First Listen: Beady Eye, BE

When it emerged that arty producer Dave Sitek was overseeing Liam Gallagher’s second post-Oasis effort, eyebrows were raised.

But the first Beady Eye album was so patchy that even Liam admitted it didn’t work – and getting Dave in has transformed them.

Liam actually sounds like he wants to be a singer again, and Dave’s experiments make for great psychedelic tunes.

Mystical chant Iz Rite is a highlight along with Face The Crowd, Liam’s best shouty rocker since Lyla.

Not everything works – there’s one too many ballads – but it proves Liam’s strongest when people are doubting him.

An album to BE proud of.

Daft Punk Predicted To Break Oasis' Record For Fastest Selling Album In UK Chart History

Daft Punk are predicted to break Oasis' record for the fastest selling album in UK chart history.

The band's new album 'Random Access Memories' is expected to beat the record currently held by 1997's 'Be Here Now', with bookies Paddy Power cutting the odds dramatically on the French duo's chances, according to Music Week. 'Be Here Now' sold 650,000 in its first week of sales, but 'Random Access Memories' has already scored the highest number of pre-sales for any dance album ever on Amazon. Paddy Power are giving 4/5 odds on the record outselling Oasis. The album is released tomorrow (May 17).

The LP has 7/1 odds of becoming the best-selling album in UK chart history by 2015.

A Paddy Power spokesperson said: "They might not have a catchy moniker like the 'Beliebers', but fans don't come much more passionate and excitable than Daft Punk enthusiasts so we're expecting big things for the French DJs next week. We only hope that the success doesn’t go straight to their helmets." Despite saying that they will not be touring the record, Paddy Power has odds of 5/2 on a world tour being announced by the end of the year.

Daft Punk are set for a fourth straight week at the top of the Official UK Singles Chart with their track 'Get Lucky', which has now sold more than 500,000 copies. The song has spent the past three weeks at Number One, and has already sold 49,000 copies since Sunday (May 12). The track is easily the French act's biggest selling UK single, overtaking their 2000 Number Two hit 'One More Time'.

Noel Gallagher Says David Beckham Should Take Up Songwriting When He Retires

Noel Gallagher has said that David Beckham should take up songwriting now that he has retired from football.

The former England and Manchester United player confirmed that he will stop playing football at the end of this season having rejected a chance to continue playing with Paris St Germain into 2014. Speaking to ITV News about Beckham's next career move while at the Ivor Novello Awards yesterday (May 16), Gallagher said: "Songwriting".

He added: "He's had a great career and played for some of the most iconic clubs in world football. He could probably go into management one day, as long as it's not (Manchester) City."

The former Oasis member also said he "hated" Beckham when he played for United, but has since become friends with the sportsman. "I hated him when he played for United. Hated him. Hate. Proper hate. But luckily I met him when he'd left United and he's such a nice lad and he's a brilliant footballer."

Noel Gallagher, The Maccabees and Alt-J all picked up major awards at this year's Ivor Novellos in London with Gallagher collecting the award for Outstanding Song Collection, which was presented to him by Kinks singer Ray Davies. The former Oasis member thanked "my publishers, who I've only just met after 20 years – Sony, apparently," to guffaws of laughter from the industry audience. He dedicated the award to his wife, who, he said, once told him she'd never seen him write any songs. "This is proof that I do," he said.

Noel Gallagher Would Never "Stoop" To Co-Write A Song With Another Artist

The former Oasis star and High Flying Birds frontman - who was awarded an Ivor Novello award recognising his outstanding song collection - admitted he didn't always find songwriting easy.

Noel said: "It can be frustrating. I start a lot of songs and finish just about enough to make an album every now and again. So it can be frustrating. The words for me are frustrating.

"But I don't think I'd ever stoop to being that much of a scoundrel to be a co-writer with anyone. I hate that. They should write their own songs."

Noel was given a standing ovation as he accepted his award and thanked "everyone who has ever played on one of my songs".

And dedicating the award award to his wife Sarah, he described a recent conversation they had in which he said he wanted to turn the garage of their new home into a "creative space" to write songs.

"And she said to me 'I've never seen you writing songs'."

Holding the trophy he said: "If any more proof were needed."

He accepted the award from Kinks star Ray Davies, who joked: "I don't know why I'm here. I haven't done anything to help this man's career at all."

Noel Gallagher I Thought Sacking Roberto Mancini Was Harsh

Former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has hit out at Manchester City's decision to sack manager Roberto Mancini.

The Italian oversaw Premier League triumph last season and also brought the FA Cup to the Etihad Stadium in2011, the club's first major trophy in 34 years, but was fired on Monday after failing to meet his targets for the campaign.

"He obviously didn't get on with a lot of people but I thought it was harsh," Gallagher told Absolute Radio at the Ivor Novello Awards.

"I think they should have given him another year. I was shocked, I've got to say."

The outspoken Mancunian, who in in July 2012 launched the club's new kit, added: "When you own the club and you've got to go you've got to go and that's it.

"He obviously didn't get on with a lot of people but I was a bit shocked.

"[Manuel] Pellegrini seems to have got the job," he concluded of the Chilean, who is expected to be unveiled at the Etihad Stadium before long.

Noel Gallagher: “It’s About The Songs, Songs Last Forever. You Can Have That Lyric.”

Noel Gallagher was so happy to be at the Ivor Novellos rather than across town at the Wembley shindig.

The former Oasis star won the Outstanding Song Collection gong at yesterday’s ceremony.

Asked why he liked being at the awards, which took place at the Grovesnor hotel, he said: “There aren’t any clowns like One Direction here.

“It’s not about what clothes you wear or how nimble you are or who you are s******g.

“It’s about the songs. Songs last forever. You can have that lyric.”

And having won one of the biggest gongs of the afternoon Noel vowed he would never be a songwriter for hire.

He dedicated his prize to wife Sara, saying: “When we bought a house in London I told my wife I wanted to convert the garage to a creative space. She said, ‘What for?’ I said, ‘To write songs.’ She said, ‘I’ve never seen you write a song.’ So this is for her.”
