Noel Gallagher: Lady Gaga Hasn't Given Weirdos Any Decent Music

The former Oasis guitarist and songwriter is famed for his rants about other acts, with Blur, Robbie Williams, Scissor Sisters, Keane and Jack White among those on the receiving end of his volleys of disdain.

His latest target is Lady Gaga, despite his 11-year-old daughter being a big fan of the Bad Romance singer.

Noel told Q magazine: 'It's all about the meat suit and the controversy. Is it about the music? Really? She's got the publicity side sorted out, but where's the f****** music?

'Paparazzi? It's Madonna lite. Madonna was hardcore. She took it to the edge musically as well as everything else.

'Twenty years from now, will we listen to Lady Gaga? No. She might think she is making a stand for the freaks and the weirdos but they're not going to have any decent f****** music to play are they?'

Q Magazine's 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' Album Review

Noel Gallagher High Flying Birds has been given four stars out of five in the new issue of the magazine, a scan of the review can be found here.

There are 25 different covers of the new issue of Q one is Liam, one Kasabian, one Paul Weller. Noel vs. Liam is No.1 in the "top scraps" feature.

- The 'download' section has Everybody's On The Run, If I Had A Gun (part of the best 50 tracks of the month) and Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks.

- Dream On has a fist-in-the-air chant of "shout it out for me"

- Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks is wistful and strident. Anti-war and anti-religion - soliders "go to heaven on their holidays" and preachers "twist the words of way back when".

- Everybody's On the Run is full of drama and emotion, but not better than If I Had A Gun.

- Record Machine and Stop The Clocks are great, but not much different than the demos and sound the most Oasis-like songs.

Thanks to takemethere95 for the original upload and information.

Liam Gallagher On Oasis, Football And More

Interview excerpts from 11freunde.de

Liam Gallagher on ....

… the Oasis split and parallels between football and music

The band or the team is the most important thing. Don’t care about the managers and other things, people come and go, but what stays is the team and the crowd. It’s like the Oasis split up. Noel’s gone but it’s the same with a football player. If you fucking wanna move on, then move on. But we go on as a team. No one is ever bigger than the club or the band.

… his brother Noel

He was just a defender. I’m on the wing, coming in. A bit like Arjen Robben. I get the ball and fucking run. Not even kicking it, I’m running with the ball into the net.
… the English national team

I am not that patriotic. If they won the World Cup, that would be great. But that's not what's going to happen. It is not going with that Italian guy. He should go. We need someone who speaks English. It is an English team and we need someone who is going to the line and shout: “You fucking cunt, what are you doing there?” Harry Redknapp would be the man, he’d be mega, he’d be proper.

… City and the money

I don’t care if people in fucking Düsseldorf or Frankfurt don’t like City right now. It doesn’t interest me one bit – you need money to buy good players. If you have no money, the players won’t come to City. Even if the Premier League has been ruined by money, fucking get over it. That’s the way it is.
The Arabs came and gave us some money. They are not in debt. I have never met an Arab who is in debt, have you?

… the FA Cup last season
It was the greatest moment for me as a City supporter – without a doubt. It was the first time we won anything. Mega. What I really enjoyed, was beating United in the semi-final. Both of my balls were buzzing. In the end we were the last ones out – we tried to leave but everything was locked.
… the Poznan dance

It’s great. I do it everywhere. In the morning when I get up and when I am having a shower, then I do the Poznan dance. Last time we played in Belfast and the crowd was doing the Poznan – brilliant.
… Balotelli

He has attitude. Right now footballers are just a bit too professional. They are all like Coldplay. You need exciting players, the ones who are a bit bonkers. Balotelli is crazy, but he is young. I think, when the penny drops, he will be a mega-player.

… Footballers in general

In England the players normally listen to Rap. To be quite honest, footballers are not cool, they are idiots or the majority of them are. 90 percent of the footballers are absolute fucking cocks. They listen to fucking Black Eyed Peas. And the clothes they wear – ridiculous.

Noel Gallagher Says Celebrities Have Wrecked Twitter

The 'AKA… What A Life!' singer isn't a fan of the micro-blogging site personally but he thought the concept was a good idea until he saw so many famous faces take to it and "bastardise" it for their own gain.

In a web interview with Yahoo!, he said: "I'm not a tweeter … Stuff like, 'Oh I'm going for a shower,' great. 'I slept in again, bugger.' Life's too short for that kind of thing but I think those things like Facebook and twitter and stuff were started with the best of intentions to connect ordinary people around the world, like daughters travelling in Europe can tweet their mums. But as with everything celebrities get involved and bastardise it, trying to sell you their s**t. There's too much of that. Anything that's of any use famous people get hold of it and take it for themselves and it gets a bad rap. I'm like sitting here and thinking I hate twitter and I don't know why."

