Noel Gallagher Checks Out A Bargain At Oxfam

Click here to see Noel Gallagher weighing up a hefty Black AmEx card purchase.

The Oasis lord was at Oxfam Books & Music in north London, where I hear he has found cracking bargains in the past.

Noel's a thrifty geezer.

He only pays big bucks for a gaff or Stone Island jacket.

"The Hindu Times" is a song by English rock group Oasis, and was the first single to be released from their fifth album Heathen Chemistry on 15 April 2002. It was written by Noel Gallagher. Noel got the name "The Hindu Times" from a t-shirt he saw in a charity shop. The song was the band's sixth UK #1 single, staying on top for one week before being dislodged by the Sugababes' "Freak Like Me".

The title has little to do with the lyrics of the song, which are more in the vein of Definitely Maybe's "Rock 'n' Roll Star". It has been speculated that the title refers to the main riffs' similarity to Indian music in sound, sounding as if they were played on a sitar. Gallagher himself says that it is because he had already named the song before any lyrics were written for it.

The song, which combines the powerful fast rock of their earlier work with the psychedelic feel of their later work, was one of the first Oasis singles since (What's the Story) Morning Glory to receive almost unanimously positive reviews from the critics. However, some fans have criticised the song, stating that the main guitar riff was lifted from the Stereophonics song, "Same Size Feet", which was released in 1997 on their Word Gets Around album and uses the exact same, or at least very similar, guitar riff.

The song was unveiled during Oasis' Autumn 2001 Noise and Confusion Tour. The song was due to be released commercially at the same time but Noel decided the track needed more work done on it to be suitable for release.

The B-side, "Just Getting Older", was written at the time of the release of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

The demo version of The Hindu Times is radically different from the finished album version. Most of the lyrics (sung by Noel) are different, and the slower sound of the song is much more "grungy", with a heavy drum loop running throughout the song. It is also a semitone higher in the demo.

The "10 Minutes..." documentary is the first part of a unique feature covering 48 hours on the road with Oasis during the Tour of Brotherly Love which took place in the USA with the Black Crowes during May and June 2001.

Russell Brand's New Film 'Inspired By Oasis, Mick Jagger, Morrissey'

Russell Brand has said his latest film role has been inspired by the likes of Liam and Noel Gallagher, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Morrissey.

The comic is currently filming for Get Him To The Greek, which sees him reprise his character Aldous Snow from 2008 film Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

In the new film, Snow fronts a band called Infant Sorrow, and when he was asked whether any musicians had inspired the role, he replied: "Lots. Jagger, Keith Richards, Bowie, Morrissey, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher. I'm friendly with some musicians so I'm able to watch them. They're very different from comedians. They're rude - at the least the ones I know. They're so self-assured."

Brand told Comingsoon.net: "I didn't ransack the biography of my musical chums. I felt that would sort of be like grave robbing. I did lots of characteristics and traits from some musicians I know like Morrissey or Noel Gallagher for example."

In February, director Nick Stoller told Hitfix that Carl Barat has written songs for the project, which are likely to be sung by Brand fronting the fictional Infant Sorrow. Jarvis Cocker has also contributed three songs.

P. Diddy, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Christina Aguilera and Brand's girlfriend Katy Perry all appear in the film.

On April 13th 2002 Noel Gallagher appeared on Soccer AM, above are a few highlights from the show.

The Enemy Talk Oasis

British indie types The Enemy have revealed the real reason behind their last minute call off on the final Oasis tour.

Gathering a number of close friends, Oasis began their biggest ever UK tour last year in high spirits. However almost immediately cracks appeared with The Enemy forced to pull out of the opening night.

Singer Tom Clarke came down ill, with The Enemy missing out on the first show of their stint on the tour. Later the band were forced to miss out on a show at Wembley stadium. Speaking to ClashMusic bass player Andy Hopkins revealed the real reason behind the call off - lilies.

"Basically, we were on the Oasis tour, we were doing Saturday at Wembley" he explained. "We were all dead looking forward to it, couldn’t wait. But the thing is, Tom’s allergic to lilies. It’s really bad. If he’s at home and his mum’s got lilies in the house, even then it can happen".

