Umbro 'Show Your City' - Noel Gallagher And Vincent Kompany Show Off New Kits

Back in May, Umbro and Manchester City asked fans of the club to come up with ideas on how they would reveal the club's new shirts.

We wanted the interesting, the unusual, the outlandish -- and we got them! Picking our favourites from all the ideas entered, we then sent a film crew to make those ideas a reality. Following City fan Kevin Cummins getting his wish to picture Noel Gallagher and Vincent Kompany together, this video shows some of the other great ideas that Umbro and City have helped to bring to life.

Climbing mountains, recreating classic MCFC moments and shooting the new Manchester City home shirt into space via a balloon -- these are certainly some of the more unusual ways in which a football shirt has been unveiled!

Noel Gallagher's Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Sixty Nine

From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.

Comrades . . . this will be a long one.

So, the last time we spoke was when? 2 weeks ago? Must have been? Was it? Hang on . . . let me check . . . that's right . . . it was the night before the festival in Belgium. OK . . . right I'll get my thinking cap on and give you the lo-down (as best I can anyway!).

So . . . I remember the festival being quite a big one. Massive crowd. Big guns headlining. Think it was them Red Hot Chilli Peppers on my night (yes it was!). The show itself was OK. Not bad. It certainly broke the run of amazing shows that's for sure. The best thing about it was I was introduced onstage by Vincent Kompany, Manchester City's captain. He's from Brussels see? And me and him were going to do the launch of the new Manchester City kits for next season. Both of these occurrences were a true honour. Vinnie's a top boy. Might actually be the coolest lad on the planet. We hung out after the show and watched the Euro Championship final. Happy days!!

The next day I had to be up early to do the football kit thing. Hadn't actually gone to bed 'till 4am so I wasn't feeling (or looking!) the best. Vinnie on the other hand had managed an early night and turned up looking like the super-cool, well oiled athlete he is. I on the other hand stunk of cig's and alcohol looking every bit like the 45yr old father of 3 that I am. Not good. Not good at all. In all my time in this game that might have been the single most difficult thing I've ever had to do.

At one point I think I was sweating pure alcohol. Imagine doing that while one of your heroes looks down on you and asks if you're alright, while a photographer snaps away asking you if "you could just get a bit closer?" Did it though and the kit looks the bollocks.

So, after that I remember we flew to Montreux in Switzerland for a show at the "Montreux Jazz Festival"!! That's right, you heard . . . "the Montreux JAZZ Festival". Not sure what I was doing there but a gig's a gig and what a gig!! A right good laugh and all. And I got presented (on stage which was a bit weird) with a very expensive watch by the founder of the festival Mr. Claude Nobs (pronounced CLOUD NEBZ). Worth €3000!! Or so he informed the audience anyway. Thanks very much Mr.Nobs . . . just what I've always wanted . . . my very own jazz watch!!

After that we drove overnight to Milan. I love Milan and Italy in general. Weather was mad hot. Must've been nearly 100 onstage!! Not as hot as Coachella but proper sizzling all the same. Show was alright. Nothing more, nothing less. I remember being taken out for dinner after to some swanky footballery type gaff. Very nice it was too . . . Beckham used to go there I'm told.

So . . . after that would have been T In the Park? Yes, I think so!! Horrific weather. Dark black clouds. Torrential rain, rain, rain. Mud every-fucking-where. Horrible . . . and that was just BACKSTAGE!!! Lord only knows what it was like out front? Still (and this is truly amazing) it never spoiled the atmosphere. The crowd up there are something else. Unbelievable behaviour. Well done!

We had a great show bar a couple of hic-ups here and there but we smashed it!! We were on before the Stone Roses. It was great to see them AND to see them enjoying themselves. A great night all round.

After that we flew to Birmingham to do a little acoustic gig for that radio station Kerrang!! That's right, you heard. A heavy metal radio station. Don't ask . . . I didn't. It was good though.

So . . . after that we flew here to the south of France. Fucking plane was full of young people (off on their holidays one would imagine). Giggling girls and boys with sideways haircuts and girls jeans on . . . that's what it looked like to me anyway.

I think that's about it. Got a festival tonight. A big one . . . it must be big 'cause the mighty Franz Ferdinand are headlining!! What was that?? Of course they're still going!!!!

ONWARDS.

GD.

Noel Gallagher Surprises Diners At Birmingham Balti House

Diners at a Birmingham balti house were given a surprise taste of celebrity stardom when Oasis and High Flying Birds star Noel Gallagher popped in for a curry.

The guitarist and song-writer was in Birmingham on Sunday night after performing at the T in the Park Festival in Scotland on Saturday.

His party of eight called in to the Kababish Restaurant in Moseley - which has previously hosted Muhammad Ali - at around 8.30pm.

Although the restaurant was quiet at the time, owner Saj Shafique said it wasn't long until news of Gallagher's appearance filtered through to the Patrick Kavanagh pub next door.

Mr Shafique, who had his picture taken with the rock star, said: "Noel's got this reputation of being a bit grumpy but he wasn't like that at all.

"A few of the guests in the restaurant and some of the people from the pub next door were mingling about to try and get a photo with him.

"He was just one of the lads and spent a few minutes posing with people for the small crowd."

