Noel Gallagher Refuses To Wear Brothers 'Pretty Green' Label

Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher will not be wearing any of brother Liam's new clothing creations - as he doesn't share his sibling's taste in fashion.

Lead singer Liam launched his Pretty Green label - which includes trousers, hats, cagoules and t-shirts - online last month, and Noel says that his brother will be focusing even more on the fashion line when the band's gruelling tour finishes at the end of August (09).

The brothers' rocky relationship has been highly publicised, with Noel often publicly poking fun at Liam and nicknaming him Romeo - but when asked if his brother's clothing was nice, he quickly replies, "Shall we move on."

Although restraining from being too critical, Noel makes it clear that unlike Liam, he will not be seen in anything from the line.

He says, "He wears it all the time. He wears it all, down to the socks. He's all kitted out."

Noel adds that he has very little interest in fashion, and describes his own style as 'wealthy idiot'. He says, "It's a function, I dress because nudity is outlawed on the street."

Some Might Say Oasis Are Cheap

These are uneasy times and we must clutch at every fil we can, like a squirrel readying itself for hibernation. Imagine the financial pickle, then, that several thousand Oasis fans now find themselves in.

Last month, at a gig just outside Manchester at Heaton Park, more than 70,000 fans flocked to see the band belt out classics like Wonderwall, Some Might Say and Don’t Look Back in Anger. For this dubious pleasure, they each parted with £45 (Dh270).

The problems kicked off at the start of the set when generator problems meant Liam, Noel and the other members of the band walked offstage to boos from the crowd. The boys and their eyebrows waltzed on again 10 minutes later, but difficulties struck back and this time the band was forced to retreat for 40 minutes while stage hands frantically tweaked wires and fixed the situation.

“Really sorry about that,” said Liam when they re-appeared. “This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund.” For those who are acquainted with Liam Gallagher and his charmless utterings, that in itself is something of a feat. He is, after all, the brother who recently told fans at a Coventry gig to stop clapping in time to the music. “This is Oasis, not Simple Minds,” he shouted gracelessly.

Back in Manchester before the evening was out, his brother Noel was fighting back with a more traditional Gallagher tone. “Kind of regret offering you your money back now,” he said bitterly.

The plot thickens. Twenty thousand fans applied for a refund, which has left Oasis facing a bill of £900,000 (Dh5.36m). A promise is a promise though, even in Manchester, and the lengthy process of refunds started last week. But what’s this? The Gallagher brothers have signed the refund cheques themselves, and the cheques – though officially from NatWest – have been amended so they look like they’ve been issued by the fictitious Oasis Bank of Burnage, the Mancunian district where the pair grew up.

In case the fans don’t realise the crafty intentions behind this ploy, a band spokeswoman helpfully offered an explanation. “People can cash them in,” she said. “But they are quite distinctive, so a few people might decide to keep them.”

So after all that, the fans’ quandary is thus: keep the cheques as an investment or cash in their current value and forfeit a piece of Oasis memorabilia. Several have already made their way on to eBay. “I have put it on here for the diehard fans to have one,” explains a seller named purplejo1010. “I have obviously put a reserve fee so that I do not loose [sic] out in any way.” Of course, Purplejo1010, for what kind of monstrous world do we live in if we cannot make a quick buck online?

Other Oasis fansites are rife with discussions over the problem, too. “Colour copy it so you have a copy which looks like the original and then cash it in. Simple!” witters Mike S from Manchester.
Another fan, Black Flag, compares the dastardly duo’s move to that of Salvador Dalí, who used to draw pictures on the back of cheques he would write for restaurant bills so that they would end up framed, not cashed in. The brothers aren’t perhaps in quite the same league, but it’s a touching sentiment, Black Flag.

So for the Gallagher brothers, the moral of the story is perhaps make absolutely sure that you’ve run through a sound check before the start of a gig. They appeared not to have taken this on board before their Wembley show last week when a rendition of Wonderwall was beset with sound problems. On that occasion, however, Noel moved like a viper. “Can I just categorically say no one is getting their money back,” he announced.

