The Stone Roses gigs were a special moment for another homecoming hero – in the swaggering form of Liam Gallagher and his band Beady Eye.

Beady Eye played a barnstorming set on Saturday night ahead of the Roses taking to the stage at Heaton Park.

And Burnage boy Liam delighted Oasis fans by covering two of his former band's songs for the first time with Beady Eye, What's The Story (Morning Glory) and Rock 'n' Roll Star which he promptly dedicated to Ian Brown.

The band also treated the crowds to new Liam-penned song World Not Set In Stone - a song title not unlike something we'd expect from the Stone Roses themselves, we reckon!

Needless to say, Liam signed off the set with typically colourful language, shouting out to the crowds: “You are about to see the best ****ing band in the world, you don't know how lucky you are.”

Liam was later pictured backstage with his wife, former pop star Nicole Appleton, and TV presenter Holly Willoughby, enjoying the Stone Roses gig.

Liam had earlier told Elizabeth Alker in an interview for BBC6 Music that he'd felt "relaxed" about the gig and that he'd even have played support for the Roses if Oasis were still together.

He said: "I'd always had my fingers crossed, I'd have even done it with Oasis, I'm not one of those people who'd say "Im not supporting you cause we're as big as you" or whatever. Life's too short you've got to drop your guard and just have a good time, it doesn't matter who is headlining.

As long as it's happening it's great, I'm dead happy." He revealed Beady Eye's new album is "going great" and he said he hopes that both Beady Eye and the Stone Roses will both release new albums next year. "That'd be nice," he said.

Liam Gallagher On Sking, Italy, Argentina And More

Notes From A Traveller: Liam Gallagher

When I was younger, we were always dragged to Ireland kicking and screaming for our holidays as me is from County Mayo. It was good hanging out with my cousins on tractors in the countryside. There wasn't much else to do.

At heart I'm a big kid and visit Disneyland every year. I'm not into roller coasters - they freak me out. My favourite ride is Soarin', which has a huge screen and movies are projected round you as if you're hang-gliding over the San Francisco bridge.

La Bombonera, the football stadium of the Boca Juniors in Argentina, has to be one of the most atmospheric places I've ever played a gig. It was just mental. There were 60,000 kids screaming, dancing and singing along.

Villa d'Este in Lake Como, Italy is one of my favourite places to visit with the misses - we just mess about on boats. The food is mega: pizza and spaghetti bolognese, which is out of this world. The Black Cat (ll Gatto Nero) has great views other looking the lake.

Henley-on-Thames has a good little vibe to it - it's picturesque and there are lots of young people there. Oasis used to record round the corner so we'd go out for a beer after recording, head through Marlow and think, 'This is nice'. I've got a place for Henley by the river and every time I visit it's like going on holiday.

If I had to choose between sun and snow it would be snow. I like the cold seasons and could never spend Christmas in a hot country. Extreme weather sports are not for me. Once someone convinced me to go on skis in Switzerland. Going downhill was a nightmare and I may have fallen over a few times. Afterwards, I couldn't walk for a month.

Carnaby Street in the 1960's is the inspiration for my clothing range Pretty Green. All the bands who've records I bought over the years - the Beatles, the Stones and the Kinks - would pick up their clothes in that part of London and mooch about there. Ive tried to capture that personality and rock 'n' roll vibe while at the same time offering something that feels modern and cool.

Pictures of the interview can be found on our Twitter page here.

Liam And Nicole Gallagher Can't Agree On Music

Celebrity couple Liam Gallagher and Nicole Appleton can't agree on what music their young son Gene should be listening to - because mum fears he's force fed The Beatles and dad can't stand Kiss.

In the pair's first joint TV interview in Canada's George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight show, Gallagher revealed his wife has "a funny taste in music", while she confessed she's tired of hearing nothing but the Fab Four.

She says, "As much as I love the Beatles, that's all he plays... I love a lot of old rock music like The Scorpions and Loverboy... and Kiss."

And the former Oasis frontman is not a fan of Gene Simmons' rock act, explaining, "I'm sure they're a big band and that, but guys in make-up don't do it for me - and guys that are very tall, a lot taller than me, in make-up certainly don't do it for me."

And music isn't the only thing that the couple disagree on - Appleton admits her young son's love of drumming drives her crazy.

