Noel Gallagher Criticises BBC Radio 1 For Ignoring Temples And Jagwar Ma

"There's great records coming out this year you're not going to hear on the radio," says former Oasis man.

Noel Gallagher has criticised BBC Radio 1 for not playlisting bands such as Temples and Jagwa Ma.

The comments follow on from Radio 1 music bosses describing Gallagher's music as "more at home on Radio 2" during a recent interview. Both head of music at Radio 1, George Ergatoudis, and Nigel Harding, the station's music policy director, admitted that the former Oasis member was no longer a part of their plans while making similar comments about Green Day and Robbie Williams.

Speaking to GQ, Gallagher added to his recent criticism of pop music and described Radio 1 as his idea of hell.

He said: "I don't understand it. It's when radio stations start focus groups. They literally go outside their building and ask people walking by, 'If I played you this song, what would you think?' and all that. Don't ask the man on the street! He's a cunt! That's why he's the man on the street, not the man in the expensive restaurant eating fucking mini sausages at four in the afternoon!"

Moving on to the albums and bands he feels are being unfairly overlooked, Gallagher continued: "There's great records coming out this year you're not going to hear on the radio. Temples (pictured right). Jagwar Ma. Great stuff, but it's on a lower level. It's not on the battleground. You have to be in that world to hear it."

Robbie Williams recently said he is "gutted" that he is deemed too old for the Radio 1 playlist. Quizzed about the snub by BBC Radio 4, Williams conceded that it hurts him when the station don't promote his material.

Radio 1 Music Boss Says 'Noel Gallagher's Music Is More At Home On Radio 2'

Playlist bosses George Ergatoudis and Nigel Harding discuss Green Day, Robbie Williams and Muse.

BBC Radio 1music bosses have described Noel Gallagher's music as "more at home on Radio 2" while admitting that Green Day's recent output has not been good enough to get played by the station.

Both head of music at Radio 1, George Ergatoudis, and Nigel Harding, the station's music policy director, have answered a number of questions from music industry figures in the new issue of Music Week. Among those quizzing the pair is Kevin McCabe, a music promotions specialist, who asked what the concise criteria is regarding an artist's age and how that affects their chances of being playlisted on Radio 1.

Responding to the confusion around Robbie Williams' 2012 single 'Candy' not making the playlist but his 'Goin' Crazy' collaboration with Dizzee Rascal being played heavily, Nigel Harding says: "This is all about the age of the artist's primary audience. In Robbie's case we believe that his main fan base is comfortably over the age of 30, whereas Dizzee's is clearly much lower." Moving on to Noel Gallagher, Harding adds: "I think Noel's music feels more at home on Radio 2, and the last Green Day project simply wasn't good enough."

Muse also came into consideration with Harding stating: "Muse are approaching a crossroads - their last single was the first one not playlisted by Radio 1 in a decade. The door remains open to them but we'll have to think carefully about their next album."

Previously,Robbie Williams called Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw a "bastard" during a live appearance following the stations refusal to playlist his song 'Candy', saying that the former Take That singer was too old for them to champion.

Liam Gallagher Mocks Robbie Williams’ Tips

Beady Eye star won’t let feud with rival end gracefully.

Liam Gallagher isn’t letting his feud with Robbie Williams come to an end gracefully.

The pair have been at each other’s throats in recent weeks after the former Oasis frontman called Robbie a “f***ing fat f***ing idiot”.

Robbie then criticised Beady Eye’s music – which really got Liam’s goat.

Liam snarled back: “We didn’t make a record to satisfy some requirements, this was our project. Robbie Williams said the record’s good but the songs have no chorus. I’d rather shoot myself in the balls than follow his advice.

“I do not listen to other music, so I don’t get my inspiration from anybody else, but maybe I should buy an iPod.”

Liam is also unhappy about the fact that his band had to change the cover of their new album, BE.

It featured a semi-naked picture of photographer Harry Peccinotti's wife lying on her back – and supermarkets said they’d refuse to stock it unless it was changed.

Liam said: “Everyone has nipples, they could have put tape on it if they had to.”

He’s also not been best pleased by some of the reviews it’s had.

He added: “Ultimately the only thing I care about is how people react to the live shows.”

Good mantra to live by.

Liam Gallagher Reveals He Doesn't Have Any Of His Brothers Phone Numbers

Liam Gallagher does not even have his brother Noel’s phone number, the Beady Eye singer has revealed.

The feud between the former Oasis bandmates has raged unabated since Noel walked out of the group in 2009 after claiming he “could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.

In an interview with Radio 5 Live’s Phil Williams, Liam was asked why he did not simply call his brother to talk things through.

“I haven't got his number,” he replied, adding that he doesn’t have a number for his older brother Paul, despite the fact they are still speaking.

“I haven’t got me other brother’s number that I talk to, either. I haven’t got many people’s numbers,” he said.

