Liam Gallagher's 'As You Were' Is The 10th Best Selling Album Worldwide By A British Artist In 2017

Liam Gallagher's debut album 'As You Were' was the tenth best selling album worldwide by a British artist in 2017.

The figures were released by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

Here are the top ten best selling British albums of 2017 from around the world.

01. Ed Sheeran – Divide
02. Rag N Bone Man – Human
03. Sam Smith – The Thrill Of It All
04. Harry Styles – Harry Styles
05. Depeche Mode – Spirit
06. Ed Sheeran – Multiply
07. The Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
08. Gorillaz – Humanz
09. Roger Waters – Is This The Life We Really Want?
10. Liam Gallagher – As You Were

It reports that one in every eight albums bought worldwide in 2017 was by a British act, while UK artists accounted for 12.9% of all music purchased or streamed around the world.

The figure is slightly up on last year's 12.5%, but down on 2015, when Adele's hugely successful 25 album lifted UK music exports to 17%.

Noel Gallagher Doesn't Give A F***k What Liam Does As Long As He Keeps Promoting His Record

Noel Gallagher has spoke about Liam's solo music and the "army of songwriters" he used for his debut album 'As You Were' comparing it to "Adele shouting into a bucket".

Asked if he's heard any of the songs from 'As You Were', Noel told I-D magazine: "I've heard 'Wall Of Glass' and the one that sounds like Adele shouting into a bucket. But I'm not a fan so I wouldn't listen to it."

He continued: "I'm not sure I can be arsed formulating an opinion on a record that's written by an army of songwriters. Isn't the one from One Direction doing that?

"The little Irish fella with the acoustic? At least he has the decency to play a guitar. I'm not a fan.

"I have nothing to say about it."

Asked if he supports Liam's career he said: "No. I think at the beginning, from this side of the fence, there was a lot of good will as in, yeah, man, I fucking hope it works. It's about time.

"But that's all gone now because it got personal.

"So it's like, fuck what he does. As long as he keeps promoting my record, there's a good boy."

Noel says there is no chance of them mending their rift or reuniting Oasis.

He concluded: "I don't give a fuck as long as he promotes it on his twitter feed.

"It's like, I'm over here doing my thing, you're over there doing my thing, and never the twain shall meet, thank you very much."

Liam Gallagher's 'As You Were' Is Selling More Then The Rest Of The Album Chart Combined

Liam Gallagher is set for a huge No.1 album after selling more than the rest of the chart’s top 75 combined.

The former Oasis star shifted over 55,000 copies of his debut solo record As You Were in just one day.

His nearest competitor is The Darkness, who are currently sitting in second place with 4,000 sales.

Liam’s numbers include a huge 40,000 from people who pre-ordered the critically acclaimed record.

It will be the rocker’s first studio album chart-topper since Oasis’ seventh and final record, Dig Out Your Soul, hit the top spot back in 2008.

His two offerings with post-Oasis break-up band, Beady Eye, reached No.2 and No.3.

My music insider said: “Liam’s first solo album has already been a huge hit with critics and now it’s proving a hit with fans too.”

Last month I exclusively revealed how Liam said he would retire if his solo album didn’t sell well.

But there’s no need for him to hang up his mac and mic just yet!

Much to the relief of his fans and to the annoyance of his older brother Noel.

Insiders also predict that Liam could go on to sell over 100,000 copies by Friday’s chart countdown.

Although the number is huge in today’s music industry, the total is still well down the all-time chart for first week sales.

Adele holds the record with 803,000 for 25, followed by Oasis Be Here Now 695,761 and Ed Sheeran’s ÷ with 672,000.

Now it’s over to Noel to see what he can do with his band High Flying Birds, who release their third album next month.

Noel Gallagher To Write The Theme Tune For James Bond 25

James Bond 25 is still two years away but speculation on who will record its theme song is already well under way.

Following speculation covering the likes of Adele, Beyonce and even little-known bands, now Noel Gallagher’s name has re-entered the conversation.

The former Oasis star has always been open about wanting to record a track for the spy movie franchise, and now it seems he’s inching closer to his goal.

It seems working with film score producer David Holmes on his latest album has refreshed his inspiration, according to The Sun.

“Noel has wanted to do this for a while, and once he started working with David he saw it as the perfect opportunity to use his experience to finish some ideas he had already,” a source claimed.

“He’s going to put his music forward for sure to be considered.”

It had previously been reported that Gallagher had teamed up with Paul Weller to pen a potential ditty for the movie.

“I want to write a James Bond theme tune,” Weller told the BBC earlier this year.

