Noel Gallagher Competing With Bono And Chris Martin To Write ‘Greatest Song Ever’

Rock star Noel Gallagher has revealed how he is vying with Bono and Chris Martin to write the greatest song of all time.

He opened up about his friendship with the Irish singer in a new Rolling Stone interview and disclosed how he has dubbed him, Father Bono.

The Oasis legend, who has just released his latest album, said he loves socialising with the U2 frontman.

He said: “Of all the people I know, he’s the most fun to hang out with, for sure. He’s a funny fucker, and he can drink.”

He also revealed he is in competition with the U2 frontman and Chris Martin to pen the ultimate song.

“I still think tomorrow might be the day that I write the greatest song of all time. It’s like going fishing.

“The guitar is your fishing rod, and if I’m not fishing for that song, Bono will get it, and if he’s not, Chris Martin will.

“And fuck those two guys, because they’ve got enough. We’re all fishing in the same river, and its cut throat”, he told the music bible.

He is amazed at the interest the U2 frontman takes in the making of his albums for his new band, the High Flying Birds.

“He’s got big ideas — for his band and for my music as well, which is astonishing. He’s always giving me titles for songs and albums. I call him Father Bono.”

The outspoken British singer said he liked U2’s new album but named Joshua Tree as one of his favourite albums of all time.

“I like (Songs of Innocence).

“Some of the greatest moments of my musical life have involved U2. Anybody who doesn’t like The Joshua Tree is a c****ucker, for a start.

“And anybody who went to see the Zoo TV tour and didn’t think it was the greatest of all time at that time is also an idiot.”

He doesn’t have the same praise for Ed Sheeran who walked off with the gong for album of the year at the Brit awards.

But he explained a recent comment, stating he didn’t want to live in a world where Ed Sheeran was headlining Wembley Stadium, had been said in good humour.

“He’s all right, Ed. He took it with good humour which is how it was meant.

“I was bemoaning the fact the biggest rock bands in England can’t even sell out Wembley, and yet pop music can. Modern pop music is bland nonsense. There isn’t even a word yet that’s capable of describing it. If it was a colour, it would be beige.”

He also likes superstar band One Direction but he doesn’t understand why they collaborate with songwriters for the hits on their albums.

“I know Harry Styles. We’ve hung out a couple of times. They’re lovely lads.

“But I’ve got to say, I have difficulties with people who don’t write their own songs, who’ve got a team of songwriters who work for your record label.”

Ed Sheeran And Noel Gallagher Have Kissed And Made Up

Ed Sheeran and Noel Gallagher have had the shortest feud ever.

According to Ed, the pair have already kissed and made up after their fallout last week.

The Oasis rocker, 47, said of the flame-haired singer: “I can’t live in a world where Ed Sheeran sells out Wembley stadium.”

But it’s all water under the bridge for Ed, who texted him as soon as he saw the interview in NME.

The Thinking Out Loud superstar, 23, said: “I read what he said, I texted him because I have his number and asked him if he’d like some tickets.

“He wrote back, ‘You cheeky so and so. My daughter would love some.’”

Ed added: “He’s always going to be the guy who’s outspoken. I wasn’t offended. I found it quite cool to be in his interview.”

But despite being pals with Hollywood A-listers like Jennifer Aniston, 45, and Taylor Swift, 25, Ed isn’t about to up sticks and move across the pond.

That’s because he reckons the Press here keep him grounded.

He told Radio 2: “I get a lot of stick from Press and people, but it’s good to get stick. That’s why Americans go off the rails. Ego wise you are risen and risen and risen. Your ego grows.

“If you speak to anyone from Adele to Chris Martin, they would say they are grounded cos they get a hiding from press.”

Noel Gallagher Jokes The Next Coldplay Album Will Be Hand-Delivered By Chris Martin

Noel Gallagher has postulated a scenario in which copies of the next Coldplay album will be hand-delivered by Chris Martin – and come with a free tenner.

Gallagher was speaking to Radio 4's John Wilson for the series Mastertapes, in which the former Oasis guitarist discussed the making of 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds', his 2011 solo debut. The programme will be broadcast at 11pm today (December 8).

