Liam Gallagher On School, Family, Oasis, The Rain, Manchester And More

Below are a number of quotes from Liam Gallagher from a article/interview from 'The Telegraph' you can read here (Sign Up Required).

I left with no qualifications, and the school got me a job in a garden centre, creosoting fences, a YTS thing. I was getting £50 a week. I'd finish at 3pm, midday on a Friday, so I'd walk past the school, waving my 50 quid at my mates.

I discovered I could sing by singing along to the Top 40 on the radio Then when I saw Roses live, I thought: "I could do that. I've got the look, I've got all the clothes, the haircut's intact, all I've got to do is stand in the front of the microphone and open my mouth - easy."

Three mates that I knew through playing football had a band called The Rain. I was thinking: "If I can get in there with them, and do my singing, I know for a fact that I can get our kid in."

My 16-year-old self imagined being in a band exactly as it is for me now. Music has never ever failed me once. It's everything I imagined it to be. Even when it was particularly bad with me and Noel at the end of Oasis, it was still better than digging holes.

I was the baby of the family - Noel's five years older than me, Paul's seven - but my mam treated us all the same. Burnage was a great place to grow up. It's not as moody as people make out.

Liam Gallagher On 'As You Were' Having Some Real Moments Of Repentance

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the AAP that his debut album 'As You Were' had some moments of real repentance.

"The songs that I wrote on there I had to dig deep on them".

"It was an apologetic kind of record but once that's done now I wouldn't want to be going back there next time because you can only say sorry so many times and if people don't get it fuck 'em. Hopefully the next one will be a bit more, like, unapologetic."

"I was saying sorry for maybe lots of things. Fucking up. You know, my kids, I've caused them a lot of pain over the years, me Mam and stuff. Just things like that really," he said.

"There was a bit for four years when I didn't see them (his children) for a bit, which was rightly so ... they were probably hearing lots of stuff. But that's been sorted now so now they're back and they know that I'm not a bad person so it's all good."

Peggy Gallagher Says Liam And Noel Are Getting On Fine

Liam and Noel Gallagher are getting on fine and their bust-up was exaggerated by the media, their Irish mum Peggy told the Irish Mirror on Wednesday.

Her sons superband Oasis split in 2009 and the pair have delivered barbed comments about each other in recent years with Noel reportedly saying he couldn’t work with Liam ‘a day longer’.

But on Tuesday Liam took to Twitter to wish Noel a Happy Christmas and tweeted: “I wanna say Happy Xmas to team NG it’s been a great year thanks for everything looking forward to seeing you tmorrow as you were LG x.”

He also said the pair were “all good again” and told a fan online that Noel has “already reached out”.

And their Irish mum Peggy, a Charlestown, Co Mayo native, revealed the relationship between Liam and Noel is much better than people think.

Peggy, 74, said: “Ah they’re fine, the papers make it a lot worse than what it is. They’re alright, they’re fine.”

And asked about whether she believes the split has been positive for her sons, Peggy said: “I think so because I really think they needed that break away from each other.

"And Liam is doing really well thank God, everything is going just lovely for him now. Both of them are doing their own thing and I think that’s a good thing.

“They’re happy working separately because when you’re in somebody’s pocket for 20 odd years brothers don’t always get on do they. Every family is like that aren’t they.”

The brothers are both touring Ireland separately next year as solo singer-songwriters after both of their new albums in 2017 were well received.

Peggy said: “Liam and Noel are coming over to Ireland next year, they’re going to have a busy year. The fans love them over there. And all the ones that went to see them years ago they’re all bringing their own families to see them now.

“Liam says to me, ‘There’s all younger kids here now, I don’t know where they’re coming out of? And I said well their parents are bringing them to hear you. It’s good because there’s kids around here in Manchester about 13 or 14 and they know all about them and they love that music.”

Asked if Liam was pleased to be back touring after a hiatus for four years prior to the release of his debut solo ‘As You Were’ in October, Peggy replied: “He needed that break for a bit and he’s a lot more settled now and a lot happier.”

Peggy said she will be spending Christmas Day in Manchester with her four sisters and her brother she plans to travel home to Charlestown, Co Mayo on January 7.

Asked if she would be spending Christmas Day with Liam and Noel, Peggy said: “They’re all going away. Liam is after finishing his tour and so is Noel and they’re going to go for break and they just want a quiet time for Christmas. They’ve just got a week or something off.”

Speaking about Liam and Noel’s talent she added: “I think my lads got it from my mother Margaret because her side of the family the O’Briens were always into Irish music; the fiddle and the flutes and the accordions and she loved music.”

