Paul Weller: Don't Hold Your Breath For Another Oasis

Taken from 'Q Legends: Paul Weller ' that is on sale now, more details can be found here.

"I've always had that romantic notion of being in a band. I still do in some ways. But Noel [Gallagher] said this, and he's right, but the days of kids from a council estate getting a band together and wanting to change the world are gone, really.

You're more likely to find that in the Grime scene than in pop or whatever. But four young geezers of an estate, you don't really see that at all. And I don't think it ever will come round again. Not like The Jam, or Oasis. I think it's just changed.

I was talking to this fella the other day, about the same thing with Jazz, how one time that was the most popular music but now it's a very niece thing. It's still there, but you can never call it popular music. Maybe it's the same with rock 'n' roll?  It's had it's time.

Blossoms On Liam And Noel Gallagher

Taken from an interview with the BBC read the full article here.

Who have you met that's been actually cool?

Tom: Alex Turner. Liam Gallagher.

Joe: Noel Gallagher. Paul Weller.

Tom: Those are a solid four. And what they all have in common is they walk really slow. They have a powerful walk. They walk slower than your average.

Have they been supportive of the Blossoms?

Tom: Yeah, definitely. Everyone is just sound. We don't stay in touch and become best mates or 'owt like that. They'll give you a bit of advice, then you have a beer and go and do your own thing. You realise they're just normal people.

Who's left you starstruck?

Joe: My first ever gig with Tom was Oasis, so Noel and Liam are on a pedestal up here. So even when you meet 'em and they're like normal people, in your head they'll always be "Noel and Liam Gallagher". Even now, we're going on tour with Noel and even if we just walk past him in the corridor, I get butterflies. I don't think that'll ever go away.

And Alex Turner - there's no way Alex Turner is a normal human. He's like an alien. Everything he does is perfect. That's why I can never put them people down as normal people. They can't be, can they? They're freaks of nature and amazing.

Paul Weller On Noel Gallagher's Solo Work And More

As part of the current edition of NME Gold, Paul Weller has spoken out about his admiration for friend and collaborator Noel Gallagher.

“I’ve liked everything he’s done solo. I don’t really need to talk about what a great songwriter he is, because everyone knows that. But, for me, he’s got better. I don't really need to talk about what a great songwriter he is, because everyone knows that. But, for me, he's got better. I think his songs now have got a different sort of depth to them; lyrically as well. Especially the new one. I really like the words on it. He’s got his own thing together. He's a magpie in his writing which he fully admits to, and he'll take a little bit of everything, but at the end of the day you can really hear 'That's Noel Gallagher'. You can hear it in his words, his melody, the way he puts his chords together.

There’s some fucking great songs on the first two albums, some big tunes, and he is the master as well of that kind of anthem. And writing anthems is not an easy thing to do. And he really knows his shit on that. There’s a song on the second solo album called ‘The Girl With The X Ray Eyes’, which I think is an amazing song. Without getting muso about it, because he wouldn’t, it’s just got beautiful chords and melody and the way it’s structured. And hopefully people hear that.

He's a great musician as well. he came down last week to play some keyboards on a couple of tracks. Which was great. I don't know if people realise he's a kind of all-rounder really. He's great on drums. Really good bass player as well. Even though he's a mate I've known him a long time. I'm still a fan of Noel as well, really. I still love his music and I look forward to hearing every record."

Liam Gallagher On Ray Davies, Noel, Kasabian, Paul Weller And More

The interviewer from Q told Liam Gallagher that Ray Davies from 'The Kinks' walked out of them at the 'Cafe Rouge' in London were this part of the interview is taking place

Liam "I see Ray Davies around sometimes, sometimes he says hello, sometimes he blanks me, I don't mind being blanked by Ray Davies."

Liam Gallagher puts the warmth his comeback received down to two main things: being out of the limelight for four years and returning with a strong collection of songs.

On working with songwriters and quotes he's interpreted as digs from Paul Weller and Serge Pizzorno as digs.

Liam: "I've been singing other people's lyrics my whole life and I own them. Once I get hold of them, I make them something else, like Elvis."

Liam thinks Noel, Weller and Kasabian are unnerved by him invading their space and taking money off their plate.

He said "There's been a smoke bomb gone off, and everyone's been blinded by what's gone down and the smoke's cleared and yours fucking truly is in the middle going, 'Come on, you cunts.'

At the day after the Q Interview when asked if Liam Gallagher's tweet about a truce with Noel was true.

His Girlfriend Debbie Gwyther is quoted by Q via email saying "It was Liam having too many Guinnesses, I'm holding you* responsible for the mayhem it caused".