For the fans, given the precarious nature of the world’s banking systems, they might find the cheques currently more valuable than cash anyway. According to one of the world’s most comprehensive autograph indices, Fraser’s, the scribble of a celebrity can wield worthy dividends. Since 1997, for example, autographs by a motley groups of names as disparate as Fidel Castro, Princess Diana, Neil Armstrong and Paul McCartney have appreciated more than 1,000 per cent. Get bidding for those cheques on eBay, trophy hunters; to the victor belong the spoils.

Oasis Live In Coventry

Last month's homecoming at Heaton Park in Manchester was marred by on-stage walk-offs and technical difficulties.

But the Gallagher brothers are on their best behaviour at Coventry City's stadium.

However, that's not to say Liam Gallagher doesn't try to stir things up.

Swaggering up to the mic, he dips his head and dedicates Cigarettes And Alcohol to "the real Sky Blues . . . MCFC".

The crowd naturally respond with a barrage of boos following the jibe at their own city's team.

But lairy Liam quickly silences the dissent with the opening line: "Is it my imag-in-a- sheee-un . . . ".

Ever the moody frontman, standing centre stage in a green parka, the younger Gallagher only appears for the songs he sings, occasionally reaching for a tambourine - which he flings into the audience at the end of the set.

He delivers Live Forever with an arrogant sneer that threatens to slip into anger as he orders the audience to clap: "Get your f***ing hands out! We're not Simple Minds!"

Noel, standing to the right of the stage, is more genial, bigging up both support band The Enemy and reformed local heroes The Specials.

Noel also cheekily dedicates The Importance Of Being Idle to himself (" . . . being brilliant and all that . . . ") and nodding with humble respect to the crowd after they out-sing him on Don't Look Back In Anger during the encore.

It's the start of the second leg of their British tour with a sold-out 30,000 crowd - the size of audience other bands would kill to play to.

But it feels as if Oasis are treating this one as a warm-up show before their run of three gigs at Wembley Stadium later in the week.

Oasis are the greatest rock 'n' roll band of their generation but, as they coast effortlessly through '90s classics such as Roll With It, Wonderwall and The Royle Family theme Half A World Away, it makes for a set that feels confident and assured - rather than passionate.

The Oasis Burnage Cheque... A Future Collectable?

Well Oasis claim that the souvenir worthy cheque signed by the Gallagher brothers is bounce proof. So what do you do next? Go and get back your hard earned money and cash it in or save a once in a life time collectible item?

Oasis fans who claimed their money back after the band's disrupted Heaton Park gig now face a dilemma.

Oasis face a £1m bill after more than 20,000 fans took up Noel's offer of a refund over their Heaton Park gig.

Despite featuring the logo of the fictitious bank, the cheques are legal tender and can be cashed normally. But promoters for the gig suggested that some fans may want to keep the distinctive novelty cheques, which bear the signature of Liam and Noel Gallagher, as a memento.

A band spokeswoman said: "People can obviously cash them in. They are quite distinctive so a few people may decide to keep them."

The band's opening night concert in Manchester on June 4 was marred by technical glitches, with two separate power cuts leading to a 50-minute delay resulting in Noel Gallagher speaking to dissatisfied fans from the stage: "Thank you very, very much, this is a free gig - let's have it... anybody who has kept their ticket will get a full refund."

More than 70,000 fans had paid £45 for tickets for the show.

Noel Gallagher And Serge Pizzorno Back England's World Cup Bid

Oasis and Kasabian stars Noel Gallagher and Serge Pizzorno put support behind England`s bid to host 2018 World Cup

With their respective bands set to rock Wembley Stadium over the coming days, Noel Gallagher and Serge Pizzorno showed their footballing colours by taking time out from rehearsals to back England`s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

Serge once harboured aspirations of playing for his beloved Leicester City, and Noel`s passion for football and all things Manchester City is legendary so the pair were keen to register their support at www.england2018bid.co.uk and help in England`s campaign to host the world`s greatest football tournament.

Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher said:

‘Playing gigs in England, and in particular at Wembley, is always an amazing feeling with the fans that come to watch us creating an electric atmosphere. The buzz the nation would create if we were to host the World Cup in 2018 would be incredible – England lives and breathes football, from a professional level through to guys going out for a kick about with their mates and kids in the playground.’

‘I`m proud to be supporting the England 2018 campaign and would encourage the entire nation to get behind it as well.

