Dylan Moran: 'Oasis Were Boring'

Dylan Moran has said that Oasis were always a boring band.

The stand-up comedian told The Quietus that he much prefers the Arctic Monkeys to the now-split Manchester group.

Moran said: "The Arctic Monkeys are very witty. It's a banging tune with funny lyrics and they're having a whale of a time. What more do you want? Why does it have to be an apocalypse?

"Oasis were boring the first time around. It's reconstituted from a f**king 60s compilation. It's music for people whose idea of a good time is roaring your lungs, never remembering anything you did yesterday and trying to pick out pieces of chicken tikka masala out of your pubes."

He added of his tastes as a teenager: "I was very into New Order, Joy Division, all of that when I was younger. I had a lot of bootlegs that I saved up my pocket money to buy.

"I had all the obscure early EPs. I did throw a lot of eggs into one basket, as you do in your teenage years - 'I am buying THESE records, I am wearing THIS'. I did quite a bit of that. You have to do it, wear your stupid shoes, wear your stupid hair."

On This Day In Oasis History...

Let There Be Love" is a song on the British rock band Oasis' sixth album, Don't Believe the Truth. Written by Noel Gallagher, it is the second Oasis song to feature Liam and Noel on lead vocals, the first being the B-Side "Acquiesce". It was released on November 28, 2005 as the third single from the album in the UK, and the second single in the US. It reached number two in the UK charts, capping a very successful year for the band. Many critics cited this song as proof that Oasis had returned to form we had seen in the mid-90's.

A demo for the track was recorded during demo sessions for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. A bootleg of these demo sessions was leaked onto the Internet in early 2000. This track was given the unofficial title "It's A Crime" on many bootlegs as the track was unknown and unreferenced anywhere before then. The album version of the song is structurally almost exactly as the same as the demo with a slight change in melody in the part that Noel sings. The lyrics to the chorus remains intact, but the verses and bridge have totally rewritten lyrics.

The single version of the song omits the second verse and chorus.



A second, Noel-sung demo was released on the "Let There Be Love" DVD single. It has the same lyrics as the album version, and in fact the album version takes some elements from the demo such as the piano. It was probably recorded sometime in 2003 or 2004, prior to the main Don't Believe the Truth recording sessions.

The video is a montage of some of Oasis' live shows during the summer of 2005 including clips of the gigs at Hampden Park and the City of Manchester Stadium. The clips don't actually show the band playing 'Let There Be Love'.

The song has only been played live once, on an Italian radio show in late 2005.

Kasabian's Oasis Sadness

Kasabian admit they were upset when Oasis split up but denied rumours they are set to be joined by the group's former guitarist Noel Gallagher.

Kasabian were "very, very sad" when Oasis split up.

The 'Fire' hitmakers - who supported the 'Live Forever' stars on their UK tour earlier this year - admit they were devastated when guitarist Noel Gallagher walked out on the group, triggering their demise, in August because they had been fans for so long.

Frontman Tom Meighan said: "Oasis breaking up was very, very sad. We were gutted because they were our rock star heroes, when I was 16, 17 years old, they were my heroes.

"But they'll both carry on doing what they do. It's none of my business really, what they're doing. I love them equally."

The singer also laughed off persistent speculation that Noel is said to join them - but admits he would never rue it out completely.

He added to the Leicester Chronicle newspaper: "Well, it's just ridiculous. It's weird because we never, ever said Noel was going to join us.

"It's funny, but now we've got to answer to everyone and it gets a bit boring. You never know, because nothing's out of the question.

"But really, no, Noel Gallagher isn't joining Kasabian."

Debating the quality of music must be one of Britain’s favourite pastimes. Rarely, however, does conversation turn to influential music. This list is designed not to provide a definitive guide, but to give you food for thought and provide a catalyst for further debate. So here goes: the 10 most influential albums of all time.

10. The Spice Girls - Spice

Mock if you will, but we’re talking about the most influential here, and make no mistake, The Spice Girls sensation changed music. Scary, Sporty, Posh, Baby and Ginger burst the Britpop bubble with the release of Spice: the fastest and bestselling album by a British artist since The Beatles. Liam Gallagher must have been sobbing into his Burberry jacket...

