Liam Gallagher Confronts Coin Throwing Fan

Liam Gallagher was involved in a fracas with an audience member throughout Oasis' gig at London's Roundhouse last night (July 21), after an object was apparently thrown.

The singer took offence almost immediately as they took the stage at the iTunes Live festival, as it appeared something was thrown at him.

Though not clear whether he was struck or not, Liam later made reference to both a coin and drink being aimed at him.

The incident put the singer in a angry mood for most of the gig, and he appeared to single out the fan who allegedly threw the object, labelling him a "fucking uni boy" and "fat boy" during the show.

Before opening song 'Rock 'N' Roll Star', Gallagher said: "Is that some fucking shitbag who's throwing fucking lager, can't handle a soft arse from fucking Camden town? Well get on this, fucking student…"

Later on in the band's set, he offered to meet face-to-face with the audience member, saying: "Here you are, student, if you want me to [go] offstage, don't be throwing fucking pound coins. Why don't you try and come up here and fucking make me come off? Alright dickhead."

Gallagher also changed the lyrics of several Oasis songs to reference the incident.

'Lyla' included the line "For you to come and fuck me out my mind", while a line 'Cigarettes And Alcohol' was changed to "Is it worth the aggravation to find yourself a knob when there's nothing worth working for?", while during 'My Big Mouth' Liam did not bother to sing the second verse or chorus as he moodily stalked the stage.

Before playing the latter song, Gallagher spoke about the fact the gig was free for iTunes Live competition winners, saying "Hope it's fucking moody for ya. You pay peanuts, you get monkeys on crack."

As is usual during Oasis gigs, the singer left the stage as to allow his brother Noel Gallagher to front several songs, including 'Half The World Away', before which the guitarist attempted to calm is brother down, declaring: "We'd like to do a slow number for you so we could all just calm down. Everybody just take a deep breath, pretend it's not happening."

Upon returning to his microphone, Liam Gallagher gestured to the crowd, mouthing the words "I'm number one" several times.

'Morning Glory' saw the singer move his attentions to Camden residents, asking "Is there anybody actually born and bred in Camden town here tonight? Prove it. Show us how fucking tight your jeans are. And your pointy shoes are. I'm fucking serious."

However, Gallagher's mood did improve towards the end of Oasis' 19-song set, with him joking that the band were about to play a new song before referencing the technical problems that have affected their recent gigs at London's Wembley Stadium, Benicassim festival and Manchester's Heaton Park.

"We're gonna do a new song now. It's called 'Power Failure' and it's amazing," he quipped as the band launched into their massive 1995 hit 'Wonderwall'.

Earlier in the evening, support band The Enemy had geed up the Roundhouse crowd, playing a slot that saw them showcase tracks from their two albums. Frontman Tom Clarke, wearing his traditional leather jacket, dedicated 'Be Somebody' to the audience, saying "Right, this next song is about you."

The band's early tracks 'Away From Here' and 'Had Enough' both drew impressive responses from the crowd, while a version of 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' had many singing along at the frontman's request. Recent single 'No Time For Tears' saw Clarke thrash his guitar in a similar fashion to The Who's Pete Townshend's famed 'windmill' technique.

Before playing final song 'You're Not Alone', the singer paid tribute to Oasis, as well as the Camden audience. "I wanna thank Oasis for having us, and I wanna thank you for being a top audience," he said. "This is our last song, so if you know the words then sing along."

Oasis Tickets: Council's View

East Riding of Yorkshire Council agreed to answer the following questions posed by the Free Press about the sale of tickets for the Oasis concert at Bridlington Spa ...
How many tickets were on sale at the Spa? Is this more or less than for other rock gigs recently?
600 tickets were available from the box office. The number of tickets given to the Spa for events varies but this was towards the lower end of the scale due to national demand for the event.

How many customers were sold tickets/transactions were made at the box office before they sold out at 11am?

