Noel Gallagher

Noel Gallagher’s management team has said that the singer is not tempted to return to working with major record labels after celebrating his first solo number one album with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
Speaking about the singer’s decision to enlist the help of EMI’s Label Services Europe for distribution and promotion surrounding the release, Ignition Management partner Alex McKinlay said that Gallagher, who has released records through his own labels for the past 11 years, first with Big Brother and then with Sour Mash, had outgrown the traditional record label model – adding that the company was also a powerful solution for artists who no longer fitted within the traditional ‘hit-driven’ label system.
“Working with Label Services and our international partners on this record has been a great success and the results so far speak for themselves,” said McKinlay. “We’ve proved that this model works with major releases as well as with more niche releases.”

It's the afternoon in Los Angeles and Noel Gallagher is a world away from his former life. It's almost two years to the day since the night in Paris when a backstage fight between Gallagher and his younger brother, Liam, ended one of Britain's biggest bands, Oasis.
For Gallagher the elder, time has flown since the messy-yet-inevitable implosion of the Mancurian band that sold more than 70 million albums.
''Someone said that to me today and I was flabbergasted that it was only two years; it feels a lot longer,'' he says. ''I've done so much in those two years. I've left the band, got married [in June, to long-time partner Sara MacDonald], had another baby [he now has two sons with MacDonald], made two albums, moved house. What else have I done? Had my hair cut short.''
Gallagher is in LA filming another video, the third, for his new musical project, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. In July, he held a press conference to announce the band and its self-titled album.
Gallagher started recording on the night of last year's Brit Awards. ''My missus decided I was spending too much time at home and … are you married? Explain this to me. It's like, you know, it was always 'You never spend enough time at home'. And then when you do, what happens then? It's like, 'When are you going back to work?'''
On its October 17 release, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds made its debut at No.1 on the British charts, which would have no doubt pleased Gallagher the elder and peeved Gallagher the younger; the debut album from Liam's new band, Beady Eye (which features the rest of Oasis), only came in at No.3.
The initial six-date High Flying Birds tour sold out before the album's release. It opened in Dublin on October 23 and finished on Monday at the Roundhouse in London to glowing reviews - unlike the album, which, despite boasting plenty of Gallagher's trademark big-chorus songs, has received mixed responses.
Much to the delight of Oasis fans, however, the live sets have been peppered with a healthy dose of Oasis numbers - ''I wrote the songs, I'll play them,'' Gallagher says simply.
In his far-ranging press conference in July, Gallagher admitted regret at breaking up Oasis when he did but has gone on to distance himself further from the band. Liam sued his brother in early August after Noel claimed Oasis had to cancel a show in 2009 because Liam was hung-over.
In a webchat he held with friend and comedian Matt Morgan a couple of weeks later and a few days before our interview, Gallagher apologised to Liam for the slight. Liam had said all he wanted was an apology. So did he drop the lawsuit? ''You'll have to ask Liam,'' comes Noel's clipped reply. ''And tell him I said hi.''
Since EG's chat with Gallagher, the lawsuit has been dropped but the stoush continues. It was reported last week that Liam offered to re-form Oasis in 2015 for the 20th anniversary of their first album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, but that Noel had declined. ''He's got my permission to go and play it,'' Noel told the BBC. ''I left that band for a reason and that reason still stands.''
The man who brought Oasis to the world, Creation Records founder Alan McGee, told EG during a visit to Australia a few weeks ago that although he was more in contact with Noel than Liam he didn't take sides in the brothers' feud.
''Neither one of them are in my social world because I'm in Wales; I don't see anybody,'' he says. ''I'm glad I live in Wales sometimes when it's going on between them, because I can't be involved in it any more, which is f---in' great, it's not my problem,'' he chuckles. ''I hope they make up because they're brothers. I hope it gets sorted out.''
The time for reconciliation might be a way off. Gallagher the elder is not only busy with touring High Flying Birds - he is strongly tipped to be announced for next year's Big Day Out - but has been finishing off the second album he has recorded with the British act Amorphous Androgynous. He plans to release it about June next year.
''We've just gone back and tweaked a couple of mixes,'' he says. ''Other than that it's completely recorded and completely done. If my music in the High Flying Birds has slightly psychedelic tinges to it, then on this next album it's been exaggerated by the times of 20.''
Is it like the material he did with the Chemical Brothers? ''No, that was more electronic, this is more '70s psychedelia. It's good, though, you'll like it. You'll love it.''
Like Hawkwind?
''Yes! Like Hawkwind. Seriously! Like Silver Machine. F---, ha ha ha!''

