Oasis Cancel Paris Concert After Gallaghers Fight

British rock group Oasis cancelled a scheduled appearance at a music festival near Paris at the last minute on Friday after a fight between Noel and Liam Gallagher, organisers said.

The management of the Rock en Seine festival claimed that the group "no longer exists" after the alleged fight between its founding members, but there was no announcement from the band on their official website.

Several minutes before they were due to take to the stage in Saint-Cloud on Friday, a spokesman for the organisers announced to the crowd that Liam and his brother "had a fight backstage."

The spokesman added: "The group no longer exists. They will not play tonight and they are cancelling the rest of their European tour."

Oasis also pulled out of a concert last Sunday at the V Festival in Britain, with organisers saying Liam Gallagher had lost his voice, but there were rumours that he and his brother were having the latest in a string of feuds.

On Monday, Liam used his Twitter feed to rubbish rumours that the band were splitting up.

Oasis to split? Definitely... maybe

Oasis have cancelled their second gig in the space of a week because of "an altercation within the band", it was announced.

They were expected to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris but the crowd were told by Bloc Party, who were due to perform before Oasis, the Manchester band would not be taking the stage.

Many of the crowd thought it was a joke - until the big screens at either side of the main stage showed the message "As a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled".

Oasis Concert Cancellation Fuels Split Rumours

Oasis have cancelled their second gig in the space of a week because of “an altercation within the band”, it was announced tonight.

They were expected to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris but the crowd were told by Bloc Party, who were due to perform before Oasis, the Manchester band would not be taking the stage.

Many of the crowd thought it was a joke – until the big screens at either side of the main stage showed the message “As a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled”.

Ben Clover, 28, who travelled from south London for the festival said: “I was hoping to see the band on the top of their game – now I am not sure we will ever see them perform live again.

“There are a lot of British Oasis fans who have come over for this gig and they are very disappointed.”

Last weekend the band pulled out of the V Festival in Chelmsford which they were meant to headline.

The band pulled the plug on their show at the annual music event because frontman Liam Gallagher was struck down with viral laryngitis.

However, their non-appearance sparked rumours they were set to split.

Earlier this month Liam revealed his relationship with his brother, Noel, is so bad they no longer speak, travel separately on tour and only see each other onstage.

North London 80s favourites Madness – who played the festival earlier today - stood in for Oasis.

Oasis Are A Hit With Bridlington Fans

Better than Wembley!

That was the verdict of some of the 3,500 Oasis fans who packed out the Spa's Royal Hall last Thursday to watch the Mancunian rockers strut their stuff.

From the rousing opener Rock And Roll Star through to Noel's acoustic version of Don't Look Back In Anger, Oasis didn't disappoint.

Their set list was finely balanced between their early material and more recent hits and quieter moments such as Half The World Away proved as popular as the anthemic tracks including Live Forever and Roll With It.

Rumours that the volatile Gallagher brothers are not on speaking terms may have proved true as their interaction was at a minimum but that didn't take away from their performance as the crowd lapped up Liam's arrogant strutting and Noel's quiet workmanship.

A couple of lucky fans even managed to grab a real piece of the action as Liam flung his tambourine and microphone into the crowd before swaggering off stage towards the end.

Noel almost stole the show with an intimate acoustic rendition of Don't Look Back In Anger which had the whole crowd euphorically singing along.

Not to be outdone, Liam returned to launch into an epic performance of Champagne Supernova.

The show closed with I Am Walrus, which left the sweat-drenched fans at the front of the stage crying out for more.

Outside the venue an elated group of fans who had travelled from London to see the show claimed it was better than watching the band perform at Wembley stadium.

"It was sublime," said 21-year-old Londoner Riki Doyle.

"The whole night was amazing, the atmosphere in the town beforehand was fantastic and the venue blew us away.

"I watched them at Wembley but this was much better!"

His friend Liam Barton, 24, who had also made the long journey from London, agreed, saying: "I was on my friend's shoulders and Liam looked right at me and smiled. That just doesn't happen in the big venues. It was amazing."

Kayleigh Wales, 19, from Leeds, paid £200 on eBay for two tickets to the show and said it was well worth it. "It was fantastic. It was the first concert I'd ever been to and I just loved it."

Coun Jane Evison, portfolio holder for cultural services, housing and public protection for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said bringing Oasis to The Spa Bridlington was a "massive coup".

Jo Clarke, the venue's sales and customer services manager agreed.

She said: "This was the biggest and best rock concert to come to Bridlington in the Spa's lifetime and from the minute the band came on, the roar of the crowd was amazing.

"The comments from the crowd showed that people were amazed to be in a room of that size with a band of that magnitude.

"People who had seen them up and down the country were saying this was the best venue they had been to because they were so close that they felt they could reach out and touch them rather than watching them on a screen."

Jo said the band loved the venue and the Spa is now looking forward to welcoming more big names including Paul Weller, Placebo, the Prodigy and The Specials.

Robbie Williams Tops MTV Superstar Poll

Robbie Williams had the edge on his chart-topping former bandmates Take That today as he was named the greatest superstar in music.

Williams, who is about to hit the comeback trail, nudged his old pals into second place in a poll of music fans by MTV.

He even proved more popular than late Michael Jackson – despite the huge interest in his songs following his death – who was pushed into third place in the MTV’s Greatest Superstar list.

Despite his low profile since the release of 2006’s 'Rudebox' album, Williams rocketed ahead of Take That who have enjoyed a massive wave of interest and success since reforming.

The singer is about to return to the fray with the release of a single 'Bodies' in October and a new album 'Reality Killed The Video Star' in November.

Girls Aloud are the highest-ranked female stars in the list – voted by MTV viewers and counted down in a programme to be screened by the station on Saturday, MTV’s Greatest Superstars. They finished fifth, ahead of nearest placed Beyonce (8) and Pussycat Dolls (9). Madonna was ranked only 18th.

Rock giants U2 weigh in at 16, while Oasis are 10th.

Here are the top 20 stars:
01. Robbie Williams
02. Take That
03. Michael Jackson
04. The Killers
05. Girls Aloud
06. The Prodigy
07. Red Hot Chili Peppers

Quiet Liam Gallagher

Photographer Lorenzo Agius has revealed shooting Liam Gallagher and his then-partner Patsy Kensit for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in 1997 did not go as he had expected.

Liam Gallagher 'couldn't handle' being pictured at the height of his fame. Renowned photographer Lorenzo Agius shot the Oasis singer and his then-partner Patsy Kensit for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine in 1997, and has revealed the musician was much quieter than he had expected.

He said: 'At that point he was at his most rebellious and angry and was annoyed with anyone fussing around him. He couldn't handle it.' Lorenzo - who was also behind the famous black and white publicity images for gritty 1996 movie 'Trainspotting' - is famous for convincing famous people to pose in unusual situations.

His shot of Liam, 36, and Patsy - who married in 1997 but divorced in 2000, and have nine-year-old son Lennon together - saw Liam reclining on a bed while Patsy, 41, wrapped herself around him.

Lorenzo explained: 'The whole thing for me was beauty and the beast - Liam was the ruffian who would wear a hat and smoke a cigarette in bed so I told him to be tough and stare me down. Patsy was the babe so I told her to be all over her man.'
