Elton John On Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 'Who Built The Moon?

Noel Gallagher appears on Elton John‘s radio show this week, with Elton telling Noel what he thinks about his new album.

On Elton’s Beats 1 radio show Rocket Hour, the host gives Noel his take on ‘Who Built The Moon’, saying: “I can hear certain things on this album that you probably wouldn’t. I can hear a bit of T-Rex. There’s a bit of Steve Miller I can hear. I can hear Beatles things obviously. But it’s all things that I love.”

“It’s one of these albums that you just can’t stop playing and it makes you happy,” John adds.

Noel agrees: “Yeah that was my overriding feeling about it. When I finished the thing it was like, there’s an overriding sense of joy in it which I’ve been saying in all the interviews is almost revolutionary these days because if you’re a guy playing a guitar in a band you’re almost obliged to write about the news. And the news, as we all know, is boring, it’s the same old same old. To get that amount of joy in a record is unique these days I think.”

Gallagher also spoke to John about his love of Young Fathers, saying: “I went to see them when they were on tour with Massive Attack just after that album came out and of course this tune was in the Trainspotting 2 film and I don’t know a great deal about them but when I found out they were from Edinburgh or from Scotland I was blown-away.”

Rocket Hour airs on Monday night and will be repeated on Tuesday. Elton’s greatest hits album ‘Diamonds’ is out now.

Noel Gallagher: 'I Back Elton John On Ticket Prices'

Rock star Noel Gallagher has called on the government to "sort out" the secondary ticketing market.

He was speaking after Sir Elton John said he would "rather have empty seats" at a venue then see fans pay "extortionate" prices on sites that promise access to sold out shows.

"I'm with Elton," Gallagher told BBC Radio 5 live. "People shouldn't really pay over the odds, but they do."

"You get forged tickets on those things as well. It's a terrible thing"

The former Oasis star said that, as long as the re-sale of concert tickets was legal, "it's going to carry on".

"You need the government to sort it out," he added.

Last month, the government welcomed comments on secondary ticketing as part of a review of the market.

Among the artists to get involved were Coldplay, Radiohead and Blur, as well as the managers of One Direction and Ed Sheeran, who signed a joint letter campaigning against "the increasing industrial-scale abuse and insider exploitation of tickets for music, arts and sports events by ticket touts, and their online associates and facilitators."

"Tens of thousands of fans have been ripped off by people who exploit fair ticket prices via so-called ticket marketplaces," the letter added.

Alan McGee Is Not A Fan Of Aurora's Cover Of Oasis' 'Half The World Away'

Former Oasis manager Alan McGee has dismissed the cover version of the band's single 'Half The World Away', used on a John Lewis advert, as "rubbish".

Little-known Norwegian singer Aurora was picked to cover the 1994 B-side for the annual Christmas advertising campaign.

However, McGee is not impressed and told Gigwise that he hopes the retailer paid Noel Gallagher a substantial fee for the rights to the song. “I think it’s rubbish," McGee said. "I don’t know what anybody else thinks of it, though. I’m pleased for Noel that he got his royalties, I hope they gave him a million quid but I thought actually it was rubbish."

McGee went on to say that he's still good friends with Noel Gallagher and is still a fan of his music: "You know as much as me. I don’t really talk to him much about what he’s doing with music. I buy the records and I go to the concerts and I’m friends with him. I met him in London in a club, he was on great form. We were talking about our children."

Interest in the John Lewis adverts has grown in recent years with contemporary artists covering older material in a stripped-back fashion. Last year, Tom Odell recorded 'Real Love' by John Lennon, while Lily Allen's cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' was a hit in 2013.

The John Lewis advert cover-version trend took off in 2010 when Ellie Goulding's cover of 'Your Song' by Elton John hit Number One. However, the first John Lewis advert song came the year before with a folk cover of Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.

Oasis' 'Half The World Away' To Feature In John Lewis 2015 Christmas Advert?

Retailers John Lewis have declined to comment on reports that their Christmas 2015 advertising campaign will be soundtracked by an Oasis song.

Interest in the John Lewis adverts has increasingly grown in recent years with contemporary artists covering older material in a stripped-back fashion. Last year saw Tom Odell doing 'Real Love' by John Lennon while Lily Allen's cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' was a hit in 2013.

Marketing Magazine reports that Oasis song 'Half The World Away', better known as the theme tune to BBC comedy The Royle Family is "in the running" for this year's advert. The advertising campaign traditionally kicks off in early November, meaning any song choices would likely have been made by this point in October.

However, a spokesperson for John Lewis said that "a number [of tracks are] still under consideration", adding: "Speculation about every element of our Christmas advert happens every year. However, we can confirm that at this point in time, neither the track nor the artist have been confirmed."

