Noel Gallagher To Use Choir On Solo Record

Noel Gallagher wants to use a choir on his forthcoming solo LP. The former "Oasis" guitarist, who quit the band August 2009 following a series of explosive rows with his brother, frontman Liam Gallagher, wants the Crouch End Festival Chorus to appear on the record after performing with them at London's Royal Albert Hall last month.

"I was speaking to Noel's manager about this and I was saying to him," David Temple, the choir's conductor, said. "We'll get the very best out of the choir if we get any recording. It'd be in a studio, we'd love it."

While Noel has said little about his solo record, Liam has revealed his is working with his fellow former Oasis' band mates, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, but won't be reprising the name because he hates it. He said, "It's not Oasis. That was a s**t name anyway. I'm glad to see the back of it."

"There's one that we're digging at the moment, but we're going to get on with the music and see how it goes. If we haven't got a better one by then, we'll go with the one we're into."

"We'll be on stage this year, without a doubt. We're halfway through the record, the demos, that is. We're in the studio this April to see if this producer works out. If he does, we'll crack on with the album through June and July."

Paul Weller: 'Oasis Split Was Best Outcome For Noel And Liam Gallagher'

Paul Weller says Oasis’ split last year was the best possible outcome for brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The Manchester group disbanded after guitarist Noel said he could no longer work with his brother.

“I feel the weight's been lifted from both of their shoulders and creatively it's going to be better for everyone,” Weller told XFM.

Noel and Liam are currently working on solo albums, and Weller, who is friends with both, said he expected their new projects to be “really good”.

“Lovely boys. They're all good. They're all buzzing,” he added.

Weller is currently promoting his new album, ‘Wake Up The Nation’, which is released on Monday (April 19).

On This Day In Oasis History...

"The Hindu Times" is a song by English rock group Oasis, and was the first single to be released from their fifth album Heathen Chemistry on 15 April 2002. It was written by Noel Gallagher. Noel got the name "The Hindu Times" from a t-shirt he saw in a charity shop. The song was the band's sixth UK #1 single, staying on top for one week before being dislodged by the Sugababes' "Freak Like Me".

The title has little to do with the lyrics of the song, which are more in the vein of Definitely Maybe's "Rock 'n' Roll Star". It has been speculated that the title refers to the main riffs' similarity to Indian music in sound, sounding as if they were played on a sitar. Gallagher himself says that it is because he had already named the song before any lyrics were written for it.

The song, which combines the powerful fast rock of their earlier work with the psychedelic feel of their later work, was one of the first Oasis singles since (What's the Story) Morning Glory to receive almost unanimously positive reviews from the critics. However, some fans have criticised the song, stating that the main guitar riff was lifted from the Stereophonics song, "Same Size Feet", which was released in 1997 on their Word Gets Around album and uses the exact same, or at least very similar, guitar riff.

The song was unveiled during Oasis' Autumn 2001 Noise and Confusion Tour. The song was due to be released commercially at the same time but Noel decided the track needed more work done on it to be suitable for release.

The B-side, "Just Getting Older", was written at the time of the release of Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.

10 Minutes Of Noise And Confusion - Pt One - 9:26

The demo version of The Hindu Times is radically different from the finished album version. Most of the lyrics (sung by Noel) are different, and the slower sound of the song is much more "grungy", with a heavy drum loop running throughout the song. It is also a semitone higher in the demo.

The "10 Minutes..." documentary is the first part of a unique feature covering 48 hours on the road with Oasis during the Tour of Brotherly Love which took place in the USA with the Black Crowes during May and June 2001.

Russell Brand's New Film 'Inspired By Oasis, Mick Jagger, Morrissey'

Russell Brand has said his latest film role has been inspired by the likes of Liam and Noel Gallagher, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and Morrissey.

The comic is currently filming for Get Him To The Greek, which sees him reprise his character Aldous Snow from 2008 film Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

In the new film, Snow fronts a band called Infant Sorrow, and when he was asked whether any musicians had inspired the role, he replied: "Lots. Jagger, Keith Richards, Bowie, Morrissey, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher. I'm friendly with some musicians so I'm able to watch them. They're very different from comedians. They're rude - at the least the ones I know. They're so self-assured."

Brand told Comingsoon.net: "I didn't ransack the biography of my musical chums. I felt that would sort of be like grave robbing. I did lots of characteristics and traits from some musicians I know like Morrissey or Noel Gallagher for example."

In February, director Nick Stoller told Hitfix that Carl Barat has written songs for the project, which are likely to be sung by Brand fronting the fictional Infant Sorrow. Jarvis Cocker has also contributed three songs.

P. Diddy, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Christina Aguilera and Brand's girlfriend Katy Perry all appear in the film.

The Enemy Talk Oasis

British indie types The Enemy have revealed the real reason behind their last minute call off on the final Oasis tour.

Gathering a number of close friends, Oasis began their biggest ever UK tour last year in high spirits. However almost immediately cracks appeared with The Enemy forced to pull out of the opening night.