Yes comrades.
Been a few days, eh? Lots to tell.
Where to start? So I think the last time we spoke I was on the way to Edinburgh. Might've already been in Edinburgh? Can't remember. Anyway, the gig was great. The kids sang their little heads off. It was reported that there may have been a bit of violence and maybe a little bit of theft. Can you crazy kids not behave yourself?
There was also a story in one of the local newspapers that I'd had some hairdresser-turned-journalist BANNED from the gig for apparently shitting on my album? A ludicrous claim. As you might guess, I'm not an avid reader of the local Edinburgh News. Sounds like someone trying to make a name for himself, if you ask me.
Spent the rest of the night in some hotel bar being told stuff about myself by drunken locals.
Onto London for 3 shows on 3 consecutive nights at 3 different venues. The first being the Hammersmith Apollo. I liked it. It was easy. Maybe a little too easy. I have to say I thought it'd take a lot longer to get everything up to speed. It's already become very enjoyable and we've only done 6 gigs.
That was Saturday, right? So Sunday was at the Forum? I haven't played at the Forum since Oasis played there in '94. One forgets what a blimmin' great venue it is. Great gig. Like the old days. Great crowd. If you was there - nice one!! Best out of the 3 for me.
That brings us to The Roundhouse on Monday? Don't like that venue. Lord knows why anyone would play there. I've been to plenty of gigs there - can't recall ever seeing a good one yet. Dunno what it is. Maybe 'cause it's round and not an actual house? Dunno…
We did party hard after though, so all was not lost. Took over a small but perfectly formed nightclub in the West End. My cosmic soul brother Gaz Cobain from the Amorphous Androgynous was in control of the cosmic juke box and apart from some mithering from Irie Nancy and the golden girls for some "Beyonce" fun was had by all. We was asked to leave at the crack of dawn with a £7k bar bill!!!!!
A proper good effort that. Needless to say the last 2 days have been spent on the verge of a nervous breakdown. All good though and it was well worth it.
Did have some great news yesterday though. Grazia magazine have me at the top of this weeks 'Chart of Lust'!!!!!! That's right, LUST!!!! Eat that Coldplay. You can have the top spot in the charts. That don't mean shit...
GRAZIA MAGAZINE? COLUMN OF LUST? #1 BABY!!!!!!
Off to the BBC today. Doing a gig that will be broadcast live tonight on Radio 2. 8pm, I think - although I may have got that wrong. Iz'rite.
IN A BIT.

The Masterplan is a compilation album by English rock band Oasis, comprising B-sides which never made it onto an album. The album was originally intended for release only in areas such as the United States and Japan, where the tracks were only available on expensive European import singles. It was first released in late 1998. The Masterplan reached #2 in the UK where it went platinum, and #51 in the United States. However, it did gain top spot in various charts around the world, going on to sell 2 million copies. Four songs from the album appear on compilation album Stop the Clocks.

Trivia
The versions of "Listen Up" and "I Am the Walrus" are edits of their original releases on the "Cigarettes & Alcohol" single. "Listen Up" has 8 bars removed during the guitar solo (4:3–4:39). "I Am the Walrus", with a fade-out, finishes at 6:25, whereas the original runs fully to a natural conclusion at 8:14.
"I Am the Walrus" was given its correct recording location and date on the sleevenotes. On its original release on the "Cigarettes & Alcohol" single, the location listed was the Glasgow Cathouse, in June 1994. However, in promotional interviews for The Masterplan, Noel revealed that it was actually recorded at the soundcheck for a gig at a Sony Music seminar at Gleneagles, Scotland, in February 1994. He said the credit was changed because he thought "recorded at a Sony seminar" would "look shit".
Chris Griffiths (of The Real People) was given a co-writing credit for "Rockin' Chair". On its original release on the "Roll with It" single in 1995, Noel Gallagher was credited as the sole songwriter.
"Acquiesce" was released as a radio single in the United States, and a promotional video was created for this purpose. It consisted of a live performance of the song from Manchester's G-MEX, recorded on 14 December 1997, with various behind-the-scenes footage of the band on tour. For the video, both Liam's and Noel's vocal tracks were overdubbed over the originals recorded live in Manchester.
All of the B-sides from the "Cigarettes & Alcohol" and the UK version of "Some Might Say" singles appear on this album.
