Noel Gallagher Teases "Freeloaders" Fans

Noel Gallagher teased his fans were "freeloaders" during his acoustic set for BBC Radio 2 on Monday night (07.12.15).

The 48-year-old rocker performed an intimate show at the BBC Radio Theatre in London, and joked that the 400 strong crowd were cheap-skates because they were getting to watch him sing for free.

Taking a break to chat to the audience, he said: "So, competition winners eh? Was it a random draw or did you have to answer a question? So you didn't have to have any knowledge at all. How does that make you feel? Can't be as bad as me."

Noel was joined by his former Oasis bandmate Gem Archer - who formed the now-defunct Beady Eye with Liam Gallagher following the demise of the super-group - and he introduced the guitarist as "my former right-hand man, who is now my left-hand man".

Crouched over his guitar, sat in the middle of the stage, Noel was flanked by two guitars and backed by three saxophonists and a keyboard player.

His relaxed style and cool temperament mesmerised the eager crowd, who were on tender-hooks as the rocker paced himself through a mixture of Oasis classics and B-sides such as '(It's Good) To Be Free', 'Talk Tonight' and 'D'Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman?', 'Wonderwall' and 'Slide Away' and songs from his solo career such as 'The Death of You and Me', 'If I Had A Gun...' and 'AKA... What a Life!'.

As one fan shouted "stand up we can't see you!" Noel quipped: "I haven't got a guitar strap. If it wasn't going out on the telly I'd be calling you something other than James Blunt."

Noel closed his set with his best-loved song 'Don't Look Back In Anger' which prompted a singalong from the few hundred fans watching.

Noel Gallagher Regrets Oasis Broke Up

NME reports that during an interview on BBC Radio 2 last night, Noel Gallagher expressed regret that Oasis broke up. The band parted ways in 2009 and Gallagher has said there’s only about one percent chance they ever get back together.

He said: “Leaving Oasis – that was a horrible night [in Paris, 2009]. I knew that it was going to be a decision that would follow me around – there’s still not a day where I don’t read something about us getting back together – so I knew what I was getting myself into. [It was the right thing to do], definitely. What Oasis had in its future was to do bigger tours and generate more money, which is great. I wasn’t planning on going solo, but it was such a mess that I was happier off [doing that]. I wish – this is all in hindsight – that we hadn’t broken up. That we all agreed we’d all do different things, and then one day we’d all get back together – but it all got vicious, and I wish it had been handled differently. But I don’t have too many regrets.”

He also spoke about his relationship with Liam Gallagher, which is strained. He mentioned that the two won’t be seeing each other at Christmas. He added: “It’s difficult for people to understand that to be in a working relationship for 20 years with someone you’re so close with is really difficult. And there’s a whole mess that’s gone on around it. But I’ve no doubt that, one day, it’ll be all OK again.“

Why Noel Gallagher Won't Be Going To See The Stone Roses In 2016

Noel Gallagher has said that he is not interested in seeing The Stone Roses live unless the band record a new album.

Noel spoke to Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 last night, as part of an acoustic concert that saw him play a set leaning heavily on his Oasis back catalogue.

With John Squire having joined Gallagher to perform 'Champage Supernova' at Knebworth in 1996, Gallagher was asked if he might join Stone Roses on stage at any of their gigs in Manchester next year.

"I'd love to see Ian Brown sing 'Champagne Supernova'," Gallagher joked. "If they asked, yeah, but I'm not planning to go to the gigs. I didn't really go to the last ones. I did a few gigs with them. If they're going to make a new record I'd go and see that but I've seen them before."

Noel Gallagher Disappointed That John Lewis Advert Song 'Forever Linked' To Christmas

High Flying Birds star says his dislike for Christmas has increased yet further by use of Half The World Away.

Noel Gallagher has revealed how his dislike for Christmas has increased, after a cover of his track featured on the John Lewis festive advert.

The High Flying Birds frontman said hearing Aurora's version of the Oasis B-side, Half The World Away, on the high street chain's Man On The Moon advert made him feel disappointed, because the song will now forever be associated with Christmas.

"It will forever be synonymous with Christmas from now on and, as is well known, it's not my favourite time of year," he said as he performed a concert with BBC Radio 2 in London.
"Having said that, at least it comes with a cheque, which, believe me, is highly worthwhile."

