8 Reasons Why Noel Gallagher Would Be A Hilarious American Idol Judge

As American Idol judge Simon Cowell prepares to leave the program to focus on bringing his X Factor show to the United States, rumours (trial ballons?) about who will replace him have been continually appearing in the media.

Surprisingly, former Oasis singer/guitarist is Noel Gallagher is the latest person to be suggested as the next American Idol judge. Even more surprising is that Cowell himself has said he thinks Gallagher would make a good replacement.

"I know Noel quite well. I like him," Cowell told the Press Association. "He is very funny and a brilliant songwriter — it's a possibility."

Cowell also said Perez Hilton would be a good choice as his replacement. Radio shock jock Howard Stern and Britain's Got Talent's Piers Morgan have also been suggested as new judges in place of Cowell, but nothing's been decided yet.

We think Gallagher's the best choice for the job, and here's why:

1. He will be merciless about pointing out when someone can't sing or when there's music he thinks is rubbish, which will be about 90-something per cent of the time. If you thought Cowell could be mean, just imagine the type of things Gallagher would say. ("Yer fookin' rubbish, get out o' me sight!")

2. Most contestants are going to look at him like scared deers in headlights. They'll also have no what he's saying, since he's got one hell of a thick Mancunian accent.

3. If American Idol's producers want to counter The X Factor, which originated in Britain and will feature Britons like Cowell, I think the best course of action would be to pick a really, really prominent British celebrity, and Gallagher is that. He's also got the necessary acerbic personality and wit.

4. Yeah, we know Gallagher's working on that solo album, but fact is he's got a lot of time on his hands since smashing his guitar and walking out on his brother in Paris last year. If he's continually surrounded by people who are shitty musicians and singers, perhaps it will push him to make a really great solo record and prove to Liam Gallagher that everything Oasis did post (What's The Story) Morning Glory? really was shite.

5. If Noel takes this on, it will be like spitting in Liam's face, and you can be Liam is going to have a field day with it and chew Noel up in the press. Can you imagine the hilariously entertaining bitchfest that will undoubtedly ensue?

6. Every second word will have to be bleeped out. Idol would then be 100 per cent funnier.

7. The image of Noel Gallagher sitting there with a pint in front of him looking incredibly irritated while someone sings Lady Gaga horribly off key is so hilarious in my head that it absolutely needs to become reality.

8. Anyone who expresses admiration for "soccer" will be shouted at and told it's "fookin' football," and anyone who says any team other than Man City is good will be screamed at and told they're an "idjit."

'The Who' Want Liam Gallagher For Charity Gig

Roger Daltrey wants Liam Gallagher to play with The Who at their Teenage Cancer Trust charity show.

The legendary frontman wants the former Oasis singer to join his band on stage when they play their classic 'Quadrophenia album at the conclusion of this year's run of shows for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.

Although Liam turned the opportunity down, Roger is leaving the door open for him to be able to play with the band.

He said to Absolute Radio host Geoff Lloyd: "I actually rung Liam to be part of The Who night, but he's otherwise engaged.

"We've actually got room for two guests, and anyone who wants to turn up and do something after we do 'Quadrophenia', just to round off the night, you know - let's see what happens."

Although he's not secured Liam's services to perform at the series of concerts, two of the other nights will see the first live performances by his brother Noel Gallagher since Oasis split last August

Roger added: "This is the first thing he's done, and he's always been involved with these shows. "In the first year he guested with us on those first shows, and he's done it with Oasis, he's done it on his own, solo. Post-Oasis, it's his first, and it's his only thing planned for the year."

Other artists who are playing this year's Teenage Cancer Trust shows include Them Crooked Vultures, Suede and Arctic Monkeys.

Simon Cowell: Noel Gallagher Could Replace Me On American Idol

Simon Cowell has said Oasis star Noel Gallagher could take over his judging seat on American Idol - if US viewers can understand his Manchester accent.

The TV and pop mogul was quizzed about his replacement on the hit series when he leaves this year to launch an American edition of The X Factor.

Asked whether proud Mancunian Noel would be suitable, Cowell said: "Do you think people would understand him?"

He added: "I know Noel quite well. I like him. He is very funny and a brilliant songwriter - it's a possibility."

Gallagher could have more time on his hands after quitting Oasis last year following a row with his younger brother and lead singer Liam.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Don't Look Back in Anger" is a song by the British rock band Oasis, written by the band's guitarist, Noel Gallagher. Released as the fourth single from their hit second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, on February 19th 1996.

The song became the band's second single to reach #1 in the United Kingdom charts, where it also went platinum. "Don't Look Back in Anger" was also the first Oasis single to feature Noel on lead vocals instead of his brother, Liam Gallagher. The title is perhaps a play on the song "Look Back in Anger", from David Bowie's Lodger album or on the play, Look Back in Anger by John Osborne, from which Bowie's song took inspiration.



Music video

The video for the song, directed by Nigel Dick, features Patrick Macnee, the actor who played John Steed in the 1960s television series The Avengers, apparently a favourite of the band. While filming the video, drummer Alan White met future wife Liz Atkins. They were married 13 August 1997 at Studley Priory Hotel, Oxfordshire but later divorced. Macnee has no recollection of the filming of the video.

