Babyshambles Put Next Album On Hold

Pete Doherty's band Babyshambles have put their next album on hold over fears the public is sick of hearing rock music.

The troubled British star and his group were set to release their third record later this year (09) - but have decided to wait until 2010 to see if guitar-based independent music makes a chart comeback, according to drummer Adam Ficek.

He says, "The 'Shambles won't release until late next year, when the scene is more fruitful.

"At the moment there are many guitar bands struggling. People have got bored because there's a generic sound.

"There was a lot of money going into indie music so more mediocre bands have managed to sustain a career out of it."

And the musician blames a lack of rock 'n' roll role models in the industry at the moment for teens turning their backs on the genre.

He adds, "The kids don't want to be like Arctic Monkeys because they're not characters like (Oasis frontman) Liam Gallagher and (Blur star) Damon Albarn.

"A band similar to The Stone Roses or Oasis will emerge in the next three of four years. Some young with something to say, as no bands have anything to say right now. We haven't had a working-class band for ages."

Oasis Stars 'No longer Speak To Each Other'

Relations between Oasis stars Liam and Noel Gallagher are now so bad they no longer speak, travel separately on tour and only see each other onstage, Liam claimed today.

Just days before Oasis headline the V Festival, the band's frontman said the pair last spoke during a row at an airport which left Noel in tears.

"He doesn't like me and I don't like him, that's it," Liam told NME.

"He hasn't told me what he thinks of anything this year. we've got nothing to say to each other at the moment."

Instead the Gallaghers have been exchanging insults via Twitter and blogs. This week Liam called his brother the "fool on the bill" after the guitarist was pictured on a night out, and accused him of looking like "he had got through to the next round of X Factor".

Noel recently complained that "What'siz'name" was "probably on his man period" during a gig at Camden's Roundhouse last month.

Liam said today that the pair now simply trade insults on the internet rather than face-to-face "to save the f****** tour imploding".

He said Noel wouldn't have the nerve to criticise him in person "because he's a f****** lightweight and he knows where he'd end up".

Liam continued: "We don't travel together, do we ... so I never really see him, the only time I see him is onstage and we're a little bit busy that time to be f****** scratching each other."

The brothers have been feuding for years but hostilities appear to have stepped up in recent years. In a recent interview Noel confessed that his two-year-old son Donovan has never even met his uncle.

Liam said the last conversation ended in a row. "I think it might have been about some f****** s*** support band he wanted to play with us and he didn't ask my permission. So we had a f****** ding-dong in the airport and I think he started crying then - that was it - doesn't travel with me anymore."

During the interview with NME, Liam referred to his brother as 'Parker' because of the songwriter's similarity to the chauffeur from 60s puppet TV series Thunderbirds.

And he said he was unsure about the future of the band after Noel had claimed that he would like a five-year hiatus.

"For the first time in my life I haven't got a f****** clue what's going on with Oasis, you know what I mean? It's pretty confusing but I'm not going to freak out about it."

Liam recently branched out into the fashion business, launching his own clothing label Pretty Green.

Oasis' Liam Gallagher: 'I'm Happy If Noel Wants To Do A Solo Album'

However, the singer says he'd rather do a new Oasis album in 'six months'

Oasis' Liam Gallagher has told NME.COM he would not stand in the way of his brother making a solo record.

The band's guitarist and main songwriter Noel Gallagher has previously suggested he would like to work on a solo record once Oasis finished touring current album 'Dig Out Your Soul', and the frontman said he won't object as long as it makes his sibling happy.

"Who knows, man, maybe he needs to go and do his solo record… fucking hell, I don't know, I really don't know," declared Liam, who has his own 'solo project' fashion label, Prettygreen.com. "If it [doing a solo album] makes him happy, yeah, if it makes him happy. It would sound very civilised I reckon… [that's] a fucking awful thing - but maybe it's a good thing for him."

However Liam, whose group will wrap up their 13-month world tour at the weekend by headlining V Festival (August 22-23), added that he would prefer to get cracking with another Oasis record.

"If it was up to me I'd have six months off and then get straight back in the studio and make records," he declared. "That's what I'm in Oasis for. I'm not here to fucking sit around for five years twiddling my thumbs."

The Five Most Overrated Britpop Bands

The Over/Under: Britpop

The Britpop phenomenon might have ended nearly 15 years ago, but it cast such a shadow over the U.K. music scene that its presence is still felt today.

Where would groups such as Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys or the Killers be without Blur, Pulp and Oasis? Often maligned as a scene obsessed with fame and fashion, the mid-’90s saw a revival of British creativity and provided a pop-friendly rebuttal to the dominant American grunge sound. By looking backward to the Kinks and Beatles, Britpop set the musical standards for years to come. With Blur back together and Jarvis Cocker on tour, it’s the perfect time to examine the most overrated and underrated bands of the Britpop era.