Asked for his opinion on U2's iTunes giveaway of new album 'Song Of Innocence', Gallagher said: "I don't agree with music being given away for free because it costs a lot of money to make a record. Look, [U2] obviously don't need the money, good for them, but it's not something that I would ever consider…"

Asked if the move undermines the value of music, Gallagher replied: "It doesn't undermine the value of my music, no, so does it undermine the value of theirs? I don't know. A lot of people go to see them live and they're brilliant. If anything, they've gained two new fans in my sons, who since then have become mega-fans."

Discussing the shift in the music industry, Gallagher said that the trend started with Radiohead's 2007 album 'In Rainbows', which could be purchased for a nominal fee online.

"All this started with Radiohead didn't it, and people have been reacting to that ever since... I remember the Kaiser Chiefs were like, 'Make your own record, we'll give you a pound.' What? You're giving people a pound?! It remains to be seen how Coldplay react to it. I firmly believe we'll all get a knock on the door at some point over the next two years and Chris [Martin] will be stood there. And he'll say, 'Alright man, you know, here's a Coldplay album.' And you'll go, 'Thanks.' And there's a ladder and he'll say, 'Bass player's just fixing the guttering, Johnny's round the back, he's doing the gardening and I think Will's going to put the recycling out, so enjoy.' And then he'll come back and say, 'Oh, I forgot – here's a tenner.' Who knows what's going to happen. But for the record, no-one's getting anything out of me for free."

Hidden Hearing Responds To Noel Gallagher Revealing Battle With Tinnitus

Experts in private hearing healthcare, Hidden Hearing, have responded to news that rock star Noel Gallagher is suffering from Tinnitus.

The High Flying Birds front man and former Oasis guitarist revealed he is experiencing constant ringing in the ears, during a recent interview with Talksport DJ Andy Goldstein.

Diagnosed by doctors, he joins other music stars including The Who’s Pete Townshend and Coldplay’s Chris Martin who also suffer from the condition after years of playing loud music shows.

The guitarist revealed he has had a brain scan to get to the bottom of the constant ringing in his ears.

Tinnitus is characterised by ringing, buzzing or whistling in one or both ears, when there is no external sound causing it. Around one in ten people suffer with Tinnitus in the UK.

A spokesperson from Hidden Hearing said: “By Noel Gallagher and other celebrities talking about their experience with Tinnitus, hopefully we will see more people aware of the condition and taking steps to protect their ears from damage and hearing loss. For those that already suffer from Tinnitus, we feature a range of tips and advice on our website to help ease the symptoms of the condition.”

Noel Gallagher Reveals His Tinnitus Agony

Noel Gallagher is a huge fan of The Smiths – but his love of Morrissey doesn’t extend as far as wearing a hearing aid in his honour.

The former Ooasis star has been for a brain scan as doctors try to get to the bottom of the constant ringing in his ears.

Funnily enough, they told him it could be down to playing a guitar at ear-shatteringly loud volume for the best part of 20 years.

So well done, Harley Street doctors — give yourselves a pat on the back for that diagnosis.

In all seriousness, though — it can be a nasty one.

The Who’s Pete Townshend suffers from tinnitus, as does Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

Speaking on the one and only Andy Goldstien'ss TalkSport show, he explained: “I went for a brain scan. They did find it!

“I’ve got bizarre ringing in my ears. I think it’s just through playing guitar for the last 20 years so I had to sit in a tube in the hospital.

“It’s an accumulation of many things but I’ve had a bloody great time doing it all and if I do eventually die of brain disease it will have been worth it.

“The funny thing is they give you these headphones and I chose classical music.
“It came on and it was the exact music I play to my little kid when he goes to bed. I was in there for 25 minutes.

“It was horrible. I know what the results will be — ‘There is nothing wrong with you’. It’s another way of fleecing money out of you.”

Noel had the hump on Goldstein’s show the other week about the cost of dental hygienists. It sounds more like Saga Radio.

Good old Goldstein, a friend of the column, chipped in with his own story about his bad back.

Noel poked fun at him and sidekick Jason Cundy, calling them the Frank Lampard and Stevie Gerrard of broadcasting.

