Noel Gallagher's Guide To Real-Life High-Flying Birds

Noel Gallagher has never been one to shy away from stating his opinions, whether about Katie Holmes ("top Scientologist"), his new solo album Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds ("It's just a good record, what can I say?"), social networking ("I don't need a million friends; I've got six friends and I'm f---ing trying to get rid of one of those") or innumerable other topics. This is just part of the reason why, in addition to being a genuine rock god, he's also a bit of a New Age guru.

So when Gallagher stopped by the MTV newsroom earlier this month to promote High Flying Birds — and dispel rumors that he was about to bury the hatchet with his brother Liam and re-form Oasis — in addition to talking all about the album, we had to ask him for his take on various other high-soaring members of the Avian family. And, of course, he didn't disappoint.

From his take on Rüeppell's griffon — "sounds like a German tank commander from the Second World War" — to the whooper swan — "tastes great" — to his wholesale dismissal of Canadian geese and the South American condor as "idiots," Gallagher had plenty to say about the birds that dare to fly high.

And so, in celebration of not just his really great solo album, but his unfettered hatred for all flying creatures, we'd like to present to you "Noel Gallagher's Guide to High-Flying Birds." Watch the embedded video and be amazed at the genius this man possesses. And no, despite the fact it's Thanksgiving, he didn't mention turkeys. Turns out they can't get high enough for his liking.

VIDEO BELOW ONLY WORKS IN US, AS SOON AS AN ALTERNATIVE IS AVAILABLE I WILL POST IT.

The video below is from November 23rd 2008, when Liam and Noel Gallagher carried their friend Ricky Hatton's belts into the ring before his win against Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas.

After Hatton's win Noel congratulated his friend by planting a kiss on him.

Hatton had previously said that, "When I think of the most important things in my life, there's my family first and Campbell my son, then I've got boxing, next comes Manchester City, then it's Oasis."

Read our interview with Ricky Hatton that was posted in 2009 here, it includes a number of personal pictures of him with the Gallagher's.

Tonight, 22:00 on BBC Two and BBC HD (UK Only)

Joining Jools on this last programme in the current series are: LA's own alternative rock/funk superstars Red Hot Chili Peppers with songs from their tenth studio album I'm With You, and Iceland's biggest musical export Bjork with pieces from her newest album Biophilia. The album began as a true interactive experience and combined music with technological innovation and themes of science and nature, and was the first-ever 'app album'. It has also now surfaced as a traditional release.

Also in the studio, from Burnage, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds with songs from his debut album, which made it to number one in the UK album chart.

Making their TV debuts on the show are East London's answer to The Strokes, Spector, who perform a couple of their sparkly pop tunes, and also from London, Michael Kiwanuka, a 23-year-old son of Ugandan immigrants whose sound has been compared to Bill Withers and Van Morrison.

Completing the series, from Nashville, singer songwriter Gillian Welch, joined by her musical partner and guitarist Dave Rawlings on a couple of songs from her album The Harrow and the Harvest.

An extra show will be broadcast on Friday with more songs from the artists.

Noel And Liam Gallagher Were Probably On Hacking List, Says Alan McGee

Alan McGee has suggested that Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher were probably targeted by those hacking phones at the News of the World.

The ex-Creation Records boss, who signed the brothers' band Oasis to his label in 1993, wrote in a Huffington Post blog that it was unlikely that they were not targets.

McGee said: "If I am on the list, then personally I find it impossible to think that people like Noel and Liam won't be too as more names are revealed.

"Of course I will try to sue News International, as they deserve all of the grief and bad publicity possible for what they have done to people."

Of his name being found in Glenn Mulcaire's notebook, McGee added: "I sent Noel Gallagher a text to tell him I was on the hack list. I think he fancies being on it too.

"All they would have got from my voicemail in August 2005 were the ramblings of Courtney Love. Back then I would regularly wake up to 47 messages from her, which I would delete every day without listening to.

"If I was indeed hacked then Mulcaire would definitely have heard Courtney's messages, poor guy!"

In the blog, McGee also denied recent reports that he had owned a tooth of John Lennon's which was recently bought at an auction.

"It was a funny story, but not true," he said. "Why would I want to own John Lennon's rotten tooth?"

Lord Leveson's inquiry into press ethics continues today.
