Record Store Day Unveils 2014 Releases: Oasis, Paul Weller, Nirvana, Jake Bugg, And More

Nirvana, Paul Weller and Oasis are among the artists who have contributed releases to Record Store Day 2014.

Paul Weller will release new material on a seven-inch, with the single limited to just 2,500 copies. Meanwhile, Nirvana's 'Pennyroyal Tea' will be released on the same format and Oasis' debut single 'Supersonic' will be re-released on 12-inch. David Bowie has outlined plans to release a seven-inch picture disc of 'Rock'N'Roll Suicide' in the UK. First released as a single in 1974, the new version is backed with 'Farewell Speech', recorded at the final Ziggy Stardust concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon in July, 1973.

Sex Pistols will release a limited-edition numbered seven-inch vinyl boxset which features alternate takes of 'Never Mind The Bollocks' tracks, plus two 1977 studio mixes of 'Belsen Was A Gas', including a previously unreleased demo version of the song.

'Live At Silver Platters, Seattle' is a four-track EP recorded by Jake Bugg at the singer-songwriter's January 20, 2014 instore show in the US city. It sees Bugg performing acoustic versions of tracks from his debut album and 2013 follow-up 'Shangri La', including breakthrough hit 'Lightning Bolt'.

Meanwhile, LCD Soundsystem's farewell concert, 'The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live At Madison Square Garden', will come out as a five-LP set for Record Store Day, with a wider vinyl and digital release set for May 19. The recording will be an unabridged version of the band's final gig, coming in at almost four hours long.

Suede will put out their single 'Let Go' on vinyl for the first time. The track was originally released as a limited-run CD single in Sweden in 1999. The seven-inch will feature 'Heroin' as a B-side.

Green Day have announced plans to release 18 demos, including a previously unreleased track from recording sessions from the 2012 '¡Uno!', '¡Dos!' and '¡Tré!' trilogy. The release will be available on coloured vinyl, CD and cassette.

Savages, Drenge and Summer Camp are among the bands set to appear on a charity album released in conjunction with Record Store Day UK and War Child. War Child will be the official charity for this year's event and, together with XFM, a limited-edition record has been produced featuring the best of DJ John Kennedy’s X-Posure Sessions.

Other big name artists contributing to this year's event include Damon Albarn, The Beach Boys, Chvrches, Edwyn Collins, Disclosure, Fleetwood Mac, Haim, Joy Division, Kings Of Leon, Metronomy, OutKast, Slipknot and The Rolling Stones, while Temples and Jagwar Ma have teamed up for a split seven-inch.

A number of mystery artists have contributed to the Secret 7" project in which seven tracks are pressed onto vinyl 100 times before artists are invited to design one-of-a-kind sleeves for the records. The names of the seven artists and musicians will be revealed this Monday (March 24).

Chuck D has been named as the official ambassador of Record Store Day 2014. Speaking about his appointment, he commented: "In this age where industry has threaded the music sound with virtual sight and story I am honoured to be called upon to be Record Store Day Ambassador of 2014. With the masses, neck bent into their smartphones, let all of us music lovers GPS our way into a reality that is the record store. It's worth a great try, let's do this."

Record Store Day was launched in the US seven years ago, coming to the UK a year later.

Noel Gallagher Criticises BBC Radio 1 For Ignoring Temples And Jagwar Ma

"There's great records coming out this year you're not going to hear on the radio," says former Oasis man.

Noel Gallagher has criticised BBC Radio 1 for not playlisting bands such as Temples and Jagwa Ma.

The comments follow on from Radio 1 music bosses describing Gallagher's music as "more at home on Radio 2" during a recent interview. Both head of music at Radio 1, George Ergatoudis, and Nigel Harding, the station's music policy director, admitted that the former Oasis member was no longer a part of their plans while making similar comments about Green Day and Robbie Williams.

Speaking to GQ, Gallagher added to his recent criticism of pop music and described Radio 1 as his idea of hell.

He said: "I don't understand it. It's when radio stations start focus groups. They literally go outside their building and ask people walking by, 'If I played you this song, what would you think?' and all that. Don't ask the man on the street! He's a cunt! That's why he's the man on the street, not the man in the expensive restaurant eating fucking mini sausages at four in the afternoon!"

Moving on to the albums and bands he feels are being unfairly overlooked, Gallagher continued: "There's great records coming out this year you're not going to hear on the radio. Temples (pictured right). Jagwar Ma. Great stuff, but it's on a lower level. It's not on the battleground. You have to be in that world to hear it."

Robbie Williams recently said he is "gutted" that he is deemed too old for the Radio 1 playlist. Quizzed about the snub by BBC Radio 4, Williams conceded that it hurts him when the station don't promote his material.

Noel Gallagher Watches Temples In London

Noel Gallagher attended Temples' gig at London venue The Lexington last night (April 29), where he told NME that he'd been looking forward to seeing the trippy-sounding Kettering band for some time, but wishes it had been in a different venue than the small, cramped upstairs room of a pub.

"It's not really music that should be played in a pub," said Gallagher, who attended the show with Beady Eye member Gem Archer and former Oasis tour DJ Phil Smith. "It's cosmic space music – it should be played in an empty Death Star. Even an empty arena during soundcheck would be better. Imagine what they'd sound like with all the echo."

Gallagher was, however, gushing with praise for the young band, and spoke to them after the show. "I thought it was fucking great and I love them," he told NME. "When I was listening to it I was thinking about what the record's going to be, and the future of the galaxy depends on that record and the Jagwar Ma record. If those two records are right, then the imperial – what are they called, the imperial forces… those c*nts – will be defeated."

Asked if Temples and Jagwar Ma represent a newly psychedelic bent on his listening habits, Gallagher said: "I'm always listening to psychedelic music anyway, but it's a broad thing, it can go from Jimi Hendrix to The Bee Gees. It's not like reggae, do you know what I mean?"

Asked what he's currently working on, Gallagher, who is between tours and album projects, said: "I'm working on a building of love. I'm going to build it for everyone." Asked to elaborate on exactly what that meant, he said: "Don't be an idiot – just leave it like that."

Jagwar Ma Say Noel Gallagher Was Their Hero Growing Up

Aussie duo Jagwar Ma have responded to Noel Gallagher's claim that he's too busy talking about them and London psych rockers Temples to reform Oasis.

Speaking to NME previously after his Teenage Cancer Trust show last month, in which he united with Damon Albarn for a duet of Blur's 'Tender', Gallagher said whenever he meets his former Oasis bandmates, a reformation is never mentioned because "we're too busy talking about fucking Temples and Jagwar Ma".

Responding to Gallagher's big-up in this week's NME, which is on newsstands now or available digitally, Jagwar Ma's Gabriel Winterfield said: "That's ridiculous. Noel was my hero growing up.

"I'm starting to get a little bit freaked out by people knowing who I am."

Yesterday, Jagwar Ma announced details of their debut album, 'Howlin''. The duo – made up of Winterfield and Jono Ma– will release the LP on June 10, following their appearance at next month's The Great Escape festival in Brighton. Scroll down to listen to their new single 'Man I Need'.