“I’ve got this half a song that me and Noel Gallagher worked on and I think it would be great for a Bond theme. There’s a bit of minor key going on.

“That would be an ambition definitely.”

The 25th Bond movie, currently untitled, will be Daniel Craig’s last.

It’s confirmed for release in November 2019 in the US, with a UK rollout expected slightly earlier.

Liam Gallagher On Adele, Ed Sheeran And Harry Styles

The ever-humble Liam Gallagher says his new solo album is going to right all the wrongs caused by pop giants Adele and Ed Sheeran.

The former Oasis frontman is finishing up work on As You Were, his first-ever solo album and his return to music following his split with Beady Eye back in October 2014.

Liam is his usual swaggering self, promoting the record in an ES Magazine, in which he modestly describes himself as the cure for all of rock music's current ills.

"As far as I'm concerned, whether this album's a success or not, some c**t has to counteract the bullshit. 'And I'm that f**king man," he insisted. "Whether it's Adele or Ed Sheeran — I'm not arsed about them — but half of these bands that call themselves guitar bands, they're in that mob too. They're just running amok.

"These c***s are just getting away with murder: you can't tell a guitar band from a pop band these days. No one's cranking it up and having a bit of aggro.

"They're all going to the same parties, they're all f**king hanging out, they're all drinking from the same cup, they're all eating at the same f**king restaurants, and, dare I say it, they all look the same, and dress the same. Someone needs to counteract that. And I'm here to do that."

A dislike of Ed Sheeran could well be a bonding moment for Liam and his brother, with Noel Gallagher having previously had a go at the 'Thinking Out Loud' singer too. Ah, brotherly bonding!

Liam isn't down on all popstars — it seems he actually has some affection for Harry Styles now that the 23-year-old is breaking away from the Simon Cowell-created One Direction.

"I wouldn't buy [his single 'Sign of the Times'], but it's interesting. Imagine what it's like for him," Liam said. "He's got a big f**king weight on his shoulders, and he's only f**king young.

"He's probably thinking this One Direction thing ain't for me. People change, so if he wants to do a bit of that, good luck to him."

Maybe our Liam is turning into a softy in his advanced years, after all! His full interview appears in this week's issue of ES Magazine, out on Thursday (May 25, 2017).

Liam Gallagher Compares Noel To Robbie Williams

Former Oasis frontman says he doesn't regret any comments he's made about his brother

Liam Gallagher has compared brother Noel to Robbie Williams in a new interview.

There has been bad blood between the two Oasis siblings for some time, with Liam recently comparing Noel to Hitler and calling him a ‘little toad’. Liam has also said that Noel is the one thing preventing an Oasis reunion from happening.

Speaking recently to Evening Standard‘s ES magazine, Gallagher was asked whether he regrets any of the comments about Noel. He replied: “No. Not at fucking all. I think he’s had it easy off me. It’s only sticks and stones, they won’t break his bones. Wait till I bump into the cunt. Everything I say is the fucking truth. I’ve not even dug that deep yet.”

Liam went on to add: “I don’t know what world he lives in, and I wouldn’t want to live in it, believe you me, because it seems very bland, naff and contrived and just… What? He’s like the new Robbie Williams or something. It’s fucking weird.”

Liam is expected to release his eagerly-anticipated debut solo album at some point this year. His album will be titled ‘As You Were’ and its first single will be called ‘Not For Sale’.

He told ES of his current plans: “The main thing is getting a record done, getting back touring and doing what I do: singing and moving people, rather than sitting at home doing nothing, spouting off on Twitter.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Liam revealed that he’s worked with Adele’s producer Greg Kurstin on his album.

Gallagher explained why: “Ideally, you want to do it yourself. But I can’t write those fucking big songs. I’m limited. My verses are up there, but I just can’t do that next bit.”

Noel Gallagher And Paul Weller Already Have The Theme Song Written For The Next Bond Movie

The film has not started next James Bond yet, but Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller already have the theme song.

I told you how the former Oasis guitarist would record a 007 track “in a heartbeat”.

Now The Modfather spilled: “I’ve got this half a song that me and Noel Gallagher worked on and I think it would be great for a Bond theme. There’s a bit of minor key going on.”

Noel was not impressed by Sam Smith’s recent Bond song, saying: “I could do it and it would be great.”

If Daniel Craig returns to the role as expected, he will have a say in who does the music.

The actor gave the green light to Adele and Sam’s efforts.

Noel once said he wouldn’t mind Craig playing him in a film too.

But Craig joked that he couldn’t because he is too good at guitar playing.

