The Enemy's Andy Hopkins Can't Wait For Liam Gallagher's Solo Album

The Enemy's Andy Hopkins can't wait for Liam Gallagher's solo album and for the former Oasis frontman to prove to everyone he is one of the "greatest rock 'n' roll" singers of all time.
The bassist and his bandmates - frontman Tom Clarke and drummer Liam Watts - supported Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher on tour on numerous occasions and became friends with the now warring-siblings.

Andy was disappointed to see the end of Oasis in 2009 and was also sad to see Liam's next band Beady Eye dissolve in 2014.

The outspoken hellraiser has now signed a deal with Warner Bros Records UK to release his first solo LP next year and Andy is excited to hear the 'D'You Know What I Mean?' hitmaker's songs and show the world he isn't stuck in Noel's shadow.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, the musician said: "I'll be glad to see Liam put his name in lights. Noel may have written the songs in Oasis but Liam was the town crier and in that band he absolutely crushed it. Liam and Noel defined a generation and Liam has one of the best rock 'n' roll voices of all time, he's up there with the greatest. He's had enough time out and I'm sure he's worked out who his mates are.

"He has so much to offer, remember that track he did with Death In Vegas a few years back, 'Scorpio Rising', that was unbelievable. What I don't want is Liam to become a pastiche of himself and I'm sure he won't because he's too intelligent for that. I want to go out there and get back on stage and show everyone that he is the boss, because he is, Liam is an amazing talent. Noel has done it as a solo artist, don't tell me Liam can't. His voice is so good and he should show people how good he is. We got to know him and he's a top bloke and a real gentleman. Liam is one of the few people who I've met in the music business who has a glow, he has a presence. When he walks in a room you know he's there, he's proper mate."

Tom Clarke Has High Praise For Noel Gallagher

The Enemy’s Tom Clarke has praised Noel Gallagher for continuing to inspire young rockers like himself with his epic High Flying Birds album.

While guitar music might be thin on the ground, the Coventry trio scored a Top 10 hit with recent third album Streets In The Sky – and support Noel in Belfast on August 20.

Frontman Tom told me: “I love Belfast; it’s got proper soul and it’ll be amazing to play with Noel as he’s incredible.

He’s set the bar for any songwriter to live up to that.”

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds To Headline Belsonic

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are to headline the Belsonic stage at Belfast's Custom House Square.

The band will perform material from the self-titled debut album, as well as a selection of tracks from Gallagher's previous band Oasis, on Monday August 20.

The Enemy will be filling the support slot for the show.

Gallagher is the former lead guitarist, songwriter and vocalist for Oasis and has penned classics such as Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Supersonic.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is his latest band, following the break-up of Oasis in 2009.

His critical acclaimed debut LP went straight to number one in the UK and Irish album charts and was the second biggest-selling UK rock album, closely following Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto.

The Enemy Talk Oasis

British indie types The Enemy have revealed the real reason behind their last minute call off on the final Oasis tour.

Gathering a number of close friends, Oasis began their biggest ever UK tour last year in high spirits. However almost immediately cracks appeared with The Enemy forced to pull out of the opening night.

Singer Tom Clarke came down ill, with The Enemy missing out on the first show of their stint on the tour. Later the band were forced to miss out on a show at Wembley stadium. Speaking to ClashMusic bass player Andy Hopkins revealed the real reason behind the call off - lilies.

"Basically, we were on the Oasis tour, we were doing Saturday at Wembley" he explained. "We were all dead looking forward to it, couldn’t wait. But the thing is, Tom’s allergic to lilies. It’s really bad. If he’s at home and his mum’s got lilies in the house, even then it can happen".

"We didn’t ask for it or anything, obviously, but there was lilies in the dressing room. His throat closed up and he couldn’t sing so we had to cancel with Oasis. I was absolutely fuming and he was gutted, but there just wasn’t anything he could do about it."

Continuing, The Enemy star explained that the band have made no timetable to begin work on their third album. "That’s the thing. We’re having no deadlines this time. We’re thinking of taking as long as we want, maybe an album out by the end of the year, maybe not."