09. The Who - My Generation

Initially dismissed as a rushed and unrepresentative piece of work by The Who themselves after its release in 1965, My Generation has since cemented itself as one of the best rock albums of all time. The Who lent a fresh sound to rock, incorporating synthesized sounds that had rarely been heard beforehand, and inspiring future artists of the heavier rock kind, most notably, Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Iron Maiden.

08. The Clash - London Calling

It’s difficult to imagine a more fertile music environment than the North of England in the 1970’s and 80’s. One could be forgiven for thinking that you wouldn’t be able to walk down the street in Manchester in 1980 without bumping into Ian Cutis or Paul Weller. London Calling marked a change in direction for the band; their intriguing blend of rock, ska and pop really gave those Northerners a thing or two to think about.

The most commercially successful album of all time, Thriller is considered MJ’s greatest musical achievement. This was his sixth studio album, however, and for this reason, its actual influence in terms of a change in direction in music is debatable. Nevertheless, the influence Jackson had and continues to have on pop music is too significant to ignore. Everybody loves this album.

06. David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars

Put simply, there hasn’t been anything like this before or since. Bowie’s originality is little short of staggering, with this album undoubtedly being his very finest work. Consistently credited as one of the most significant rock albums ever, Ziggy Stardust transcended its glam rock foundations to influence a number of other musical genres.

05. Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley

One word springs to mind. Originality. There was absolutely nothing like this before Elvis released his debut album in 1956. One could argue that Bill Haley was the proverbial ‘Big Bang’ in the rock world, but The King was something different altogether. He was a trailblazer in every sense of the word. He dared to go where no artist had gone before. He pretty much invented, mastered and then set alight the world of Rock and Roll, becoming quite literally one of the most iconic and recognisable figures of the 20th Century. He transcended music, and occupies a mantle not all that dissimilar to that of God to this day. Enough said...

04. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

This album is another example of a true change in direction. The experimental vocal harmonies, inventive instrumentals and sound effects make the cut of this album’s jib very interesting indeed, and nothing short of an absolute masterpiece. Cited by Paul McCartney and The Beatles as a major influence on their work, Pet Sounds largely dictated the direction in which pop music went for decades into the future.

03. Oasis - Definitely Maybe

In bronze medal position, we have one of the most successful British bands of all time. These pioneers of Britpop followed in the footsteps of their punk and post-punk rock predecessors and perhaps defined the 1990s. Locked in an intense charts battle with main rivals Blur in 1996, Oasis ultimately won the war and continued to make critically acclaimed music well into the noughties. Definitely Maybe is often hailed as the greatest album of all time by critics and the list of bands that claim to have been influenced by Oasis reads like a who’s who of modern music. The Killers, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian; I could continue... Oasis’s influence is simply staggering and this is the album that introduced them to the world.

02. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Well, you knew it was coming didn’t you. Think this is a bit of a cliché? There’s a reason why things become clichés. It’s because they’re inescapably true. Every now and again something comes along that just changes everything, and in the world of music, this is one such thing. The Beatles’s eighth studio offering was received with both popular and critical acclaim, achieving incomprehensible commercial success. This album virtually provided the soundtrack to the 1960’s. One critic even branded Sgt. Pepper: "A decisive moment in the history of Western civilization". Make of that what you will. Maybe they were more popular than God...

01. The Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols

October 27th 1977. An unsuspecting British music scene is rudely awakened by Johnny Rotten screaming ‘I am an anarchist!’ If the previous 9 albums combined caused ripples in the music world, Never Mind the Bollocks was a 1000ft tidal wave of punk rock innovation that violently shook the very foundations of British music. Underestimate the influence of this album at your peril. It is unquestionably the most significant offering out of all the Manchester Brand artists of the era. When one considers that this list includes the likes of Joy Division, The Clash and The Jam, this statement mounts The Buzzcocks upon a solid gold plinth of musical infamy and superstardom. Without it, it’s unlikely you’d have heard of bands like Blink 182 and Greenday. It really was that important. Think I’m talking out of my hat? Listen to it and then listen to American Idiot. You’ll see what I mean...