Liam Gallagher Reveals His Mum Has Given Up On Trying To End His Feud With Noel

Warring brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher’s relationship is so broken that even their mum has given up trying to reunite them.

Fed-up Peggy, 73, says she is past caring 20 years after war first broke out – and a decade since her sons stopped talking to each other.

The Oasis stars’ beloved mum now cannot even get them in the same room at Christmas or for family birthday parties.

Liam, 44, revealed: “She is done with it. She is like, ‘F*** yous. Smash each other’s heads in for all I care. I am sick of it.’

"It has been 20 years now. She is done with it and she has given up.”

Peggy – who raised her boys alone – has also refused to move closer to them in London, saying she prefers the peace and quiet of her home in Burnage, Manchester.

Liam said: “She had three jobs. She’s still grafting today. She’s a tough woman, and she still lives in the same house.

“I’m like , ‘Come on. You’ve got to move from here.’ But she’s like, ‘I am not moving from nowhere.’

“She is not interested in any of this now. She is like, ‘You get on with your mad, crazy whatever life.’ Her feet are cemented to the ground.”

Peggy’s revelation means an Oasis reunion is less likely than ever.

Last year she gave clues about Liam’s split with Noel, 50, in Supersonic – a film about their lives.

She confessed: “I think there was that bit of jealously. Noel was beautiful as a baby and then Liam comes along – it takes the limelight off you.

“I was glad they were in a band together. I wouldn’t have wanted Liam in a band without Noel. But it all happened too quick.”

Liam Gallagher Would Not Behave If Oasis Reformed

Liam Gallagher discussed the possibility of an Oasis reunion during a Channel 4 interview with John Snow yesterday

When questioned if he’s tried to push the idea of an Oasis reunion to his brother Noel he said.

“We have done that. I don’t think he wants it man, he’s up there in his solo world. He’s in charge of everything, if I get in the way, he can’t tell me what to do. I’m not a yes man, so I think he’s quite happy doing his thing. I’m not definitely not a yes man. So all these people going, ‘I wish you’d get back together,’ I’m ready to go man. So it’s all about him, I’m not putting the blame on him, but he’s the one that doesn’t want it.”

He said the feud between himself and his brother is hard on their mother Peggy.

“Yeah, for sure it is. I have kids, and when they argue and aren’t getting on, you feel the pain.”

When questioned if he is ready to bury the hatchet with Noel and reunite Oasis he said.“I can, because I don’t hold grudges.”

When asked if he could behave during an Oasis reunion, Liam said he would not behave.

“No, no. You’re not meant to behave in Oasis. I think that was the problem, all of a sudden he was like, ‘Woah, what’s going on here man? What do you mean you’re still drinking, smoking, and staying up?’ He pulled out this book like, ‘No no, we’ve got to behave now.’ That don’t work.

Behaviour and being in Oasis, no, doesn’t work, I would not behave. I would get the gigs done, but I would certainly be having the crack, that’s what rock and roll is about isn’t it? Having a laugh. Who wants to see people walk on stage and behave? That’s not what it’s about.”

Noel Gallagher's Mum Will Be Guest Of Honour When He Supports U2 In Croke Park

Noel Gallagher will have a very special guest at his upcoming support slot to U2 in Croke Park – his mother Peggy.

The former Oasis star is determined to bring his Mayo-born mother back to Ireland to see him perform at Croker this summer.

A showbiz source revealed: “Noel is planning on bringing Peggy over with his wife Sara, daughter Anais and two sons, Donovan and Sonny.

“He knows it will be a special night supporting U2 in Croke Park and doesn’t want his mum to miss it.

“Peggy loves coming back from Manchester so it’s a perfect opportunity for her to take a trip home.”

Peggy made an appearance in the recent Oasis documentary Supersonic and spoke out about the strained relationship between her world-famous sons.

“I think there was that bit of jealously with Liam and Noel,” she said. “Noel was beautiful as a baby and then Liam comes along – it takes the limelight off you.

“You could tell disagreement was there with them. I was glad they were in a band together. I would not have wanted Liam in a band without Noel.

“But it all happened too quick.”

Peggy, 74, also recalled the day Liam came back with a recording contract. “Of course, I thought ‘this is great’,” she said.

“I never really thought it would go the way it did, though. Liam said: ‘All I want, mum, is to earn a bit of money and get myself some new clothes’. And then it all went haywire.”

Noel will take to the stage on July 8th in Croke Park ahead of U2 on their sold out Joshua Tree tour.