Gallagher has bought little Gene his own kit and admits he often opts for "the peace and quiet" on the road, touring with new band Beady Eye, because he can get away from his boy and his hobby.

But Appleton adds, "He's good, but it drives me mad."

Nicole 'I Understand Gallagher Feud'

Liam Gallagher's wife Nicole Appleton understands the ongoing feud between the rocker and his estranged brother Noel - because she has had bitter battles with her sister and former All Saints bandmate Natalie.

Appleton insists she has never witnessed any fights between the warring Gallaghers, who haven't spoken since guitarist Noel quit their band Oasis in 2009, but Liam has seen the sisters quarrel.

In her first joint interview with her husband on Canadian TV show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, Appleton says, "I've never really witnessed anything between Liam and Noel... maybe phone arguments... but he has witnessed Nat and I fight."

She is also convinced touring puts extra pressure on sibling relationships, adding, "The pressure of everything builds up. It's never anything serious that you fight over... These wars get built up over nothing.

Liam Gallagher's Wife Forgets He Is A Rock Star

Nicole Appleton forgets her husband Liam Gallagher is a rock star.

The former All Saints singer doesn't recognize the ex-Oasis forntman's persona as a wild hellraiser because he's so "normal" when he's at home with her and their 10-year-old son Gene.

Nicole - who has been in a relationship with Liam since 2000 and married him in February 2008 - said: "He's so normal. And he's so Gene's dad. It's funny to think of him as that (a rock star). He's an amazing guy."

The 36-year-old blonde is currently living in Canada with Gene as she presents new TV talent show 'Cover Me Canada' and she was thrilled when Liam took time out from his new band Beady Eye's tour to watch her on the first night.

Nicole Gallagher Says Husband Liam Is Her 'Rock'

Nicole Gallagher has credited husband Gallagher as her "rock," saying that he's flying in from Japan via Abu Dhabi to watch the recording of her new show.

Nicole is one of the hosts on 'Cover Me Canada' that starts on September 18th on CBC.

"He really is excited," she says when her husband's reputation as a hater of all things not Beatles or Stones is brought up. "Of course, Liam was a huge fan of (U.K. reality-TV band) S Club 7 Juniors," she adds with a chuckle.

As for the rumour that Gallagher's current band, Beady Eye, will perform on the show, Appleton says it's not going to happen. "No, he won't (perform)," she declares. "He's not Canadian!"

The Gallagher's Brave The Mud At Reading To Watch Liam Beady Eye Perform

It may have been pouring with rain, with the bad weather turning things into a mud bath, but that didn't stop Nicole Gallagher and her son Gene enjoy a family day out at the Reading Festival yesterday to watch Liam Gallagher's band Beady Eye take to the stage.

The pair watched the performance from the safety of the side of the stage, with Gene protecting his ears with huge headphones as his father strutted his stuff in a camouflage jacket.

Wrapped up warm in a khaki jacket and Alexander McQueen skull-print scarf, Nicole beamed with pride as she watched Liam perform.

Liam Gallagher Takes Supernanny's Advice

Liam Gallagher takes parenting advice from 'Supernanny' star Jo Frost.

The Beady Eye rocker - who has three children, Molly, 13, Lennon, 11, and 10-year-old Gene - and his wife Nicole Appleton met with the childcare expert when she appeared on Alan Carr's 'Chatty Man' show, and admitted they are big fans of her work.

Jo exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I was on the 'Alan Carr' show the other day and I met Liam Gallagher and his wife. They were pleasant, very very pleasant. They both said how they love the work that I do in reaching out and helping the public.

"At the end of the day, celebrity or no celebrity - you're a mum and a dad when you go home. You may be an inspiration in the artiste world but to your daughter and your son you're good old mum and dad."

Liam Gallagher Heads Out In Hampstead

Liam Gallagher has moved quickly to get over the trauma of his stolen hat.

The Beady Eye frontman, snapped while out with his missus Nicole in Hampstead, north London, yesterday, has been testing out potential replacements all week.

Monobrows were raised when it was revealed his black hat, nicked at T In The Park a couple of weeks back, was a cheapy buy from H&M.

Considering how eager fans are to swipe hats from his head, maybe the cheaper option isn't a bad idea.