He said: “I can play guitar better than Noel so I don’t know how playing him is really going to work.”

Meanwhile Weller is also keen on trying his hand at the dreaded Eurovision.

Referring to a song off his new album A Kind Revolution out tomorrow, he told BBC: “I want to see the UK win the Eurovision Song Contest.

“And I think they need The Impossible Idea as their tune.

“If it was my song then I would definitely, yeah.”

Well, That’s Entertainment I suppose.

Is Noel Gallagher Making His Own Bid For An Oscar?

Noel Gallagher is getting closer to his Oscar dream after teaming up with a soundtrack great.

David Holmes, who has scored hit movies including Ocean’s Eleven, is producing the singer’s next solo album.

Now the hope is that Hollywood bigwigs will use his new material for a movie and get Noel that Academy Award nod.

An insider told me: “With David’s influence, getting the music on to a film soundtrack stands a very good chance.”

UK stars Adele, 27, and Sam Smith, 23, have nabbed an Oscar in recent years.

And the elder Gallagher, 48, admits he’s a bit jealous.

He said recently: “It would be nice if I could write a song for a fi lm which would win me an Oscar.”

Due out next year, the rock legend called his new solo music “f***ing brilliant”, dashing any lingering Oasis reunion hopes.

Producer David, who is up for an Ivor Novello Award, recently remixed some of Noel's work.

And Noel explained: “I’m working with a producer in a way I’ve never worked before which is writing in the studio and my producer’s suggesting jumping off points.

“The end results are pretty good at the moment.”

Noel Gallagher On Oasis, Adele, ACDC, Blur, Writing A Film Soundtrack And More

Below are snippets from two Spanish interviews with Noel Gallagher that have been translated by frjdoasis and Jessica.

The original translation can be found here for El Mundo here for ABCdesevilla.

El Mundo

What inspires you most, love or hate?

Hatred has never inspired me. And I don’t think this is something that I have really experienced. I want to say that apart from terrorism I don't hate a lot of things. Love provides a lot more inspiration than the negative side of life. It is obvious that there are people who write songs about pain and sadness, like fucking Radiohead and damned Adele, but love is something much more noble to talk about. Falling in and out of live, finding love, detaching. It's one of the things that makes us human, and in the course of your life you fall in love with almost everything, your parents, your pets, music, girls, politics ...

What do you think of United Kingdom leaving the European Union?

I support it.

Politicians ...

They're idiots. They let Hitler did the same thing in 1938 and in 1939, annex this country and then this territory and then the ... The only thing you have to do when you face things like that is the fucking war and who dies in war is our working class, our young people. I understand that the rulers don’t want to send people to war, but sitting there with their idle hands they will irrevocably lead us to that.

I was going to say that you do not have a good opinion even of those who rule.

The only concern of politicians is the perception that one has of them through the media. They don’t give a fuck about people. We live in a very strange world, liberal and politically correct, in which one can speak of massacred people in the streets ... until you insult the people who made it. And this madness means that one takes refuge in his own little family and give them to everyone else. It deprives you of your natural goodness, soul, the one that tells you to help others. However, as there are evil people and rulers who either remain paralyzed or tell you to turn the other cheek, people today - and I'm not among them - are losing their humanity.

ABCdesevilla

Do you usually compose on tour?

Well, now that you mention it... In my previous tours, I wrote many songs, and on this one, not one. What I do is listen to lots of music.

What was the last new band that has impressed you?

Jungle, definitely. They're from London, and they're kinda like Sly & the Family Stone of the 21st century, they're brilliant.

Who knows, maybe at some point you influenced them. Do you often think about your enormous influence in the music of the last quarter century?

I know my songs mean the world to many people around the planet, but no, I do not usually think about it. In fact, when I'm not thinking about music, I usually only think of football.

You have achieved almost everything in the music world. But, is there something else you'd like to do?

Yes, I want to compose a soundtrack one day. But, you know why? So I can go to the Oscars with my wife and tell a few directors that their films are shit, haha! And it would be great to win an Oscar.

Having the power to reunite Oasis when they please must be like having within reach the nuclear button, right?

Haha! The question is, what for? To make lots of money? I have lots of money. To do something enjoyable? What I'm doing with the High Flying Birds is very enjoyable. To make people happy? I'm already doing that with my new band. Anyway, I'm a man who moves by instinct. If tomorrow I wake up in my Madrid hotel thinking that reuniting Oasis would be great, I'd do it.

What do you think of Axl Rose going to be the singer in the AC/DC tour?