"We didn’t ask for it or anything, obviously, but there was lilies in the dressing room. His throat closed up and he couldn’t sing so we had to cancel with Oasis. I was absolutely fuming and he was gutted, but there just wasn’t anything he could do about it."

Continuing, The Enemy star explained that the band have made no timetable to begin work on their third album. "That’s the thing. We’re having no deadlines this time. We’re thinking of taking as long as we want, maybe an album out by the end of the year, maybe not."

"We want to release an album that we all love and we want time to be able to do that. There’s no point releasing music that you’re not happy with. You can’t force someone to write songs otherwise it’s not natural."

Pretty Green And Clarks Originals

The inspiration behind every Pretty Green product is our love for classic British style and the label’s first footwear release is no different. Pretty Green, in collaboration with Clarks Originals, is very proud to introduce the Pretty Green desert boot.

View the Green Desert Boot

The Pretty Green desert boot was designed by Liam and the Clarks Originals design team at their Somerset HQ and, as with every Pretty Green product, Liam had a clear vision of what he wanted from the collaboration. He wanted to keep the signature look and feel of the Clarks Original desert boot but add a wider and rounder toe as well as a lower heel to create a slimmer profile than the original and the result will be available to buy online in late July.

The Pretty Green desert boot comes in three standard colours; black, brown and champagne suede, and will also be available in a limited edition green suede exclusively to Pretty Green.

Designed by Liam and crafted from premium Janus Butt suede by long standing family tanners The Stead’s Tannery of Leeds, the Pretty Green desert boot will be the only footwear release from the label in AW10 and it’s not to be missed.

"Supersonic" is the debut single released by British rock band Oasis, written by Noel Gallagher. It also appears on their debut album, Definitely Maybe. It was released on the 11 April 1994 and peaked at #31 on the official UK charts. It was the song performed by the band on their debut national TV performance on Channel 4's The Word, which aired on 18 March 1994. It remains to this day a favourite song of both the band and their fans (on the Definitely Maybe DVD, Noel cites it as his favourite Oasis song). The single went silver in the UK on June 30, 2006, 12 years and 3 months after its original release.

In spite of its popularity, Gallagher claims the song is basically a collection of nonsense lyrics written in a matter of minutes, just before the band entered the recording studios to record the track. The identity of the character "Elsa" caused some confusion — according to the song She done it with a doctor/On a helicopter/she sniffin' in a tissue/Sellin' the Big Issue. Noel claims, "Someone told me "Supersonic" was about teenage prostitution. Shit!". It has since been revealed that Elsa was a nine-stone rottweiler with a flatulence problem who was in the studio on the day the song was written, hence the line "she's into Alka Seltzer". It was written and recorded at The Pink Museum in Liverpool. The plan was for Oasis to record "Bring It On Down" for their debut single and another bunch of demos. However, "Supersonic" was written and it impressed everyone so much, it was chosen to be the band's first single. Gallagher has revealed in interviews that "Supersonic"'s distinctive lead guitar part wasn't a deliberate copy of the intro to George Harrison's 1971 single "My Sweet Lord". The band recorded two videos for the song, for UK and US release. The UK version of the video features the band playing on a roof, similar to The Beatles' rooftop concert.

It is included on the official music album for Euro 2004, Vive O 2004!

The song is included on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks.

Liam Gallagher Talks Drink, Drugs And The Brits

Liam Gallagher isn’t ready to hang up his tambourine just yet, as ShortList’s Luke Edwards found out when he met the music world’s most outspoken icon

Even through the heavy hotel door, the muffled Mancunian jabbering of Liam Gallagher is an intimidating sound. This is the man who has – between recording seven No 1 albums – fired a fire extinguisher at Paul Gascoigne and swung a cricket bat at his own brother. Suddenly, that question about monobrows we’ve got scrawled in our notebook doesn’t seem quite so clever. But, as we enter the large room, the atmosphere is surprisingly serene. Meeting our outstretched hand, the 37-year-old rock’n’roll legend, father and burgeoning fashion entrepreneur, who has just started his own clothing brand Pretty Green, greets us with an “All right, mate”.