Leicester City fan Serge Pizzorno said:

‘The entire band is delighted to get behind England 2018. Everyone in England loves football and the tournament would create a huge wave of passion throughout the country.’

‘We`re also really excited about Leicester bidding to become a Host City. The opportunity for England to host a World Cup is really amazing and the thought of games being played at the Walkers Stadium is incredible.’

Noel and Serge become the latest high profile names to join the official support campaign, which was launched by David Beckham earlier this month. It aims to secure two million signatories by the time the official bid is submitted to FIFA in December 2010. To back the bid, simply log on to www.england2018bid.co.uk.

Noel Gallagher "I'd Never Go Solo"

Noel Gallagher has no plans to release a solo album - despite having a bank of songs he's written that aren't right for Oasis.

The British rocker is currently on tour with Oasis following the release of the band's seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul, in October (08), and the only plans he has when the tour ends in August (09) is to take a well earned break.

He says, "Some might say they're all solo albums but they've just got the band's name on the front. There are no plans to do anything after this tour but go on holiday. I've got lots of songs that wouldn't really (suit Oasis)."

Although he has no immediate plans to release the songs himself, the Wonderwall hitmaker is reluctant to give his songs to other artists, in particular Welsh pop star Duffy.

He says, "I'd rather trap my finger in a door (than give her a song)."

Oasis In Wembley First Night Video And Pictures

Rating: 3/5

Blur’s triumphant comeback has left sometime rivals Oasis , who never went anywhere, somewhat in the shade.

Unintentional though it may have been, coming exactly a week after Blur’s Hyde Park triumph , eyes were locked on the Manchester rock band’s Wembley show last night.

The group, now nearing their 20th anniversary, seemed lacklustre – as if they were going through the motions. But thankfully they played some great songs: early ones by Noel like Slide Away and Supersonic, and newer ones by Liam: I’m Outta Time and Songbird, which he dedicated to his very own song bird wife Nicole Appleton. And, of course, the classic ballads such as Champagne Supernova and Half The World Away.

The sound cut out twice during Wonderwall – the first time, it seemed perfectly timed for a sing-a-long.

After a similar thing happened in Manchester last month, and Noel offered everyone their money back (to the tune of £500k), he was clear nothing like that was happening in London: “Can I just say at this point that nobody is getting their money back?” he said, before reiterating the point again, and again.

Although Liam Gallagher is a charismatic front man, his tendency to stand stock still arms behind back make him more of a candidate for the Trafalgar Square fourth plinth than bona fide rock god.

With rumours rife that the band will soon take time out to pursue solo ventures, this could be the last Oasis tour in a while. It was a respectable night of solid hits, new and old, but pesky southerners Blur have still got the edge.

Oasis 'Bank Of Burnage' Refund

Oasis fans who claimed their money back after the band's disrupted Heaton Park gig now face a dilemma.

That's because the refunds are on Bank of Burnage cheques signed by the Gallagher brothers and could well become collectors' items.

Michael Jackson fans who paid in advance for the singer's UK concerts have been offered their money back or a souvenir ticket as an alternative.

Promoters say the Jackson tickets will become collectors' items featuring special images which give them a 3D moving effect. Oasis face a £1m bill after more than 20,000 fans took up Noel's offer of a refund over their Heaton Park gig.

The band's opening night concert in Manchester on June 4 was marred by technical glitches, with two separate power cuts leading to a 50-minute delay.

Speaking to fans from the stage, Noel vowed a refund to those dissatisfied, saying: "Thank you very, very much, this is a free gig - let's have it... anybody who has kept their ticket will get a full refund."

More than 70,000 fans had paid £45 for tickets for the show. But the guitarist later hit out at the large number of 'cheeky' gig goers who took up the offer.

Writing on his blog, he said: "It seems that around 20,000 of you have asked for a refund from that night at Heaton Park. 20,000! So you were genuinely disappointed?"

"I don't recall seeing a 20,000 gap in the crowd. Tsk... some people."

The band were last night starting a three-day stint at Wembley stadium.

Oasis Overcome Sound Blip To Thrill Wembley Stadium

There will be 'no refunds' declares Noel Gallagher as band suffer brief problem

Oasis suffered a short sound problem during their Wembley Stadium show in London last night (July 9) – but Noel Gallagher was quick to quash any refunds.

