. It's in or it's out, if it's right it's in, if it's not it's out. You know exactly where you stand - Liam knows exactly what he wants and is very particular about what is put in the final collections - down to the minutest detail… Liam has a great eye for what will work and what will not.

Q: What is Liam like to work with?
NICK: Liam is a pleasure to work with. He is punctual, funny and extremely passionate about Pretty Green, and is very decisive in what he wants from the end product, which helps greatly and saves time and money. We are starting to look into clothes for the film he is doing, The Longest Cocktail Party, which Pretty Green are providing the styling for. Liam knows what's right and wrong and the team of researchers we have onboard should make it a great project for Pretty Green to be involved with.

What's the secret of Pretty Green's success?
NICK: We aren't endorsed by a celebrity, Liam owns the company as the major shareholder so there is a difference, I believe. I also strongly believe it's down to a fantastic team involved with Pretty Green who are without doubt experts in their fields and highly driven to succeed which is critical to succeed.
DEAN: We've captured the hearts and minds of the nation and the boys in this country. Everywhere that sells it is flying it out. People are asking for it all the time. I think it just encapsulated the whole of that look that the British lads like to wear.

What's next for the brand?
NICK: This year we opened pop-up stores in Carnaby Street, Manchester and Glasgow and I know we are looking to expand into other cities in 2011. My department is Design, there is a whole team who strategise about where we are going next, but I do anticipate 2011/2012 being exciting times in Pretty Green.
DEAN:We've got a footwear collection coming out early 2011, we've got shades coming out and we've got more accessories coming.

So is there a chance Pretty Green will branch into womenswear? Nick told us: "We may release a capsule collection next year but currently focused on menswear."

Here's hoping…

Liam Gallagher On Beady Eye's 'Bring The Light'

Liam Gallagher has said that 'Bring The Light' didn't take him long to write.

He said "I just got on the guitar and booted it around the room a bit, and then took it to them lot. And it got the nod. It was recorded quick. We had this version that was a bit Stonesy and a bit sluggish. So we went home and pulled out a few Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent records and thought 'That's the way to go.' It's a bit Pistols and Velvets an' all. I like the fact there's hardly any guitars on it. You're not meant to be scratching your chin to it. You're meant to be jumping up and fucking down. It's got a little theme. Bring the light. Fucking sort this shit out".

Liam told the NME recently that he was not happy about the release of his bands debut track 'Bring The Light' being released as a free download back in November. Which saw more than 350,000 fans download the giveaway in just a day.

"It got everybody off the sofa and humping around like a bunch of fucking monkeys. And that's what we're after," he explained. "It wasn't my idea to give it away for fucking nothing though. I'll tell you right now, I wasn't having that."

Beady Eye recently announced they will be playing 2011's Isle Of Wight Festival. The festival - whose illustrious history includes headliners such as band favourites Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Paul Weller - takes place over the weekend of June 10th-12th.

Beady Eye will be playing Sunday 12th before Kasabian's headline slot.

Pretty Green are excited to announce that Liam Gallagher will be heading to Glasgow on Friday 7th January to officially open the temporary store on Ingram Street.

Due to adverse weather conditions in Scotland last month, Liam’s original plans to open the store had to be rescheduled until now.

The store has already proved to be a massive success since opening on December 8th and is set to follow that of the Carnaby Street and Manchester store.

Liam Gallagher will be opening the Glasgow store, Unit 3, GPO Building, Ingram Street, G1 1DG at 1.30pm.

Liam Gallagher "Noel Wanted Out, And That's The Way It Is"

Liam Gallagher has told Uncut that he does not know anything about his brother's solo project, as he has not seen him or spoke to him since Oasis split in Paris in August 2009.

Speaking on his brothers future plans he said "It's all very hush-hush 'round his camp. I put up with 18 years of that fucker so I'm arsed what he's doing. I'm sure it will be all very civilised and grown-up. One of those gigs you can really stroke your chin at. With four rent-a-Scousers wearing shell-suits. This is the whole fucking myth, mate. Me and him never really spent any time with each other. He did the soundcheck. I walked onstage, had it, went backstage, had a drink. He'd go to his room... fuck knows what he'd get up to there, probably putting women's clothes on.

I've heard his fucking new record 'cos I fucking sung on half of it. When I was in America for Dig Out Your Soul. And he swiped some off 'cos he obviously knew he wanted to do a solo album. So he can talk all the bullshit about "Oh, I was intimidated," and all that. Fucking nonsense. Behave. He knows. The people know. And I know. So no - it's not better. And it won't get any fucking better.

Man, just 'cos someone else wasn't having a good time in Oasis... there was good times to be had. I had a fucking great time. But the bigger you get the harder it is to move and groove. People expect this or that so it's hard to nip about. Now we're like a little Mini. We can dart about a bit more. Before, we were just a big fucking fat Bentley - it might feel nice but it's fucking hard work to drive. The reason we're doing this is 'cos we wanna do it, not 'cos we have to. I've got fuck all to prove. We've made an album and the next thing to do is play it to the people. I don't beg anyone to listen to it. I don't beg anyone to fucking buy it".

Liam's new band Beady Eye release their eagerly anticipated debut album ‘'Different Gear, Still Speeding'’ on 28th February 2011 on Beady Eye Records. The album features 13 brand new songs written by the band and was recorded at RAK Studios in autumn 2010 with producer Steve Lillywhite

A taster for the album, ‘Bring The Light’, was made available for fans in November from the bands official site beadyeyemusic.com and was downloaded or played over 350,000 times in 24 hours.

What Will Be The Big Albums Of 2011?

Some big comebacks are scheduled for 2011 including Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Foo Fighters, plus debuts from Bruno Mars and Willow Smith.

Beady Eye - Different Gear, Still Speeding - 28th February

"It's just rock 'n' roll, we ain't gone dubstep or anything," Liam Gallagher told the BBC recently, stopping to boast, "I'm singing great at the moment."

Anyone expecting a radical reinvention from Noel's younger brother post-Oasis is mistaken.

Beady Eye will play small venues, with a setlist without any Oasis tracks if rumours are to be believed, and start like a brand new band. It all sounds very Kinks, Beatles and Rolling Stones.

It's sure to have the critics divided but by now we know Gallagher's confidence is unknockable.