The 48-year-old rocker joked: "And don't go buying me John Lewis vouchers for Christmas, trying to be a smart a---, inside a card that says 'Noel'."

Gallagher has previously expressed his aversion for Christmas, saying: "I hate the silly music on the radio, I hate the adverts, I don't like mince pies and I hate turkey. I can't be a---- getting involved."

He was joined by his Oasis bandmate Gem Archer - who was also part of Gallagher's brother Liam's band Beady Eye - as he performed the intimate and semi-acoustic set, filled with B-sides of Oasis singles and hits from his first High Flying Birds album, at the BBC Radio Theatre.

The Manchester-born musician introduced Archer as "my former right-hand man, who is now my left-hand man".

Four hundred fans watched Gallagher play live, although more than 50,000 people applied to attend the gig, which included past Oasis hits Wonderwall, (What's The Story) Morning Glory? and Don't Look Back In Anger.Sara

He also dedicated the Oasis track, Slide Away, to his absent wife Sara MacDonald, "who couldn't be bothered to come tonight".

Gallagher, who performed at Lincoln's Bishop Grosseteste University with Archer on Saturday, will next play at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday.

He will embark on a UK tour next April.

Noel Gallagher Rules Out Performing At Next Year's Glastonbury Festival

Noel Gallagher will attend Glastonbury Festival 2016, but only as a reveller after ruling out an Oasis reunion or any other appearance.

The legendary Manchester band were high on fans' wish lists to headline the sold-out Worthy Farm event next summer, only for the elder Gallagher brother to quash speculation.

Talking to BBC Radio Two presenter Simon Mayo ahead of a live performance on air this evening, Gallagher said: "I won't be doing Glastonbury, nor will Oasis, Beady Eye (band formed by former Oasis members and frontman Liam Gallagher) or any other Oasis spin offs.

"I'll be going to Glastonbury though, but won't be playing."

Review: Noel Gallagher In Lincoln

It's not every day Noel Gallagher comes to Lincoln.

The former Oasis star, famous for his short-temper and rocky relationship with his younger brother, is a British music icon.

He's penned some of the nation's favourite songs, performed to hundreds of thousands of people across the world and scooped the industry's top prizes.

Yet here he was, sat no more than 50 feet away from me playing a small intimate gig to 200 people at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln.

In short – I had to pinch myself.

Of course my night started long before the show kicked off as I mingled among excited competition winners – "would he play Wonderwall" or "would someone mention Liam" (thankfully no one did) many asked.

There was not only a feeling of excitement in the air but a sense of the unknown.

Many were self-confessed Oasis fans with more knowledge of his back catalogue than anything he had done in recent years, myself included.

My colleague and I were quickly shown backstage to get our papers signed.

No one paid any attention to us, including members of Noel's group The High Flying Birds - to say I felt uncomfortable would be an understatement.

It didn't get any better as I was ushered through a door and told to keep my voice down– it turns out Noel was in the room chatting with organisers, Lincs FM.

As I walked past I couldn't help but stare (I'll never get another chance, right?).

He glanced over before carrying on his conversation – I felt cool for a moment, if only briefly, before being shown out of the room.

Fast-forward another hour and he took to the stage greeted by rapturous applause.

What followed was a stellar gig packed full of new songs I didn't know and old classics I've been humming for the last decade.

The Importance of being Idle, Don't Look Back in Anger and yes, Wonderwall, were all performed with confidence and more passion than you'd expect from a 48-year-old who has been doing it for years.

He wasn't stingy with time either, performing more than a dozen songs before he finally left the stage leaving the 200-strong crowd on their feet.

His trademark attitude was also on full display.

He regularly reminded us that it was a free gig and we should be grateful for his time, told us he didn't know where Lincolnshire was before he arrived and jokingly said our Christmas market was naff.

However, the jokes and put downs were all doled out in such a brutally frank fashion you couldn't help but love it.

Everyone at the event knew this was a one-time thing – that Noel might not ever play such a small venue again.

After all, this was a star still at the top of his game, not a once prized race horse stumbling towards retirement.

As I listened to Wonderwall (with my colleague singing into my face) I couldn't help but be impressed.

I still can't say I am his biggest fan but Noel Gallagher has convinced me he's still got it.

Who needs Liam?