The band suffered a loss of sound as they performed 'Wonderwall', although with the crowd in full voice the audience ably finished the song.

However following trouble at Manchester's Heaton Park when the band announced their would be refunds from the stage before managing to play most of their intended set, the guitarist was quick to quip there would be no money back offers this time.

"Last time this happened it cost us half-a-million quid, so just to be clear none of you are getting you fucking money back," he declared from the stage. "Not you, not you, not you with the glasses!"

However the problem proved to be just a blip in the set, which saw frontman Liam Gallagher dedicate 'Live Forever' to The Verve's Richard Ashcroft, who was at the gig.

The Gallaghers also had a pop at bandmate Andy Bell's sunglasses, suggesting he "looks like he's just come from the Jackson memorial".

Oasis played:

'Rock 'N' Roll Star'
'Lyla'
'The Shock Of The Lightning'
'Cigarettes And Alcohol'
'Roll With It'
'To Be Where There's Life'
'Waiting For The Rapture'
'The Masterplan'
'Songbird'
'Slide Away'
'Morning Glory'
'My Big Mouth'
'The Importance of Being Idle'
'Half The World Away'
'I'm Outta Time'
'Wonderwall'
'Supersonic'
'Live Forever'
'Don't Look Back In Anger'
'Falling Down'
'Champagne Supernova'
'I Am The Walrus'

Earlier Kasabian, The Enemy and Reverend And The Makers had all performed.

Oasis are now due to play Wembley Stadium again tomorrow (July 11) and on Sunday (12).

Noel Gallagher Loves Take That, Lady Gaga And Girls Aloud

Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher is a secret pop fans, and among his favourites are Take That, Lady Gaga and Girls Aloud.

The Oasis rocker has a secret penchant for the trio of pop acts, but reserved special praise for the 'Back For Good' stars' current 'Circus' tour - which saw them supported by 'Poker Face' singer Lady Gaga.

He said: "Take That are smashing it up with their tour. It couldn't happen to a bunch of nicer lads.

I don't mind Lady Gaga, she has that bra with the things coming out. The name says it all though doesn't it? Unbelievably crackers, but she's got a great voice.

"I don't mind Girls Aloud, Kimberley Walsh is my favourite."

Despite his love of pop music, Noel does not approve of some of his brother, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher's friends.

He said: "The concert we did which was broadcast on TV in 2000 was momentous because Liam had been up all night drinking strong lager with one of the lads from Steps. It was one of the longest shows in history for me, I couldn't wait to get off the stage.

"It's alright if you're hanging out with Bobby Gillespie or someone but when it's like, 'Where have you been?' 'I've been out with Mel B.' It's not right."

Oasis Suffer More Sound Problems At Wembley

Oasis suffered more sound problems at their Wembley Stadium show tonight - with Noel Gallagher joking that no one would be getting any money back.

Despite a triumphant gig in front of their London fans, the sound cut out near the end as the band played Wonderwall.

At first the large crowd sung the lyrics instead of Liam, but there were some boos when they realised it was due to technical problems.

Oasis recently promised to refund up to 70,000 fans after two major power cuts during their homecoming gig at Manchester's Heaton Park.

However this time guitarist Noel joked: "Nobody is getting their money back. No f***ing one of you.

"Not you, not you, not you in the glasses.

"No one with glasses is getting refund."

He then filled time by asking fans for jokes, but ruled any about Michael Jackson as "out of order".

The sound came back after around a minute - as opposed to the half hour delay in Manchester - and the band continued with rousing renditions of Supersonic, Live Forever and Don't Look Back In Anger.

Singer Liam was also on top form throughout the show, baiting the London audience.

To gee the crowd at the start, he asked them: "What's wrong with you Southern soft a***s? Can't you handle it?

"Get some shandy down your necks!"

He got the reaction he wanted as Oasis' greatest hits set - including The Masterplan, Cigarettes & Alcohol and Champagne Supernova - went down a storm

Blur Vs Oasis - Deja Vu

nme_blur_oasis

PRS Music, an organisation which collects royalties for songwriters, has released figures showing Oasis have received more airplay over the past 14 years than their perennial Britpop rivals Blur. When both bands air plays are combined, Oasis hits 'Wonderwall' and 'Roll With It' proved the most popular, at 68% and 12% respectively, with Blur's 'Country House' next up with 10%.