The John Lewis advert trend took off in 2010 when Ellie Goulding's cover of 'Your Song' by Elton John hit Number One. However, the first John Lewis advert song came the year before with a folk cover of Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child Of Mine'.

Pharrell Williams Wants To Work With Noel And Liam Gallagher

Chart star Pharrell Williams has revealed that reuniting the feuding Gallaghers for a collaboration would make him Happy.

The singer and producer - who was guest vocalist on Daft Punk's Get Lucky - said teaming up with former Oasis stars Noel and Liam would be one of his dream projects.

The pair have not spoken since Noel stormed out of the group in 2009 following years of friction and he has his own solo career while Liam continued to work with his Oasis bandmates under the name Beady Eye.

Williams - who has worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Jay Z and Robin Thicke - said he wanted to bring them together.

"Who wouldn't want to work with the Gallaghers? Yeah, both of them," he said.

Williams - in the running for an Oscar for his track Happy from Despicable Me 2 - also longs to work with Sir Elton John who even inspired his own son Rocket's name with his 1970s hit Rocket Man.

"I really respect Elton John's music and I'd love to do something with him," he said.

"Contrary to popular belief, Rocket's middle name is not Man. But Elton John's Rocket Man song was a part of it and also Stevie Wonder's Rocket Love. But Elton would be really interesting.

"I would love to do a whole album with Stevie Wonder. That would be amazing. He doesn't need me, but it'd be amazing," Williams said.

The 40-year-old had a brief performance with Wonder at the Grammys last month as they played Get Lucky.

"We had a performance and I couldn't believe I was on stage (with him). I remember listening to all his songs for the first time in my grandmother's apartment, and then to be on stage in LA with Steve. That was like, 'Where am I? What's going on? Just don't wake me up'."

Williams, who is surprising a fan as part of Priceless Surprise campaign for MasterCard, said he was still pinching himself about his Oscar nomination, and his upcoming performance at the awards ceremony next month.

"I'm in disbelief. I can't believe that. All of this is an amazing moment and I just intend on showing the people my thanks," he said.

Noel Gallagher Features In A New Exhibition

Pop stars slathered in Marmite, semi-naked rock stars posing with haggis and celebrities being pelted with day-glow cupcakes.

Food, music and art come together in these stunning images by Patrice de Villiers.

The 'fearless and imaginative' photographer chose top musicians for her project. Described as 'the culinary world's most exciting photographer', de Villiers' previous projects include wrapping a Ford Mondeo in a pasta bow, creating gastro-porn for Marks & Spencer and still life images for brands like Selfridges or Harrods.

This exhibition, LoveMusicLoveFood, shows us a different side to saucy Juliette Lewis, fish and chips lover Sophie Ellis Bextor and Noel Gallagher, who is apparently fond of his Yorkshire tea with some shortbread.

The exhibition is taking place at the iconic restaurant and cocktail bar, Quaglino's, in the heart of Mayfair.

With rock star royalty throughout the years having visited from the Rolling Stones, Elton John and Michael Hutchence, the restaurant has become a legendary setting for emerging talents and settled artists. For the launch of this unique exhibition, which runs from the November 14 until February 1, the restaurant will serve a fun dessert and cocktail menu in a 'Symphony of Flavours' specially created for the occasion.

The restaurant will also be transformed by McQueens florist to match the edgy theme of the exhibition.

The photographs of the exhibition are taken from LoveMusicFood, The Rockstar Cookbook - a book raising funds and awareness for Teenage Cancer Trust - and are all available to purchase, with all profits going to the Trust.

Within the LoveMusicLoveFood project de Villiers worked alongside celebrated music journalist Andrew Harrison and Rock&Roll caterer to the stars, Sarah Muir, who created the recipes.

Noel Gallagher Confirms He Is Interested In Working With Damon Albarn

Former Oasis songwriter finally ready to collaborate with Blur frontman but denies Oasis will play Glastonbury 2014.

Noel Gallagher has said that he is "interested" in working with Damon Albarn but refuted claims Oasis will reform in 2014 and headline Glastonbury.

Gallagher spoke about his friendship with the Blur frontman, as well as the future of Oasis, while at this year's GQ Awards where he collected an Icon prize. He told The Sun that he is up for working with Albarn but there is no chance fans will see him back with brother Liam and Oasis next year.

The Sun reports Gallagher responded with a firm "no" when asked if Oasis were reuniting in 2014 and that he added there is no chance of the band playing Glastonbury. However, his friendship with Albarn may move in a musical direction with Gallagher adding: "I like Damon and would be interested in working in something."

As previously reported, Noel aimed a jibe at Foreign Secretary William Hague from the stage at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in London on Tuesday night (September 4). Appearing on stage to collect his Icon prize, Gallagher told the audience: "Welcome to the Tory party conference, by the way. Nice to see the Foreign Secretary here with all the shit going on in the world that he should be sorting out. Good for you."