Noel Gallagher To Appear In Coronation Street Next Year?

Coronation Street chiefs want to bring back Hilda Ogden and others to the cobbles.

Show favourites Mavis Wilton, Curly Watts and Tracy Barlow could also ­return – alongside a guest appearance ­by Oasis star Noel Gallagher.

ITV bosses are busy planning next year’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

And producer Kim Crowther is currently trying to line up Noel, 42.

In an online live chat with fans, producer Kim let slip they are planning the return of some old faces next year.

She said: “There may well be some exciting returning cast in the new year.

“We are planning lots for the 50th anniversary; it will be must-see television. It would be fab to see Tracy Barlow [Kate Ford, 32] back, wouldn’t it?

“I would love to bring Hilda back – and ­Mavis. Noel Gallagher would be great. There are also plans for some new faces in the factory.”

Other characters rumoured to be making a comeback include Karen, played by Suranne Jones, 30, and Curly, played by Kevin Kennedy, 48.

Jean Alexander, 83, played cleaner Hilda and her final scenes in 1987 attracted more than 27million viewers.

Mavis, played by Thelma Barlow, 80, left the show in 1997.

Interview With Bonehead

......The Vortex may have that well-documented attitude on stage but off it they are perfect gentlemen; opting to sit all night amongst their own fans rather than hiding away backstage in a bubble of their own self-importance. Keen to keep the rock ‘n’ roll myth alive however, the band are earlier spotted before the doors of the venue are opened, indulging in an excessive pre-gig cocktail of steak pie, chips and veg...

Bonehead still enjoys the designer labels and Jaguar motor cars that his self-made wealth allows him but he’s refreshingly grounded. Despite travelling the world more than once as part of the biggest band of the last twenty years he‘s under no illusions as to who creates the best atmosphere.

“I’ve done places like Rio and I’ve done Sydney and I’ve done New York, all these places, and people say, ‘What’s your favourite city in the world to play?’…. Glasgow mate. Why? The people. The reaction. The passion. They do it. It doesn’t matter if you play the Barrowlands or you play an arena. We played in Bathgate last night and they were down the front dancing. They were having it. They were loving it.”

It’s difficult not to mention Oasis when speaking to Bonehead. After all, he was in the Burnage band before a Gallagher had even joined and he was a major factor in creating that ‘wall of sound’ on their best-loved albums. But any thoughts of avoiding the subject of his former band are quickly dashed when front man Mike Price mocks Bonehead during his sound check with jocular taunts of “Supersonic!” and “Live Forever!”

But Bonehead looks back fondly on his time with Oasis. He’s quite rightly proud of what they achieved.

“We were really, really fortunate in the fact that we turned up at King Tut’s, Alan McGee happened to be there, he liked what he saw and he said, ‘I like it. I love it. Do you want a record deal?’ We were in the right place at the right time, simple as that. We were just lucky in that sense.”

And does Bonehead ever wonder what Oasis would have achieved had McGee not missed his train that night?

“We did have a demo but we didn’t hand it out to people. Who knows what we would’ve done. Would we have handed it out to record companies? Would we have got bored with that? I don’t know.”

So what does Bonehead think his band needs to do now, 16 years later, to get a record deal in this digital age?

“These days it’s a lot different. You’ve got MySpace, you’ve got Facebook, you’ve got the Internet, you’ve got a massive tool there.

Record companies aren’t what they were. We were selling millions. Bands don’t sell millions of records anymore. Record companies don’t have any money anymore so who knows? It’s a day at a time for us.”

From multi-million selling albums and sell-out tours with Oasis in the nineties to the unsigned but hungry and ambitious Vortex in the noughties. How did Bonehead get himself back into a band and playing live again?

“I was doing a radio show on BBC Radio Manchester with Terry Christian. Terry left and I ended up doing it with two girls who are big friends with Nick, the bass player in The Vortex, and I got to know Nick through them.

He turned and said ’We’re doing a gig in Manchester, do you want to DJ before we come on?’ I said, ’I’ll tell you what, I might come on and do a few songs with you cos I really like your stuff’ and it turned into a regular thing where the Vortex were playing and I’d jump on and do two songs because I enjoyed doing that.

