No Takers For Oasis Demo Tape Or Band's NME Award Thrown Away By Noel Gallagher

But blackboard from cover of classic B-sides album The Masterplan fetches £1,400

The first demo tape ever recorded by Oasis has failed to sell at auction.

The cassette recording went under the hammer in Cheshire this week alongside an NME award which Noel Gallagher famously threw away.

But punters did not match the £1,000 reserve price for the historic tape, or the £5,000 tag for the award.

There was far more interest in another piece of the band’s history, however. The original blackboard that features in the classroom cover of the classic B-sides album The Masterplan was sold for £1,400 - far more than the £800 reserve.

The auctioneers say that since the sale on Wednesday, there’s been fresh interest in the demo tape and award from new potential buyers.

The collection of Oasis memorabilia went under the hammer at Omega Auctions in Warrington on Wednesday.

The sale featured the band’s first ever demo cassette recorded in late 1991 and Jan 1992 with Noel’s handwriting on the labels.

It was given to Terry Christian by Noel in 1992 while he was having dinner in Don Giovanni’s in Manchester.

The cassette features early studio demos on one side and an early gig on the B-side from The Boardwalk.

Noel Gallagher famously threw away the NME award in 1995/96 in response to the magazine’s editor failing to acknowledge the death of Rob Collins, keyboard player with The Charlatans.

Karen Fairweather, auctioneer at Omega Auctions, said that neither item reached its reserve price, but the Masterplan blackboard sold for £1,400.

The biggest seller of the day was a piano played by White Stripes frontman Jack White, which was picked up for £5,000.

A collection of framed 1960s promo photographs featuring The Kinks and other icons sold for £700.

Noel Gallagher Set To Record James Bond Theme?

Ex-Oasis star Noel Gallagher could get a licence to trill the theme song for the new James Bond movie Skyfall.

The Wonderwall writer, 44, is to meet 007 bosses within the next few days to discuss writing the title track.

A source told The Sun: "They're going to talk about potentially writing and performing the song for next year's new Bond film.

"Nothing is signed or official, it's just being discussed at the moment."

Noel — who is set to meet Bond producer Michael G. Wilson in LA — could use a song he has already written, called Freaky Teeth. The track has been played a few times at gigs but never released.

But in 2008 Noel said of the tune: "I listened back to it thinking, 'That'd make a f****** great Bond theme'."

He admitted the title was "not very Bond-esque". But he reckoned it was time a British act recorded a Bond theme song again.

He said: "It's a bit of a p***-take that the greatest British agent of all time has to be soundtracked by a bunch of Americans."

Noel Gallagher: Lady Gaga Hasn't Given Weirdos Any Decent Music

The former Oasis guitarist and songwriter is famed for his rants about other acts, with Blur, Robbie Williams, Scissor Sisters, Keane and Jack White among those on the receiving end of his volleys of disdain.

His latest target is Lady Gaga, despite his 11-year-old daughter being a big fan of the Bad Romance singer.

Noel told Q magazine: 'It's all about the meat suit and the controversy. Is it about the music? Really? She's got the publicity side sorted out, but where's the f****** music?

'Paparazzi? It's Madonna lite. Madonna was hardcore. She took it to the edge musically as well as everything else.

'Twenty years from now, will we listen to Lady Gaga? No. She might think she is making a stand for the freaks and the weirdos but they're not going to have any decent f****** music to play are they?'