The singer is close pals with Bono and he and wife Sara holidayed with the Hewson family at Eze in the South of France last summer.

Meanwhile, Noel is spending this weekend celebrating his 50th birthday part in New York. And stunning Sara had one hell of a surprise for him when she arranged a private meeting with his hero Gerry Seinfeld while in the city.

Sara posted a picture of a happy looking Noel with the comedian, before later that night posting an image of him at dinner sitting between Sienna Miller and Helena Christensen with the hashtag #ifCarlsbergmadewives.

Noel turns 50 on May 29th.

Irvine Welsh Calls Liam and Noel Gallagher The 'Greatest' Of Their Generation

Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has spoken about the possibility of a Oasis reunion.

The first trailer for Trainspotting 2 was released last week and Welsh has told NME that the film sequel will be better than the original.

It was recently revealed that Oasis turned down the chance to appear on the first Trainspotting soundtrack because they thought the movie was about actual trainspotters, while actor Ewan McGregor has said that he got emotional when watching new Oasis documentary Supersonic.

Speaking in interview with NME, Welsh said of the likelihood of a possible Oasis reunion: “I don’t know. I think if [Noel and Liam Gallagher] can patch things up between them then they could probably work together again but they probably have too many things to go through the motions.”

“They’d have to be really vibing,” he continued. “One is one of the greatest singers of their generation and the other is one of the greatest songwriters and they grew up in the same house. They love each other but can they actually stand each other? If they get to that point then they could really do some great stuff again.”

Welsh also said that he experienced a similarly emotive response to Supersonic: “I just saw it recently, [Factory Records boss] Alan McGee sent it to me. It was fantastic. I actually just emailed Noel [Gallagher] the other day and told it him that. It really did bring out the emotions around the band. It was interesting.”

“I think [Gallagher mother] Peggy was the star of the show. She was really classic. She contextualised them and that all sort of sibling rivalry, she made it very human, something a lot of people can relate to. When it’s just two guys in a band, it seems like petulant pop stars but when you have the mother talking about them growing up, it makes it much more real and sympathetic.”

Liam Gallagher Says F*ck Oasis At The Screening Of New Movie Supersonic

Liam was in Manchester for a special premiere of the Mat Whitecross film, which is released in cinemas on October 7.

Liam Gallagher was back in Manchester to celebrate the release of the new Oasis rockumentary Supersonic - but he couldn't resist taking the opportunity to have a swipe at his big brother.

In a post-screening Q&A that was beamed live to over 300 UK cinemas, the younger Gallagher kept the fires of sibling rivalry burning when he was asked why Noel wasn't at the Manchester screening of the new Mat Whitecross movie.

He replied: "He's probably in his big house, eating tofu and having a face peel. That's what posh people do."

On fine four-letter form, Liam answered questions about his favourite memories of the early years of Oasis and whether the film - a collection of amateur home movies, concert footage, archive interviews and new chats with the band - had jogged his memory.

Liam, 44, said that he was surprised the director had managed to turn up so much footage because "I don't really like having cameras" around, and joked that his friends must have been secretly shooting it "under cover".

"They must have been ****ing sneaking it," he said. "When anyone whipped a camera out in those days I shut up shop."

Supersonic focuses on the band's early years, from the moment Noel joined Liam's band up to their record breaking gigs at Knebworth in 1996, when they became the biggest rock band in the world.

But it also touches on more challenging personal moments for the boys, including their difficult relationship with their father, Thomas, and the reasons for the tensions between the brothers.

Whitecross said he had deliberately chosen this period because the first few years for any new band are always the most 'interesting and unique'. He also praised the brothers - and especially their mum Peggy Gallagher - for their generous contributions to the film.

Liam's bandmate and the group's rhythm guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs was also in the audience and was eventually beckoned on stage by Liam to join in the Q&A. The pair shared a hug before bantering with each other about their feelings about the film and time in Oasis.

Liam teased Bonehead about his outfit, asking him if he'd been to expensive Northern Quarter mens fashion shop Oi Polloi. And he even tried to help a fan chose a name for her new baby girl, answering: "Elsa, how about that?", then changing his mind to Noleen.

Inevitably, Liam was also invited to answer questions about what he was up to next. His solo album "will be out when it's out", he said, and at one point he remarked, "F*** Oasis" - which might just confirm he has no intention of restarting a band with the brother he repeatedly calls 'the potato' on social media.