The former Oasis guitarist also believes the internet has destroyed the "magic and mystery" of musicians.

Noel – who admits he only got his first computer "at Christmas" – thinks it was better when fans knew less about their idols because it made their new albums more exciting.

The rock star – who is releasing his record 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' on October 17 - said: "I don't think people need to know what colour socks I'm wearing today, I don't think people need to know what shower gel I'm using. There's too much information in the world and there's no magic or mystery anymore. That's why I didn't announce I was in the studio making this album until 18 months down the line. Because it would be like, 'Yeah man I'm in the studio and today I recorded a song in my socks! And it was great man and it might turn out to be a disco song.' What's the point?' I was obsessed with the Smiths and there was none of that going on. You just waited and wondered what they were up to and then the album would come out in four weeks and it was like, 'Wow!' "

Noel Gallagher Doesn't Want Beady Eye Album Battle

Noel Gallagher hopes there isn't an album battle between him and his brother Liam's band Beady Eye, but admits he has no control over the comparisons and criticisms that will be made between his debut solo LP and theirs.

Noel Gallagher says Beady Eye won't be able to cope if an "album face-off" occurs between him and the band.

The musician releases his debut solo LP, 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds', next month and he insists he isn't interested in whether or not it sells more copies than his brother Liam's group - which he formed with the other ex-Oasis members, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, after Noel quit the group in August 2009.

However, the 'AKA...What A Life!' singer expects people to compare the record to Beady Eye's debut 'Different Gear, Still Speeding', something he thinks some members will have a problem with.

In a web interview with Yahoo.com, he said: "I don't care, but the nature in which we live with the internet and all that, the people out there are going to do that anyway. You know Beady Eye were compared to me before I'd even had a record out so that's just the nature of it.

"If my record sells more than theirs it doesn't mean my record is better than theirs, music is all about the perception of the listener, it doesn't really matter. I hope it doesn't get like that 'cause I kind handle that kind of thing' you know? But there's people in Beady Eye who can't be cool about it and not get drawn into stuff so I hope there's isn't some kind of album face-off but there's nothing I can do about it."

Noel is also ready for Liam's appraisal of his solo album - which is released on October 17 - and expects he and the world will hear what the volatile frontman has to say very soon after he's heard it.

The rock star - who hasn't spoken to his sibling since Oasis split - added: "I know Liam has heard 'The Death of You and Me' because he tweeted about it. As soon as hears the album the world will know exactly what he feels about it. I don't think he'll leave anybody in any doubt what he thinks."

"Little By Little" is a song by British rock band Oasis, first released as the sixth track on their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry. On September 23rd 2002, it was released with "She Is Love" as the first (and, so far, only) double A-sided single by the band, peaking at #2 in the UK Singles Chart Noel Gallagher provides lead vocals on both tracks, which he also wrote.

"Little By Little" was perhaps the most controversial song on the album, receiving mixed reviews from those who felt it was a classic example of an upbeat Oasis anthem and those who felt it was a twee, patronising, sycophantic melody. Regardless of this, the song managed to peak at number two in the UK charts based largely on the publicity garnered by the song.

The promo video to the song featured a guest role by Robert Carlyle. The cover art for the single is an homage to Robert Indiana's LOVE artwork.

She Is Love

"She Is Love" is a song by British rock band Oasis, first released as the ninth track on their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry. In September 2002, it was released with "Little by Little" as the first double A-sided single by the band, peaking at #2 in the UK Singles Chart. The song was written about Noel Gallagher's girlfriend Sara McDonald and is a light, acoustic song about being in love.

Gallagher claims it was written in the Buckingham Gate Hotel in London, and that it took 30 minutes to complete. The band commissioned British fashion art director Rachel Thomas to make a promo video for the song. However, the resulting film, a mix of animation and live action, has never been released on any format.

Noel Gallagher Worried His Live Shows Will Be Dull

Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher fears casual fans will be far from impressed when they come to see him live on tour - because he's not a showman.

The guitarist has gone solo after splitting from Oasis in 2009 and he's worried he hasn't got enough onstage "moves" to thrill fans.

He tells SPINNER.COM, "I've toyed with the idea of taking up juggling, just so it would be interesting for the crowd. I've got nothing to say.

