On This Day In Oasis History...

"Stop Crying Your Heart Out" is a song by British rock band Oasis. It was released as the second single from Heathen Chemistry on 17 June 2002, peaking at number two in the UK charts. It went silver in the UK.

The song is an "epic weepy" anthem in the spirit of "Don't Look Back in Anger", reassuringly advising that in times of hardship, simply get over it and get on with your life. Noel Gallagher explained the song saying "A friend of mine was going through a pretty bad time and I sort of wrote it with him in mind."

Noel Gallagher had great expectations for the song, saying "I hope it does for us what 'Don't Look Back In Anger' did... I didn't want it as a single because I thought we'd done all that before, but everyone's going, 'You're fucking mad.'". NME said, 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' [is where] you really start rolling out the red carpet. A return to the long lost humanism of 'Don't Look Back In Anger', it's a reminder of Noel's knack of cheering up his audience just when they need it most." Q magazine held up the song as proof that "genius never completely left Oasis".

"Stop Crying Your Heart Out" was one of the songs played during the end credits of the movie, The Butterfly Effect, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart. It has been on the TV show Smallville too. The song also appeared after England's defeats in the 2002 Football World Cup and the 2006-07 Ashes. Noel Gallagher dedicated it to the English football team before playing it at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival. The song is also featured in the film Made of Honor, Starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan and appears towards the end of the film.

This blog and my Oasis site was named after the song.

Noel Gallagher Praises Paul Weller's Generosity Towards His Fans

Noel Gallagher has recalled a story in which Paul Weller gave a fan the shirt off his back.

The revelation comes as part of a new video, see above, in which a number of musicians talk about their memories of Weller. Paul McCartney also features and speaks about his appreciation of Weller's ability to adapt with the times and change his musical style on a regular basis. Miles Kane and Ocean Colour Scene's Steve Cradock, Weller's long-time musical collaborator, also appear.

Telling his own story, Noel Gallagher says: "I've seen a kid come up to him once and say, at a pub outside ours, I really like that shirt and he just took it off and gave it him and then sat in the pub topless, yep, then sat in the pub topless for the rest of the day."

alking about the changing status of his relationship from fan to friend with Weller, Noel continues: "Once you've had to throw someone out of your house a couple of times at 7 in the morning, and you know, nearly got in fights with them, that kind of thing ceases to exist anymore and it's like, you know, you're kind of his mate."

Weller released his latest compilation album, 'More Modern Classics', featuring tracks from the past 15 years of the singer's solo career, on June 2. The album acts as the follow up to 1998 compilation 'Modern Classics.' 'More Modern Classics' covers the period from that year until the modern day with new song 'Brand New Toy', recorded for Record Store Day 2014, included alongside the likes of 'From The Floorboards Up' and 'That Dangerous Age.'

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Shakermaker" is a song by British rock group Oasis, written by their lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. First appearing as a single, released on the 13th June 1994, which peaked at number 11 in the UK charts, it was later released on Oasis' groundbreaking debut album Definitely Maybe. It was also the first song performed by the band on the UK's world famous music program, Top Of The Pops.

Gallagher admits the lyrics are taken from the world around him, for example, a Shaker Maker was a popular toy in the 1970s, the character of "Mr Soft" was taken from a Trebour Soft Mints commercial, which featured Cockney Rebel's song "Mr Soft", "Mr. Clean" is a song by The Jam, one of Gallagher's favourite bands, "Mr Benn" is a British children's cartoon and the entire last verse - Mr Sifter sold me songs/When I was just 16/Now he stops at traffic lights/But only when they're green - was written in a taxi on the way to the recording studio to record the song. Apparently, Liam Gallagher was pestering Noel to finish the song. At this point, the taxi stopped at the traffic lights outside 'Sifter's"' (a record shop in Burnage, Manchester). Noel penned the lyric and it became part of the song. Noel used to frequent the store to buy old records before Oasis started releasing albums and Mr Sifter refers to the owner of the record store.

O-Town's Jacob Underwood Talks Oasis Versus One Direction

O-Town star Jacob Underwood has said he prefers Oasis to One Direction.

The 'All or Nothing' singer has just reformed the pop band with his bandmates Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller and Trevor Penick after splitting in 2003.

Despite his time away from the music scene, Jacob has kept up with modern pop songs and enjoys what the 1D boys are doing, but he'll always prefer Liam and Noel Gallagher's rock anthems.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Yeah I like One Direction, I really like their last song 'Story of My Life' and I really like their voices. I didn't really listen to a lot of pop music to be honest until recently. I like Oasis, I've always liked Oasis' music. I was never like a die-hard fan but I enjoy their music."

Jacob was disappointed just like millions of other fans when Noel, 47, quit Oasis in 2009 following a backstage bust-up with his younger brother Liam, 41, but hopes they can will reform at some point.

The star - who releases new single 'Skydive' with O-Town on July 27 followed by their album 'Lines & Circles' on August 3 - said: "People break-up and get back together all the time - that's the trouble with a family business."

When told the brothers have barely spoken since their split, he added: "That's got to be tough man, that has got to really suck.".

We are particularly interested in hearing from people who perhaps took fashion inspiration from bands of the time and may still have some clothing from that period or people who were influenced in any other ways by the emergence of Britpop.

Lars Ulrich Says Metallica Might Cover Oasis' 'Wonderwall' At Glastonbury

Metal band Metallica might be taking on Oasis' "Wonderwall," one of the most well known rock singles of all time, at the Glastonbury Festival.

This is only adding fuel to an already strong fire regarding the band being one of the main headliners at the popular musical festival. n a recent interview with The Guardian, Metallica's Lars Ulrich spoke about their headlining performance and that they might have to perform their own cover of the rock 'n' roll classic.

When asked about the groups reaction to suggestions that a metal headliner won't work at Glatsonbury, Ulrich referenced Jay Z's 2008 performance when Noel Gallagher claimed that wouldn't work as a headlining performance.

"Jay Z came out and played 'Wonderwall,' right? So maybe we gotta go out and do our rendition of 'Wonderwall.' We'll start with 'Wonderwall' and we'll take it from there. Ha ha, listen, you've just gotta go out and be yourself and be proud of what you're doing," Ulrich said.