I really wanted to join them but I didn’t dare ask them and they didn’t ask me so I just butted in… You‘ve got to be cheeky in life.”

Conscious of the fact that Bonehead and Nick do most of the talking and not wanting to be cheeky to the rest of the band, I ask front man Mike how he’s enjoying life on the road. Mike is a little coy about answering questions but has something he wants to get off his chest:

“I don’t do interviews. Chris Martin’s shit though I’ll tell you that and Coldplay are fucking rubbish.”

So that’s why McGee didn’t liken The Vortex to his favourite “bed-wetters” then…

Daniel Sullivan Found Guilty In Attack On Noel Gallagher

Daniel Sullivan doesn't remember how he got backstage.

But the Pickering man, 48, admits he was drunk when he barrelled across the Toronto Island stage and shoved British rock star Noel Gallagher into a speaker, breaking three of the Oasis songwriter's ribs.

On Friday Sullivan pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm for the September 2008 attack, which was captured on video by several fans and has garnered worldwide attention on the Internet.

At the concert, the band had launched into its 1995 hit "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" when Sullivan sneaked by stage security, skipped over the electric cords and passed the drum kit to charge into the guitarist from behind.

He then turned and lunged at Gallagher's younger brother, singer Liam, but was tackled by three security guards.

The crowd of 25,000 cheered when the singer jabbed and kicked Sullivan while security dragged him offstage. He continued to struggle and scream as police arrested him backstage, court was told.

"(Sullivan) was intoxicated at the time. He doesn't remember how he got there," Crown attorney Ruth Kleinhenz said outside the courtroom.

Sullivan only recalls trying to climb over a fence before falling on his back, according to an agreed statement of facts.

The judge ordered a pre-sentence report for Sullivan to determine whether there are any extenuating circumstances that should affect his Feb. 5 sentencing.

Calls to Sullivan's Pickering home on Friday went unanswered.

In the moments after the tackle, the band stood stunned and Gallagher's guitar rang with feedback. Gallagher walked offstage, where he stayed for several minutes before returning to perform the last 20 minutes of the set.

Noel Gallagher Attacker Admits To Oasis On-Stage Shove

A clean-cut Pickering man admitted yesterday he attacked Noel Gallagher while the leader of British rock band Oasis performed in Toronto last year.

Daniel Sullivan pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm against Gallagher, whose band was headlining at the Virgin Music Festival, on Toronto Island on Sept. 7, 2008.

“Sullivan managed to make his way up to the main stage area, run past the electrical cords set up along the stage, pass the drum kit and lunge toward Noel Gallagher, shoving him violently from behind with great force,” said Crown attorney Ruth Neilson in reading an agreed statement of facts to Justice Richard Schneider in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Gallagher, who was facing the crowd and playing his guitar at the time, suffered three fractured ribs when he fell forward on to a speaker. Sullivan then turned and ran toward Liam Gallagher, the leader singer who was standing 10 feet away from his brother Noel.

“Sullivan almost made it to Liam Gallagher, but was tackled by security and was taken to the ground on stage,” said Neilson.

“He was held backstage for police to attend. Police report Sullivan was resisting, struggling and screaming as he was arrested. Officers tried to calm him down.”

Neilson said Sullivan was intoxicated at the time and has no recollection of how he was able to mount the stage, except that he “remembers attempting to climb over the fence .

“It appears no one attempted to prevent Sullivan from gaining access to the stage until he was tackled on stage by Oasis,” said Neilson.

Noel Gallagher was taken off stage and felt “winded” for some minutes but resumed playing the last 20 minutes of the show, court heard.

When he was re-assessed two days later, he was told to cancel all performances until he was better. He kept feeling pain for the next two weeks.

A CT scan in London, England on Sept. 22, revealed he had fractured his ninth, tenth and eleventh ribs on his left side.

As a consequence, Oasis was forced to cancel five concerts that were scheduled to promote the band’s new recording. One of those concerts was slated for London, Ontario, and another was a major record launch in New York City.

Noel Gallagher stated it took eight months before he felt normal again.

Oasis rescheduled the London, On., concert last December.