Tickets sold out at around 11.30am. All 600 tickets were sold. The number of individuals that purchased tickets will be held on our booking system and available to auditors but cannot be easily obtained.

There are lots of reports of queue jumping, with many people saying Spa staff turned a blind eye to it. Are you satisfied the security was adequate?

Spa staff dealt with a number of people who tried to queue jump, some of whom were suspected of already having purchased tickets.

No "blind eye" was turned. Security will be reviewed if face to face sales are made in future, as is normally the case after any major event.

Why were people queuing at 6am, for example, not given a ticket or wristband which could have proved they were there first and identified the queue-jumpers?

The Spa has previously hosted numerous sell out concerts and this has never been necessary in the past.

For future events – if we sell tickets face to face – we will look at this.

Why were people allowed to buy four tickets? Doesn't this encourage people to buy more than they need and sell them oneBay? Wouldn't a limit of two per person have been fairer?

The numbers of tickets offered per person was the same as available through other outlets and standard for this type of event. Whatever number was selected it would not have pleased everyone. We have received complaints that we didn't sell with a limit of six per person.

Several people who queued said they saw "council big-wigs", "council officials" or "big names of the town" going into the Spa for tickets and bypassing the queue. Other people have told the Free Press that East Riding of Yorkshire Council staff secured their tickets at least 24 hours before they went on sale to the public. How does the council react?

Staff were not allowed to purchase tickets in advance and no council staff bypassed the queue.

It was alleged afterwards that one well-known individual (who does NOT work for the council) paid his employees to stand in the queue to buy tickets in their own name and pass these on to their employer.

Oasis At The Roundhouse (Tom's Story)

Friends of the site Tom & Chris (Pictured) managed to blag their way into the iTunes Festival on Tuesday, at The Roundhose in London.

This is Tom's story, and short review of the gig.

I got to the Roundhouse much later then Chris, he was in line for six hours, myself a paltry 3.

We were in this place near the front doors about 4th or 5th in the queue and for no reason this security guy moved the barrier and everyone ran and we ended up being about 30 in the queue FOR FUCK SAKE.

Anyways, time passes on, we did a bit of celebrity spotting and it did not take us long to spot one Simon Ambrose winner Of the Apprentice was walking around near us chatting to people.

Touts were selling tickets for £120!!!!!

We spotted Steve from Big Brother whom Chris and I have met a couple of times (record company playback, the secret gig etc) spotted him a few times over the course of the hours we were there.

It got to around 8:30PM squeaky bum time, I was ready to leave the queue and go home, I had been in London since 10 and had eaten way too much KFC. We saw Steve again and asked him if there was any chance of any spares. He said there was little chance, told him about the barrier fiasco he said he'd do what he could.

It gets to 9pm. we're thinking...shit. Then a security guy come over with wrist bands and people are shoving and pushing trying to get in. Me and Chris just not doing any of that carry on, I get a tap on my shoulder in the middle of the carnage and it's Steve! He drags us out the queue and puts us through the "Big Brother Guests" doors and we skip the queue to get in.

Had an amazing night. Thanks to Steve!

Tom on the gig

It wasn't your typical Oasis crowd, there seemed to be a lot of people there who weren't interested at one point in between songs someone close to us shouted "ITS NOT YOUR FAULT YOUR BROTHERS A CUNT NOEL!" Charming??

All the cameras came out for Wonderwall. People were talking to each other during "My Big Mouth" shows like last night are wasted on people who just come for Wonderwall..

The coins and beers being thrown towards the stage was pretty stupid, do not blame Liam at all for going ape shit. He could have walked off stage and refused to come back...he's done that before..but he soldiered on..and boy did he take out all his anger on his vocals. Many fans are calling the now his best vocals of the tour!

Great show that'll live in the memory for a long time. Listening back to the bootleg of it now it sounds bloody amazing such energy and tension (in a good way) in his voice. Favourite bit was when he was singing and holding his arms out by his side. He was Godlike.

Caught Live: Oasis

Liam Gallagher was at his snarling best as Oasis played the iTunes Festival.

