Noel Gallagher On If I Had A Gun

Noel Gallagher has told the current issue of the NME his thoughts on each track from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds debut album.

This is what Noel had to say about the third track 'If I Had A Gun'.

"It's been bumped as a single twice now! That was gonna be the first thing that anybody heard. I was thinking, 'People are just gonna go, 'It's great -but it sounds like Oasis." It was literally on the day we were gonna shoot the video, and we just went, Fuck it, let's change it.' Then I changed my mind again, when it was the second single, two days before it came out. It was one that came out on the internet from a soundcheck. But I only heard it a few years after, and I was quite impressed that I had pretty much nailed the arrangement. I didn't have the words fully formed, but I knew instantly, 'That's gonna be great when it's finished.' It's kind of up there as one of the big ones that I've done."

Noel Gallagher On Dream On

Noel Gallagher has told the current issue of the NME his thoughts on each track from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds debut album.

This is what Noel had to say about the second track 'Dream On'.

"This particular track was written just at the end of the 'Dig Out Your Soul' sessions in 2008. It was the last week of mixing the album, and me and Gem did a little demo of this song. I think it might have been because Liam had fuc*ed off home and didn't tell anybody - we were in the studio like 'f*cking hell, what are we going to do?' It's a bit of a throwaway... It's nonsense, the words don't mean anything. But it's got a great 'She's Electric', 'Digsy's Dinner'-esque quality to it. Someone somewhere will go 'Everybody's On The Run' is alright, 'If I Had A Gun' that's good, but fu*king 'Dream On' what a tune.

Noel Gallagher On Everbody's On The Run

Noel Gallagher has told the current issue of the NME his thoughts on each track from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds debut album.

This is what Noel had to say about the albums opener 'Everybody's On The Run'.

"It was always going to be the opener on the album. It's the kind of track that people would end a record on, but I've got three of those songs in 'Everybody's On The Run', 'Stop The Clocks' and 'Record Machine'. So I was forced to split them up, and I thought this would be a great way to kick off, that's like putting your fu*king cards on the table and saying 'This is going to be a fu*king album'. The whole album has got the narrative of escape, hope and love, and it sets the album up as somebody saying 'I've gotta get out of this situation, or out of this town, or out of this city.' When I was doing the strings, I said to the girl who does my string arrangements: 'I want it to sound like Ennio Morricone, and all the string players had to be women,' and she thought I was a bit of a perv. I was like 'No, no, they play strings a lot sexier than men.' She said it doesn't make any difference, but I said, 'I need to fuc*king know it's women playing it' So we did the strings and choir the first night at Abbey Road, which was a bit of a moment."

Noel Gallagher Has His Say Over X Factor

Noel Gallagher has described this year's X Factor bands as "f**king appalling".

The former Oasis star said that the groups - who will be mentored by N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos - are the worst category of the series.

Gallagher told Digital Spy: "I watched this series for the first time this weekend. I'm usually quite good at picking who is going to go through, and I think I managed to pick them all correctly this time.

"The groups are f**king appalling; they really are f**king dreadful!"

The singer-songwriter continued: "The over 50s or 25s category are f**king sh**te too. It's only a TV show, though, and the whole thing is more like a soap opera with all their back stories and that carry-on.

"The live shows are when it's at its best and it's great Saturday night TV, especially when you've got an 11-year-old daughter. That show is her life!"

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Album: First Listen

Since departing Oasis in the summer of '09, alt rock fans across the globe have been anticipating the next move of the band's lead songwriter Noel Gallagher.

While most column inches about the guitarist are currently dedicated to his ongoing feud with brother Liam and his outlandish remarks about rock 'n' roll or Lady GaGa, most press would still agree that hype surrounding Gallagher's new solo material is rarely overshadowed.

As you can imagine then, we were more than a little excited when we at Digital Spy were sent an advance copy of said LP last week. Read our first impressions of the tracks below:

'Everybody's On The Run'
"Hang in there love/ You've got to hold on," Noel belts with stadium-rousing gusto over swooping string sections and toe-tapping guitar hooks. The track delivers a dramatic opening to the record and is certainly a festival-ready set opener.