Andy asked who the singer would rather be and Noel said: “Lampard or Gerrard? Lampard’s got the better bird.”

Christine Bleakley's got her own money as well — which would appeal to Mr Gallagher and his purse strings...

Roger Daltrey: Oasis Will Be Back In Four Years

The Who legend has told Xfm he reckons Liam and Noel will be reunited within four years....

Talking to Xfm's Gordon Smart on Smart on Sunday Roger Daltrey said he has no doubt that the band will be back together sooner than we think.

"You know damn well that they'll be together - I predict within four years. And it will be magic. They'll be bigger than ever and they'll be drinking twice as much," he put forward.

Liam Gallagher is one of those in the running to be named Xfm's Greatest Frontman of All Time.

Last week saw thousands of you voting and this morning we named the shortlist of twenty - as voting continues to put them in order.

See the shortlist>>>

So who would Roger Daltrey be voting for?

"The [best] frontman of all is no doubt Mick Jagger. Close second Freddie Mercury. And then pre-him in the early rockers I would say Chuck Berry and, of course, Elvis. I like Coldplay, I like Chris, I think they're great. Last time I saw them he was doing all this amazing running about... I kind of thought they were better when he didn't!"

The Who frontman also revealed to Gordon that he's going to feature on a new Beatles covers album.

"They're doing a Lennon/McCartney tribute album with different people singing the songs and they asked me to Helter Skelter - which nobody wanted to do [laughs]. Oh it's brutal!"

Roger Daltrey is the patron of the annual Teenage Cancer Trust gigs in London.

Noel Gallagher To Appear On Coldplay Album?

Noel Gallagher is set to appear on the next Coldplay album.

The 'Dream On' hitmaker impressed Chris Martin with a sound loop he created as they rehearsed for their collaboration on 'AKA... What a Life' at the BRIT Awards on Tuesday (21.02.12) and now the musical sample looks likely to be used on one of the group's new songs.

Coldplay's roadie revealed on their blog: "Their tune kicks off and Chris is unsure quite how he's going to fit his piano into the fearsome wall of sound. With a little work though, it all starts to come together.

"The piano is right next to Noel's amps. As you'd expect, this is the place to be for getting the full effect of the Gallagher guitar. Noel stamps on a pedal and starts off a loop of glorious noise. Immediately Chris is on his feet and shouting, 'What the hell is that?'

"Chris has his iPhone out to record it, excitedly proclaiming it the most amazing thing he's ever heard. Noel is laughing as the pedal loops away through the stack. Fast forward to the dressing room on show day and Chris is handing me the pedal responsible for all the fuss. It turns out that Noel has come in and motioned Chris over to his dressing room next door with the words, 'I've got a little present for you...'

"Chris is holding it with great reverence and excitement, 'Can you record what's in here immediately? And then give it Rik? We're going to take it back to the studio and run it through Jonny's rig and mic it up.' The pedal is only the size of a block of butter, but I find myself carrying it through the backstage in both hands as though dropping it could send the whole place up in smoke.

"Where it'll end up, I've no idea, but if it finds its way into a song, Noel could easily be playing on the next record without ever having set foot in the studio. Wonderful madness..."

As well as playing with Noel, Chris and his Coldplay bandmates opened the BRIT Awards at London's The 02 with a performance of 'Charlie Brown'.

Although they only played one song, it took as much work to build the stage as it would for a full concert for the band.

The blog post read: "From a crew perspective, the show was pretty full-on for under four minutes' worth of TV. Huge pyro', lasers, a huge 'orb' crammed with even more strobes, lasers and exploding stuff. Once the band jumped off the stage, the gear was strapped in and the whole stage flown into the roof above the heads of the diners below until the end of the show. Never a dull moment!"

Too Much Champagne Supernova For Noel Gallagher?

Lively rocker Noel Gallagher stuck his head out of the sunroof of a car as he left a Brit Awards after-show party last night.

The former Oasis star looked merry as he gave the V sign and waved to snappers while fooling around with best pal Scully after the Sony Music bash at the Arts Club in Soho, London.

