Erik Hassle Covers Oasis' Live Forever

If it weren't for Oasis, Swedish singer Erik Hassle's career could have been all about scoring goals instead of hits.

The big-quiffed songwriting talent popped in to the Sun HQ to perform a trio of tunes - including a tender cover of Oasis anthem Live Forever.

Watch his rendition of the defunct Manc band's 1994 hit here.

However, Erik revealed his main ambition as a youngster was to be a footie star - until Noel and Liam Gallagher intervened.

He said: "I used to love playing football, but I stopped at 16.

"Before music, for my whole life I wanted to play professionally. There was a bit of interest.

"When I was a kid, for a long time I was a midfielder. I played in the high league for boys. I could have gone on with that.

"But I've always loved music. Especially Oasis."

Gem Archer To Join Paul Weller On Stage At The NME Awards

Paul Weller is to receive a top honorary prize at this year's NME Awards, the annual Godlike Genius title.

The former frontman for The Jam will receive his award later this month and perform with ex Oasis man Gem Archer at the event which takes place at the O2 Brixton Academy in south London.

The bash is to be hosted by Jarvis Cocker and will be staged on February 24.

Noel Gallagher Won't Attend Court Date For Attacker

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher's on-again, off-again plan to address a Toronto court at the sentencing of a fan who attacked him onstage in 2008 is now off again.

At the urging of Mr. Gallagher, 42, the Crown sought and received an adjournment of last week's scheduled sentencing of Danny Sullivan, 48, of Pickering so that the British rock star could deliver his victim impact statement in person. Mr. Sullivan had already pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm for drunkenly mounting the stage at a Toronto Island concert and shoving Mr. Gallagher into a speaker cabinet, breaking three of his ribs.

Mr. Justice Richard Schneider reluctantly agreed to the delay, but at a hearing to set the new sentencing date of March 23 yesterday, prosecutor Ruth Kleinhenz told court Mr. Gallagher no longer plans to attend.

“I'm mystified,” John Collins, lawyer for Mr. Sullivan, said later. “I suppose there's reason to be concerned we might encounter another delay; hopefully that's not the case.”

Gallagher Brothers Set To Snub The Brits

If Brits bosses thought they could end the almighty Wonderbrawl between the Gallaghers, they need to think again.

Feuding Oasis brothers Liam, 37, and Noel, 42, have both been invited to next week's 30th anniversary awards show - and no expense has been spared for their "arrival".

A £14,000 table has been reserved for the lads - whose (What's The Story) Morning Glory? is up for Best British Album of the last 30 years.

However, we're told the chances of them both turning up are about as likely as Gary Glitter picking up a lifetime achievement award.

The brothers are still refusing to speak to each other - and if anyone does get them talking again, well, they'll deserve an award.

Liam, for one, is mulling over the thought of turning up on the night. He said: "I want to go. I want a night out and it would close the Oasis thing for me if we won it." But if he goes, Noel's a no-show, apparently.

His older brother has told pals that if Liam went he would snub the awards completely - and he has a plan B up his sleeve thanks to his mates from Kasabian.

A pal said: "Liam and Noel have still not spoken since they split.

"Things are so bad that Noel is moving into a new house at the moment and is so off radar, Liam doesn't even know the address. Every day the Brits are on the phone checking to see if they are coming, but there is still no answer from either of them. It's as if one is waiting for the other to crack and apologise.

"Liam's thinking he'll leave it until the last minute and will decide if he's going on Tuesday, which is the day itself." However, his relaxed rock star attitude is giving Brits organisers some serious problems.

"This is a live TV show," we're told. "There is no way bosses can keep an entire table empty, waiting on the off chance that they will rock up. Apart from the fact they will lose out on £14,000 worth of unused tickets if they don't turn up, a big empty table will look terrible on the TV." It certainly will - and canny Noel has the perfect get-out clause. Our source adds: "The Kasabian lads have asked Noel if he would perform at a War Child gig on the same night.

"He is seriously considering giving Liam and the awards the finger and turning up to play as a special guest." Brit mean, Noel!

Oasis Tipped To Take Brits Album Title

Bookies have stopped taking bets on who'll take the Brit for Best Album Of 30 Years after a run of big money on Oasis.