*You as in the reporter for Q as they had been drinking for seven hours after Liam Gallagher had suggested a quick one.

Liam Gallagher On Paul Weller

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about Paul Weller, he said that he was into a lot of his stuff and that in the 90s he was madder than me and Noel put together.

He said "My other brother Paul was more into The Jam, when we were all living at home. He was massive on them. I really like The Jam as well, but I remember when he came out with his solo stuff, that was what I really got into, when he was doing 'Into Tomorrow' and things like that. After that I was into a lot of his stuff. I remember I went to see him at the Apollo with Steve Cradock around 'Wild Wood' and it was amazing. Amazing voice, amazing songs. He Looked like an honorary Manc at the time. I thought he looked really cool. I like him then, I still like him now. All his new stuff is great: that thing he did for that boxing film recently (Jawbone), mega. we hung around him a lot, obviously, when Oasis kicked off".

He added "He was Noel's mate, but I got on with him, without a doubt, top geezer. he used to tell me to keep writing songs, keep going with it, and he always into my voice. I think. He digs it. And he was mad as fuck. In the 90s he was madder than me and Noel put together, I'm telling you: he was wild."

Uncut's Review Of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 'Who Built The Moon?'

Not for the first time, Liam Gallagher recently stunned a fairly large number of people with something he said.

At a show in front of a record industry-crowd, he attempted to justify his new album being written with collaborators. "It ain't all about the music," he said in an audible intake of breath. "It's also about being a cool cunt like me"."

Oasis or no Oasis, if you needed a precise articulation of the difference between Liam and Noel Gallagher, that would probably do it. One is still justifying himself, while the other has comfortably made it. One knows there's more to the magic of rock 'n' roll than just the music; there's attitude and charisma. And, actually, the other knows that too, but prefers to push his own party line. Namely that its all about the songs.

Interestingly, for so irreconcilable a pair, right now, Liam and Noel actually have quite a lot in common. Not that for a second Big Brother would see it this way, but he - in his way - is also using guest writers, looking for a way forward. Rather than present another album of great rockers and midtempo ballads, here he has enlisted the help of producer/remixer/movie soundtracker David Holmes to reimagine his meat and potatoes as a rather more exciting plate of food.

Early remarks about the record were of it's purported "psychedelic" sound. This might perhaps make long long-service Noelers cast their minds back to the tracks he cut about three years ago with the psychotropic Amorphous Androgynous crew, or further, to 1996's "Setting Sun", which cast him as the monk on the mountain top in the Chemical Brothers' own "Tomorrow Never Knows".

The Amorphous collaboration ended badly, with Noel apparently junking their proposed LP and Garry Cobain from AA describing Noel as "too afraid to be weird".

Nonetheless, two tracks "The Mexican" and "The Right Stuff", offered a pleasant space/time slippage and made it onto the last Noel album 2015's "Chasing Yesterday".

Apart from the possibly "It's A Beautiful World", which has an agreeably droney vibe before mutating into a Coldplay-style anthem, this album will not fry your brain, though that's not to say that a substantial change has not been attempted.

Encouraged by Holmes to collaborate, Noel has pushed as far out of his comfort zone as a person can while still having Paul Weller and Johnny Marr guest. Rather than presenting completed songs to his producer, the pair -working together on and off since 2013, apparently - have jammed, and listened, then revisited the material to turn into something more like a song.

It has yielded some interesting moments. Lead-off single "Holy Mountain" imagines 'The Sweet' covering "Diamond Dogs", or a Phil Spector production of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs". It is, as Noel has said, a lot of fun. "If Love Is The Law" continues the mood, this time channelling the spirit of A Christmas Gift To You From Philles Records, with some appealing sleigh bells and a flavour of "That's Entertainment" by The Jam.

"The Man Who Built The Moon?" near the end of the album, takes the tune and and rhythm of "Wonderwall", and puts it in the epic setting of a Bond Theme. Additional nods to a more widescreen production come with "interlude: Wednesday PT1" and the closing "End Credits".

Best by some distance though is "Black And White Sunshine". It's not unfamiliar territory by any means (Except for mention of "thanks and praise", which gives it a flavour of Sunday School we probably never expected from him), and it is very good indeed. And entirely unfamiliar guitar rift opens proceedings with a Johnny Marr level of freshness and virtuosity. the chorus, with reference to ships coming in, is jubilant in the pure Knebworth fashion. The descent back to the verse is done with some tastefully basic guitar playing.