"When people come to the gigs, I hope they just listen to the songs. There'll be no audience participation. None of that, 'Can you sing louder than those over there? I bet you can't!' None of that s**t. But I've got to learn how to do it in front of a paying crowd. They'll expect some kind of show."

Noel Gallagher Talks Liam, Twitter Feuds, Channeling Elvis, And Stagefright In Solo Interview

Noel Gallagher has a perhaps not entirely undeserved reputation for being a surly fellow and difficult interview--a rep surely only compounded by his former band Oasis's acrimonious breakup, after he and his famously feuding little brother Liam brawled backstage at Paris's Rock en Seine festival in 2009. But when the Britpop icon recently came by Yahoo! Music, he couldn't have been more pleasant. "It's not so bad doing interviews, innit?" the affable chap shrugged. "They fly you to Los Angeles first-class, you stay in nice hotels, and you go talk about yourself! What's not to like?"

Clearly going solo agrees with the man. The longtime songwriter for Oasis but only occasionally that band's singer, Noel is now going the full-fledged singer-songwriter route with his upcoming and much-awaited solo debut, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, and it's a welcome return to fine form after his two-year hiatus. "I've gotta do something," he laughed. "My wife demanded that I go make a record because I was annoying her: 'When are you going back to work?'"

Well, thank you very much, Mrs. Gallagher, for getting your husband back in the studio. Noel's new album features some of his best work in ages, and--let's just get the inevitable comparison out of the way here--it is far superior to the first album by Liam's new post-Oasis band, Beady Eye. Going it alone seems to be the right decision for Noel right now, despite his occasional misgivings and the public's never-ending demands for an Oasis reunion.

"Regret is maybe too strong a word, because really in hindsight it couldn't have gone on the way it did; there was just too much bad vibes," Noel said of that fateful night in Paris when Oasis disbanded for good. "At first I thought, 'Maybe I've been a bit hasty here,' because we only had two gigs left on the tour; maybe we could have done the two gigs, gone away, got a bit of distance from it, and things might have been different. But then you know, I started in the studio and I enjoyed it, so I don't miss [Oasis] too much."

Speaking about that night when Noel walked away from Oasis for good, after crying wolf many times over their tumultuous decade-and-a-half run, Noel was surprisingly frank. "I'd liken to it when you know when you're about to dump a girl. I don't know what made it any different. We'd had worse fights, worse arguments. I dunno, maybe I just sat there and I thought, 'This has gone on too long.' I can't remember what exactly I was thinking, but it's like, why do people change jobs? You just sit there one day and you think, 'I didn't feel like this yesterday, but I feel like it now. I'm off.'"

Unlike Liam, who later regrouped with ex-Oasis members under the name Beady Eye, Noel decided not to form a new band, and with good reason: "Once you've been in a band like [Oasis], you can't go anywhere with it. You can't start another band and say, 'This time it's gonna be different! We're gonna be less successful!' There's no point in doing that...I've already been in one of the best bands ever, so there's no need to do that."

Showing a surprisingly and rarely seen humble aspect of his outsized persona, Noel expressed some fear about hitting the road without his longtime band. "The live side, even in rehearsals, it was really strange," he confessed. "It's not really gonna hit me until I get onstage, because I haven't got the genetic makeup of a frontman. I haven't got anything to say, I haven't got any new moves, I don't know any jokes. I've just got songs. Frontmen come alive when they come onstage. I've got to wait and see what happens. I'm a bit...I wouldn't say I'm nervous, but I'm trepidatious, if indeed that is a word. I'm not a natural frontman as of yet. But then again, my inner Elvis might take over when I hit the stage!"

However, Oasis fans needn't worry: Noel confirmed to Yahoo! that he and his inner Elvis will be playing a few classic Oasis tunes when he tours this fall. "I don't really consider them anymore to be Oasis songs. They're my songs, I wrote them," he explained. "It's not like I'm Morrissey and I'm taking half of what Johnny Marr done and kind of running away with it, or vice versa. I wrote those songs and all the words and all the melodies and I arranged them all, so they're mine. The end. To save the constant shouting for 'Don't Look Back In Anger,' it's easier just to do it. And I think my new songs are strong enough that they'll stand up alongside the old songs."

He's definitely right about that. Noel's excellent album comes out in October, but you can hear all about it now from the man himself, in this exclusive two-part interview, along with some hilarious chatter about why he won't go on Twitter, how a band called You And Me At Six outed him when he was recording in secret, his upcoming psychedelic side-project with Amorphous Androgynous, what he really thinks of Beady Eye, and whether or not he thinks he is an "icon."