They look dead certs to win it for (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - their second album released in 1995. The band, who split last year, are up against Coldplay, Dido, Dire Straits, Duffy, Keane, Phil Collins, Sade, The Verve and Travis.

However, the prospect of Oasis landing the gong has put organisers under pressure in case warring brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher both want to attend.

They will have to be seated well apart and you know there's a chance of trouble.

The lads have not spoken since the huge bust-up backstage in Paris in August when Noel quit the band for good. Liam has already shaken things up nicely - slating Florence And The Machine.

He said: "I'm not having anyone with ginger hair making music. I can't go down that road.

"I'm sure she's a nice girl but she sounds like someone has stood on her f***ing foot."

Noel Gallagher Has To Be Reffing Joking

Best moment on TV this week came on ESPN, where Fenners (John Fendley, previously of Soccer AM fame) interviewed Manchester City fanatic Noel Gallagher.

I admit I haven't seen any of Fenners' other interviews on ESPN (Ray Winstone and Michael Dawson have been featured before), so I can't be sure whether he always takes on the appearance of his interviewee or whether his Oasis haircut and mod clothes were just happy coincidence.

Either way this sofabound interview looked like the Gallagher brothers talking to each other - without the violence of course.

Fendley, a brilliant comic performer, was quite subdued and didn't have to work too hard, you just wind up the older Gallagher brother and away he goes, riffing on life with his customary irreverence and humour.

But the high point came when Fendley asked the obvious question: "What would you have done if you could have been a rock star or a top player?" "Top referee," was Gallagher's stunning choice of perfect career, as he explained.

"It must be great being a top ref. I'd just say to Darren Fletcher, 'Oi, come here'," said Gallagher making a beckoning gesture with a hand.

"Come on, come here, right here. Now, go away, go on, go away," (the same gesture in reverse).

"Then I'd bring him back, then send him away and on and on until he got annoyed, then I'd book him and send him off. How brilliant would that be?"

On This Day In Oasis History

"Go Let It Out" is a song by English rock band Oasis, written by the band's lead guitarist Noel Gallagher.

It was released on February 7th 2000 as the first single from the fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. The song peaked at #1 in the UK charts where it went Silver.

The lyrics are a similar vein to "Roll With It" in that it encourages the listener to get on with their life without being specific about how this is to be achieved. The song samples the drums from Johnny Jenkins' version of Dr John's "I Walk on Gilded Splinters". The title may be a reference to the line in "Hey Jude" by The Beatles, "So let it out and let it in, hey, Jude, begin". Noel described the song as "the closest we came to sounding like a modern day Beatles" in the 'Lock the Box' interview found on the DVD in the special edition of Stop the Clocks.

The song, along with B-side "(As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes in Hell", also embodies the psychedelic feel which the band experimented with on the album. It couples this with an acoustic guitar chord sequence. "Let's All Make Believe", the second B-Side is considered by many to be one of the best Oasis B-sides. Some people believe the lyrics of this song to relate to the cracks that began forming in the group at the time (see below), for example: "So let's all make believe/that we're still friends and we like each other."

Due to the departure of guitarist Bonehead and bassist Guigsy in the early recording sessions for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, the track features only Liam Gallagher (vocals), Noel Gallagher (rhythm guitar, bass guitar, lead guitar) and Alan White (drums).

Oasis were looking for replacements for founding members Bonehead and Guigsy and while Bonehead was quickly replaced with fellow Creation signing and former Heavy Stereo frontman Gem Archer, Guigsy proved harder to replace. Thus the trippy video for "Go Let It Out" had to be filmed with Noel on bass, Archer in Noel's role as lead guitarist and Liam in Archer's role as rhythm guitarist.



The b-side "Let's All Make Believe" has recently been included in several lists as a 'hidden gem', such as Q magazine placing it at number one on its list of '500 best lost tracks' and at 4 on its 'list of songs to download this month - January 2006.' Q magazine said in the description 'If Standing on the Shoulder of Giants had contained this track, it would have probably got another star'.

In the "lock the box" interview, Noel considers "Go Let It Out" to be "head and shoulders" above any other songs he had written during this time, and its "up there with some of the best things I've ever done."

"Go Let It Out" is included on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks, and is the only song from Standing on the Shoulder of Giants on that album.