Schneider ordered a pre-sentence report for the 48-year-old Sullivan. His sentencing hearing was scheduled for Feb. 5, 2010.

Miles Kane To Work With Liam Gallagher

Miles Kane says he wants to get his new friend Liam Gallagher to appear on his forthcoming solo album.

Liam Gallagher is to make a record with Miles Kane.

The former Oasis singer - who recently revealed he wants to head back out on the road, two months after the group split following the departure of his guitarist brother Noel Gallagher - has befriended the Last Shadow Puppets star, who said he hopes the 'Live Forever' hitmaker will team up with him on his new solo LP.

Miles told NME magazine: "I was chatting to Liam at his party. He's my hero and we both love Lennon and we were just chatting about my record and what he's up to.

"I've got a couple of tunes on my record that are very Liam, there's 'My Fantasy', which he'd be great singing on, who knows, leave it open."

Liam recently revealed he is currently working on new material with Oasis bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock.

He said: "We're sort of doing things at the moment. Not Oasis, Oasis is done. But with everyone except for Noel."

Liam Gallagher: 'New Songs Are Better Than Oasis'

Liam Gallagher, the former Oasis singer, has disclosed that he is working on new songs and claims they are better than anything he ever recorded with his former act.

The 37-year-old, has been working with fellow ex-Oasis members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Zak Starkey after his brother Noel quit the band in August.

Gallagher said he hopes to go into the studio early next year and release the new tracks on an album by July.

In an interview with MTV Italy, Gallagher said: ''We've been demo-ing some songs that we've had about, that we've had for a bit. Just doing that, on the quiet, not making a big fuss about it.

''After Christmas we might go in the studio and record them and hopefully have an album out in July.

''We'll do it in a different kind of way now. I'll try and reconnect with a new band, new songs, and I'm feeling confident about the songs.

''I'm feeling a million per cent confident that they could be better than Oasis.''

Noel Gallagher walked out on the band prior to a show in Paris in the summer after the troubled relationship with his brother hit a new low.

Prior to Noel's departure, it became clear that the brothers barely spoke after years of bickering.
Liam Gallagher said in the MTV interview: ''I love him to bits but we just don't get on. Me and our kid have never been that close anyway. We'd only sort of hang out when we were on tour. We didn't have a solid relationship.''

He also said he is continuing to promote his clothing range Pretty Green, with a view to opening a store in Britain next year.

"Music is where it's at," he added. "Music is first, clothes are second. If it all goes well hopefully we can maybe get a shop in London. If it goes really well we'll get a shop in Italy. I want it to be all over the world."

Liam Gallagher's New Band Almost Ready To Go?

Liam Gallagher has revealed he is working on new material with Gem Archer, Andy Bell, Jay Darlington and Chris Sharrock and said he hoped to release an album by July.

In an interview with MTV Italy, Liam said he had been "demo-ing" tracks with his bandmates.

Italian fan site Wonderwall.it reported earlier this week that Liam Gallagher told Italian fans waiting outside his hotel that his new, yet to be named band, already has seven demos recorded.

And that the band are currently talking to a number bass players, as Andy will switch to guitar to help Gem take up the empty spot Noel has left behind.

Creation Records Founder Alan McGee Discusses Oasis And The Britpop Years

Oasis will get back together because the warring Gallagher brothers love each other but won’t admit it, according to the man who launched them to rock stardom.

Creation Records founder Alan McGee, whose label has sold 60 million records and signed Oasis in 1993, has moved from London to enjoy an “early retirement” in a retreat near Hay-on-Wye, Powys.

As their mentor, Glaswegian McGee compared his shock on hearing about the band’s split in August to the death of Michael Jackson.

But he said he is still in regular contact with Liam and Noel – separately – and is confident that they will reform in the future.

“It is hard for them but we still get on great,” he said.

“I saw Noel last week and Liam the other month and I’m big mates with Bonehead (former guitarist Paul Arthurs),” he said.

“Yeah, I see Marcus Russell (manager) who owns Ebbw Vale’s Rugby Club and Owen Morris is a talented producer.

“At the moment, there is no chance of Oasis getting back together and I don’t want to go into it. But the brothers love each other. They are great people.”