"We want to release an album that we all love and we want time to be able to do that. There’s no point releasing music that you’re not happy with. You can’t force someone to write songs otherwise it’s not natural."

The Enemy Shock At Oasis Split

The Enemy have launched an astonishing attack on BBC Radio 1, saying it has given up on trying to break new guitar bands.

The Coventry band, who won Best New Band at last year's NME Awards, say that believe the playlist is largely ignoring upcoming acts of a more indie or alternative bent.

The band spent the summer supporting Oasis on their stadium tour but Tom said they had no idea the Gallagher brothers were seriously on the verge of splitting.

Tom shrugged: “It’s a shame and I’m absolutely gutted. But hopefully….you never know what will happen in the future. Touch wood Their mum will sort it out, yeah, Peggy will get on it, bang their heads together. I’d love to see them get back together, but I’d also like to see a solo album from Noel. I really think he’s got an absolute quality album in him.”

Tom Clarke: I Want Oasis Return

The Enemy's Tom Clarke is hoping Oasis will reunite to record a new album, but not before Noel Gallagher has released a solo record.

The Be Somebody singer - who toured with Oasis earlier this year with the group - confessed he is upset about the split of "the best band in the world" but is optimistic they will reunite.

Tom said: "I hope one day they get back together - but first I hope Noel comes out with a solo album because I reckon he's got an amazing solo album in him, so I'd like that first."

The Enemy's Tom Clarke: 'Cut Liam Gallagher Some V Festival Slack'

The Enemy's Tom Clarke has asked fans to cut Oasis' Liam Gallagher some slack after the Manchester band cancelled their headline slot at the Chelmsford leg of the event yesterday (August 23) due to the singer contracting laryngitis.

Clarke, whose band played on the 4Music stage at V Festival, said he believed the illness was legitimate – pointing out that Liam and his bandmate brother Noel have had a challenging relationship for some time.

"If they’ve cancelled it's for a legitimate reason," the frontman of the Coventry trio, who recently supported Oasis, told Absolute Radio. "I hope everyone cuts him a bit of slack and doesn't whinge about it, 'cos shit happens."

Speaking about why he was convinced that Liam's ailment was the genuine reason for the cancellation he added: "They've been on tour since forever. I'm pretty sure they've hated each other since the '90s. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have surmounted in Liam not playing V because they've just realised they don't get on with each other.

"They get on with it. They manage to go on stage and play amazing shows, probably the best live band in the world. The fact of the matter is, the lad's probably got a sore throat. Give him a break. Let him have a day off."

Tom Clarke Slams Rumours His Band Weren't Up To Supporting Oasis

The Enemy's frontman Tom Clarke has hit back over claims the band pulled out of supporting Oasis at Wembley Stadium because they couldn't be bothered.

The Coventry trio said that they were forced to pull out of their performance on July 11 because their singer Tom fell ill.

"The fact of the matter is we smashed a hole in Wembley for two nights and we couldn't do one because I had a reaction to some lillies," he told Radio 1.

"It's pathetic that in 2009 a man can't walk past a lily without getting a sore throat but what can you do?"

This is the second time The Enemy have pulled out of a support slot during Oasis' UK tour.

Last month, Clarke's band were forced to cancel a performance at Heaton Park because he was struck down with food poisoning.

Reports at the time suggested that the singer believed Oasis were "past it", prompting Liam Gallagher to criticise the band on his Twitter page.

But Clarke was quick to point out that he was misunderstood.

Now, Clarke has hit back and launched a scathing attack on music journalists.

"There's not that many interesting bands around at the minute," he said.

"There's us, Kasabian, Oasis, maybe Muse but to be honest they've been quiet for a bit, Reverened And The Makers and that's pretty much it.

"So all these petty little music journalists have to sit in a room and decide what they're going to write about and normally they pick on the exciting bands and then try and make it more exciting.

"Why don’t they just write Oasis, Kasabian and The Enemy smashed a hole in Wembley and if you go down there just off the A40 you'll find it?"

The Enemy are due to perform at this year's Ibiza Rocks line-up on 4 August.