Oh god, that can't happen.

The rumor continues to grow... Pictures have appeared of them coming out of rehearsal together.

Really? (He puts his hands to his face and backs down on the couch) Oh no, they're crazy. I'll just say one thing: That would be as ridiculous as Adele singing with the Supremes.

Did you like the last Blur album?

Mmm... Yes, there's three good songs. Perhaps four.

Thanks to frjdoasis and Jessica.

Noel Gallagher, Bono, Coldplay, Damon Albarn And More To Form A Supergroup At The Brits

Paying a fitting homage to David Bowie is no easy task, but the Brit Awards are trying their hardest.

I can reveal bosses are putting together an A-list supergroup in a bid to lay on the ultimate tribute at next month’s bash.

The band, which will hopefully include former Britpop foes Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn, plus Bono, will perform alongside iconic British acts Coldplay and Adele.

Organisers are even considering asking ITV to extend the show by 30 minutes to give the spectacular the time it deserves.

Yesterday a music insider revealed: “A few artists approached the Brits to ask if they could be involved in the David Bowie tribute as they want to make sure it is done properly.

“He was a British icon and they want to provide a credible farewell which can honour that.

“The band will be full of musicians who grew up with Bowie and were inspired by him, meaning artists like Noel, Damon and Bono.

“It is unlikely to involve young acts such as Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran, but there will be a few artists who are already singing on the night who will be asked if they want to take part too.

“The organisers are putting everything into it. If they get it right, it will be epic.”

One Direction's Liam Payne Thinks Noel Gallagher Is Sad

Noel Gallagher's recent trashing of the boyband has really got on Liam Payne's goat, so much so that he has declared that the Wonderwall hitmaker is "sad".

The Oasis legend took a pop at One Direction and fellow stars Adele and Ellie Goulding during a rant about the current state of the music industry. He even went as far to describe Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson as "c***s***ers"

Speaking about the comments on BBC Radio 1's Superstar Playlist Payne accused Gallagher of being two-faced after a recent friendly meeting.

"The funny thing was, I met him the day the story came out," he said. "I didn't know it was coming out, and he came up and said, 'All right, mate? How are you doing?'

"I was like, 'Fine thanks, mate. Nice to meet you'. The next day I read the story and thought, 'How sad is that?' He completely dissed us. Nice to diss your fans, isn't it?"

He added: "It's sad because they genuinely led me to a path of singing. That's something they should be genuinely proud of."

"They don't think before they speak. You never know who was a fan of your music. Especially when you were as big as they were. Do it with grace. Good old Noel, bless him.

"I had to have a moan about that at some point. I'm over it."

Noel Gallagher Dazzles Lincoln Crowd At Intimate Gig

Noel Gallagher turned in a stellar performance at an intimate gig in Lincoln to delight fans and leave a 200-strong crowd on their feet.

The veteran Oasis star rolled back the years in an impressive display at Bishop Grosseteste University featuring some of his most famous songs.

The hour-long set treated excited competition-winners to classics such as Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger for more than an hour.

The event, which was sponsored by Lincoln College and put together by Lincs FM, saw the 48-year-old poke fun at the crowd every chance he got.

Sean Dunderdale, director of programming at Lincs FM, says he was delighted to bring the superstar to Lincoln.

Speaking after the gig he said: "It was amazing – we have been doing these up close gigs for a few years now and this was the best one of the lot.

"The fact that he did over an hour was fantastic.

"It was great to bring him to Lincoln – we started talking to his management in February.

"We bought Adele to Louth just before she became really famous but Noel is a big star right now.

"I feel ecstatic, it went so well."

Matthew Portess from Barton was blown away.

The 35-year-old said: "It was absolutely awesome – it was a once in a lifetime experience to see Noel play to such a small crowd and be so close up to him.

"I have never seen him before but I was left very impressed.

"Don't Look Back in Anger was my favourite – it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck."

Neil Newell from Lincoln was left similarly impressed.

The 44-year-old said: "It was very good – I have seen Oasis a couple of times in places like Wembley but I preferred this.

"I was always more of a Liam fan but after tonight I have been convinced."

Paul Gascoigne from Lincoln says he wasn't a big fan before the gig but will be leaving with one of his albums.

The 44-year-old said: "Obviously I have got some Oasis albums but I had not heard any of his newer stuff – but I thought he was superb.

"I came here and did not know what to expect but it was great."

Shane Kelley and Dean Reed, who have been performing in an Oasis tribute act for the last three years, both paid tribute to the singer.

Shane, 40, from Lincoln said: "His music is quality – it is what he says on the tin – great British music."