:: The Five Most Overrated Britpop Bands

1. Oasis

In the Britpop trifecta of Oasis, Blur and Pulp, Oasis was the most successful and the least interesting of the lot. While the band made some good pop songs and had a genuine lunatic in Liam Gallagher, Oasis was the very definition of overrated. From overhyped 1994 debut Definitely Maybe to the NME covers it still graces, Oasis received more praise than it merited. Oasis is like the Quentin Tarantino of the pop world; its first two efforts showed real talent, but the band has spent so long rehashing the same formula that it’s damaged the very reputation those initial works established. How many other groups have soldiered on despite producing nothing of interest since 1997? In a way, it’s impressive. But in another, more accurate way, it’s just sad.“Roll With It”:

2. Supergrass

Sure, Supergrass was nice and loud. But as much as critics liked to peg the band as “eclectic” and “ambitious,” and even though Supergrass took on everything from psychedelia to house music, somehow the songs tend to blend together. Because Supergrass was ostensibly more thoughtful than Oasis, the critics hyped the group to high heaven, and a massively overrated outfit was born.“Alright”:

3. Elastica

Elastica was a perfectly fine pop group, but with only one decent album under its belt, it’s difficult to see just what has made the band so celebrated. Was it Justine Frischmann’s badass persona? The group’s legacy as one of the few female-friendly crews in Britpop? Upon closer examination, that statement doesn’t really hold: What about Salad, Sleeper, Echobelly, Lush, the Cranberries and other bands with female members that found success during the Britpop era? Elastica’s reputation has grown over the years, while many of those equally interesting groups have been forgotten.“Car Song”:

4. The Verve

The Verve has one—count it, one—great song, and that is “Bittersweet Symphony.” Not only that, but “Bittersweet Symphony” was immeasurably improved by a Jay-Z remix. The most impressive aspect of the Verve is how Richard Ashcroft has successfully tricked the world into thinking of him as a deep, insightful writer, despite penning lyrics as inane as “Are you invited/To the party of life?/Now you’ve decided/Do you live ’til you die?” The answer to that question is, by the way, yes. Despite having more high-profile break-ups than Jennifer Aniston, the Verve has endured both commercially and critically. While 1995 sophomore album A Northern Soul had its moments, 1997’s Urban Hymns (the band’s biggest success) is one of the most bloated, boring and overpraised albums of the ’90s.“Bittersweet Symphony”:

5. Manic Street Preachers

The Manics were always in an awkward position; sneering at Britpop’s success but benefiting massively from the scene it helped create, making hit albums such as 1994’s The Holy Bible and 1996’s Everything Must Go. Guitarist Richey Edwards’ mysterious disappearance in 1995 (his family declared him dead in November 2008) made him a martyr for the group, and while his loss is still felt by family, friends and fans, it doesn’t mean that we have to take self-indulgent trash like “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next” as “art.” If the Manics had embraced their pop sensibilities, below all the condescending trappings (see “Faster” or “Revol” for a pop sound buried under layers of production) they could have been truly great.“Faster”:

Some Might Sway

Manchester City's superstar signing Carlos Tevez has offered Liam and Noel Gallagher a deal.

The little Argentinian has promised Latin dance classes in exchange for a music masterclass for his band Piola Vago from City's most famous fans.

Tevez and his brother Diego are Buenos Aires' answer to The Gallaghers, notching up a bit of chart success in their homeland with hit single Lose Your Control a few years back.

But Carlos, the frontman of the band, reckons there is plenty of scope for improving their musicianship - something he believes Noel and Liam can help with.

He said: "I know Oasis very well, it's a bit hard to live in Manchester for two years and not know who they are - plus they are well known in Argentina as well.

"Their music might be a bit different from Piola Vago, but in other ways we are similar - they have Noel and Liam and we have myself and Diego - so you could even say we are the Latin version of Oasis!

"They could teach us a few things and we could teach them how to dance the Latin way, I think it would be a lot of fun.

"Music is something I would like to give more time to after football so it would be great to play with the best.

"We are a very different sound to what most people in England are used to, but you should definitely give us a chance. You might like it."

I'll stick to the Match Of The Day theme tune, Carlos.

Noel Gallagher, What Are U Up To 2?

What happens when you put several rock 'n' roll greats under the same roof?

They raise it, that's what.

Noel Gallagher was in especially lively spirits at U2's concert after-party in London, messing around with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and climbing on the shoulders of a pal.

Looking more than a little tipsy, the Oasis lord couldn't stop flashing peace signs and giggling as he left the Home House several feet higher than when he'd arrived.

He found a partner in crime for the night in heavy metaller Lars as Bono and co kept a low profile as they kicked back following their two Wembley Stadium shows on Friday and Saturday.
With over two months of touring to go, no one could blame them for taking it easy.