Tom Clarke: Liam's A Proper Gent

The Enemy's Tom Clarke has revealed that his well-publicised spat with Oasis is well and truly over after the band joined the Mancunian legends on tour. Last month, the singer was quoted as saying the Gallaghers were "past it", prompting Liam to call Clarke a "little fucker", but Tom has told Xfm it's all been smoothed over.

Speaking to Xfm's Steve Harris, Tom explained that the current Oasis/Kasabian/Enemy tour featured "probably the best line-up that's ever existed."

"Liam came up straight away," he explained. "As soon as I got there and got over my little illness, he made sure I knew the score. He's a proper gent and Noel is the most normal bloke in the world, who happens to have written some of the best songs ever."

Tom also told Steve that being onstage while Oasis did their thing wasn't necessarily the best vantage point. "I've watched them from the side of the stage, but to be honest it's better watching them out the front. The fans have the best seats. You've got to be out there, steaming, singing the songs."

Liam Won't Look Back In Anger

The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke has set the record straight on 'that' Oasis feud.

The pair came to blows after Liam thought the Coventry star called him a has-been.

But it was the Gallagher brother who approached Tom on the first night of their current tour to apologise for misunderstanding the situation.

Tom said: "He's a really top guy. He came up to me and said he might have misunderstood the situation.

"I was alseep in Japan when the whole thing kicked off and woke up wondering what had happened.

"All I was saying is that Oasis are one of the greatest f***ing bands in the world and I would love to be able to be in their position one day."

He also spoke of bandmates Andy and Liam, saying there is nothing they could ever do to put their friendship in jeopardy.

Tom said: "They are closer than family. We have spent pretty much every day together for the last three years since this journey began.

"They are the only ones that know what it feels like to be in this band with me."

Liam Gallagher Off To A Flyer

Noel Gallagher christened Oasis’s mega-gig tour The Summer Of Bigness.

And they rounded off the storming opening shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park over the weekend with famous faces joining the madness.

Top model Agyness Deyn, Mani from The Stone Roses and actor Ralf Little bowed at the Oasis rock altar and went “mad fer” support acts Kasabian and THE Enemy too.

I bumped into Liam after Saturday’s show and he showed me his new range of Pretty Green threads.

The T-shirts come in a classy gift box and the jackets are awesome.

Liam is clearly intent on going up in the world.

He was helicoptered in for the gigs from his place in Cheshire — a flight that takes just ten minutes.

That’s how to travel like a true Rock ’N’ Roll Star . .

Noel Gallagher: "The Stadium Tour Is Going To Be Among The Best Gigs This Year"

Oasis guitarist and singer Noel Gallagher reckons the band’s stadium tour is going to be among the best gigs this year.

Commenting on the line up of Oasis, Kasabian, Reverends and The Enemy, he says: “These gigs are going to be easily the gigs of the year, if not the decade. They are gigs that go down in people’s memories.”

Oasis’ 2009 stadium tour broke all box office records, selling a staggering 500,000 tickets in a matter of hours. The organisers were forced to scramble to put additional nights on sale in both London and Manchester after the band’s two night runs at London’s Wembley Stadium and Manchester’s Heaton Park sold out in hours. Additionally their first ever trip to Sunderland’s City of Light Stadium sold out.

Oasis co-promoter Chris York of SJM Concerts said “This has to be the most tickets ever sold by an artist in the UK in one day.”

If you are a Kasabian fan but couldn’t get you hands on tickets for the Stadium of Light gig, the band will play Newcastle 02 Academy the night before, on Tuesday, June 9. The Leicester rockers will be showcasing songs from their new album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. Tickets £22.50. Call 0191-260 2020

Sicknote! Enemy Gig KO'd By Bug

The Enemy are gutted that they were forced to cancel the opening night support slot on the Oasis stadium tour last night.

The Coventry rockers' frontman Tom Clarke was struck down with chronic food poisoning hours before the show at Manchester's Heaton Park.

Bassist Andy Hopkins said: "Tom's in bed for 48 hours under doctors orders. We don't know what it was that caused the trouble.

Attacked

"He will be back for Saturday's show as we all will as a band. We're absolutely gutted about this and it will make us more determined to blow people's heads off on Saturday. I'll be having down the front with all the Oasis fans this evening."