Gallagher was presented with the Icon prize at last night's GQ Men Of The Year Awards, where other winners included Arctic Monkeys, Lou Reed, Elton John and The Who's Roger Daltrey.

No Oasis Or Rolling Stones - For The Queen's 12 Minutes Of British Pop

The Beatles and Blur make the cut but there’s no room for Oasis and the Rolling Stones. A 12-minute medley of British rock’s greatest achievements will be performed at Buckingham Palace after the Queen requested a potted history of Britpop.

A four-day festival, with a “Best of British” theme, opens to the public on Friday in Buckingham Palace's gardens, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.

The event will showcase British fashion, food, technological innovation and the arts. For the musical contribution, the Palace has chosen the chart-topping band The Feeling, to play a tightly-constructed medley featuring the most essential music of the Queen’s reign, which neatly encompasses the popular music era.

The Feeling, whose set list was approved “at the very heighest levels” by the Palace, have boiled down 60 years of artistic innovation and cultural reinvention into just seven songs.

The medley begins with The Beatles and revives the sonic crunch of The Kinks. It singles out the 70s rock operatics of The Who, the flamboyant showmanship of Queen with David Bowie and the artful state-of-the-nation addresses delivered by Pink Floyd and Blur.

There are unavoidable omissions, said Dan Gillespie Sells, frontman of The Feeling. “We had to leave out the Rolling Stones and we chose Blur over Oasis because they were the band who most influenced us,” he said. “We could have chosen from a million songs but we went for artists we liked and tried to cover all the bases inside 12 minutes. We didn’t want the medley to be too quickfire either, we restricted it to seven songs.”

The Queen was spared some controversial choices. “We couldn’t have the Sex Pistols’ God Save The Queen. I’d have liked to do an Elvis Costello song but it would have been too political,” said the singer.

“We had to send the set-list to the Palace for approval but that’s fair enough – the event is in her house.”

However some may wish to send The Feeling to the Tower for including their own hit, Love It When You Call as the climax of their Britpop history. “The palace asked us to include one of ours. It was the most played song on the radio so I think it’s fair enough,” explained Gillespie Sells.

The band debated whether Pink Floyd’s “We don’t need no education” lyric was appropriate for the Palace. “We wanted some Floyd but they don’t really do pop songs,” said Gillespie Sells. “This one clips along and helps with the pace of the medley.”

At least The Feeling, soon to release a new album called Boy Cried Wolf, did not use their valuable minutes to try out some new material. “We could have included a noughties song from Coldplay,” Gillespie Sells said. “But it’s a bit weird to cover a song by your contemporaries who are your friends.”

The Feeling will perform their medley each day during the festival and hope the Queen will attend one of the performances.

Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson, Katie Melua and Laura Wright will also perform at the festival of “innovation, excellence and industry”. Each day more than 6,000 ticket holders will attend the palace gardens which will be filled with more than 200 display stands exhibiting products and services.

Liam Gallagher On Getting Tickets To The Chelsea Flower Show

Liam Gallagher has been asked by the NME if the story he tried to get tickets to Chelsea Flower Show are true.

The singer said "Have I fuck. Why would I want to go to fucking Chelsea Flower Show? Apparently they rang up Pretty Green and asked them to design a gnome because Elton John, Rod Stewart and Ringo were doing one. Someone at Pretty Green went, 'Nah, that ain't fucking cool', but I actually think it's cool. I would've done one"

When asked what his gnome would look like? he said "It'd be a fucking rock'n'roll gnome man. It'd look like me. Nah, it'd look like our kid - same fucking size and everything."

Noel Gallagher Checks Out The Strypes In London

Former Oasis man was among the heaving crowd crammed into the Old Blue Last.

Noel Gallagher was among the crowd that crammed into London's Old Blue Last on Thursday (January 23) to watch The Strypes – you can watch fan shot footage of the gig below.

The gig by the Mercury-signed band, who come from Cavan in Ireland, saw such lengthy queues that the band swiftly added an additional set to avoid disappointing the legions of fans and industry that had thronged to see them.

The band, clad in smart mod suits and with singer Ross Farrelly sporting shades throughout, played energised takes on classic rock and R&B covers including Bo Diddley's 'You Can’t Judge A Book By It's Cover', T-Bone Walker's 'Call It Stormy Monday (But Tuesday Is Just As Bad)' and Muddy Waters' 'Mannish Boy'.

Gallagher is the latest in a string of celebrities to watch the hype-heavy band - once described as "One Direction in mod suits" on account of having only written two original songs - after Elton John caught them live in Brighton and Miles Kane attended another show.

All four members of The Strypes are aged between just 14 and 16 and they have appeared on Ireland's Late Late Show several times in the past year.