While Dean, 32, also from Lincoln said: "I think after all these years he is still on top form – his last two albums have been really adventurous and he still has it."

Sorry Adele, Oasis Are Still The Album Chart Record Breakers

In a not-so-shocking turn of events Adele's 25 has smashed chart records, with 800,307 sales in a week.

It's the fastest selling album in chart history, overtaking Oasis's record-breaking album Be Here Now which sold 696,000 copies in its first chart week.

However, the Gallagher brothers' 1997 triumph was after only three days on sale. It was released on a Thursday and charted on a Sunday.

Compared with 25's first three days of sales, Oasis easily outshine Adele.

Be Here Now sold 158,000 more copies than 25, which shifted 538,000 in 72 hours.

So the comparison you've been hearing about is not like-for-like over a seven-day period.

Over a full week, Liam and Noel still sold more.

Be Here Now shifted 813,000 in that time compared to Adele's 800,307.

So whichever way you look at it, Oasis still beat Adele.

And in those days, before downloading existed, you had to go and buy a physical CD at the shops.

The Official Chart doesn't use a like-for-like seven-day comparison.

In the past music released on any day before the day of the Official Chart was eligible to chart that week.

Earlier this year, The Official Chart moved from Sundays to Fridays to reflect the global change.

Now all music is released on Fridays worldwide, and then has the chance of charting the following Friday.

The success of Adele and 25 should still be applauded of course, especially as the album is unavailable to stream on Spotify.

And she did break the US album record for sales.

But what happened in August 1997 with Liam and Noel is still the record breaker and is unlikely to ever be beaten.

No other act has sold as many copies of an album in the same period.

Wolf Alice's Theo Ellis Respondeds To Noel Gallagher's Diatribe Against Modern Music

Wolf Alice's Theo Ellis has responded to Noel Gallagher's recent diatribe against the state of modern music, saying, "It's just boring. It's just he who shouts the loudest... is usually the mod stupid fucking idiot."

The former Oasis frontman was even more bitter than usual in a recent interview with Esquire, during which he called One Direction "cocksuckers" and asked, "Who gives a shit what Ellie Goudling is up to? Really? Adele, what? Blows my fucking mind."

He also said, "Alex Turner [of Arctic Monkeys], Miles Kane, the guys from Royal Blood. They’ve got the fucking skinny jeans and the boots, and all that eyeliner. I’ve got a cat that’s more rock’n’roll than all of them put together. Pigeons? Rips their fucking heads off."

Speaking to Gigwise of Gallagher's outlook, Wolf Alice's Theo Ellis said, "Well he’s old as fuck so he should probably chill out. [Just] because you’ve been a successful musician, you’re not some kind of strange elder that hangs out on a cliff somewhere in mod world watching out. There’s no point in shouting loudly about other people and then not doing that much creative stuff."

He continued, "I mean, I love Oasis, I think Noel Gallagher’s an incredible songwriter, but I think that whole father-time old miser, rock 'n roll character thing doesn’t breed creativity, it’s just being mean to people. And that’s a bit dull. But, you know, he’s also really funny."

He added, "Maybe he should try writing some fucking tunes, because his solo stuff’s… whatever. I mean I can’t believe I’m saying this about Noel Gallagher. If you do print this, then I’m probably gonna get slagged off by Noel Gallagher. It is just really dull. "

As for Gallagher's declaration that "what I want, genuinely, is somebody with a fucking drug habit," Ellis said, "No one should ever wish that anyone has a drug habit, because if you’ve been affected by people who have had drug habits, it’s a deeply sad thing, that doesn’t warrant rock-stardom. He definitely has - he has himself. It’s just boring, it’s just he who shouts the loudest… is usually the mod stupid fucking idiot."

Ellie Goulding Says Noel Gallagher Loves Her Music

Singer Ellie Goulding suspects Noel Gallagher's recent insult against her is some type of publicity stunt.

The 48-year-old Oasis rocker slammed a slew of modern day musicians recently, telling Esquire UK: "Does anybody give a f**k about what any of these current pop stars are up to? Who gives a s**t what f**king One Direction do? C**ksuckers, all of them in rehab by the time they're 30. Who gives a s**t what Ellie Goulding is up to? Really? Adele, what? Blows my f**king mind. Nobody cares! Fame's wasted on them."

But Ellie had a personal interaction with Noel that seems to discount pretty much everything he said about her.

"Noel came up to me at the Brit Awards two years ago and said, 'I love your music - but don't f**king tell anyone'," she recalled to The Sun.