Liam Gallagher Celebrates His Birthday By Sending Tim Burgess A Pretty Green Present

Could rocker Liam Gallagher be the most benevolent birthday boy going?

For it seems that to celebrate his 39th birthday yesterday, the Burnage boy was the one sending out the presents - to rocker pal Tim Burgess of The Charlatans at least.

Tim revealed on his Twitter site that he “felt a bit guilty” after Liam sent HIM a gift from his own Pretty Green fashion collection despite the ex-Oasis frontman being the birthday boy.

Charlatans frontman Tim tweeted: “Kind of feel a bit guilty, I got sent an ace Pretty Green jacket on Liam’s birthday. Like a reverse birthday present.”

Tim then vowed: “I’ll send a cake.”

Noel Gallagher Interview In Next Week's NME Magazine

Next week's NME will feature a new interview with Noel Gallagher, ahead of his new album.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Stand by Me" is a song by British rock group Oasis, written by lead guitarist, Noel Gallagher. It was the second single to be released from the band's third album, Be Here Now, and peaked at number 2 in the UK charts in September 1997. It was kept from the top-spot by the record breaking Elton John single "Candle in the Wind 1997," re-recorded and released in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, who had died three weeks before the release of "Stand by Me". Despite this, "Stand By Me" still went Gold in the UK. "Stand by Me" was acknowledged as one of the stand-out tracks from Be Here Now.

Interview

In a 1997 interview promoting Be Here Now, Noel Gallagher had the following to say: "It starts, 'Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday'. When I first moved to London my mam kept on ringing up and asking was I eating properly. Yes, Mam. So I tried to cook a Sunday roast and puked up for two days with food poisoning. It was back to Pot Noodles after that. It's a bit like "Live Forever", I suppose, with a touch of "All the Young Dudes" in the background -- though I made sure I changed the chords."

Live Performances

Due to Noel Gallagher's general dislike of Be Here Now, "Stand by Me" is rarely played live by the band at their concerts, as it is Noel who usually decides the song listings for Oasis' tours. A live version of the song from this tour can be found on the double-CD version of Familiar to Millions.

A well-known acoustic version of "Stand by Me" was shown on television the night before the release of Be Here Now as part of a BBC1 documentary, featuring Noel, Liam Gallagher and drummer Alan White sitting by the side of a swimming pool, with Liam on vocals, Noel on acoustic guitar and White holding a tambourine.

Writing

Noel Gallagher claims to have written the song whilst suffering from food poisoning when he first moved to London. His mother Peggy would phone him to check on him and repeatedly told him to ensure he was eating properly. This spurred Gallagher to cook himself a proper English Sunday dinner, which resulted in a bout of food poisoning. Gallagher claims that the song's first line—"Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday/I've got a lot of things to learn"—came to him as he lay on the floor and it was then that he began to pen the lyrics to the song.

The title for the song probably comes from the song "Stand By Me", which was covered by the Gallaghers' idol John Lennon. In a characteristic example of Noel Gallagher lifting elements from songs of which he is fond, the rousing sequence of chord changes between the repeated chorus lyrics 'Stand by me/Nobody knows the way it's gonna be' bears a remarkable similarity to a similar chord sequence in Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes", written by David Bowie.

Video

The video for the song was a reworking of a famous series of adverts for The Guardian newspaper. Entitled The Whole Picture, the adverts showed people appearing to be engaging in criminal and/or anti-social acts—only to revealed that they are actually helping someone else. For example, a scruffily-dressed skinhead rushes at a businessman; it appears he is making an effort to mug him; only the "whole picture" reveals that he is fact dashing to push him away from a load of falling bricks. Similarly in the video for "Stand By Me", a shop appears to be being burgled - its window smashed and people taking away electrical goods—only for it to be revealed that in fact the victim of a motorcycle crash has gone through the window and is buried under the televisions.

"My Sister Lover" - Some fans believe the title to be a reference to the band Sister Lovers, a group that invited Oasis to a May 1993 gig at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, Scotland, where they were spotted by Creation Records chief Alan McGee, who reportedly offered Oasis a recording contract on the spot after the gig.

"Going Nowhere" - apparently Noel's attempt at a Burt Bacharach style song - can be found on The Masterplan, a collection of Oasis B-sides. It is one of only two B-sides from the Be Here Now era to be included on the album. Although it was not released until 1997, the song was written in 1990, before Noel even joined Oasis, let alone before they were signed.
