Noel Gallagher Told Boxer 'Terry Flanagan' To Change His Nickname To 'Supersonic'

“Turbo” Terry Flanagan is set to go Supersonic in his mega-fight against Derry Mathews next month after gaining a celebrity fan in Oasis legend Noel Gallagher. The undefeated WBO Lightweight titlist met boxing fan Gallagher at the recent Arsenal-Manchester City Premier League clash and was knocked out meeting his idol for the first time.

Flanagan, who makes the the second defense of his title against Liverpool rival Mathews on Saturday February 13th at the Echo Arena, was rocked even more when Gallagher suggested changing his nickname to the Oasis hit song because of his thrilling, relentless, all-action style. Gallagher was a keen supporter of British great Ricky Hatton in his heyday and believes that Flanagan can become just as big as the “Hitman”.

Flanagan had this to say: “He’s a superstar and hero of mine but he’s still just a regular, down to earth, Manchester lad like me who loves music and football.

“I love Oasis’s music and use it to train to in the gym, classics like ‘Supersonic’ really gets my blood pumping for a fight, in fact he said I should replace my Turbo nickname with Supersonic because of the way I fight.

“Noel was a big fan of Ricky Hatton in his fighting days’ and said that I’m the new Ricky Hatton who can bring the much needed excitement in the sport just like Ricky did, which is big compliment.

“He said he’s looking forward to my fight against Mathews just like he looks forward to a Man City match against Liverpool, he’s really rocking for me to beat Mathews.

“I can’t wait for my fight with Mathews next year and I’ve got the perfect Oasis track for him when I’ve beaten him, ’Stop Crying Your Heart Out’.”

Noel Gallagher Celebrates Manchester City's 3-2 Win At Goodison Park

Some might say that even in a list of celebrity fans that includes Ricky Hatton, Alan Carr and his own brother, Noel Gallagher is still definitely (maybe) the most famous die-hard Manchester City supporter.

The former Oasis songwriter was at Goodison Park on Saturday to watch his beloved Blues roll with it as they edged a committed Everton side 3-2 to take a step closer towards reclaiming the Barclays Premier League title they last won dramatically in 2012.

The importance of being idle was lost on the High Flying Birds frontman as he mingled with supporters and rose from his seat to celebrate Sergio Aguero's opener and a brace from Edin Dzeko that takes City top of the table, level on points with Liverpool with a game in hand.

Can City Do It? Liam Gallagher And Ricky Hatton Give Fans View

Manchester City are within touching distance of their first league championship in 44 years. Roberto Mancini's men know a victory against relegation-threatened QPR on Sunday should be enough to pip United to the title.

Liam Gallagher

I WILL move back to Manchester if City win the title. I got back from Disneyland with the kids and we got beat by Arsenal so we were eight points behind and I was getting loads of grief from United fans in Disneyland. Even Daffy Duck is a secret Red I think, he was having a pop, so I thought it was well and truly over then.

Ricky Hatton

IT will be the biggest day of my football life. Ever since I've been a fan we've had to watch the enemy down the road win everything. It's been a living nightmare for City supporters. I don't want to speak too soon because the wheels can always come off. We've just got to get our noses over the finishing line. If we can't beat QPR at home on the last day to win the title then we don't deserve it.

Ricky Hatton Nearly Got Liam Gallagher Belted

Former world boxing champ Ricky Hatton’s confessed he almost got wide-boy rocker Liam Gallagher, 39, killed.

The beefcake, 32, said: “I was fighting in Mexico and Oasis were there for a gig. Noel and Liam came along and carried my belt into the ring for me.

“But when Liam got in there he didn’t know what to do with it so he went straight to my opponent and shoved it right in his face. My opponent was American/Italian so half the Sopranos were in the audience.

“I thought someone better get hold of Liam before we got killed.”

Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr, Ricky Hatton, Freddie Flintoff And Jason Manford To Cover Tom Jones?

Footie City rivals Stoke and Manchester are set for an FA Cup Final song ding-dong – after unveiling plans to get top showbiz names in on the act.

Sources at mega-rich Manchester City claim the club is planning to ask some of Britain’s most famous Blues to perform a Band Aid-style charity single.

And legendary crooner Sir Tom Jones is in talks with Stoke to revamp his classic tune Delilah.

The Sixties hit has long been a fans’ favourite at the Britannia Stadium and a spokesman said: “The club would be delighted if Tom agreed to re-do Delilah as the song for the FA Cup Final.

“The reaction of our supporters at Wembley for the semi-final – when Delilah was played over the PA system – was first class. It really helped make it feel like a home game.

“The song is sung by supporters at every game, home and away, and in particular when we score a goal. There were at least five renditions at Wembley for the 5-0 win over Bolton.”