He had earlier been seen drinking with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin at the Mayfair venue.

Noel's actions followed a belting performance at the Brit Awards last night.

Noel performed AKA ...What A Life! at the Brit Awards last night with famous pal Chris hammering away on piano.

The pair were fierce rivals when Oasis and Blur were battling to be the biggest band in the UK during the mid-90s, but showed there were no hard feelings during a warm embrace last night.

Damon said last night: "It's funny to think Blur were last here 17 years ago when we were big rivals. Isn't it funny how we've both mellowed after all these years? We've buried the hatchet."

Blur - who picked up the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award - closed the Brits with an eleven minute set last night.

Damon Albarn And Noel Gallagher Kiss And Make Up

Blur's Damon Albarn and former Oasis star Noel Gallagher put aside their years of Britpop feuding to literally kiss for the cameras at a BRIT Awards after party.

The pair were fierce rivals when Oasis and Blur were battling to be the biggest band in the UK during the mid-90s, but showed there were no hard feelings during a warm embrace at the bash on a boat which left from The O2 arena and headed up the Thames.

Gallagher, 44, kissed both hands of Albarn, 43, before planting a smacker on his lips in front of shocked guests including Professor Green, Cesc Fabregas, Adam Deacon and Coldplay's Chris Martin.

Albarn, who had earlier collected the lifetime achievement award with his Blur bandmates, said: "It's funny to think Blur were last here 17 years ago when we were big rivals. Isn't it funny how we've both mellowed after all these years? We've buried the hatchet."

Chris Martin And Noel Gallagher Team Up For The Brits

The Brit Awards have pulled in some memorable collaborations over the years.

Think Chris Martin and Noel Gallagher team up for Brits doing You Got The Dirtee Love with Dizzee Rascal in 2010 and Justin Timberlake with Kylie in 2003.

But Noel Gallagher and Chris Martin on stage together for the first time this Tuesday will be pure class.

Coldplay frontman Chris suggested the idea to former Oasis guitarist Noel before Christmas and they agreed it would be an ideal way to cap a brilliant year of gigs for both of them.

I asked Noel if the duet was on and he replied with a nod and a wink: "I couldn't possibly comment."

If it wasn't true, the answer would have been: "P*** off, you Scottish fantasist."

A source added: "Chris and Noel have become good pals over the years.

"Noel has a lot of respect for Coldplay. He was blown away by their Glastonbury gig when he saw it on telly. They are both up for doing something special."

Noel, up for Best Male, has a number of tracks he could perform, although no rehearsals have been done yet.

AKA... What A Life! with Chris hammering away on piano would be quality.

I saw Coldplay live in LA last week and they were on brilliant form. They played Beatles song We Can Work It Out at a MusiCares gig in honour of Sir Paul McCartney and it was stunning.

At The Grammys they performed Princess Of China from Mylo Xyloto with Rihanna, which was different class too.

The flashing wristbands also burst into life during Paradise. Hopefully they will do the same at The Brits.

Last night a Brits spokesman said: "There is lots of speculation about the performances next week but we can't confirm anything. You'll have to tune in on Tuesday."

There will also be a ten-minute Blur spectacular to close the show — the longest any Outstanding Contribution act has ever been given on the night.

It'll be a night to remember.

Chris Martin To Join Noel Gallagher At The Brit Awards

Noel Gallagher will reportedly team up with fellow British rock superstar Chris Martin for his set at this month's (Feb12) Brit Awards in London.

Gallagher is preparing to play his first solo performance at the event at London's O2 Arena, where he is also up for the Best Male award.

And to ensure his set thrills the crowd, the former Oasis star has asked Coldplay frontman Martin to accompany him on piano.

Speaking about the Brit Awards to Bbc Radio 2, the event's host James Corden says, "I'm really looking forward to Noel Gallagher because I don't think he's done a big gig like that before. I think it'll be great, because I don't think he would do it unless he was certain he could show he was the true music god that he is.

"I'm almost certain I'm not supposed to tell you this, but I don't really care, I think Chris Martin is going to accompany him on piano. I just think that will be great."

The Brit Awards will take place on 21 February (12).