With a reformed Blur headlining Glastonbury and their own Hyde Park shows to great acclaim, and Oasis' biggest ever UK stadium tour about to culminate with three sell-out nights at Wembley, it seems the rivalry between the bands which became known as 'The Battle Of Britpop' still generates many headlines and column inches 14 years after it first reared it's head. So why do both bands still find themselves in constant competition so long after hostilities reached a peak in the summer of 1995? Live4ever takes a look at the history of the rivalry, and why it continues to be the cause of such fascination.

In 1994 Blur led a host of new British bands who were writing music inspired by their homeland, giving a voice to a generation of British music fans who had seen American music and culture becoming more prevalent after the emergence of Nirvana a few years earlier. After an un-distinguised start to their career, Blur's 1993 release 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' began the change in direction for the band, but it was 1994's 'Parklife' which catapulted Blur to the top of the music tree in Britain. Hits such as 'Girls & Boys' and 'Parklife' encapsulated 1990s Britain, and the album went quadruple platinum in the UK. In early 1995 they won the Brit Award for Best Album, while 'Parklife' won Best Single. Blur were the undoubtedly the biggest band in Britain, and at the forefront of a music scene which had become widely known as 'Britpop'.

A week after the release of Blur's single 'Parklife', Oasis finally put out their hotly anticipated debut album, 'Definitely Maybe'. After enjoying increasing success with early singles 'Supersonic', 'Shakermaker' and 'Live Forever', the album cemented Oasis as the hottest new band in Britain, becoming the fastest selling debut album in history at the time. The album fit neatly into the growing 'Britpop' scene and songs such as 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' saw Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher being labelled as the voice of a generation. Their working class roots and fan base were quickly seen to be in direct conflict with the 'art school' reputation of the members of Blur and soon the music press were stirring up a north-south rivalry between the two bands.

By the summer of 1995, Oasis had enjoyed their first UK no.1, 'Some Might Say' and were ready to release second album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'. Blur were also on the verge of releasing their fourth album, 'The Great Escape', who's lead single was set to be 'Country House'. Assuming Oasis would follow accepted protocol and release second single 'Roll With It' three weeks before the album, Blur's management were surprised when the date for release was set for 14th August, nearly two months before the album was due. This meant the release dates for the two singles were now just a week apart and as a result 'Country House' was moved to the same week as 'Roll With It'. The battle had begun.

Opinion is divided on the reasons for Blur moving the release date. Alan McGee has recently said that it was Damon Albarn who made the decision, after being teased by Oasis front man Liam Gallagher at a party shortly after 'Some Might Say' had hit no.1. Others say it was a marketing decision by their management, who felt threatened by the growing popularity of Oasis, which seemed set to transcend the level Blur had enjoyed for a year or so. Whatever the reasons, there's no doubt it was an important battle for Blur to win, and the management seemed to have pulled out all the stops to ensure Blur's success. After a week of intense interest, including an item on ITN's News At Ten, Blur did indeed win, and it seemed they could once again claim to be Britain's most popular band, and could expect to see their new album keep them there. However, Oasis' next single, 'Wonderwall' became a world-wide hit and sales of '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' grew to un-precedent ed levels, finding them success in America and going on to become one of the biggest selling British albums of all time. Next single 'Don't Look Back In Anger' pushed Oasis on further and saw them become the biggest band in the world by the end of 1996. For Blur 'The Great Escape' was a disappointment, suffering from poor sales and was over-shadowed by the runaway success of '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?'. It is now accepted that while Blur won the battle, Oasis won the war.

Not long after, both Oasis and Blur had distanced themselves from the rivalry, dismissing it as nothing more than a story concocted by the music press. Their careers went different ways, with Oasis continuing on through line up changes and a downturn in sales to enjoy a resurgence in popularity after 2005 album 'Don't Believe The Truth', while Blur moved away from the catchy pop songs that had found them success, before singer Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon found success with solo projects.