Peggy Gallagher Gives Fans A Rare Insight Into Liam And Noel's Lives

In a new documentary about Oasis, their mum Peggy lifts the lid on her warring sons and gives fans a rare insight into their lives.

Liam and Noel Gallagher are rock ’n’ roll’s most mischievous siblings, whose bitter feud isn’t ending any time soon.

And in a new documentary about Oasis , their mum Peggy lifts the lid on her warring sons, saying: “I’ve spent my life worrying about them.”

She gives fans a rare insight into the rock stars’ lives in new flick titled Supersonic.

Speaking in the film, she says: “I think there was that bit of jealously with Liam and Noel. Noel was beautiful as a baby and then Liam comes along – it takes the limelight off you.

“You could tell disagreement was there with them. I was glad they were in a band together. I would not have wanted Liam in a band without Noel.

“But it all happened too quick.”

The documentary charts their rise to superstardom, from their early days growing up on a council estate in Manchester, to their two historic gigs at Knebworth in 1996 in front of 250,000 fans.

Peggy, 73, recalls the day Liam came back with a recording contract. “Of course, I thought ‘this is great’,” she says.

“I never really thought it would go the way it did, though. Liam said: ‘All I want, mum, is to earn a bit of money and get myself some new clothes’. And then it all went haywire.”

She adds: “He used to sit out there in the kitchen and say ‘I’m going to be famous one day’ and you are going to be really proud of me.”

Peggy raised Liam, 44, and Noel, 49, along with their older brother Paul on her own after leaving violent dad Tommy.

And Liam praises her, saying: “Mum is an angel and still is. Not impressed by this rock ’n’ roll business and rightly so. I wanted to make her proud, and get her to stop doing three f***ing jobs. Put her feet up and have some nice things.”

Noel adds: “When I think of those times, she brought us up on her own really. She gave it all up for us.”

Despite being mummy’s boys, the film doesn’t hold back on hellraising antics.

They even recall throwing a whole bedroom out of a hotel window, and accidentally taking crystal meth when they thought it was cocaine at a gig in New York.

The film premieres in London and Manchester tomorrow night with Liam attending by helicopter.

We expect the afterparty to be just as raucous as the old days...

Liam And Noel Gallagher Use Mum Peggy To Check In On Each Other Every Day

The lengthy rift between Noel and Liam Gallagher has now surpassed the time Oasis spent feuding with Britpop rivals Blur.

But the man behind the band’s new documentary Supersonic has revealed the brothers have expressed their concern for each other through their mum Peggy.

In an exclusive interview, director Mat Whitecross said: “Peggy says they both ring her every day and the first thing they do is ask after each other.

“She said Liam in particular rings her five times a day and he’s always asking after Noel and she tells him ‘Well, pick up the phone then.’ ”

Despite recording all their interviews for the film separately to avoid any fights, Mat reckons there’s still a chance the brothers could reunite.

He said: “Liam is very keen – his thing is that ‘we were at our peak when we fell apart, let’s get back together, we are wasting time’.

“Whereas Noel says he would have to be offered an obscene amount of money to re-form – but he hasn’t ruled it out completely.”

Early Footage Of Liam And Noel Gallagher Wanted

The production team behind the Senna and Amy feature documentaries have turned their attention to one of Manchester's iconic bands and will look back on their early years - and they're asking friends and family of the Gallagher brothers for help.

Makers of an Oasis documentary that features new interviews with both Noel and Liam Gallagher, are reaching out to friends and fans of the band for rare archive material to help tell the group’s story.

Oasis - The Rock ’N’ Roll Band That Defined A Generation will chart the band’s history from their childhood in Burnage and through their early gigs up to the shows that defined them: Knebworth, in 1996, in front of quarter of a million fans over two nights.

The producers - the team behind acclaimed documentaries Senna and Amy - are not only keen to paint a picture of the band’s lives together but also of the community they grew up in.

And in particular they’re asking people to poke around in their attics and cupboards for any home movies of the boys in a school nativity play, which mum Peggy Gallagher fondly recalls.

The Mat Whitecross feature documentary, which will be released to cinemas in 2016, is produced by James Gay Rees (Senna/Amy), Fiona Neilson (Spike Island), and Simon Halfon (Sleuth), with executive producer Asif Kapadia (Senna/Amy).

It is entirely made up of archive material and though the band do not appear on screen they and their former management have been interviewed about this formative period.

After Knebworth, Oasis became international superstars, but the film hopes to paint the Gallaghers as lads shaped by the Irish community and the city they grew up in.