Liam went on to talk about his bitter relationship with Noel.

“I’ve got nothing to say to him. Not interested in the slightest right now,” he said.

“I’ve not banished him. He hasn’t seen my kids, I haven't seen his kids, and that happens when two people who are stupid talk s**** about each other.

“It's not like Noel’s knocking at my door with a box of chocolates and a bunch of flowers going ‘Speak to me’ and I’m going ‘No’. We’re just not getting on at the moment.”

In a recent interview with the Independent on Sunday, Liam claimed that Noel had been planning Oasis’s split “for years”.

Other promotional engagements for Beady Eye’s new album BE have seen Liam hurl insults at rapper Kanye West and old enemy Robbie Williams.

But Williams hit back this week, saying: “The interviews are better than the records at the minute. I really enjoy the interviews. Liam is like an episode of Star Stories.”

Robbie Williams Slams Beady Eye's New Album 'BE'

Singer slams Beady Eye album BE after ex-Oasis frontman's foul-mouthed rant.

Robbie Williams has had a pop back at Liam Gallagher after the ex-Oasis frontman reignited their bitter feud.

Liam called him a “f***ing fat f***ing idiot” in jealousy over Robbie playing four nights at Man City’s Etihad Stadium this week.

But the Take That star has retaliated by saying he wished Beady Eye’s music was as good as Liam’s chat.

Robbie said: “The interviews are better than the records at the minute. I really enjoy the interviews. Liam is like an episode of Star Stories.” He then laid into some of the songs on new Beady Eye album BE, saying: “The production is really good. There are a couple of tunes that would have been f***ing amazing if they had a chorus.

“Flick Of The Finger, nearly a great tune. Start Anew, if that had a chorus, but there is no chorus.”

It’s not just Liam who’s battled with Robbie, his brother and former Oasis bandmate NOEL has too.

His most famous dig was calling Rob “the fat dancer from Take That”.

But that’s water under the bridge.

Robbie’s full of praise for Noel these days — he thinks Beady Eye would succeed if he was on board. He added: “They are missing The General. I’ve heard Second Bite Of The Apple, I don’t know why nobody said anything.

“When you listen to them (songs on the album) you think, ‘Please put a chorus in — it will be brilliant.’ They are not going to have a character brave enough to tell Liam that.”

At the Brit Awards back in 2000 Robbie offered to fight Liam on live TV for a charity purse of £100,000.

Noel should step in to try to make that a reality.

After this year’s belting run of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs, Noel has experience in curating events.

Robbie and Liam going toe-to-toe with a fortune given to charity?
Silly idea.

Beady Eye Play Brilliant Gig At London's Camden Centre

Having just reignited his famous feud with Robbie Williams on the first night of Beady Eye's short UK tour, Liam Gallagher is still very much the swaggering, sharp-tongued frontman we know and love.

Last night (20th June), in the same week as Robbie's four massive shows at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, an understandably envious Mr Gallagher and his band were again playing a much smaller venue.

But don't feel blue Liam – bigger doesn't always mean better.

Feeling: London's Camden Centre is the hottest town hall in the country tonight, for more reason than one. It's absolutely sweltering and there wasn't a dry sideburn in sight.

There are Liam lookalikes everywhere and the rowdy atmosphere is reminiscent of the Oasis glory days everyone in the room (including the main man) really miss.

Look: It's a simple setup, but if you were hoping for lasers and smoke cannons you're really at the wrong show.

LG is rocking his Pretty Green clobber and somehow keeps his parka jacket zipped up right to the top. So cool he defies heat.

Liam Gallagher Turns The Air Blue

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has reignited his feud with Robbie Williams, having a pop at the Take That singer for performing at the home of Manchester City.

Gallagher's new band Beady Eye played at the 1,500 capacity Ritz in Manchester last night, the same night as Williams played the second of four shows at the Premier League side's 60,000-seat Etihad stadium.

The 40-year-old (inset) laid into Williams (39) calling him a "clown".

He also criticised the music-buying public, saying Beady Eye would not be playing big gigs until people "pull your f***ing finger out and buy the f***ing records".

Asked why Beady Eye were playing the Ritz while Williams was playing to tens of thousands, Gallagher told BBC 5Live they were a "proper live band" but that "the bulls*** is winning".

"Everyone thinks we're going to announce big f***ing stadiums. (The Ritz) That's the level we're at and we'll stay at that until you pull your f***ing finger out and buy the f***ing records."

He added that people who thought Beady Eye should be playing stadiums just because of his Oasis success were "living in the past".

But in a reference to Williams, he added: "And we should be playing the Etihad three nights, not some f***ing fat f***ing idiot."

He continued: "It could be any f***ing clown. I think it's a shame that he's doing three nights (sic) and a band like us are doing one night in the Ritz. Poor, mate. It's not about him, it's people in general. But it's about f***ing him, just in case you think I'm scared or something."