Singer Tom Clarke came down ill, with The Enemy missing out on the first show of their stint on the tour. Later the band were forced to miss out on a show at Wembley stadium. Speaking to ClashMusic bass player Andy Hopkins revealed the real reason behind the call off - lilies.

"Basically, we were on the Oasis tour, we were doing Saturday at Wembley" he explained. "We were all dead looking forward to it, couldn’t wait. But the thing is, Tom’s allergic to lilies. It’s really bad. If he’s at home and his mum’s got lilies in the house, even then it can happen".

"We didn’t ask for it or anything, obviously, but there was lilies in the dressing room. His throat closed up and he couldn’t sing so we had to cancel with Oasis. I was absolutely fuming and he was gutted, but there just wasn’t anything he could do about it."

Continuing, The Enemy star explained that the band have made no timetable to begin work on their third album. "That’s the thing. We’re having no deadlines this time. We’re thinking of taking as long as we want, maybe an album out by the end of the year, maybe not."

"We want to release an album that we all love and we want time to be able to do that. There’s no point releasing music that you’re not happy with. You can’t force someone to write songs otherwise it’s not natural."

'Lost' Oasis Single Sneaks On New Singles Collection 'Time Flies' After All

Two-disc set looks like it will include a special secret track

Oasis' new compilation album 'Time Flies' will include 'Sunday Morning Call', despite it initally appearing that the 2000 single was going to be omitted from the career-spanning release.

The song was initially missing from the compilation's tracklisting, which features every other Oasis single since the band's 1994 debut 'Supersonic'.

However, on promotional copies of the collection 'Sunday Morning Call' features as a unannounced secret track at the end of the second disc of the compilation, coming after the band's final single 'Falling Down', which came out last year.

It is believed this will be the same for the final version of the record.

The Noel Gallagher-sung track, taken from Oasis' 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' album, charted at Number 4 in July 2000.

'Time Flies' will be released on June 14. The cover artwork is a shot of one of Oasis' Knebworth gigs in 1996.

Oasis Documentary Looking For Fan Stories

To help celebrate Oasis and their music Big Brother Recordings are working together with Pulse Films to make a documentary about you, the fans of the band.

Whether it was that faithful night at one of their gigs where you met the love of your life, or if you only got to see them for the first time on the 'Dig Out Your Soul' tour, we want to hear from you! We want to know how the key moments of your life were soundtracked by Oasis and their music.

We’re hoping to tell the story of Oasis from the fans perspective, so we’d like to hear your stories from any point in the band's career.

Stories can be big or small, happy or sad, emotional, inspiring, incredible or hilarious… but above all personal and referring to an experience that’s unique to you.

Ideally we’re looking for stories we can get our teeth into: locations we can revisit; the story of an obsession that has persisted to this day; of how your family has come to be defined by Oasis…

On This Day In Oasis History...

On April 12th 2002, this performance of 'The Hindu Times' was broadcast on 'Top Of The Pops'.

The song was part of an exclusive live performance for a 'Top Of The Pops Oasis Special', that was to be broadcast later that year.

The band played seven songs live in front of a small invited audience, including five songs from 'Heathen Chemistry' some of which had never been performed before.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Supersonic" is the debut single released by British rock band Oasis, written by Noel Gallagher. It also appears on their debut album, Definitely Maybe. It was released on the 11 April 1994 and peaked at #31 on the official UK charts. It was the song performed by the band on their debut national TV performance on Channel 4's The Word, which aired on 18 March 1994. It remains to this day a favourite song of both the band and their fans (on the Definitely Maybe DVD, Noel cites it as his favourite Oasis song). The single went silver in the UK on June 30, 2006, 12 years and 3 months after its original release.

In spite of its popularity, Gallagher claims the song is basically a collection of nonsense lyrics written in a matter of minutes, just before the band entered the recording studios to record the track. The identity of the character "Elsa" caused some confusion — according to the song She done it with a doctor/On a helicopter/she sniffin' in a tissue/Sellin' the Big Issue. Noel claims, "Someone told me "Supersonic" was about teenage prostitution. Shit!". It has since been revealed that Elsa was a nine-stone rottweiler with a flatulence problem who was in the studio on the day the song was written, hence the line "she's into Alka Seltzer". It was written and recorded at The Pink Museum in Liverpool. The plan was for Oasis to record "Bring It On Down" for their debut single and another bunch of demos. However, "Supersonic" was written and it impressed everyone so much, it was chosen to be the band's first single. Gallagher has revealed in interviews that "Supersonic"'s distinctive lead guitar part wasn't a deliberate copy of the intro to George Harrison's 1971 single "My Sweet Lord". The band recorded two videos for the song, for UK and US release. The UK version of the video features the band playing on a roof, similar to The Beatles' rooftop concert.

It is included on the official music album for Euro 2004, Vive O 2004!

In March 2005, Q magazine placed "Supersonic" at number 20 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks.

In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Supersonic" at number 25 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.

The song is included on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks.
