Richard Bowes author of Some Might Say: The Story Of Oasis, which in my opinion is the best book about the band we've had to date is starting work on a new project.
Below is an email I received about it today.
I am putting together a book covering the defining British music movement of the 1990s through the experiences of the people who lived it. The book, a people’s history, will detail how Britpop emerged from recession-era Britain and became the soundtrack of a generation navigating class and a swiftly changing culture. It will be a social and cultural history of Britain in the 1990s, told through music and fandom, combining historical research with vivid first-person testimony and appealing to people who lived through it and those who were unlucky not to. Countless bands and fans were part of the era. If you were one of them, we want to hear your story.
Obviously, Oasis were the biggest band of the era and ever since. We are looking for contributions of approximately 400 words or more from fans of Oasis. It could be about a particular gig, or meeting one of the band members, or just what they mean to you. And it doesn’t have to be a story from the 1990s; Oasis have taken their place at the top tier of rock bands so if you saw them in the 2000s, during the solo years or at the reunion in 2025, we want to hear from you.
But it doesn’t just have to be Oasis. If you’ve got a story about seeing one of the other bands who fall under the Britpop umbrella, it would be great to hear about. The more stories the merrier!
