Liam Gallagher “I Never Had Any Problem With Blur”

Despite their infamous Britpop rivalry, Liam Gallagher has said that he ‘never had a problem’ with Blur – and added that they’re ‘madder than Oasis these days’.

In a new interview, Gallagher shared a fond memory of a recent run-in with Blur bassist Alex James.
“I saw one of them the other night at some awards do,” Gallagher told Q Magazine. “What’s the bass player called? Alex. He had a pair of shorts on. I think it was the first day back at school. They’re madder than us these days. He was completely off his fucking box.”

Noel Gallagher too has appeared to bury the hatchet with Blur in recent years. Not only have he and Albarn performed together on a number of occasions, but Noel lends guest vocals on Gorillaz‘s new song ‘We Got The Power’ with Savages‘ Jehnny Beth. Now, Liam has downplayed their Britpop feud – but declared that he’s still quite far away from a Gorillaz guest spot.

“I never had any problem with Blur,” he continued. “The rivalry was all a bit of a laugh for me. But you still wouldn’t catch me doing backing vocals for Damon Albarn.”

Blur's Alex James Would Like Nothing More Than To See Oasis Reform

Singer Alex James says he would like nothing more than to see Oasis reform because the band still has much more to offer. And the band’s own Liam Gallagher agrees, as he is willing to bring it back from the dead if only his older brother, Noel, would put their differences aside.

The Blur singer, whose own group split in 2003 and subsequently bounced back in 2008, is hoping that his former rivals would work out their brotherly problems someday.

Alex told Yahoo Celeb: “I really do hope they do get back together. It’s a wonderful thing. When you’ve got something that’s so important in your life it’s really horrible to be estranged from it really.

It is kind of heartbreaking. It would be a shame to think it was lying dormant or it was never going to happen again. It’s a really precious thing, it’s a craft and it would be a disaster to think it would go to waste.”

The singer’s desire to see an Oasis comeback may come as a surprise to fans, considering the two were once huge rivals. However, he is positive there is nothing short of mutual respect nowadays.

When asked whether he ever runs into Noel or Liam, he revealed: “Yeah occasionally, I think both bands sort of really earned each other’s respect in the end. I certainly respect them.”

Pizza Pilgrims Is Giving Away Free Pizza If You Bring In An Oasis CD

If you're short on cash but you've got a huge stash of old Britpop CDs, and you love pizza, it's your lucky week.

Pizza chain Pizza Pilgrims have created a limited-edition addition to their menu using cheese by Alex James, Blur bassist and current cheesemaker, called the 'Song (Blue)' (like the Blur hit 'Song 2', geddit?).

As well as a tasty new topping, the collaboration is offering an amnesty to Oasis fans. If you've got one of the Gallagher brothers' albums, dig it out and take it to your nearest Pizza Pilgrims, because they're putting to bed the Blur vs Oasis feud that dominated mid-'90s Britpop, with free pizza in exchange for your old Oasis CDs.

From September 13 to October 4, every person who hands over an Oasis CD and orders the Song (Blue) pizza will get their food for free. Some Might Say that's too good of an offer to miss, so don't let it Slide Away.

The offer is available at all four Pizza Pilgrims restaurants, only on the Song (Blue) pizza.

Alex James Hopes Oasis Get Back Together So They Can Support Blur

Blur's Alex James has spoken about the band’s rivalry with Oasis in a new interview, suggesting that the former adversaries could play a gig together in the future.

Last month, Liam Gallagher named Blur's 'Lonesome Street' the "song of the year". Now, Blur’s bassist has said that Damon Albarn and Noel are "quite good friends", adding that he hopes the Gallaghers reunite and tour.

Speaking about the thawing in the two bands' relationship, James said: "Liam's come out and said ‘Lonesome Street’ is his favourite song of the year, God bless him. And Damon and Noel are quite good friends now. So, I think, let's focus on the positives. It's lovely that it's got a happy ending. I hope they get back together. They can support us."

Blur bassist discusses Noel and Damon Albarn's newfound bromance

Alex James described Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn as "best buddies" while appearing on XFM Breakfast with Jon Holmes this morning (April 10).

Holmes told the Blur bassist-turned-cheese-maker that he had introduced the pair onstage the night they played together at the Royal Albert Hall, leading James to reveal: "They've been, like, best buddies ever since."

Asked what he made of their friendship, James added: "I think it's a lovely, lovely ending. They have got quite a lot in common, and they obviously enjoy each others company. It's a nice way to end. I think I still annoy him a bit, but I really try not to!"

In this week's NME, on newsstands now and available digitally, Albarn reveals that making an album with Noel Gallagher is a "distinct possibility" in future.

"I still see Noel from time to time. We text a bit," Albarn says. When asked if the pair would be making a record together, he replied, "I can imagine that being a very distinct possibility at some point in the future. But, as yet we haven't really talked about it, although…"

Albarn continues: "OK we have a little bit. We're talking. It's not anything to get excited about yet. I mean, he's doing his thing. He's finishing a new record. I've got my record coming out, but the principle of us making music together is something…you know, it would be fair to say, we have discussed it at least once."