Noel Gallagher On The Brit's And Electronic Cigarettes

Noel Gallagher has attempted to start another Brit war after lashing out at the ‘nonsense’ members of Muse for smoking electric cigarettes.

In the same breath, the outspoken singer followed in Robbie Williams’s footsteps by savaging the recent Brit Awards over the absence of ‘dirt-kickers’ at the music show.

‘There are no characters left in the music business,’ the 45-year-old Don’t Look Back In Anger singer moaned.

‘When we first started going there was a healthy percentage of people, and we were all dirt-kickers from council estates, and we all couldn’t believe our luck that we were at The Brits.’

Starting up on the Starlight rockers, the Mancunian whined: ‘You go in now and everybody is a careerist. It’s very corporate, and you know what I’ve actually seen people doing at the Brits? Eating.

‘I saw the drummer from Muse smoking an electronic cigarette. A cigarette with a battery in. I had to say to him: ‘Really? Really? Is that where you are at? Do me a favour mate, either have a proper one outside, or don’t have one,’ he told Time Out Dubai.

Noel boasted he was more than happy to say it to Dominic Howard’s face.

‘It lit up green when he had a drag of it. Nonsense. He said that immortal line – “Oh you know how it is mate”. And I said ‘I’m sorry mate, I actually don’t.’

Gallagher, who performed at Russell Brand’s Give It Up For Comic Relief, hasn’t been the only star to trash the awards show in recent weeks.

The events record award winner, Robbie Williams, dubbed them ‘f***ing boring’ in a recent song.

Robbie Williams Sings About Challenging Liam Gallagher To A Fight

Robbie Williams has shown off the first fruits of his return to working with Guy Chambers with an expletive-fuelled track in which he branded the Brit Awards "f*cking boring".

The singer has teamed up with Chambers, his collaborator from the early days of his solo career, to work on a batch of new material.

And Williams has now posted a track written and recorded over the weekend on his website, which he claimed was called The Brits 2013.

It begins with a spoken comment about attending last week's Brit Awards and a repeated sample of him saying "blah-de-blah".

In the track he talks about some of the wilder antics at the event when he was younger - taking drugs, challenging Liam Gallagher to a fight and having sex with "a few female stars or two".

Liam Gallagher's A Rock Rock And Roll Stargazer

If you thought Robbie Williams’ obsession with UFOs was out of this world, you’ll love this.

Liam Gallagher has been chasing his own Champagne Supernova in the sky.

Over the weekend the ex-Oasis rocker, 40, journeyed from his home in northwest London’s Hampstead to a galaxy far, far, away – The Planetarium in Greenwich, south-east London – to experience the wonders of the sky at night with the rest of his Beady Eye bandmates.

We’re told the rockers saw images from spacecraft and telescopes, and learnt how to land on Mars at the Royal Observatory.

A fellow star-gazing enthusiast told us: “It’s not the place you’d expect to see a rock star like Liam. Perhaps he was getting inspiration for his music. Everyone was shocked when Liam swaggered through, looking mesmerised as he peered through the telescopes. He even got to see the birth of a star.”

We’re told Liam then headed to local pub The Princess Of Wales, just round the corner in Blackheath.

While sinking a few beers, Liam got busy telling all the local boozers exactly how much he loved the Planetarium and its light shows.

After about half an hour he was swamped with fans hoping to meet him and get photos.

Ever the charmer, he planted kisses on the ladies’ hands and said: “It’s nice that some people still remember us.”

Robbie, 39, claims to have seen three UFOs in his life and reckons he will study extra-terrestrial lifeforms properly when he retires  from pop.

Sarah Harding Was The Liam Gallagher Of Girls Aloud

Sarah Harding was once known as the wild one of Girls Aloud – but last night she declared: “I’m not that girl any more.”

After battling her demons, the blonde has spent the past year rebuilding her life.

In her first in-depth interview since she checked in to rehab, Sarah tells how she’s in a new relationship with music producer DJMRK1, and says she is at her happiest simply strolling around her country pad in Buckinghamshire.

She also revealed the unlikely inspiration behind her transformation from caner to country girl — her ex-hellraising heroes Robbie Williams and Liam Gallagher.

Sarah, 31, said: “I’ve been through the s******t couple of years of my life but I want people to know me for the girl I am today.

“I’m in the happiest place ever in my life, and the past is in the past.”

Sarah’s partying got out of hand because she tried to live up to her rock ’n’ roll image as “the Liam Gallagher of Girls Aloud”.

But now 40-year-old Liam has settled into domestic bliss, Sarah is convinced that she too can leave her past behind.

She said: “I grew up absolutely obsessed with Oasis and Blur and all the bad boys.
“I used to think I was like Liam and in the end, it kind of became who I was.