Researchers are now on the look out for personal photographs and film footage of the band’s childhood and back stage at early Manchester gigs, as well as pictures and memorabilia from their Maine Road shows just months before Knebworth.

They are also calling out to the Manchester Irish community for home movies that show what life was like for young people in Burnage when the Gallaghers were children - including christenings and school plays.

They need submissions in by early January and will return all items, as well as pay to use rare footage. All material can be sent to researcher Hannah Green on hannah.oasisfilm@gmail.com.

Hannah said: “The film will be about those early years, about the foundations of the band up to them hitting the big time in 1996.

“We want to set the whole scene of where the Gallaghers come from: their Irish background, the football games they played, the bands they were in.

“We don’t have much from their period as The Rain (before Noel joined Oasis), so we would particularly like to have photos or tickets from that time.”

Liam Gallagher Brands Brother Noel A 'Sell-Out'

One of their many brotherly disputes brought an end to the band that made them famous.

But it seems that Liam Gallagher is ready to fall out with brother Noel again, after he branded him a 'sell-out' for allowing one of Oasis' songs to be used in the John Lewis Christmas ad.
Having allowed the band's track, Half The World Away, to be used by the shopping giant for their latest festive ad campaign, the 43-year-old singer is furious with his elder brother.

The song, which Noel penned for the band's album, The Masterplan, has been re-recorded for John Lewis' Man On The Moon campaign.

And despite not having played a part in penning the hit, Liam is irate that his brother has allowed the band's song to be used - even going as far as to ban him from their local pub in the family's native Ireland.

One friend of the singer's, according to the Daily Mirror, said: 'Liam has been making his usual snidey remarks about the song being on the John Lewis advert.

'He's told mutual friends and family that Noel is a sell-out, and even joked that he won't be welcome in the local pub near their mum's house, J J Finan's - not that he can enforce that!'

The MailOnline has contacted representatives for both Liam and Noel for comment, but has yet to receive a reply.

The brothers who hail from Manchester - had both been expected to pay a visit to their mother Peggy's hometown of Charlestown, County Mayo, Ireland over the festive period.

But following the release of the Christmas ad campaign which saw Scandinavian singer Aurora cover the Oasis hit, Liam has declared he doesn't want to see his brother during the festive season.

'He accused Noel of being shameless for letting John Lewis use the track, and has told family he doesn't want the pair's visit to cross over,' the source added.
The outspoken star has never been afraid of voicing his opinion on anything, and Liam's apparently fiery response to his brother's decision will come as no surprise to fans of the Brit-pop brothers.

Equally as famous for their squabbling as for their musical ability, Liam and Noel's fractious relationship led to his older brother leaving Oasis in 2009 following an altercation backstage at a festival.

Are Oasis Getting Back Together?

Is a Glastonbury reunion part of the Masterplan for battling brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher who want one last chance to shiiiiiiiiine?

It's time to don your parka, practice your monkey walk, and comb your monobrow - Oasis are getting back together, some might say.

Insiders reckon Liam and Noel could be burying the hatchet for a reunion at Glastonbury.

But now insiders reckon that Peggy Gallagher's youngest boys have shaken hands and made up and Oasis are on for a desperate money making much anticipated reunion.

The Sun reports an Oasis insider saying: "Noel and Liam are on speaking terms again so some kind of a reunion could well be a step closer."

They added: "Liam could certainly do with the money. The cash just isn’t rolling in like it used to but his outgoings are bigger than ever...

“Noel doesn’t need the money but it is hard to turn down the buzz of stepping out on the biggest stages in the world, so who could blame him if he eventually changes his mind?

“It is clear he has fallen back in love with Glastonbury and would love to headline that again.”

Glastonbury festival chief Michael Eavis revealed he’s in constant talks with Noel and Liam – who announced Beady Eye had split last month.

Michael, 79, says: “I do talk to Noel and Liam a lot. Wouldn’t it be marvellous for them to relaunch at Glastonbury, now Liam has split from Beady Eye?”

Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, who played guitar in Oasis from 1991-1999 is now in a band with former Smiths' Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke.

Mirror Celeb bumped into him backstage at a Madchester reunion gig for the 50th birthday of Stone Roses axeman Aziz Ibrahim. When we quizzed him about an Oasis reunion Bonehead said he was "sworn to secrecy."

He told us: "I love Beady Eye. I love Noel's High Flying Birds too. But I can't say anything about a reunion.

"I'm sworn to secrecy."

"Besides, I'd be the last person to know."

"But I might offer to come back as band psychiatrist, wear a white coat and drive a bus!"