Noel Gallagher On Damon Albarn Collaboration Rumours

Noel Gallagher has denied that he has been working on new material with former Blur rival Damon Albarn.

Earlier this year, Albarn and Gallagher put two decades of Britpop animosity behind them when they performed together at London's Royal Albert Hall for a Teenage Cancer Trust gig. Albarn's bandmate Alex James has recently claimed the pair are "like best mates now" and even said last week that they are "working together on a lot of stuff".

Responding to these comments during an appearance on talkSPORT Radio on Thursday (August 15), Gallagher said: "I read that Alex James said that - [but] it's news to me!"

However, Gallagher confirmed that he has started work on a new Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album. "I've got tons of songs left over from the last one. I'm writing, putting stuff together. Yeah, I'll definitely make another one, that's for sure," he said. "I don't wanna go back out on the road, though - that's the thing."

Discussing his reluctance to hit the road again, Gallagher explained that his last tour lasted for 15 months and added: "I only stopped touring last year. I wouldn't wanna go and see me once every two years - I've got no stage presence, there's nothing going on." However, he then conceded "I got into it though... yeah, I'll have to go on the road again."

During the interview, Gallagher also ruled out the possibility of reforming Oasis to mark the 20th anniversary of the band's debut album 'Definitely Maybe' next year (2014), saying: "No, it definitely won't happen."

Noel Gallagher On Oasis Comeback And Confirms Second Album Is In The Works

Noel Gallagher has once again dismissed the idea of Oasis reuniting, but added: "Who knows what will happen in 20 years?"

The star, who has released one solo album since the band's split in 2009, was speaking to Andy Goldstein's talkSPORT radio show about the new Premier League season when he was asked about an Oasis comeback.

"It definitely won't happen," said Gallagher. "Look, who knows what will happen in 20 years? But 20 years from now, I'll be what, 30, 40? No, I'll hopefully have retired by then."

Asked what it would take for Oasis to reunite, given Gallagher is already a multimillionaire, he replied: "If I felt like it. Yes, [it'll be my decision]."

The guitarist also spoke about plans for a second solo record, confirming that he has one in the works.

"I've got tons of songs left over from the last one. I'm writing, putting stuff together. Yeah, I'll definitely make another one, that's for sure. I don't wanna go back on the road, though - that's the thing," he added.

Of reports he is working with Blur's Damon Albarn, Gallagher revealed: "I read that Alex James said that - it's news to me!"

Liam Gallagher recently told Digital Spy that an Oasis reunion will happen if the "musical gods" want it.

"Me and our kid [Noel] still don't speak," Liam said, "Gem [Archer] and the lads still speak."

Guitarist Andy Bell added: "It will come down to a conversation."

Noel Gallagher And Damon Albarn Are Working Together On New Material

Alex James has said in a recent interview that Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn are working together on a lot of stuff.

Taken from an interview with sziget.hu.

How serious was the rivalry between Blur and Oasis, or was it just an excuse for the British music media?

Alex: Damon and Noel Gallagher are working together on a lot of stuff, so whatever was back then is not relevant anymore. But we have to add that young bands today are all very nice. We were totally intolerable.

Noel Gallagher And Damon Albarn Are “Like Best Mates Now”

Former Britpop adversaries Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn are best buddies now, according to Blur bassist Alex James.

Speaking to Irish radio host Ray D'Arcy, Alex James said: "Ironically Noel and Damon are like best mates now. They go off and smoke cigars together. I think we realised we we're all on the same side eventually."

Damon and Noel had a rather rocky relationship (to put it lightly) in the 90s, as they were both the figureheads of Blur and Oasis respectively, two of the largest bands in the UK at the time. Noel famously said that he hoped Damon would "catch AIDs and die", and Damon accused both Noel and his brother Liam Gallagher of being bullies. However, the pair have buried the hatchet and even joined each other onstage earlier this year for a performance of Blur's 'Tender' - although Noel couldn't do so without getting one last dig in, saying that he only offered to join in because the song was "easy to play on guitar".

James also spoke of Blur's break up and subsequent reunion, saying: "It was 2003 when Blur really kind of stopped. And it had been 15 years of us doing the same thing, just the four of us. That's a long time. I think we just all needed to go off and do other things. We've all worked with other people. So when we come back to play together I think we do it just because we want to – there's no pressure… It's actually the best thing we ever did, splitting up."

He continued: "Back in 2009 when we got back together, they were the best shows we'd ever done. And I think we all thought that was a good place to leave it, maybe. Then we got the call to do this big show last summer to mark the end of the Olympics and I think we all felt we can’t really say no to that. It's such an honour to be asked. And it was so brilliant, we thought what's not to like?"