'Dream On'
Pounding beats and heavy guitar strums initially serve as a reminder of Oasis's 2005 album Don't Believe The Truth; reinforced all-the-more by chant's of "Dream On/ Shout it out for me" that wouldn't sound out of place on the terraces of football grounds. Better still, by the song's end we are treated to a jamboree of jazz piano and blues-driven brass.

'If I Had A Gun...'
Definitely the most Oasis-sounding track on the album and currently slated as the record's third single. 'If I Had A Gun...' is a gooey love song with 'Wonderwall'-inspired riffs and a raw, breezy vocal.

'The Death Of You And Me'
You'll already know this one, but the quirky mix of circus-inspired organs and whizzing rattles as Noel sings of escaping his demons sounds as fresh as it did upon its release this summer.

'(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine'
The track starts off as a hazy Britpop number with light guitars and hollow beats, but by the middle eight a whirlpool of rattling cymbals and light thuds give way to a mesmerising electric guitar solo that will easily blow the roof off any live venue.

'AKA... What A Life'
Already available to download as NG's second solo single, 'AKA... What A Life' is a reflective number with toe-tapping beats, grungy disco-riffs and Hacienda-inspired piano tinkles. "I'm going to take that tiger outside for a ride" easily remains the best line in the song.

'Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks'
Gallagher's political lyricism is given an injection of humour by the track's romp'n'pomp bassline and sassy trumpet solo that conjures up imagery of the village green he takes aim at in the song. There's a distinct whiff of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper with this one.

'AKA... Broken Arrow'
AKA part two continues to use Spanish-inspired guitar riffs and rumba-styled tom-toms as a backdrop to Gallagher's wistful oohs and poignant lyrics: "She's a siren and I'm a warning," he laments.

'(Stranded On) The Wrong Beach'
"Falling, I'll see you on the way down/ I'll meet you on the rebound/ Somewhere in between," Noel promises over raspy bass and a traditional soft-rock double-clap beat. By the end of the song he asks, "come and rescue me," as waves crash on the shore.

'Stop The Clocks'
Originally an Oasis demo that later leaked online, Noel's version of the track now ten years in the making continues the airy vocal but works in a gentle electronic keyboard riff. After the 2m44s mark a crescendo of crashing cymbals and an impressive guitar solo seals this song's fate as an epic anthem.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will be released in the UK on October 17 and the US on November 8.

Noel Gallagher Would Have Liked To Have Met Kurt Cobain

He loves his music...

Noel Gallagher says he would have liked to meet Kurt Cobain before he died.

He said: "I wish I'd met Kurt Cobain. I always had an affinity with him. He was left-handed, blue-eyed, a Gemini, loved The Beatles like me. I would have loved to have shot the fucking shit with him. I asked Mark Coyle who co-produced 'Definitely Maybe' who was doing sound monitors for Teenage Fanclub when they went on tour with Nirvana what he was like and he said: 'He's fucking crazy but you'd like him.'"

He also praised Nevermind, adding: "All the great albums get greater with time. They never date. If you listen to 'Nevermind' it still sounds like the future of rock."

Jason Donovan Claims Noel Gallagher Asked Him For Autograph

Jason Donovan has claimed Noel Gallagher is a closet member of his fan club.

The former Oasis rocker has been telling an anecdote about how he once met the Neighbours star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant by mistake when he mistook him for his driver.

But Jason has told Heart FM that Noel was pleased to see him and took the opportunity to get his autograph.

Noel recently told Australian radio station Triple M: "I was out one night doing late night shopping. I was with my roadie in a black Range Rover, his name is Jason, and he went to park the Range Rover in a car park.

"He was coming to meet me outside the shops, so I'm waiting outside the car park and out pulls this black Range Rover that I think is my roadie, Jason. He drives straight past so I shout, 'Jason, what the f*** are you doing?' and this black car pulls up and it was Jason Donovan.

"He wound the window down and went, 'G'day mate how's it goin? Are you alright?' About 10 seconds later my Jason pulled up behind him in an identical car.
"I was thinking, 'Did he think I'd just stood on the street going there's Jason Donovan?' Not cool."

But Jason has retorted: "Noel was very confused when I stopped. "Now he is making out he didn't know it was me. If that's true, then why did he ask for my autograph. Hmmm..."