“At one point, people thought I was the Liam Gallagher of the band because I’m more of a rock chick and I went out more than my friends. But I’ve grown up now.”

Sarah also identifies with the way Robbie Williams, 38, has gone from wildman to happily married dad.

She said: “I can really, really relate to Robbie — we’re very similar characters.

“Now he’s all settled and married with a baby, I’m just really happy for him. He’s a really nice guy.”

Despite her admiration for the way Liam and Robbie have settled down, Sarah says she wants to focus on her career before considering having a child.

She added: “I don’t know about kids just yet — although I am at that age. I’ve just got so many more boxes I want to tick before that.”

A big part of Sarah’s comeback is the Girls Aloud ten-year reunion tour — which kicks off on February 21.

When she’s not rehearsing, Sarah is busy grafting on solo material and adding more acting roles to her CV.

It’s official: Noel Gallagher, Robbie Williams and Plan B are amongst the coolest men in Britain!

Readers of ZOO Magazine voted in their thousands in the publication’s annual ‘Britain’s Coolest Man’ poll with the results being unveiled today.

Former Oasis guitarist/songwriter is the highest ranked music star at number 11 ahead of Robbie Williams in 16th spot. Rapper turned soul singer and movie star Plan B sneaked in at number 20.

However, they were all trumped by boxer Carl Froch who stormed in at number one ahead of Prince Harry and Hollywood actor Tom Hardy.

35-year-old Froch commented: “It’s an honour and a privilege! I’m surprised Jason Statham didn’t win, though.

“I can see why Prince Harry is runner-up. He got rumbled for stripping off and having a laugh in Vegas recently, but who cares? He’s a soldier, puts his time in and lads take to him.”

ZOO Editor Damien McSorley added: “Carl Froch is well worthy of the title, Britain's Coolest Man 2013, having elevated himself to become Britain's leading boxer.

“Carl is a people's champion; a home-grown, self-made success story, who remains down-to-earth, outspoken and close to his Nottingham roots.”

Robbie Williams On Why He Fell Out With Oasis

Robbie Williams says he fell out with Oasis in the Nineties because he wasn’t “mod” enough.

He said Liam and Noel Gallagher just suddenly stopped knocking about with him.

Liam befriended Robbie after he left Take That but it was shortlived.

Matters came to head when Robbie stormed the stage at Glastonbury during the band’s set. Noel quickly had him removed.

Robbie said: “Lad culture was a massive, massive thing. I love Oasis. I was a big fan of their music, vibe and energy.

“I happened to know them and knock about with them for a little while. I don’t think I was their cup of tea.

"At the time I think the exact words were ‘I’m not mod’, so I was sort of mates with them for a bit, then I didn’t gel with them, so we stopped hanging out, simple as that.

“Liam’s voice was the voice of a generation and Noel seemed to be writing the songs of a generation. They were our Beatles for around 18 months.

“It was very, very exciting, high-octane stuff with various substances being taken left, right and centre, models, late night rock ’n’ roll – all good fun!”

That’s all behind Robbie now, seeing as he’s a married man with a four-month-old nipper Teddy Rose.

Back in the day they would still be going as you read this...

The Justice Collective - 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' Is The Christmas Number One Single

Beady Eye's drummer Chris Sharrock is a member of the all-star line-up for the Hillsborough tribute single, ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ that has been today announced as the Christmas number one single in the UK.

Released under the name The Justice Collective, it features names such as Robbie Williams and Sir Paul McCartney. It is raising money for the families of 96 Liverpool fans who died in a crush at Hillsborough stadium in 1989. A cover of The Hollies' 1969 hit, it sold 269,000 copies, 45,000 more than X Factor winner James Arthur's single Impossible which dropped to number two.

Arthur, who had been ahead in the race earlier in the week according to the Official Charts Company, now has total sales of 749,000, making him the most successful X Factor winner since Alexandra Burke in 2008.

Sales had been 'absolutely huge' in Liverpool, HMV said Liverpool Walton Labour MP Steve Rotheram, who backed the Hillsborough campaign, said: "We have done in nine weeks what it normally takes nine months or more to achieve, working with a phenomenally dedicated team all of whom have worked for free."

Margaret Aspinall, chair of the Hillsborough Families Support Group, said it was "brilliant news". She added: "The families will be delighted. We haven't had very good Christmases for a long time so this is an extra gift. "It's obvious that it's got a lot of support and they've got the message across to everybody. It's truly amazing."

Music giant HMV said demand for the record had been "absolutely huge" in Liverpool. Its Liverpool branch initially ordered 12,000 copies of the CD but had to restock in the middle of the week after selling out.

Many customers bought multiple copies, including one man in his 20s, who bought 96 copies - one for each of the supporters who died in the tragedy. "We haven't seen anything like that since Band Aid," said HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo.