Across a 20-year career, the former Oasis frontman has done it all, from headlining Glastonbury to irking Peter Kay at the Brit Awards. But, of course, there is an elephant in the room that we can’t help but mention before we start…

Was the recent conflict within Oasis a good thing?
Oasis ran its course. We stepped over that fine line. People in the band grew up and went different ways. He [Noel] wanted to be a certain way and I wanted to be another. He wanted to chill a bit – our kid’s not rock’n’roll, mate… I am. I’m still going for it ’til the day I die, without a doubt.

What would you do if you saw Noel?
I don’t wanna see him. But if I see him, who knows what would happen? I’ll probably end up f*ckin’ leatherin’ him.

Noel seems like he is mates with Russell Brand now…
They’re a f*cking match. Who do they remind me of? You remember that old politician, the weird little b*stard with the wife that were dead tall… Neil Hamilton! That’s who they look like.

What did you think of Blur reforming?
Them gigs weren’t as good as our gigs. No way. But, they’re all right. They’re in it for the money, aren’t they? The f*ckers. You won’t catch Oasis reforming, y’know. Never.

Do you maintain your own Twitter account or get someone to do it for you?
[Stands] I do it when people get f*ckin’ fresh, then I hit them, big time. It’s like a weapon, know what I mean? Just shuts a few people up. [Sits] But I don’t go, “Hey, I’ve just had a biscuit,” or, “Just tied my f*ckin’ shoe lace,” or, “I’ve just had my ninth sh*t of the day.” It’s f*ckin’ ridiculous.

Have you got anything else to say to Peter Kay [who insulted Liam at this year’s Brit Awards]?
[Stands again] On that subject [shouts], which is what I should have said on that f*ckin’ Twitter is, “Talking of knob, have you seen yours lately, you f*ckin’ fat c*nt?” Know what I mean? Bet he ain’t seen his for years, has he? But no, f*ck him, that is one c*nt who would get decked if I saw him on the street, believe you me.

You’re a Catholic man – do you believe in forgiveness, or God for that matter?
I’m pretty Zen-like. I believe in f*ckin’ feeling good and feeling positive and all that, and letting things go. Saying that, I’ve just said I’m gonna bite f*ckin’ Peter Kay’s head off when I see him next…

Do illegal music downloaders bother you?
Downloading’s the same as what I used to do – I used to tape the charts of the songs I liked [off the radio]. I don’t mind it. I hate all these big, silly rock stars who moan – at least they’re f*ckin’ downloading your music, you c*nt, and paying attention, know what I mean? You should f*ckin’ appreciate that – what are you moaning about? You’ve got f*ckin’ five big houses, so shut up.

When are you going to start touring with the new band?
Towards the end of this year. The album is written, we’re recording it in April for three weeks then we have a break, then go back in for another four weeks and it’ll be done by June. But it won’t be coming out ’til next year ’cos we’ve got some Oasis sh*t coming out later in the year. But we’re pushing to have a single out in October – so hopefully do some gigs around then.

What’s been the inspiration for the album?
Same as before. Just annihilating sh*t music. There’s enough inspiration out there, just looking at all these other sh*t bands. People are gonna be surprised, it’s a lot more musical than Oasis.

Which are the best and worst bands right now?
The best bands have gotta be Kasabian, the Arctic Monkeys are all right… that’s about it really. The worst? Oh, all that shit, Bloc Party – I don’t even know the names, just all that indie shit. People who don’t believe, who are just getting a little career out of it so they can go to the pub with a mate and go [puts on a feminine voice], “Oooh, I’ve been on Top Of The Pops.” It ain’t about that.

You have expressed an interest in working with Jay-Z and he feels the same way. What’s stopping it?
If he wants to do a tune with me and he rings me, and I don’t have to do that much and he wants to put my voice on a tune that I like, then, y’know, I’ll do it – but you wouldn’t catch me rapping or anything.

Are you still on the drink and drugs?
Not as much, but if we’re going out for a drink I’ll be the last f*ckin’ one standing mate – I know how to put it away, know what I mean? I don’t do it as much as I used to, but when I go, I f*ckin’ go. Start off with a lager, then get bored of that and hit the tequilas… then that’s it. Not into ales and all that – it’s f*ckin’ Peter Kay tackle that, i’n’t it? Dart-player nonsense. Let’s talk about your new clothing label, Pretty Green – how far back does your love of fashion go?
I wouldn’t say I’m into fashion, know what I mean? It’s just things that look good. I weren’t going round town going, “Oh, look at that material there, that looks good.” We just got on with it. And when the Manchester scene blew up with all the band, I got a bit more involved.

