Noel Gallagher Labeled A “Bitter Ol Timer Rocker” By Avicii

Noel Gallagher fires out withering quotes more often than you hear a busker covering ‘Wonderwall’, which basically means he does it almost every time he opens his mouth.

Now one of his recent targets, Swedish DJ and producer Avicii, has hit back after Gallagher dismissed EDM as “a dude in a hat and a pair of fake DJ decks pressing play on a CD player” by posting a South Park clip on Instagram and calling him a “silly sausage”. Shots fired!

Gallagher had shared the top of the bill with Avicii, David Guetta, Kasabian and The Prodigy at Scotland’s T In the Park festival earlier this month and told the XFM that it was “disturbing” that the lineup was headlined by DJs and older rock acts. “It’s quite telling … that still at festivals the biggest draw are bands who have been around for ten years” he explained. “Radiohead, Coldplay, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers. It’s all bands that have been going fifteen years. So once that generation of nineties bands eventually decides they’ve made enough money and will retire, then what are we left with? … [It’s] quite a bleak future.”

But Avicii disagrees. “There are still good bands, still making great music that changes peoples lives,” Avicii wrote in his Instagram response. “What is really sad is hearing a old time musician like yourself confessing so bluntly and openly to not having an open mind to new music by dissing shit u havnt even heard , I really didnt think someone whose whole image is being witty would turn all stereotype ‘bitter ol timer rocker’ like that lol.” The producer goes on to dare Gallagher to still say the same thing after listening to his new album Stories, which includes collaborations with with Jon Bon Jovi, Billie Joe Armstrong, Chris Martin, Wyclef Jean, Serj Tankian and Matisyahu.

Gallagher released his second solo album Chasing Yesterday in February and recently confirmed that he’ll return to Australia for a tour in 2016.

Noel Gallagher: "It's Disturbing That A Dude With Fake DJ Decks Is The Future"

The former Oasis man was talking to XFM at this year's T In The Park Festival when he made the comment on current headliners.

Noel Gallagher has told XFM that he finds large-scale EDM artists "disturbing." Before performing at this year's T In The Park Festival, Noel was speaking about the current state of headliners.

"It's quite telling…that still at festivals the biggest draw are bands who have been around for ten years" he said. "Kasabian are the newest of that lot. They've been around ten years."

"Radiohead, Coldplay, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers. They've all been going fifteen years. So once that generation of nineties bands eventually decides they've made enough money and will retire, then what are we left with?"

I find it quite disturbing" he went on,  "for the future of festivals (and youth culture, in a way) if a dude in a hat and a pair of fake DJ decks pressing play on a CD player is what it's all about. That's quite a bleak future."

As well as Noel Gallagher, Kasabian and The Libertines, the likes of David Guetta and Avicii also headlined the festival.

Annie Mac 'Skream And Benga Make Liam And Noel Gallagher Look Like Pussies'

Dubstep DJs more hardcore than Sex Pistols says Radio 1 host

Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac says dubstep DJs Skream and Benga are more hardcore than the Sex Pistols or Oasis ever were.

Mac – full name Annie MacManus – is a successful club DJ away from her Radio 1 day job. Speaking to The Guardian about the art of being a superstar DJ, she revealed the level of excess some of her friends from the circuit exert themselves to. Mac says Magnetic Man stars Skream and Benga are so hedonistic makes Noel and Liam Gallagher "look like pussies". It's crazy, Skream and Benga are like the Sex Pistols!

They are everything that's wild and anarchic about underground music. You know bands like The Who or Led Zeppelin were famous for their excess? It's spoken about, revered. But that's happening every day in DJ world. Even compared to Oasis and what went on at Supernova Heights... mate. Go to Croydon on a Friday night. Skream and Benga are gonna make Noel and Liam look like pussies.

Speaking more about Skream's drinking habits, Mac said: "Skream is some sort of weird bionic man. No matter what he puts inside himself he's always fine and at the studio at 8am the next day making bangers. He often goes four days without sleeping. It's hard for him, too, because everywhere he goes, people are like, 'Shit we have to get ready, Skream and Benga are coming to town'. They're expected to fulfil that role of rock'n'roll party boys. From our perspective, we have one crazy night with them; for them, it's crazy every night of their lives. We always say that Skream's just gonna get really fat overnight. Everything's going to crack. He'll age 70 years because he's put so much alcohol into his system."

Elsewhere in the interview, Mac speaks of her interest in starting a night were revelers are asked to hand in their mobile phones at the door to stop people filming DJs. She also says David Guetta should be praised for "changing everything".

Power Cut Forces Noel Gallagher's Birds Off Stage At Dublin Gig

Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds were forced off stage last night because of a power cut.

The former Oasis guitarist was just finishing his first song at 7.30pm at an open-air show in Marlay Park, south Dublin -- opening for headliners Kasabian -- when he encountered sound difficulties. The problem continued into his second number with the power being cut just 10 seconds later.

Gallagher and his band played on, unaware the audience were unable to hear them. Moments later they left the stage altogether before returning just after 8.05pm. The Manchester-born musician laughed off the technical difficulties.

Aside from some sporadic clapping and cheering, the audience took it in the same spirit.

Many were just happy to have made it into the arena after the most stringent security checks at a rock concert for years following the Swedish House Mafia concert last month in the Phoenix Park at which there were nine stabbings and multiple arrests.

Fans were subjected to two body checks and asked to put the contents of their pockets into transparent plastic bags before entering the concert site.

But most concert-goers said they didn't mind.

"We all want to have a safe night and the security people have a job to do," said Kevin Dunne from nearby Churchtown.

While last night passed off without incident, security is expected to be even tighter at tonight's concert in the park featuring DJ David Guetta.

The series of concerts is rounded off by a Van Morrison/Tom Jones double bill tomorrow.
