Noel Gallagher: 'Liam's Better Off Without Me'

So, we've just been chatting with Noel Gallagher at his press conference in West London (where he's just announced he's releasing not one, but two, new albums – more of that in a minute) and he's very humbly admitted that he thinks Liam is better off without him.

"He's probably better off without me because he's in charge now," Noel laughed. "But it remains to be seen whether I'm better without him. I've never really seen myself as a frontman."

But with Liam currently gigging with Beady Eye, we're quite interested to see just how Noel will do on his own – and whether he can step up to being a frontman. His debut solo LP is called High Flying Birds and will be out on 17 October, and the next one (not yet named) is out next year. Plus, Noel says he'll be gigging straight after the first album comes out (he also promises he'll do some Oasis songs, saying, "I'll never do a gig without playing them, they're like drugs to me").

Talking of why the boys are no longer pals and why Oasis are no more, Noel revealed how, on his last night in the band, Liam threw a plum across the room before things came to a head and they both walked out. "If only it ended there, a plum throwing a plum," he joked.

"It took me 18 years, but I f***ing mastered being that guy standing on the right playing the guitar. But he [Liam] doesn't like me. And there's no point being in a band where you don't get on," he explained.

So, are you excited about seeing what Noel has to offer? Should he (and Liam) have stuck to the Oasis stuff? Or are they both just past it and should give it up now? Do tell.

PS Noel cracked loads of jokes and made us laugh at least 16 times in half an hour. He's not as 'ard as he makes out. Fact.

Noel Gallagher Admits He Could Struggle Without Liam

Noel Gallagher has offered a characteristically honest assessment of his impeding solo future without younger brother Liam, admitting life as a frontman will be a tough challenge.

Speaking at today’s London press conference, where he unveiled debut solo album ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds‘ and a new backing band of the same name, Gallagher was asked whether he is better off without Liam and, according to the Daily Telegraph‘s Neil McCormick’s Twitter, replied:

“Probably not. I’ve never seen myself as a frontman and can see it being a right pain in the arse.”

After outlining some regrets regarding the circumstances of Oasis‘ demise, Noel also claimed Liam will be better off without him as he is now ‘in charge’, but hinted he is not much of a fan of Beady Eye, the band formed by Liam and Noel’s ex-Oasis bandmates Gem Archer and Andy Bell. “Out of respect for the friends I’ve still got in the band, I’d rather not say – it’s alright,” he is quoted as saying.

‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ will be released on October 17th, with a second album recorded with Amorphous Androgynous due to follow next year.

Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has just announced details of his first album since the split with brother Liam in 2009. Noel Gallagher And The High Flying Birds will release a self-titled album on October 17th - the first of two albums already in the can, according to the guitarist, who is speaking at a press conference in London.

The albums were recorded in London and LA. Very interestingly as far as we're concerned, the second LP is a collaboration with the deeply cosmic Amorphous Androgynous.

Musicians on the record include drummer Jeremy Stacey, keyboard player Mikey Rowe, Becky Byrne, pedal steel guitarist Jon Graboff, Portuguese percussionist Luis Jardim and American percussionist Lenny Castro. Further details shortly.

Liam Gallagher Prepared For Noel's 'Party Political Broadcast'

Liam Gallagher is prepared for his brother Noel's "party political broadcast" today (06.07.11).

The Beady Eye frontman couldn't resist taking a swipe at his former Oasis bandmate - who has called a press conference this morning, where he is expected to announce the details of his debut solo album - as his band performed at the iTunes Festival in London last night (05.07.11).

As Beady Eye prepared to launch into their track 'Bring The Light', Liam told the crowd: "Are you ready for the party political broadcast tomorrow? Are you? Well we like rock 'n' roll."

Beady Eye features four of the five members of Oasis when they disbanded in 2009, with Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock joining Liam.

The band refuse to play any Oasis songs live and Liam has claimed his split with Noel - which caused the breakup of Oasis - is final and he doesn't feel the guitarist will be as successful without him.

He said: "The people that go, 'Oh, Beady Eye is not Oasis,' well, I'll tell you what - you wait until you hear Noel's music because that ain't gonna be Oasis either. It might remind you of it but there'll be something missing. And what'll be missing is f**king me."

"I had a great time singing Oasis songs, without a doubt. But I think Oasis is beatable, man. With Oasis we did experiment but Noel was holding back the reins a bit."

At their iTunes show, Beady Eye played tracks from their debut album 'Differnt Gear, Still Speeding', including 'Millionaire' and 'Wigwam', ending their set with their cover version of Word of Twist's 'Sons of the Stage'.
