Liam Gallagher's 'As You Were' Is The 10th Best Selling Album Worldwide By A British Artist In 2017

Liam Gallagher's debut album 'As You Were' was the tenth best selling album worldwide by a British artist in 2017.

The figures were released by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

Here are the top ten best selling British albums of 2017 from around the world.

01. Ed Sheeran – Divide
02. Rag N Bone Man – Human
03. Sam Smith – The Thrill Of It All
04. Harry Styles – Harry Styles
05. Depeche Mode – Spirit
06. Ed Sheeran – Multiply
07. The Beatles – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
08. Gorillaz – Humanz
09. Roger Waters – Is This The Life We Really Want?
10. Liam Gallagher – As You Were

It reports that one in every eight albums bought worldwide in 2017 was by a British act, while UK artists accounted for 12.9% of all music purchased or streamed around the world.

The figure is slightly up on last year's 12.5%, but down on 2015, when Adele's hugely successful 25 album lifted UK music exports to 17%.

Noel Gallagher And Paul Weller Already Have The Theme Song Written For The Next Bond Movie

The film has not started next James Bond yet, but Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller already have the theme song.

I told you how the former Oasis guitarist would record a 007 track “in a heartbeat”.

Now The Modfather spilled: “I’ve got this half a song that me and Noel Gallagher worked on and I think it would be great for a Bond theme. There’s a bit of minor key going on.”

Noel was not impressed by Sam Smith’s recent Bond song, saying: “I could do it and it would be great.”

If Daniel Craig returns to the role as expected, he will have a say in who does the music.

The actor gave the green light to Adele and Sam’s efforts.

Noel once said he wouldn’t mind Craig playing him in a film too.

But Craig joked that he couldn’t because he is too good at guitar playing.

He said: “I can play guitar better than Noel so I don’t know how playing him is really going to work.”

Meanwhile Weller is also keen on trying his hand at the dreaded Eurovision.

Referring to a song off his new album A Kind Revolution out tomorrow, he told BBC: “I want to see the UK win the Eurovision Song Contest.

“And I think they need The Impossible Idea as their tune.

“If it was my song then I would definitely, yeah.”

Well, That’s Entertainment I suppose.

Is Noel Gallagher Making His Own Bid For An Oscar?

Noel Gallagher is getting closer to his Oscar dream after teaming up with a soundtrack great.

David Holmes, who has scored hit movies including Ocean’s Eleven, is producing the singer’s next solo album.

Now the hope is that Hollywood bigwigs will use his new material for a movie and get Noel that Academy Award nod.

An insider told me: “With David’s influence, getting the music on to a film soundtrack stands a very good chance.”

UK stars Adele, 27, and Sam Smith, 23, have nabbed an Oscar in recent years.

And the elder Gallagher, 48, admits he’s a bit jealous.

He said recently: “It would be nice if I could write a song for a fi lm which would win me an Oscar.”

Due out next year, the rock legend called his new solo music “f***ing brilliant”, dashing any lingering Oasis reunion hopes.

Producer David, who is up for an Ivor Novello Award, recently remixed some of Noel's work.

And Noel explained: “I’m working with a producer in a way I’ve never worked before which is writing in the studio and my producer’s suggesting jumping off points.

“The end results are pretty good at the moment.”

Noel Gallagher, Bono, Coldplay, Damon Albarn And More To Form A Supergroup At The Brits

Paying a fitting homage to David Bowie is no easy task, but the Brit Awards are trying their hardest.

I can reveal bosses are putting together an A-list supergroup in a bid to lay on the ultimate tribute at next month’s bash.

The band, which will hopefully include former Britpop foes Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn, plus Bono, will perform alongside iconic British acts Coldplay and Adele.

Organisers are even considering asking ITV to extend the show by 30 minutes to give the spectacular the time it deserves.

Yesterday a music insider revealed: “A few artists approached the Brits to ask if they could be involved in the David Bowie tribute as they want to make sure it is done properly.

“He was a British icon and they want to provide a credible farewell which can honour that.

“The band will be full of musicians who grew up with Bowie and were inspired by him, meaning artists like Noel, Damon and Bono.

“It is unlikely to involve young acts such as Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran, but there will be a few artists who are already singing on the night who will be asked if they want to take part too.

“The organisers are putting everything into it. If they get it right, it will be epic.”

Noel Gallagher has topped this week's Vinyl Singles Chart with his High Flying Birds track 'The Dying Of The Light'.

The Official UK Charts Company introduced the Vinyl Charts earlier this year with Underworld's tribute to the late Frankie Knuckles, 'Baby Wants To Ride' taking the first Number One position in the Singles Chart.

This week sees Gallagher beat New Order to the top spot, with the Manchester band's 'Tutti Frutti' at Number Two.

Sam Smith, The 1975 and Roisin Murphy complete the Top Five.

Old Britpop battles will be reignited at the Q Awards as both Blur and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds go head to head for two awards.

Both bands are up for Best Album and Best Act in the World Today at the award show in London on October 19.

Former Oasis frontman Gallagher joins Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine and Foals in leading the nominations, with three apiece.

