Elton John: Oasis Were ‘Stupid Sods'

Elton John has taken a huge swipe at Oasis for failing to crack America.

The legend has called Noel and Liam Gallagher "stupid sods" for cancelling a series of gigs in the US in the mid-Nineties.

He said: "They were enormous in Britain, they were enormous in America and they went over there and argued between themselves and cancelled the tour and they never broke America.

"You only get it once, and if you blow it, it's gone. You can't not regret that.

"I always thought, 'You stupid sods. You'll never get that opportunity again'."

Just for good measure, Elton then stuck the boot in further by saying he reckons the Gallagher brothers are only children compared to the members of Coldplay and Muse.

Speaking to Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell he said: "It's only the cream that rises to the top. It's always the ones with the best work ethic and the best material and the best attitude.

"You know, it's the boys from the men. Coldplay, Muse, U2, Police, all those bands. They're the men, and all the rest are boys."

Don't mince your words, mate.

Liam was definitely playing the big kid as he mucked about pulling faces at Primal Scream's almighty post gig tear-up in London on Saturday at W Hotel's Wyld Bar.

He joined the likes of Kate Moss and fashion's Philip Treacy as the band celebrated performing their classic 1991 album Screamadelica at London Olympia.

Liam's got form for being lippy - and it doesn't look like he's about to change his ways any time soon...

Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie Backs Beady Eye

Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie hopes former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher achieves success with his new venture Beady Eye.

Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie hopes Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye is a huge success.

The singer is yet to hear the band's first track 'Bring The Light' but insists he is a big fan of the 'Songbird' singer and is confident he will make a rocking album with his bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, who all also performed with Oasis.

He said: "I love Liam and I love Noel and I wish them both the best of luck in their new musical explorations. I don't understand measuring people against what they did formerly. Either it rocks or it doesn't rock. I hope it's successful for Liam."

The Manchester rocker decided to form his band after his brother Noel Gallagher quit the group in August 2009 following a pre-concert bust-up.

Though Bobby hasn't heard Beady Eye's new material yet, he will have the opportunity to see them as the group have announced their first live dates for March next year.

Let There Be Love" is a song on the British rock band Oasis' sixth album, Don't Believe the Truth. Written by Noel Gallagher, it is the second Oasis song to feature Liam and Noel on lead vocals, the first being the B-Side "Acquiesce". It was released on November 28, 2005 as the third single from the album in the UK, and the second single in the US. It reached number two in the UK charts, capping a very successful year for the band. Many critics cited this song as proof that Oasis had returned to form we had seen in the mid-90's.

A demo for the track was recorded during demo sessions for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. A bootleg of these demo sessions was leaked onto the Internet in early 2000. This track was given the unofficial title "It's A Crime" on many bootlegs as the track was unknown and unreferenced anywhere before then. The album version of the song is structurally almost exactly as the same as the demo with a slight change in melody in the part that Noel sings. The lyrics to the chorus remains intact, but the verses and bridge have totally rewritten lyrics.

The single version of the song omits the second verse and chorus.

A second, Noel-sung demo was released on the "Let There Be Love" DVD single. It has the same lyrics as the album version, and in fact the album version takes some elements from the demo such as the piano. It was probably recorded sometime in 2003 or 2004, prior to the main Don't Believe the Truth recording sessions.

The video is a montage of some of Oasis' live shows during the summer of 2005 including clips of the gigs at Hampden Park and the City of Manchester Stadium. The clips don't actually show the band playing 'Let There Be Love'.

The song has only been played live once, on an Italian radio show in late 2005.

Both The Gallagher's Hit London Town

Biz Lords Liam and Noel Gallagher hit the town in London last night. But, as you might expect, they weren't together.

Oh no, gone are the days when the Manchester-born brothers would have a big tear up together, and end up having a scrap with each other.

While Noel and his missus Sara enjoyed a night at the famous Groucho Club in Soho, Liam was in north London at the first ever club night for his label Pretty Green.

Both looked on good form.

Earlier in the night Kasabian star Tom Meighan played at Pretty Green's Carnaby Street store.

Before the performance Liam said: "Tom's a good mate of mine. He knows his music. I know you will all have a good time. It was about time he got a proper f****** job."

He's a got a way with words that man...

Beady Eye Discuss New Album

A few bits 'n' bobs I typed up from the current issue of Q.

Liam Gallagher named the band, and that rehearsals began with Beady Eye a few weeks after Noel left with the understanding that they would leave Oasis behind for good and play only new material, originated by Gallagher, Archer and Bell, and collectively worked up into co-written group compositions.

Liam on moving on from Oasis. "It was important not to sit and dwell on the past," he explains. " We came off tour and were still on fire. If we'd said, let's do something in a few months, or next year, the flame would have burnt out or we'd have got the fear. We were buzzing."

"We're musicians," adds Andy Bell "It's what we want to do, it's how we define ourselves. We could have sat at home, but what's the point?"

Gem Archer on the irony of working with Jeff Wooton, who plays guitar in the touring line-up of Damon Albarn's Gorrilaz. "You need irony in your life, and Damon Albarn has his head screwed on using him, he's a great musician."

The band have described the new songs as "light on their feet" and a move away from the wall of sound style of Oasis. Gem said " Psychedelia is a big word, but there are definite psychedelic moments in there. But there's also anti-psychedelic, very basic songs, and a lot of rock 'n' roll piano borrowed from Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis. Sound wise The Who, The Kinks and the Stones are there, that's the stuff in our blood.

Gem on working with Steve Lillywhite, "He was a ball of energy and made us focus and work quickly. It was that vibe again of trying to create a proper debut album - and that's exactly what I think we have done. It sounds exciting."

Tom Meighan On Beady Eye

A photo of Tom, from the Pretty Green store in London this evening.

Tom Meighan has revealed that he'd listened to part of Liam Gallagher's new material from his Beady Eye project in a hotel room about three months ago.

He said he liked what he'd heard, even though it was unmastered.

"I've heard Liam's record and it's fantastic," he revealed. "What he's doing is amazing.

"He was the frontman of Oasis. He's got nothing to prove any more. I love him and adore him but it's so not Oasis at all."

Ray Stubbs On Drinking With Noel Gallagher

Taken from a interview with Ray Stubbs

Speaking of mayhem and madness, in an interview with Irish magazine Hot Press in 2006, Noel Gallagher from Oasis declared that "Ray Stubbs is a fucking legend". Are you aware of that?

Am I aware of that? I've got the article blown up, framed and made into wallpaper for my house. Actually I haven't, but it's given me a good idea.

Can you remember why this Mancunian wild man of rock thinks you're a legend?

I can remember the incident vividly, yes.

And would you care to share it with our readers?

It was at the World Cup 2006 wrap party and we were playing a drinking game that the younger generation of the BBC staff present launched. When the challenge was set, I felt I had to stick up for the old brigade and try to hold my own.

According to Gallagher, you downed two steins of German lager in the time it took the assembled throng to sing the theme music to Match of the Day. That's impressive ...

I can't remember the exact details, but it was something like that. As an observer from afar, Noel was probably in a better position to remember than me. As someone who admires his music so much, I was incredibly pleased when I heard he'd said that.

It seems to have been quite a party, with Gallagher there, alongside Alessandro Del Piero and Spike Lee, among other celebrities.

It was fascinating. Martin O'Neill was there, Marcel Desailly ... Leonardo. In fact the final line of the Fiver the day after was that the "the BBC's wrap party wasn't as dull as the coverage".

Readt the full interview here.