Oasis, The Beatles, Rihanna, Madonna And More Feature In The UK's Best Selling Singles Chart

The Beatles have held off artist such as Elvis Presley and Madonna to be declared the biggest selling UK singles act since charts began 60 years ago.

The Fab Four notched up 17 number ones during their relatively brief eight year chart domination, but split more than 40 years ago.

But performers whose careers have decades longer in some cases - such as Sir Cliff Richard - have failed to outsell them, a new Radio 2 chart reveals.

A countdown to be broadcast today of the all-time biggest sellers since the singles chart began in 1952 - the year the Queen took the throne - shows The Beatles are still unsurpassed.

Presley, who continued to have strong sales in the past decade thanks to a reissue campaign with tracks such as A Little Less Conversation, is ranked second.

Sir Cliff who has had 124 top 40 hits and 14 number ones finished in third place in the list compiled by the Official Charts Company.

Madonna, who has made the top 40 more than 60 times, is ranked fourth.

There are some surprising entries with Rihanna, who charted for the first time in only 2005 is in tenth place, yet The Rolling Stones - who racked up their first hit in 1963 - make it to only number 13. However, although the wrinkly rockers have continued to release singles over the years, they have failed to dent the top ten since 1981.

Tony Blackburn will count down the chart from 2pm to 5pm which shows US rapper Eminem (placed 18th) is ahead of enduring chart stars such as Sir Tom Jones and U2.

DJ and producer David Guetta (ranked 49) manages to finish ahead of big names such as Coldplay (60) and Duran Duran (51).

Sir Paul McCartney is listed twice for his Beatles years and his solo career (number 11), and George Michael is similarly in the chart twice, for his own hits (21) and as a member of Wham! (43).

Blackburn, who will play each artist's biggest hit in the Bank Holiday show , said: "This chart offers a fascinating look at the past 60 years in music and shows the impact that modern stars like Rihanna and Katy Perry have had.

"The list is really varied and will provide something for everyone. There are definitely a few surprises in store - Coldplay being at 60 for one! It is sure to be an interesting listen and will be a great way to spend the Bank Holiday afternoon."

Radio 2's head of music Jeff Smith said: "This list is intriguing, Adele is missing and we've all forgotten just how huge artists such as Shakin' Stevens, Boney M and UB40 were in the UK in the Seventies and Eighties."

Noel Gallagher To Play At Oldham Athletic’s Boundary Park?

As global stars they are used to performing in front of sell-out crowds at some of the world’s top arenas. But big names such as Rod Stewart, Elton John and Noel Gallagher could be set to take the stage this summer at a rather less-heralded setting – Oldham Athletic’s Boundary Park.

Latics officials say they want to put on a summer concert at the dilapidated, three-sided ground.

And they claim no less than 15 acts, including Rod the Mod, the Rocketman and former Oasis star Noel have been put forward by a production company.

Now they are asking fans to vote for who they want to see rock the 106-year-old venue at the foot of the Pennines.

Oldham marketing boss Jenny Warburton insisted the poll was not a gimmick.

She said: “I know somebody who works for a production company and he was asking me if we could do something. I told him about the ground and he seemed excited. A crew came up from London and were really impressed. We only have three stands and they think that’s great because they can put the stage in front of the one that’s not there.

“There’s also a big car park behind it where they can put marquees and things. It all works and if we could sell it out it would make quite a bit of money.” Jenny said 15 acts had been offered but her own favourite was unavailable. She explained: “I really wanted Michael Bublé but he said he wasn’t doing any outdoor gigs this year and I was devastated.”

Elton John: Oasis Were ‘Stupid Sods'

Elton John has taken a huge swipe at Oasis for failing to crack America.

The legend has called Noel and Liam Gallagher "stupid sods" for cancelling a series of gigs in the US in the mid-Nineties.

He said: "They were enormous in Britain, they were enormous in America and they went over there and argued between themselves and cancelled the tour and they never broke America.

"You only get it once, and if you blow it, it's gone. You can't not regret that.

"I always thought, 'You stupid sods. You'll never get that opportunity again'."

Just for good measure, Elton then stuck the boot in further by saying he reckons the Gallagher brothers are only children compared to the members of Coldplay and Muse.

Speaking to Absolute Radio's Christian O'Connell he said: "It's only the cream that rises to the top. It's always the ones with the best work ethic and the best material and the best attitude.

"You know, it's the boys from the men. Coldplay, Muse, U2, Police, all those bands. They're the men, and all the rest are boys."

Don't mince your words, mate.

Liam was definitely playing the big kid as he mucked about pulling faces at Primal Scream's almighty post gig tear-up in London on Saturday at W Hotel's Wyld Bar.

He joined the likes of Kate Moss and fashion's Philip Treacy as the band celebrated performing their classic 1991 album Screamadelica at London Olympia.

Liam's got form for being lippy - and it doesn't look like he's about to change his ways any time soon...