In the Blue corner, Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher has been sounded out to help pen a song to help good causes.

Other names in the mix include legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, TV funnyman Jason Manford, ex-boxing champ Ricky Hatton and former England cricket star Freddie Flintoff.

Gallagher, 43, recently admitted he wasn’t far off doing something for his beloved Blues.

And a Man City source said last week: “The club wants to get some big names for a worthwhile song – and get the players involved too.

“It’s still uncertain what will happen but having Noel Gallagher take part makes a lot of sense.”

Gallagher said: “Someone called me from the club and asked if they could bounce a few ideas off me. If they asked seriously I don’t know. Let’s wait till they ask.”

Over-the-moon Stoke fans say they would love veteran Sir Tom, 70, to re-release a version of Delilah for them.

Supporters’ club chairman Bryan Shaw said the song gives the players and fans a lift.

“It started a long time ago when fans were trying to think of a song to sing that didn’t have any swear words in it,” he said.

“Somehow Delilah was chosen and it was an instant favourite.”

Ricky Hatton Admits He Chinned Liam Gallagher

At the weekend Hatton - who's said to be worth £40million - attended the launch of his mate Liam Gallagher's new clothing line in London. But he admits he chinned the Oasis frontman for ripping off his own fashion range.

Ricky laughs: "I couldn't believe how similar Liam's stuff was to mine. It's all typical Mancunian clothes with floppy hats and the likes. Liam calls me his fashion rival - but he's not in my class."

Ricky Hatton’s Feeling Pretty Green After Night Out With Liam Gallagher

I can guess who was feeling Pretty Green yesterday - Ricky Hatton.

The Hitman rocked up at the official launch of Oasis star Liam Gallagher's clothing line on Saturday night.

And the boxer spent most of the night wobbling about on the dancefloor at the London bash.

One party-goer said: "Ricky owned the dance floor all night. He was the star of the show. Sometimes he just stood there on his own. It was funny but a bit tragic. He was off his face."

It was an odd mix of folk at the Gore Hotel, in Kensington. I was shocked to see This Morning's seemingly-sweet host Holly Willoughby chatting to Liam's missus Nicole Appleton and on a tear-up with Kasabian and Richard Ashcroft.

Another surprise guest was Sugababe Heidi Range, there with her bloke Dave Berry.

One person noticeable by his absence though was, of course, Liam's brother NOEL.

Liam spent most of the night chatting to Miles Kane from The Last Shadow Puppets. There's talk he's trying to persuade Miles to form a band with him.

A source said: "Liam was being really passionate. It looked like he was recruiting."

Pretty Green designer Liam also paid a backhanded compliment to Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno.

He said: "He knows how to put an outfit together. He's got some style but he still needs a few tips from me."

Seemed like a top night. Liam even mixed his own tequila cocktail for the party.

It was probably too many of those which did for Ricky.

Last I heard they were all still at it in Liam's penthouse room at 8am yesterday.

It seems the rocker is showing no signs of slowing down.

Ricky Hatton Interview With StopCryingYourHeartOut.com

StopCryingYourHeartOut.com caught up with legendary British boxer Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton recently to discuss his new fight night: 'The Boys Are Back In Town'. The event will feature some of the top up and coming names in British Boxing and is being promoted by Ricky's own Hatton Promotions.

Here's what Ricky had to say about all things Boxing, Oasis and Man City.

Q: Hi Ricky hows things? and thanks for taking the time to do this.

Thanks for inviting me to answer some questions. I am taking advantage of the great British summer and resting at the moment

Q: You're friendship with Oasis goes back a long way, did you enjoy introducing the band in Liverpool for the first night of the UK tour last year. Was that a bit daunting for you? And did you enjoy the experience?

I have always been a massive Oasis fan. After my Family, Boxing and City the other passion in my life is Oasis. Through boxing I am fortunate to have appeared in front of big crowds, when I got asked to announce the lads at Liverpool it was a massive honour. It was just after some clown had had a go at Noel so I was bubbling inside with excitement. I jokingly warned that if anybody tried anything in Liverpool they would have to answer with me. Luckily nobody got up.

Q: Do you own any Oasis memorabilia, if you do whats your favorite piece?

I save all my laminates but the best thing I have is a Manchester City guitar signed by Noel and Liam and Mani from The Stone Roses. It has pride of place in my games room. I have a signed photograph from Noel and Liam where we are all together in the ring after the Malignaggi fight.

Q: Noel told us in a interview he did with us earlier this year, that after your fight with Malignaggi you went on a almighty piss-up spanning two continents. What was it like to be on the road with Oasis? And do you have any good stories to tell us?