The recent headlines show that press and music fans alike are still unable to separate the two bands who's bickering so defined a musical era. It should be no surprise. They were the two biggest bands in Britain, brought together for a few weeks by a music press intent on shifting units and an industry keen to exploit the interest it garnered. The battle moved away from music and, rightly or wrongly, was seen to represent age old clashes in Britain such as differences in class, education and wealth. The battle and the two bands who were involved came to epitomise a music scene which entered into the culture of the country, a scene which was mirrored in the worlds of fashion and art, and which even politicians looked to exploit for their own ends. Whether the bands like it or not, while their relevance continues to be re-affirmed by their legions of fans who still care for the music and still buy the concert tickets in their hundreds of thousands, so too will the rivalry remain relevant to the wider public who were so enchanted by the contest which created so many column inches all those years ago. They are two bands who went their separate ways a long time ago, but who will remain forever linked thanks to a media frenzy which so gripped the country in the summer of 1995 and continues to do so to this day.

Oasis To Embark On Wembley Gigs

Noel Gallagher has been telling fans not to expect a Take That style show as Oasis prepare to kick off a series of three gigs at London's Wembley Stadium.

The singer was talking to Radio 1's Chris Moyles about the current tour which has already taken in venues in Cardiff and Manchester.

He said:"We actually go out of our way not to put a show on."

Oasis were the last British band to play at Wembley before its revamp and it's the first time they have returned.

Noel admits that brother Liam has already been trying to tone things down during the tour.

He said: "We were playing the Ricoh Stadium in Coventry.

"I found this hilarious but quite undignified - I was quite angry about it later - in the middle of Shock of the Lightning, 50,000 people have got their hands in the air and he starts shouting at them to stop clapping."

'Stop enjoying yourself'

"I was thinking, 'That's nice - you pay 70 quid for a ticket to be told what to do by the singer'.

In a mocking tone he added: "You! Stop enjoying yourself - no clapping in between these songs."

Noel was very complimentary about support acts The Enemy and Kasabian and thinks the latter have potential to do their own stadium tours.

He said: "It must be great for the kids to see Kasabian and The Enemy and us in one night.

"Kasabian have been going down just amazing. If they're not doing stadiums next time out, somebody will have messed up there."

Noel says the band have taken three songs out of their set, including The Meaning of Soul and added three songs.

'Atrocious album'

The band open with Rock 'n' Roll Star and finish with I am the Walrus with 20 songs in between.

Noel also revealed that he doesn't look back favourably at the band's 2000 album Familiar to millions

He said: "I think it's atrocious.

"If you were involved around the circumstances of actually trying to make that album it was not a very happy time.

"I heard it in a shop in Japan recently and it didn't sound too good to me."

The last time Oasis played in London was at The Roundhouse during the BBC's Electric Proms in 2008.

The band have got a host of appearances lined up this summer including Spanish festival Benicassim and V.

Noel Gallagher Tells Off Liam Ahead Of Oasis' Wembley Shows

Guitarist has a pop at singer for telling fans not to clap

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has had a dig at his frontman brother Liam for ordering fans about at a recent stadium show.

The Manchester legends are set to play London Wembley Stadium tonight (July 9), Saturday (11) and Sunday (12) – although Noel revealed that when the band played at Coventry's Ricoh Stadium on Tuesday (July 7) he was unhappy with the singer's treatment of fans.

"In the middle of 'The Shock Of The Lightning', 50,000 people have got their hands in the air and he starts shouting at them to stop clapping," Noel explained to BBC Newsbeat.

He added: "I was thinking, 'That's nice – you pay £70 quid for a ticket to be told what to do by the singer. 'You! Stop enjoying yourself - no clapping in between these songs'."

In other Gallagher-related news, Oasis have commissioned Sheffield artist Pete McKee to create a one-off poster design for their Wembley Stadium shows.

Oasis Hire Ex-SAS For Gig Protection

Oasis are calling in the big boys for their gigs in London this weekend - they've hired ex-SAS men to beef up security.
Noel Gallagher reportedly decided to hire the hard men after being assaulted on stage in Canada last year.

He ended up cracking several ribs after falling on top of a monitor speaker during the attack by a crazed fan.

The band are set to play London's Wembley Arena tonight, Saturday and Sunday.