He scowled throughout the show at London's Roundhouse and kicked off about students, the sound and people in "snooker cue shoes".

The angry singer snarled: "I hope you lot are feeling as f****** uncomfortable as I am."

We all were.

For whatever reason, he didn't want to be there.

But it made for an entertaining show and you could not take your eyes off him.

I saw Sienna Miller, Ant & Dec, Adrian Chiles and Phillip Glenisterall gripped.

Yesterday brother Noel posted on their website: "That gig was, erm, very odd. What'siz'name exploded with pretend rage. Strange cat. Saying that, it was a full moon'n'all. Didn't notice him getting any more hairy though."

Things started badly when someone threw a plastic pint of ale which hit Liam's pristine Parka - and it just got worse.

Liam poured water on cameras, abused the audience and ignored Noel.

Ever the gent, Noel looked embarrassed by Liam, even saying: "Well, well, someone's in a bad mood!"

At one point Liam smashed his tambourine into the mic and walked off stage.

But it was a solid set. Highlights included The Masterplan, Slide Away, Half The World Away and Champagne Supernova.

Oasis have a few gigs to go this summer, including the V Festival next month.

Yesterday they flew out to Japan and South Korea for a week.

I hope they last the distance.

Jay- Z Drops Oasis-Taunting “Jockin’ Jay-Z” From His New Album

Jay-Z has dropped two tracks that were originally destined for his new album Blueprint 3, the Oasis-taunting “Jockin’ Jay-Z” and Santigold-sampling “Brooklyn Go Hard,” won’t be making the album’s final track list.

Speaking recently to Radio 1's Zane Lowe about his much talked-about headline performance at the 2008 Glastonbury festival was all about breaking down barriers.

His performance caused a media storm after Noel Gallagher said it was "wrong" to have a hip hop headliner.

Jay-Z opened his set with a cover of the Oasis' Wonderwall and playing along with a guitar.

He told Zane: "I felt like breaking down the barriers. There's a few people that wanted to see the concert and everything in its traditional form but that's not the way of the world.

"It felt like once I got to the people, they were excited. I had to be good. I was so focused on that. Just to really perform and put it out there."

Speaking of his surprising stint on the guitar, he said: "I was actually backstage trying to get that little piece together 10 minutes before the show.

"I should've practiced. I wanted to at least act like the chords were right."

Jay-Z said that he's still a huge fan of Wonderwall.

"We always play it," he said. "I have a restaurant called the Spotted Pig. We have this small room, it's like a back room, about 100 people can fit in there and we play it all the time and we just go crazy."

Oasis Roundhouse Statement

Oasis are taking legal advice from top city law firm Carter Ruck after a story appeared today in a number of online publications, including The Guardian Online falsely claiming that Liam Gallagher "stormed out of" an Oasis gig at the Roundhouse in London last night.

A spokesperson commented, "The story that Liam left the gig is totally untrue. Liam put on one of the performances of his life last night, leaving the stage only for a few minutes during songs sung by his brother Noel as is always the case. The whole show was captured on film by ITV so fans will soon see the truth of this. It is very difficult to understand why supposedly respectable publications would publish such malicious and damaging claims."

Oasis recently voluntarily refunded over 20,000 ticket holders when their Heaton Park, Manchester concert was delayed by 40 minutes due to power problems, despite the band going on to play a full two hour set.

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Well that gig at The Roundhouse was..erm..very odd. What'siz'name exploded with pretend rage the minute he walked on. Strange cat. Probably on his man period. Saying that, it was a full moon'n'all. Didn't notice him getting any more hairy though. Mind you, those that were there seemed to enjoy it, so..y'know, onwards and sideways.

Didn't stick around after the gig. Just couldn't be arsed. Too many squares for my liking.

Just on the way to Heathrow. Off to Japan / South Korea for a week. My phone doesn't work out there so there'll be a break in transmission. Will spill any relevant beans when I get back.

In a bit.