It was brilliant being on the road, I was in Mexico City, I was like Gulliver because the Mexicans are all small. Its a good job I was there, I made sure they were in bed early, only joking. Then three weeks later I was in Las Vegas for the De La Hoya fight and we rushed straight over to the Palms to watch the lads. I met up with them backstage and I went for a quiet pint or two with Noel and Russell Brand in the Playboy Club. On the way up I borrowed a wheel chair and made my entrance to the club with my leg in the air. Noel creased himself, after Vegas I think they must have thought I was stalking them.

Q: What did Liam say to Malignaggi when he thrusted one of your belts into his face? As he looked a bit annoyed at what Liam said to him.

From what I can recall, Liam went over to Malignaggi and shoved one of my belts in front of them and said something like "what do you think of that" that got me a bit worried because Paulie is an Italian from New York and he had half the Sopranos with him. To make things worse some clown arranged for Oasis and there security to be sat behind the Malignaggi corner during the fight, but it was absolutely amazing to have all the lads at the fight. They came in the dressing room before the fight. Imagine having Oasis the full band, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, David Beckham all in the same room at the same time brilliant. It was an honour for me to have Liam and Noel walk me out with the belts.

Q: Liam gave you some items from his Pretty Green label, what did you think of them? And have you given Liam any of your own range as he does quite a bit of jogging these days?

I love the Pretty Green stuff just up my street, I wear the hats all the time. I didn't know he was out jogging I will send him some kit.

Q: What's your favorite album by Oasis? And Why?

I think my favourite album is Don't Believe The Truth, it has tracks like Lyla and A Bell Will Ring which was dedicated to me when Oasis played Manchester City's ground a couple of years back. I was in Tenerife and all my mates phoned me to tell me.

Q: What's your favorite track by Oasis? And Why?

Its hard to pick one tune, I would say Cigarettes And Alcohol, Live Forever and Rock 'n' Roll Star.

Q: You are now promoting fights with your own stable of fighters, do you think you can find the next big thing?

I will let people decide for themselves on that but I know that with my boxing experience and I have a great team around me that there is no reason why in the coming years Hatton Promotions will be a force to be reckoned with. We already have 8 Sky TV dates for the next year starting in September.

Q: What have you learned from previous promoters, that you will use in your new career?

I have seen a lot on the way up some good and some not so good. But the thing that stands out for me is the model that Goldenboy uses. I want to be the same show the fighters exactly what is on the table so they know what they are getting. I want transparency.

Q: If you could promote any boxer current or past, who would it be and why?

Roberto Duran my hero, he was always in an exciting fight and a great ticket seller, just what a promoter needs

Q: Regardless of weight, if you could choose to fight anyone in history who would it be?

Again if I could fight him Roberto Duran. It would have been an honour and I would have seen just how good he really was.

Q: Who is the most talented natural fighter you've ever stepped into the ring with?
Its a toss up between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather sadly they both beat me but they are without doubt the best.

Q: You have launched your own clothing range and have recently opened a brand new gym too. Are there any other projects you are working on at the moment that you can tell us about?

I am very busy at the moment one of my projects is www.hattonboxing.tv I have my own TV show on the Internet and they film the fights at my promotions and do some great interviews, check it out

Q: Out of Liam and Noel who would make the better boxer?

Liam or Noel, that's a tricky one I don't know who would win but I wouldn't mind promoting it.

Q: What other band's/artists do you like?

Apart from Oasis, I like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Stone Roses, James, Kings Of Leon but I also like all types of music from Sinatra and Elvis through to Johnny Cash

Q: What was the first album you bought?

Oasis Be Here Now was the first album I bought

Q: In certain parts of Manchester you are known as the Karaoke King with renditions of Elvis classics. Do you do any Oasis numbers?

I have been known to do Oasis, I would say Wonderwall is my karaoke song from Oasis

Q: Manchester City have made some great signings this summer, who are you most excited about joining you and why?

City have signed some world class players I think I will be looking forward to seeing Tevez, he has come from the dark side and he is no nonsense and a grafter, but like I said we have a lot of world class players

Q: If they made a film of your life, who would you like to play you and why?

If they made a film of me they would need two actors, Tom Cruise in training and Johnny Vegas out of training.

Q: I have read in several newspapers a few years ago you bought a Only Fool And Horse 3 Wheeled Van, complete with a blow up doll and a Dell Boy suit and hat. Do you drive around in it, or is it kept locked up in the garage?

I have the Trotters van in my garage. when it comes to television that is without doubt my favourite programme. I have it in the garage. I got it mot' d lately so I can go for a spin in it. I even starred in a spin off of Only Fools And Horses called Green Grass. I met Boycie and Marlene, luvley jubbly.