McGee signed Oasis as Britpop began to rise and form the backbone of the cultural movement known as “Cool Britannia”.

But after being invited to a high-profile Britpop party by former Prime Minister Tony Blair in the 1990s, he now says he feels cheated by Labour.

“I can’t forget Britpop but we were all conned,” he said.

“After 17 years of the Tories, we needed to get them out.

“We thought we were getting a Labour like a mix of Harold Wilson and Jim Callaghan – but in Blair we really got another Margaret Thatcher.

“Me and 13 people were conned. This Government has committed crimes against humanity in Iraq, destroyed our civil liberties with CCTV and given us a nanny state which is serving the banks.”

But he is full of praise for Brecon and Radnor Liberal Democrat MP Roger Williams, who called at his house after he complained about access problems.

“Roger gets my vote,” he said. “In London I didn’t even know the name of my MP.”

At the end of the 1990s, the Creation empire crumbled after a hangover from a decade of drug abuse which saw McGee suffering from debilitating cocaine-related breakdowns.

He says his “well-documented bad behaviour” will feature in the film Upside Down: The Story Of Creation Records, which is released in March.

But McGee stresses that his days of drink and drugs are now well and truly over for the sake of his two children, aged 21 and nine.

“I don’t drink or take drugs anymore. At 49 years old, I did eventually grow up,” he said.

“People keep wanting me to get back into the record business, offering me crazy jobs like getting involved in an internet project, funded by the Chinese. But kind of like just being a dad.

“I spend most of my time DJing with Death Disco in London and Hay-on-Wye and on the computer – I’m a turning into a virtual recluse, an eccentric,” he joked.

“It is undignified when you have kids to be a ‘cano’ or an alcoholic. With kids it’s different; I want them to be proud of me.

“And me and the kids are happier than we’ve ever been in Hay-on-Wye, and the missus is getting there.”

Jedward mania has given me a novel idea of how one could reunite Oasis - give the band a new name that's a combination of the Gallagher brothers' names.

Niam or Loel? Could that work?

The Jedward phenomena has passed me by a bit. All I know is if I was in a band, the name of which was a composite of the two members, I'd be cheesed off if I only got one letter and my brother had his whole name in.

Edward must be the more dominant twin - in fact, if they go solo he'll flourish while J will struggle to get a J-ob. I think maybe J was originally conjoined to Edward's nut-bag and was grown in a petri dish.

I have no evidence to back this theory - it's what we journalists call a hunch. Noel's "too good" girlfriend Sara is with Bizarre Lord Noel for all the right reasons.

Noel revealed to me that when the pair were viewing houses he was vexed by Sara's indifference to his work. He asked the estate agent for a property with a study for him to write music in.

"I've never seen you write any music?" said Sara. Baffled Noel responded: "You do accept that I do write music though?"

She retorted: "I've never seen you."

The exchange ended with the wrinkly Mancunian rocker dragging his gorgeous Scots bride down to Our Price to marvel at his back catalogue.

Oh well, at least she's not with him just because he's famous - it must be the eyebrows, which look suspiciously like they may have been trimmed of late.

The day after that was revealed I had an extraordinary encounter.

I like to go running on London's Hampstead Heath of a morning and am keen to maintain my trademark black clobber while I burn the calories in preparation for my next film Arthur, in which I'm inexplicably naked fifty per cent of the time.

I wear these tight black leggings when I run, which I like to think make me look like Spider-Man when he goes evil. But just might actually make me look a bit of a ponce.

Especially as they don't leave much to the ol' imagination - sex-organ-wise.

Imagine my horror, then, when on one of my morning sprints I heard: "All right big b*ll*cks", shouted by an approaching runner. The terror was compounded when close inspection revealed it to be Hampstead's rowdiest keep-fit fanatic Liam Gallagher.

Thankfully he was wearing the Exact same costume as me.

Who had the bigger package? Well we didn't stop to compare, but I left the encounter with a real spring in my step.

Gran Swears At Liam Gallagher

Foul-mouthed former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was left stunned when he tried to help a gran with her shopping - and she swore at him.

The shocked singer, 37, said: "I was trying to help this old lady with a big picture she was carrying.

"I offered to help and she told me to go f*** myself - twice.