Gallagher and Sheeran are also in the running for Best Solo Artist, alongside Kanye West, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

Smith, who has penned the theme song for new Bond film Spectre, won in last year’s Best New Act category, which this year features Jess Glynne, James Bay and Years & Years.

Absolute Radio DJ Christian O’Connell will return to host the awards for the second year in a row.

Voting is open to the public in seven categories – including best new act, best album, best solo artist and best video – at www.Qthemusic.com/Q/Awards.

Noel Gallagher Wants To Record A Future James Bond Theme

Noel Gallagher has said that he would record a Bond theme "in a heartbeat" if asked to.

It was announced yesterday that Sam Smith will release the official theme for new James Bond film Spectre with his song 'Writing's On The Wall' expected to be unveiled soon. Smith worked with Disclosure on the song, having previously denied his involvement in the project.

Speaking to NME at last night's AIM Awards, Gallagher laughed when told of Smith's involvement with Spectre.

Asked if he would record a future Bond theme, Gallagher was keen: "If I was asked," he said. "Fucking too right. I'd record a Bond theme in a heartbeat. But they usually want people who are famous in America, don't they? I'm only famous in Manchester. And bits of south London."

Smith had previously – and repeatedly – denied that he will be involved with the 24th Bond film, which is out on October 26. Just last week the singer told BBC Radio 2's Jo Whiley that he was "definitely not" working on the project. "That's not me. That's definitely not me," he said. "I've still got loads to do, I've got an Australia tour, but I kind of finish in December which is great, it gives me a chance to be in London, be in my home and go out with my friends."

Radiohead were the surprise bookies' favourites to record the theme following an anonymous £15,000 bet being placed on the likelihood of them performing the track.

Review: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds In London

Noel Gallagher pointed out that High Flying Birds is a band, not a solo project. No one really believed him.

While his kid brother’s band Beady Eye recently called it a day, Noel Gallagher’s just scored the fastest-selling album of the year so far. For the blokeish crowd at the O2, all must have seemed right with the world: a Gallagher on top of the charts ahead of sensitive boys Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran. He couldn’t resist an unsubtle reference to “my f***ing No  1 album”, then pointed out that Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds is a band, not a solo project. No one really believed him.

Yet there was no doubting the appeal of his post-Oasis songs. Everybody’s on the Run was the first anthem, while Lock All the Doors sounded like the Mancunians in their pomp.

Gallagher got excited by some argy-bargy down the front (“excellent behaviour”), although calm was soon restored by the mellow Riverman, featuring a saxophone solo of which Liam Gallagher would surely not approve. His big brother can get away with such experimental flourishes if he keeps writing stand-out tunes like the multi-layered Ballad of the Mighty I.

Perhaps Champagne Supernova would have benefited from Liam’s swagger, though Noel’s vocal was lifted by the Crouch End Festival Chorus.

During Don’t Look Back in Anger the audience sang along with the choir, while The Masterplan (Wonderwall’s b-side) made for a life-affirming finale. Oasis may be missed but Noel Gallagher offers the best of both worlds.

Noel Gallagher On Oasis, Liam, Blur, Mick Jagger, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian And More

Noel Gallagher is putting his past behind him, releasing a new solo album, ruling out a reunion with his brother Liam and even being nice about one-time arch-rivals Blur.

Oasis split five years ago after nearly two decades of fractious sibling rivalry between guitarist Noel and his younger brother Liam, the band’s frontman.

“I haven’t seen him for about five months but we text quite a lot. It’s usually him insulting me,” laughs Gallagher, during an interview with AFP in London.

Liam’s post-Oasis band Beady Eye recently broke up as well but he is quick to dismiss any suggestion of a reunion with his 42-year-old brother. “The answer is no,” he says.

His new album “Chasing Yesterday”, his second since the band split, is released on March 2 and features his signature combination of layered guitars and elliptical lyrics.

The star is full of enthusiasm for the life of a solo artist, perhaps recalling the arguments and dramas which accompanied Oasis’s global success, selling 60 million albums and scoring hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger”.

“It’s more rewarding, it’s more fulfilling. I like being in charge of everything,” he says. “I just write songs and I collect the songs together and I make an album out of them.”

Best singers are ‘wild animals’

Gallagher is now a 47-year-old family man with three children who is more likely to be found watching his beloved Manchester City than indulging a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

His legendary bile towards musicians whose work he does not rate has not diminished with age.

“Beyonce, not for me. My wife loves her but she’s got no taste. Katy Perry? Even my daughter hates her and she’s 15. Sam Smith? Not for me,” he says.

“Traditional rock stars are like wild animals Mick Jagger or my brother,” he adds.

“They don’t give a fuck. Modern rock stars, Alex Turner (of Arctic Monkeys) or Serge from Kasabian, they do give a fuck, they care about their hair style, they care about what they think.”

He is more forgiving towards Oasis’s old Britpop rivals Blur, who this month announced their first new album in 12 years, “The Magic Whip”.

“I think it will probably be very good if it in any way represents what Damon (Albarn, Blur’s frontman) has been doing recently,” Gallagher says.

“Old groups are great but what really lets old groups down, they don’t fucking write good songs any more.”

He does not even rule out working with Albarn in future.

“I would like to. We’re both gonna be busy boys for the next couple of years. But you never know,” he says.