Tom is desperate to set the record straight with Liam Gallagher, 36, after he attacked The Enemy for apparently slagging off Oasis.

The trio were branded "little f***ers" by their hero after he read an interview in which Tom allegedly called him past it.

Andy, 21, told me "Tom was misquoted. All he was saying was that they are still brilliant now. We are massive fans."

The lads plan to get the drinks in for Oasis and fellow support act Kasabian.

Andy confessed: "We go on stage at 6:30 and we're off by 7:30 so we will be getting the beers in.

"Can't wait to get that head start on the other bands because Kasabian are sound."

But it's not all partying while on tour. The boys have been testing new tunes during soundchecks.

Noel Gallagher: "Most Stupid Question? Am I Still In Touch With Patsy"...

In the words of Oasis chief Noel gallagher: “The Summer of Bigness is upon us.”

I bumped into the rock Lord in the bar of a Manchester hotel during last minute preparations for the first of the band’s UK mega gigs last night.

And the wily old fox told me he was ready to send hundreds of thousands of beer-soaked fans roaring Oasis hits into the sunset this summer.

On the eve of the first of three nights at the city’s Heaton Park he told me: “All the gigs will be special. We’re lucky enough to be playing some amazing places. I can’t wait. The summer of bigness is upon us!”

What a typically amazing Noelism. I’m going to adopt the “bigness” phrase to describe the top gigs and festivals happening this summer.

Crisps

A dose of food-poisoning unfortunately forced The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke to scrap the band’s opening slot last night.

Their place was taken by Reverend And The Makers.

Kasabian were also on the bill.

Noel, brother Liam, Andy Bell and Gem Archer have been gigging all over the world for months.

And Noel has been keeping me posted with the nonsense he’s encountered overseas, including a journalist thinking it was him who married Patsy Kensit in 1997, when it was Liam.

He said: “I’ll relay to you an exchange between me and a South African. They said: ‘Are you still in touch with Patsy Kensit?’

‘Who? Me?’

‘Yes, you! You were married to her, weren’t you?’

‘No, no, that was my brother... Liam’ ‘Oh! Which one are you then?”

What a blunder.

Noel added: “There is no worst thing about touring. Winging around the planet, playing your tunes to thousands of screaming kids.

“Airport security can be a ****er I suppose but the free crisps make up for it.

The band did have a close encounter with swine flu in South America though.

Noel said: “Going into Venezuela was a bit creepy. All the airport staff were wearing masks. It was a bit like a Tale Of The Unexpected. In the end it was only the flu. I’ve done Top Of The Pops flued out of my mind! It ain’t so bad.”

He bought his suitcase home rammed with gifts for his missus Sara, son Donovan and daughter Anais. His haul included badges, CDs, chocs, a football kit and a pair of glass slippers.

Speaking of slippers, Liam launched his own clothing range, Pretty Green, yesterday. The website crashed with the huge demand.

I asked Noel if Liam’s new pal Gok Wan would be analysing their outfits from side of stage.

And his answer was another classic Noelism: “Who’s Gok Wan? A celebrity chef? Is that a real person’s name or an anagram?”

Pure class.

Luckily extra tickets have gone on sale for Oasis gigs at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on June 12 and Wembley on July 9, 11 and 12.

Don’t miss out.

Oasis Deny Feud With The Enemy

Oasis have denied there is any feud between The Enemy, after comments made by frontman Tom Clarke were taken the wrong way.

Liam Gallagher slammed Clarke on his Twitter page last month, branding the Coventry singer as a "little f***er", when he thought Tom had insulted Oasis.

The Enemy should have been supporting the Gallaghers when they perform a huge Manchester show at Heaton Park today (June 4), but Tom had been struck with food poisoning.

Writing on his 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' blog today, Noel Gallagher writes: "The Enemy have pulled out of tonight's show. Tom's got food poisoning. Shame. Was looking forward to seeing them for the 1st time."

"While I'm on the subject of The Enemy. There's been an attempt by the NME to try and start some juvenille, pathetic feud between the bands in the run up to these gigs."

"Can I assure everyone that there is not and never will be anything between the working classes and its heroes."