"I said, 'I beg your pardon?' and she said, 'You heard, f*** off'.

"I was only trying to do a good deed - that's the last time I try and help an old lady."

Liam Gallagher's New Band 'To Gig Within A Couple Of Months'

Liam Gallagher will be performing live with his new band within a few months.

The former Oasis singer revealed during a radio interview that he's already working on material with the rest of his old band - Andy Bell and Gem Archer - and minus brother Noel.

"I'll be back doing that within a couple of months." Liam told listeners of Italian station Radio Deejay, when asked when we can expect to see him performing live again. "I've just done a tour, I always miss singing songs. I miss the people."

"We're sort of doing things at the moment. Not Oasis, Oasis is done. Everyone except for Noel."

When asked if there was any truth that he smashed Noel's guitar during their big bust up (which caused the guitarist to quit the group in September), Liam said "I didn't smash it on him. I wish I had, man."

"He sort of... treated my guitar poorly, which was a present off my wife" Gallagher explained. "So I thought it was only fair to pay the compliment so I smashed one of his. It sounds ridiculous, like a pair of old women."

Liam then went on to suggest that Noel used the row as an excuse to quit, and that he'd wanted to leave Oasis for a while.

"To be quite honest, I think our kid wanted out. But you'll have to ask him when he comes in and does his little solo thing."

"We had an argument - but we've had bigger ones, about more important people. Basically, I think he wanted out, wanted something different, but he hadn't got the b******* to tell the band or the fans."

This also applies to Noel's backing vocals. Most of these overdubbed vocals were recorded live at Oasis' gig at the Yokohama Arena, Tokyo, on March 5, 2000. Only one line: "I'm sure you heard it all before, but you never really had a doubt", is from the actual Wembley gig, as Liam slightly messed up this line in the Tokyo performance.

The audio version of the album is also missing various bits of between-track banter.

A promo video of the Wembley version of "Gas Panic!" was distributed to music channels. The video featured visuals from throughout the gig and was slightly edited down to 6:57.

A "Gas Panic!" promo CD was issued in Brazil to promote Oasis' appearance at the Rock In Rio festival on January 14, 2001. The 2-track CD included the album version and an edited version of the Wembley track, which was edited down to 4:28.

The live album came about after the chaotic Wembley gig of July 22, 2000. This concert was being broadcast live to dozens of countries across the world but was hampered by an extremely drunk Liam Gallagher, whose out-of-tune singing and general ranting made it into an unappealing showcase of Oasis' live capabilities in the eyes of Sony BMG, who were worried about a large number of bootleg recordings being distributed.

Each of the six different formats (plus the 2001 highlights CD) had a different colour for its own cover art.

Serge Pizzorno Believes Rock And Roll Is Dying Out

Kasabian rocker Serge Pizzorno believes rock and roll is dying out and his band and the Arctic Monkeys are the only real rock bands left in the country.

The Kasabian rocker bemoaned the state of the British music industry, insisting his group and the Arctic Monkeys are the only "proper" rock bands left after the split of Oasis earlier this year.

He said: "We never actually said we were the biggest band in the UK but what we did say is that now, with Oasis splitting up, there aren't many proper rock n roll bands left. Can you name one?

"There are only us and the Arctic Monkeys. All the rest of them have released s**t albums or didn't care enough in the first place."

The 'Fire' hitmakers are currently on their biggest UK tour to date but Serge insists they aren't intimidated by the size of the crowds.

He added: "I'm not scared at all about playing arenas but it's a difficult thing - you've got to be careful. They're big buildings so you've got to put on a show but also keep the vibe going.

"I think it gives us more of a chance to do everything bigger - make it a real psychedelic trip. It will be a beautiful show."

Ricky Hatton Admits He Chinned Liam Gallagher

At the weekend Hatton - who's said to be worth £40million - attended the launch of his mate Liam Gallagher's new clothing line in London. But he admits he chinned the Oasis frontman for ripping off his own fashion range.

Ricky laughs: "I couldn't believe how similar Liam's stuff was to mine. It's all typical Mancunian clothes with floppy hats and the likes. Liam calls me his fashion rival - but he's not in my class."