Solo Noel Gallagher Battles Coldplay

Noel Gallagher's first hurdle as a solo artist will be having to face Coldplay in a battle of the albums.

The guitarist will have a job on his hands to stay at the top of the charts for more than one week this autumn.

Chris Martin and the band are releasing their latest offering seven days later.

The former Oasis star issues his first solo album, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, on October 17.

It's certain to race to No1, but a week later, on October 24, is when Coldplay have scheduled the release of their fifth collection.

It's not the first time Noel and Coldplay have been involved in a chart battle.

Back in 2005 Oasis' Don't Believe The Truth hit shop shelves seven days before the rockers' third album X&Y.

The reign of Don't Believe The Truth at No1 lasted just seven days.

At least we can look forward to an autumn of brilliant new music.

Chris Martin Covers Oasis' Wonderwall At London Gig

Chris Martin put on a great show at a surprise gig in a small London pub last night.

The Coldplay singer was the special guest at a benefit held at the Boogaloo in Highgate.

Declan Donnelly and Edith Bowman crammed into the tiny boozer to watch the special three-song set.

The singer opened with new track Wedding Bells which he described as "soppy", followed by Oasis' hit Wonderwall in a jokey tribute to one of his harshest critics Liam Gallagher.

Liam Gallagher Does Not Want To Sound Like Coldplay's Chris Martin

Liam Gallagher has taken a pop at Coldplay singer Chris Martin after being advised to change his singing voice by The Who frontman Roger Daltrey.

Gallagher’s dig at Martin came after Daltrey told him he should change his famous gravelly voice.

Gallagher told Absolute Radio: ‘I remember Roger telling me, “Look, you’ve got to warm up”. I was like that, “Warming up, man, are you mental?”. I don’t want to sound like Chris Martin.’

The 38-year-old also said he was confident his new band Beady Eye can be just as successful as Oasis, who broke up in 2009.

The group claim their new album Different Gear, Still Speeding is the result of their new, more democratic mode of functioning.

‘Noel [Gallagher] always had in mind what the album was gonna be. But this time round, on this record the four of us were really on the same page,’ Liam said.

Guitarist Gem Archer added: ‘I already feel it's special. We don't want to squeeze the life out of it, keep it special.’

Beady Eye begin their British tour in Glasgow on March 3.

Noel Gallagher Spent £1m On 'Beautiful' Drugs

Oasis star Noel Gallagher has spent an amazing £1m on drugs and enjoyed every minute of it, he told an Italian newspaper.

The 42-year-old also labelled Chris Martin from Coldplay an ''idiot'' after he claimed not to have taken drugs and slammed the rival band and U2 for using concerts as stages for "'rock politics".

At the peak of the Britpop era, Noel and brother Liam's hedonistic excesses were well known and their partying was legendary.

Gallagher once revealed he had taken cocaine at a Downing Street reception in a toilet reserved for the Queen.

In his interview with Corriere Della Sera, he said: "I look at Chris Martin who says he has never taken drugs in his life and I think he is an idiot.

"Doing drugs is the most beautiful thing about being in a rock band.

"Up until 1998 I must have spent £1m on drugs then I stopped because it is bad for your health, brain, life and for people around you.

"But while you use them - except for heroin which kills people and which I have never tried - as you lot (Italians) would say 'Mamma Mia'."

Turning to bands who used concerts to get across a political message, Gallagher stormed: "We get on the stage and play.

"I have been to loads of concerts where bands don't play they just talk about politics.

"At a U2 or Coldplay concert there is always a message about poor people or people dying from hunger.

"OK, but can't we just have a nice evening? Do we always have to feel guilty?"

Gallagher - who with the rest of Oasis met Tony Blair several times at the height of their fame - also spoke of his own political views and said: "I grew up with Labour in opposition.

"I heard their policies on education and minimum wages and I thought they were right.

"Then they got into government and wow, I got to know them.

"Then as time passed they became like all the others - it was like when you find out Father Christmas doesn't exist.

"I don't vote any more - anyway it doesn't matter as nothing will change."

Oasis are due to play three concerts at Wembley Stadium this week and will end their current tour in Milan on August 30.