A friend of the band told The Daily Mirror: "Noel was seriously shook up after he was attacked. It was a freak moment when someone burst through and managed to get on stage. But he wanted to make sure he never had to go through that again."

"So he told Liam and the others that he wanted extra security. And, of course, they agreed - after all it could have been any of them."

"When he heard that a couple of the lads brought in to try out as security were ex-SAS, he knew he was in safe hands."

"They left the service a while ago. But their killer training never leaves them."

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Well, that was much fun. Shit weather though. Still, no one seemed to mind.

Enemy were great. Hometown gig, and all that. They pulled it out of the hat, so to speak.

Bruno seemed determined, and I mean DETERMINED that no one, and I mean NO ONE was gonna enjoy themselves. Very strange. Y'can't keep the kids down though.

A couple of The Specials were in attendance. Lynval and Sir Horace, in fact. Lynval came and said hello. What a dude. And my mate Jamie Carragher. Good lad, Carragh'.

Anyway, look, I gotta go.

In a bit.

GD.

Oasis' Noel Gallagher Pays Tribute To The Specials

Oasis' Noel Gallagher paid tribute to Coventry's 2-Tone legends The Specials at the Ricoh Arena last night.

The Manchester super group - along with Cov Kids The Enemy - performed in front of 40,000 fans yesterday as they completed the Coventry leg of their UK tour.

Noel went backstage with the reformed band earlier this year when the Ghost Town group enjoyed a historic homecoming gig at the Jaguar hall.

And the Oasis legend told last night's sell-out crowd his thoughts on the legendary 2-Tone act.

He told the crowd: "I was here a few months ago. I came here to see the Specials gig.

"They were great with us and allowed us in their dressing room. They're called Special for a reason."

The Specials were in the crowd for last night's gig.

Noel finished his tribute by asking for an ovation for the Coventry favourites, which promptly brought the house down.

Noel Gallagher Compares Michael Jackson To Jade Goody

And says the King of Pop's death is 'dragging on a bit'...

Noel Gallagher has taken a a cheeky swipe at the intense media interest surrounding Michael Jackson's death saying it's “dragging on a bit”.

The guitarist even compared Jackson to the late Jade Goody in the 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' blog on Oasis' official website.

Speaking ahead of their performance at Coventry's Ricoh Arena and the day of Michael Jackson's memorial service, Noel said: “This Mike Jackson thing's dragging on a bit, innit? Who do they think he is, Jade Goody?

“Listen out for the dedication tonight. There's bound to be one. If it's during Live Forever I may do a little poo-poo... then vomit.”

Gigwise was at the show and Noel must have been struck with a sudden bout of amnesia as he didn't mention Jackson's name once.

'Oasis Beat Blur In Long-Term Britpop War', Claims Music Industry Stats

PRS For Music figures claim more people listen to Noel than Damon.

Oasis have won the long-term Britpop battle with Blur, PRS For Music has claimed.

The organisation that collects royalties for songwriters, say their figures suggest despite Damon Albarn and co beating the Gallaghers to the UK Number One single spot in August 1995 – when 'Country House' outsold 'Roll With It' after they were released on the same day – it's the northern band who have enjoyed the most exposure since.

Based on PRS' research, Oasis have been listened to more than Blur over the last 14 years when both band's total listens are compared head-to-head.

As a percentage of both groups' combined total plays, the following songs have proved the most popular:

Oasis – 'Wonderwall', 68%
Oasis – 'Roll With It', 12%
Blur – 'Country House', 10%
Oasis – 'Some Might Say', 7%
Blur – 'Beetlebum', 3%

“With Blur performing some storming gigs and Oasis' back on tour it’s like the heyday of Britpop once again," explained Steve Porter, Chief Executive PRS For Music. "These new figures showing that despite Blur winning the original battle, Oasis wins long-term by number of plays. However with both bands still working and their music being widely played the battle continues.”

Odds Are High On Oasis Split

Bookies are offering silly odds on Noel Gallagher leaving Oasis.

The Chief, snapped leaving posh hairdressers Percy & Reed in London yesterday, and brother Liam have been bickering again.

Noel said life would be easier without Oasis. Fair point.

Liam made a Twitter jibe about his big brother joining the Nolans.

Bookies Boylesports reckon the end is nigh.