The general election is coming up – who will you vote for?
I’m not telling you. Doesn’t matter who you f*ckin’ vote for – it’ll still be sh*t unless you join a band.

Liam Gallagher: 'Noel And Russell Brand Are Like Neil And Christine Hamilton'

He slams their friendship...

Liam Gallagher has compared his brother Noel's friendship with Russell Brand to the relationship between Neil and Christine Hamilton.

The pair have developed a close bond in recent years after Noel made a series of regular appearances on Brand's former BBC 6 Music radio show.

In an interview with Shortlist, Liam said his brother and Brand, who also co-hosted a one-off show on Talk Sport last year, were a “fucking match”.

“Who do they remind me of? You remember that old politician, the weird little bastard with the wife that were dead tall...Neil Hamilton!" he said.

“That's who they look like.”

As previously reported on Gigwise, Liam also used the interview to discuss Oasis' demise last summer – and insisted they would “never” reform.

He also claimed he would “probably end up fuckin' leatherin'” his brother if they came face to face.

Liam is currently working on his debut solo album, which he said was due to be released next year.

Liam Galllagher: 'Oasis Will Never Reform'

Liam Gallagher would hit brother Noel if he saw him.

The disgruntled ex-Oasis frontman believes he would react violently if he saw his sibling – who was the main songwriter and guitarist in the group – and would probably “leather” him, an English slang term meaning to beat someone up.

Liam told Shortlist magazine: “I don’t wanna see him. But if I see him, who knows what would happen? I’ll probably end up f***ing leathering him.”

Liam, 37, and Noel, 42, have a long running love/hate relationship and have previously waged wars of words against each and fought in public, with Noel briefly quitting the band in 2000 after they got into a drunken fight in Barcelona after Liam questioned the legitimacy of his brother’s daughter Anais, provoking Noel into headbutting him.

The ‘Lyla’ singer also insisted Noel – who quit the group last summer after the pair got into a fight just moments before they were due on stage in Paris - isn’t “rock ‘n’ roll” anymore and that Oasis will never reform.

He added: “Oasis ran its course. We stepped over that fine line. People in the band grew up and went different ways. Noel wanted to chill out a bit. He’s not rock ‘n’ roll mate. I am, I’m still going for it until the day I die, without a doubt. You won’t catch Oasis reforming y’know, not ever.”

Since the group’s split Liam has formed a new band featuring all the members of Oasis apart from Noel, who is currently working on his first solo record.

Liam Gallagher Still Mad At Peter Kay

Liam Gallagher clearly isn’t one to forgive and forget, and has had another pop at our favourite Northern comedian Peter Kay!

Liam is obviously still rather cross after Peter called him a k***head on stage, at the Brit awards, in front of millions of people, despite the fact that Peter only said what the majority of people were probably thinking.

Anyway, after initially threatening to “f***ing deck” the comedian next time he sees him, Liam is still trying to squeeze some extra publicity out of the whole debacle and has said; “Talking of knob, have you seen yours lately, you f***ing fat c***? That is one c*** who’d get decked if I saw him on the street, believe you me.”

Erm, Liam, don’t you think it’s time you started acting like a proper grown up? No one likes a crybaby.

Oasis 'Time Flies' Artwork

There have been so many iconic gigs throughout the history of Oasis. From Maine Road, Wembley Stadium (both new and old!), Madison Square Gardens to River Plate Stadium in Argentina, to name a very small handful.

But we think most people will agree that the most iconic of them all was their record-breaking weekend at Knebworth. 2.5 million people applied for the available 250,000 tickets for those two sunny days back in August 1996 .

So it’s fitting that the front cover of the sleeve for the upcoming singles collection features a stellar shot of you the fans from those historic gigs at Knebworth.

'Time Flies... 1994-2009' is the forthcoming complete singles collection by Oasis and is released 14th June. More more info, click HERE!