If this excellent rocker were surrounded by a family bearing some strong genetic resemblances to it, "Who Built The Moon?" would be a superior album. That's not quite the case, sadly. "Keep On Reaching" find Holmes pushing some Curtis Mayfield presets. "She Taught Me How To Fly" is a fusion of Pulp's "Common People" with Blondie's "Heart Of Glass". And even if Noel doesn't like to talk about The Beatles any more, there's no hiding that "Be Careful What You Wish For" sounds rather like the riff from "Come Together".

Which is a strange thing about the album. As the album's bonus track (a live-in-the-studio version of "Dead In The Water") makes plain, Noel has broadened his horizons beyond the plaintive acoustic ballad. But to still be making records that sound a bit like other records after all this experimentation suggests he's gone an awfully long way round the houses simply to end up exactly where he started.

Mojo's Review Of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 'Who Built The Moon?'

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds

Gallagher goes ape with the help of DJ/Producer David Holmes.

No wonder Noel looked so cosy singing 'We Got The Power' alongside new-ish bosom buddy Damon Albarn on the Graham Norton Show last May; there are no cartoon surrogates here, but WBTM's multi-guest genre-hopping mash-up is very Gorillaz.

It's lovely to hear the former Mr Magnolia go Technicolor on these (mostly) psych-pop songs, and co-conspirator David Holmes determination to up the beats-per-minute and positivity has definitely helped Gallagher shake off the cobwebs.

Though some things will never change (Messrs Weller and Marr - or Uri Geller and Har Mar Superstar, as Liam calls them - both appear, and 'Be Careful What You Wish For' clearly wants to be 'Come Together'), the Serge Gainsbourg-like instrumental interlude ('Wednesday Part 1') and electro-pop winners 'It's A Beautiful World' and 'She Taught Me How To Fly' are invigorating departures.

Liam Gallagher Doesn't "Give A Fuck What Paul Weller Thinks"

The Wall Of Glass singer has hit back at the Modfather, after he compared his As You Were album to Beady Eye, and called the lyrics "pony".

Liam Gallagher has slammed Paul Weller after he said he wasn't "massively surprised" by his As You Were album.

Taking to Twitter, the Wall Of Glass singer wrote: "I don't give a fuck what Paul weller thinks I've never been 1 of his little bitches and he fucking knows it as you were LFUKING x".

It came after the Modfather was asked about new albums he'd been enjoying recently and he'd revealed: “I was lucky enough to get a copy of Noel Gallagher‘s [album] and I’ve really loved that. It’s a great record, I’ve been playing that loads.”

However, when quizzed if he'd heard Liam's No.1 solo debut, The Changingman responded: "I’ve heard a few songs, y’know. A couple of songs maybe.”

He added: “I’m glad for [Liam], I’m glad he’s got his own thing together and he’s out there doing it. I’m really pleased on that level.

“Musically, it just sounds like Beady Eye – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it wasn’t a massive surprise or anything. But I think I’m more pleased that he’s out there doing that. The lyrics are pretty pony I thought, a little bit sub-standard.”

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds To Release 'Holy Mountain' Next Week?

It's being reported on several various different music websites and forums that Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will release 'Holy Mountain' next week.

The track is taken from 'Who Built The Moon?' that is released on Friday 24th November.

It's already been confirmed that Paul Weller plays the organ on the track.

Describing the process of working with Holmes on album track Holy Mountain, Gallagher previously said: "David played me the sample, so I worked out the chords and we demoed just a few, short minutes of it, taking it away on tour and playing with it. When it became a song back in Belfast it was so joyous, I just had to do it justice. What’s more joyous than being in love, baby? So, I wrote a song about love and it’s one of the best things that I’ve ever done".

Noel Gallagher To Write The Theme Tune For James Bond 25

James Bond 25 is still two years away but speculation on who will record its theme song is already well under way.

Following speculation covering the likes of Adele, Beyonce and even little-known bands, now Noel Gallagher’s name has re-entered the conversation.

The former Oasis star has always been open about wanting to record a track for the spy movie franchise, and now it seems he’s inching closer to his goal.

It seems working with film score producer David Holmes on his latest album has refreshed his inspiration, according to The Sun.

“Noel has wanted to do this for a while, and once he started working with David he saw it as the perfect opportunity to use his experience to finish some ideas he had already,” a source claimed.

“He’s going to put his music forward for sure to be considered.”

It had previously been reported that Gallagher had teamed up with Paul Weller to pen a potential ditty for the movie.

“I want to write a James Bond theme tune,” Weller told the BBC earlier this year.

“I’ve got this half a song that me and Noel Gallagher worked on and I think it would be great for a Bond theme. There’s a bit of minor key going on.

“That would be an ambition definitely.”

The 25th Bond movie, currently untitled, will be Daniel Craig’s last.

It’s confirmed for release in November 2019 in the US, with a UK rollout expected slightly earlier.