They now have the Mancs at 2-1 to split before their tour ends in August.

The band’s songwriter and guitarist is also 7/4 to join another group by the end of 2010.

A public scrap gets a generous 4-1. Noel loves a bet.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he lumped on via a pal and made a few quid.

Oasis Rock Coventry's Ricoh Arena

Oasis - the bad boys of rock - swaggered onto stage in front of thousands of diehard fans at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena last night.

A storming crowd of 38,000 waved their hands in the air as they welcomed Oasis to the packed out city stadium.

Revellers chanted their loud and rowdy anthems, including Cigarettes and Alcohol, Roll With It and Wonderwall.

Liam rattled his tambourine and brother Noel raised his guitar as they played Rock ‘n’ Roll Star to an ocean of fans.

They were supported by the city’s most successful rock band, The Enemy, who excited crowds as they belted out tracks like It’s Not OK and This Song.

Oasis, who have already played in their home city of Manchester last month, shot to fame in the 90s selling more than 60 million albums across the world.

It was the only Midlands date on the tour of the UK and was the fastest selling gig in the Ricoh’s history with 20,000 tickets snapped up within its first two hours of sales.

John Corden, aged 62, of Bulkington, in Bedworth, was joined by his nephew David, aged 21.

He praised the band’s rebellious antics on stage. “They’re brilliant. I’ve listened to them for years. They’ve still got it – they’re still selling records and filling stadiums.

“Their arrogance is their appeal and the confidence in their own ability is what makes them great. A lot of bands have it but these guys are very cool about it.

“I came to see The Enemy as much as I did for Oasis – it’s good that we can celebrate two of our favourite bands in one place really.”

Susan Dixon, aged 41, was with her son, Glen, aged 24, and daughter, Toni, aged 19.

Glen said: “It’s was an electric atmosphere. I absolutely love Oasis – it’s makes a change for them to be in the city.

"My favourite tracks of all time is Champagne Supernova – it’s a quality song and sounds even better live.

They’re a great band.”

Electrician John Cave, aged 26, of Rugby, and his close friends are dedicated fans who grew up listening to the band since they were young.

He said: “I followed them since I was 11 years old and I’ve never seen them before. I’ve seen lost of other music groups but they don’t compare to Oasis.”

His best mate, Joe Flanagan, aged 24, said: “I saw them in Heaton and they were great. They are the best band ever because with every song it holds a memory.

“They define a generation - that’s why they’re so popular.

"They triumph in Britain and I finally got to see them in Coventry. It was the best show that I’ve seen them play.”

Chief executive of the Ricoh, Daniel Gidney said: “This was fantastic for us. They are one of the biggest bands in British history.

“We capable of catering for different tastes. Oasis are a modern rock band and we were delighted to have them at the Ricoh.

“The profile of the event was clearly different to other concerts we’ve held.

"There are more blokes drinking beer but we had more stewards on site.”

Oasis are set to play at the Wembley Stadium tomorrow, July 10 and 12.

Review: Oasis @Ricoh Arena, Coventry

It's 13 years since the mouthy Mancunians played to a quarter of a million people at Knebworth, but the Gallagher brothers’ onstage swagger is still justified.

For as the sun went down over Coventry City’s Ricoh Arena, the World’s most famous Manchester City supporters lit up the stadium with a jaw-dropping sound and visual spectacle.

Three giant screens beamed out bright, psychedelic images of the rockers on stage to an audience of 30,000 plus.

They launched into their two-hour long set with Rock and Roll Star, Liam’s voice as powerful and distinctive as ever.

They then ripped through hit after hit from their two biggest albums Definitely Maybe and What’s the Story (Morning Glory) with songs from their later albums punctuating the set.

The only way a band with as many sing-along, anthemic tunes as Oasis can falter is through a lack of enthusiasm borne of too many years playing the same stuff.

Their stage presence and vigour hasn’t waned over the years however and although band members have changed since their Britpop glory days, their tightness and on-stage presence has not. It was the final rousing Oasis anthems Don’t Look Back in Anger and their homage to The Beatles I am the Walrus which sent the revellers who had each paid more than £30 for a ticket into hysterics.

In a nutshell: Commanding, brilliant, catchy – what more could want from a stadium band?