Gallagher, whose Oasis Jug of Ale 1994 gig features in the Birmingham Mail's top ten best ever Birmingham gigs - ordered a Balti Mix Jalfrezi.

His party stayed at the restaurant until about 11pm.

Farooq Mohammed, one of the partner's who own the restaurant, added: "Noel called ahead to let us know he was coming so we could make some arrangements for him.

"He was a really nice guy and had a chat with some of the staff when he went out for a cigarette.

"Apparently Kerrang Radio recommended that he tried us and we were obviously delighted to host him."

Gallagher's appearance in Moseley comes just two week's after Hollywood star Brad Pitt was spotted a few miles down the road in Hall Green.

Folks Fly High With Noel Gallagher

Guitar band Folks have hailed Noel Gallagher as a "great man".

The six-piece from Manchester supported the ex-Oasis star on his European tour.

"We did his whole European tour, back in March. And he asked us again to play in Edinburgh," guitarist and songwriter Michael Beasley said.

"Noel's been around a long time now, but he still goes out to check out bands he thinks he might like, and if he does like you, he might well offer you a gig.

"There are so many people in the industry in his position, but not many are as helpful or generous. He's a great man."

The band recorded their album in just 17 days in Los Angeles.

We couldn't afford the place we had used before, Toe Rag Studios in London, so we ended up going to LA," Michael said.

"We had been working with a producer called Luther Russell, who is like LA musical royalty. He was in a band with Bob Dylan's son Jakob, grew up with Clint Eastwood's kids, and Stephen Stills's kids.

"He's a real Beatles enthusiast like we are, and loves four-track tape recorders too. His mate had a studio we could use, so yeah, it was cheaper to go to Beverly Hills and make a record than it was to go to London."

:: The band are on tour in the UK throughout July and August, with their biggest show to date at Edinburgh Castle on July 17, supporting Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. For more information, visit www.wearefolks.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Bird's At T In The Park

Following on from his brother Liam, who supported The Stone Roses at Heaton Park last weekend with Beady Eye, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds warmed the crowd up for tonight's legendary headliners The Stone Roses.

Gallagher packed his set with crowd-pleasing favourites from his debut solo album as well as classic Oasis tracks, such as 'Talk Tonight', 'Whatever', 'Half The World Away' and 'Little By Little'.

'AKA…What A Life' was dedicated to Manchester City supporters, with Noel goading the team's rivals by saying manager Sir Alex Ferguson should "f*ck off".

But, of course, one of the biggest sing-a-longs this weekend came during his epic set-closer 'Don't Look Back In Anger', which saw the whole crowd swaying in unison.

Noel Gallagher Without Oasis Is High Flying At T

Review: No stranger to a festival, but promoted to frontman status, Noel Gallagher took on Balado with his High Flying Birds for support.

Noel Gallagher had the crowds in their numbers, though they were surprisingly static for Saturday evening T.

Perhaps dragging their limbs through the mud all day had led to full body fatigue, or there was the chance that all audience participation had been reserved for The Stone Roses and their grand return to Scotland, but this may have been positively one of the most polite Scottish crowds ever served to a Gallagher brother. Do you see what happens when Liam's not around?

After years providing much of the talent from his bolder brother's shadow, the turn of Noel to take to the centre stage seems like one he would had avoided at all costs if he could have. With his head often bowed, and focusing on his guitar playing, the swagger's been dropped and there's little acknowledgement of the crowd. Not that it matters really, as this allows a far firmer focus on the music, rather than wondering which person in popular music is heading for a slating next. Can you imagine if Twitter had been around in the heyday of Oasis, I'm sure Liam would have recruited a few more enemies for himself.

A far more melodious venture than his previous success story, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds do still follow a similar vein. The obvious rhyming words are in there, though it's an altogether more laid-back and grown-up venture, though still utilises that crowd grabbing rollick. Playing the first half of the set from their self-titled debut, with much of the crowd word familiar, it's the delve into Oasis territory, that makes mud pies into muddy thighs.

Talk Tonight stirs the crowd, before that old familiar theme tune from The Royle Family- it looks like there are a few of them and their extended family at T- Half the World Away. Looking relaxed and happy, leaving Oasis behind looks like it's put the fun back into performing for Noel.

Back to the present, and (Standed On) The Wrong Beach gets a similar reception to his Oasis revisits, an obvious fan favourite, before a dedication to, "Anyone that used to go to Barrowlands." With those rowdy adventures well documented, Whatever brought a bit of that atmosphere to Balado, for the first full on sing along of the set. Even backed by a crowd of many thousands, Noel's own version was a lighter and more tuneful rendition, a whole happier song without Liam's distinctive drawl across the vocal.

Serving up a set list of festival pleasers, 90s anthems, Little By Little accelerated the set to the finishing line of Don't Look Back In Anger- perhaps some advice for many unhappy customers who left T early as a result of yesterday's difficult conditions.

Leaving the crowd awash in nostalgia, rather than promoting his newer material, Noel Gallagher delivers what Balado needs, and although they were far from wild, there was a certain warmth between them and Mr G back in his second home... Or it could just have been the mutual excitement for headliners The Stone Roses.
