Liam Gallagher On What Noel Gallagher Track And More He Would Have On His Jukebox

Liam Gallagher has told the new issue of MOJO what tracks he would have on his jukebox, he picked tracks from the Bee Gees, Sex Pistols, Oasis and his brother Noel.

An extract from the current issue of MOJO.

What would be on Liam’s jukebox?

The Roses, the Mondays, the Stones. All the classics, man. Bee Gees – there’s a tune, Horizontal I think it was on, or Idea... (sings) “Where would I be without my woman? ” Lonely Days! [Actually from 2 Years On, 1970] Yeah, they're mega. Who else? Neil Young. Sex Pistols - Bodies. The beginning of Bodies has never been beaten. I’ve met Johnny Rotten a few times. A cocky fucker. He was alright, then he was a cunt, then he was alright then he was a bit of a cunt. I'd actually have preferred it if he was just a cunt!  what’s this‘all right business?

An Oasis song?

Hmm. I always loved Live Forever, Champagne Supernova, got a soft spot for Supersonic,’cos it was the first one and it still sounds pretty good. Some of it hasn’t aged well – I’ll be honest. I hear it
some days and I go, “Turn that shit off.” Oasis was a moment in time.

A solo Noel Gallagher song?

Oooh no! I dunno. I tell you what, that one he did with The Chemical Brothers [Setting Sun], that’s a tune. (Shouts) That’s what he should be doing! Not that fucking stupid stuff he’s doing at the moment. He sounds like Dolly Parton’s just dropped a pill for the first time. Woo-hoo-hoo! And I know it’s me being cunt-ish, but fuck it, it’s only fun, innit?! I don’t wish him any harm. You know that. The best thing about the music business at the moment is that me and our kid are still here! We’ve come full circle. Whereas we used to slag every fucker off, now we’re just going, ‘There’s no one else to slag off – how about me and you?!’ Take me and our kid out of it and it’s boring as fuck! Everyone’s far too nice.

Who would have laid money 25 years ago on the pair of you still being here?

Totally man. We shouldn’t even be here … (mad scally voice) “You shouldn’t be in ’ere!” And we
shouldn’t be in here – but we fucking are. So get on with it.

The new issue of MOJO is out now in stores and available digitally.

Liam Gallagher On Beady Eye, Oasis, His New Music And More

A few of the questions and answers from Liam Gallagher's interview that features in the new issue of MOJO.

It's available now in stores and digitally.

Why do you think Liam Gallagher sells out arena tours when Beady Eye couldn’t?

Hmm. I think some of the songs I wrote in Beady Eye were great. And I think the songs I’m doing [now] are great as well. Maybe it was too soon after Oasis. And people needed a breather from me. Maybe the name didn’t connect. But maybe we just weren’t good enough. I dunno. ’Cos I’m not doing anything different. But I’m into cycles, and maybe in that four years off, music changed
a bit. Maybe it’s just luck.

Maybe Oasis had run their natural cycle?

I guess so. Listen, who fucking knows? I still think we could have banged out a good album, but… how long were we together? It’s like anything, it does become tiresome at some point. Noel had
calmed his partying down a bit, turned into a bit of a Victor Meldrew, whereas we were all still having it… So maybe he’d just had enough and needed a break. Y’know, we weren’t that fucking
great anyway. We were all right, y’know, we were better than a lot of shit out there, but we weren’t pushing the boundaries, we weren’t Pink Floyd or The Beatles. We didn’t make really great
records, we were just a good band.

Given all the bad blood that’s been shed, would you even want to do Oasis again?

Ohh, I’d fucking love to, mate. Oasis is in my blood, that’s what I am, that’s what I do. Listen – I’m quite happy doing what I’m doing. I’m buzzing off it. But if it happens, and he comes to
his senses, I’m ready to go. We’ll see. I think he’s snookering himself now anyway. The geezer’s puddled. Even if he did wanna do it, he can’t do it. If he makes a record that sounds remotely like Oasis he’s gonna get stick for it – people are gonna go, “Why don’t you get your brother back?” So he’s got to veer off and do something that’s totally nothing like it. But I’m ready to go, man, any time he fucking comes to his senses, we’ll have it.

Do you get the same excitement making ‘Liam Gallagher’records you had making‘Oasis’records?

Yeah. With Oasis, you’d be in there and you’d be watching the song grow. You wouldn’t have much input, except when you were singing. If you ever piped up to say,“Eh, how about this?”, Noel would give you the fucking death stare. But now, I’ve got a bit more input doing my tunes with the lads in America. I’ve always got a few ideas knocking about. Mainly verses .And I have good titles,I give
myself that".

Do you have the final say?

Oh, I’m not putting anything out  that I’m not feeling. If I’m not
digging it,we bin it off. ’Cos I’m one who’s got to put it in the back
of the net.

Noel Gallagher Picks His Album Of The Decade

Noel Gallagher has picked his Album Of The Decade for Music Week he picked the self-titled debut album from Jungle that was released in 2014 on XL Recordings.

He said "I liked Young Fathers, but I'd pick that first Jungle record if push comes to shove. I listen to that as an album a lot. Otherwise I fall into the same trap as everybody else. It's like, 'I'll have that, and I'll have that, and I'll have that…’ and I'll flick through things but I'm not really interested – which is why the album is going to die."