History

Noel said of the song, "[It] reminds me of a cross between All the Young Dudes and summat the Beatles might've done." Of the character "Sally" referred to in the song he commented, "I don't actually know anybody called Sally. It's just a word that fitted, y'know, might as well throw a girl's name in there. It's gotta guarantee somebody a shag off a bird called Sally, hasn't it?". Noel claims that the character "Lyla", from Oasis' 2005 single is the sister of Sally. In the interview on the DVD released with the special edition of Stop the Clocks, Noel also revealed that a girl approached him and asked him if Sally was the same girl as in The Stone Roses' track "Sally Cinnamon". Noel replied that he'd never thought of that, but thought it was good anyway.

Noel admits that certain lines from the song are lifted from John Lennon: "I got this tape in the United States that had apparently been burgled from the Dakota Hotel and someone had found these cassettes. Lennon was starting to record his memoirs on tape. He's going on about 'trying to start a revolution from me bed, because they said the brains I had went to my head.' I thought 'Thank you, I'll take that'!" "Revolution from me bed" most likely refers to Lennon's infamous bed-ins in 1969, both in the quote and in the song. The piano during the intro of the song highly resembles Lennon's "Imagine". Like many other popular songs,the chord progression for both the verse and the chorus are based on the classical piece Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel. The songs only differ slightly at the end of each phrase. Gallagher also admits that he was under the influence of substances when he wrote the song, and to this day he claims he does not know what it means.

The song has become a favourite at Oasis' live performances. Noel encourages the crowd to sing along and often keeps quiet during the chorus, allowing the fans instead to sing along while he focuses on his guitar playing. The volume of crowd noise that usually descends on the chorus at concerts is easily audible on the rendition of "Don't Look Back in Anger" on Familiar to Millions. During the Dig Out Your Soul Tour the song has been played acoustically at a slower rate by Noel. Which surprised some fans, but it is still sung by all the fans.

In a 2006 radio interview, Liam Gallagher said that it was he who came up with the line "so Sally can wait" as Noel was struggling with that particular line at the time. Noel confirms this on the bonus DVD, entitled Lock the Box, released with the Stop the Clocks retrospective album. In the interview with Colin Murray, Noel admits, "I was doing it in the sound check and the so Sally bit, I wasn't singing that...and he [Liam] says, 'Are you singing so Sally can wait?' and I said, 'No.' and he said, 'Well you should do.'"

Noel was so excited of the potential of the song when he first wrote it, he used an acoustic set to perform a work-in progress version, without the second verse and a few other slight lyrical differences to the finished version, at an Oasis concert at the Sheffield Arena on April 22, 1995, saying before playing that he'd only written it the previous Tuesday (April 18, 1995) and that he didn't even have a title for it.

No Oasis Reunion For Bonehead

Ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead was, unsurprisingly, besieged by calls this week after frontman Liam Gallagher namechecked him in his controversial acceptance speech at the Brit Awards on Tuesday night.

Liam paid tribute to all former Oasis members – except brother Noel, of course – in his expletive-laden speech for winning the Best Album of the past 30 years for What's The Story Morning Glory, before throwing the gong into the audience.

Founder member Bonehead, who quit the band in 1999, backs Liam's actions all the way.

Bonehead, real name Paul Arthurs, tells me: “I knew we'd won the award and I knew Liam was going along.

“But I didn't know I'd be getting a mention. I'm pleased though – I was involved in that album after all.

“I think good on him for chucking the award into the audience – it sums The Brits up really. I mean Lady Gaga winning? Please!”

But while Bonehead remains mates with Liam he's ruled out ever rejoining Oasis. He's now busy recording an album with his new band The Vortex, with a European tour planned in April.

He says: “Even if I was asked to go back to Oasis I wouldn't do it, even if I was offered £5mn, because I'm totally, totally focused on The Vortex now. I'm glad Liam is going to carry things on though.”

Peter Kay Calls Liam Gallagher A 'Knobhead' Again...

Peter Kay has called Liam Gallagher a “knobhead” again as the BRIT Awards feud rolls on.

Writing on his official website last night, funnyman Kay congratulated Noel Gallagher on his BRIT Award but had less kind words for Liam.

He said: “So it was the Brits last night and I was honoured to be asked to host the show especially with it being thirty years old.

“Congratulations to all the winners, including Noel Gallagher who sadly didn't get a mention (and who thankfully isn't a knobhead).

Liam yesterday reacted to angrily Kay's original jibe, writing on his Twitter account: “Regarding Peter Kay's comment...

“Listen up fat fuck as a real northerner I was brought up 2 say shit 2 people's faces not behind their back. Live forever LG.”

Liam clearly failed to see the irony in the fact that he wasn't calling Peter Kay a “fat fuck” to his face.

Liam Gallagher: Manchester City Need To Finish In Top Four

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has concerns Roberto Mancini will fail to lead Manchester City into the top four this season.

Mancini has lost More games than predecessor Mark Hughes in a Shorter period of time.

And while City celebrity fan Gallagher likes the Italian, he was keen to offer a few selection tips.

Gallagher said: "Stephen Ireland and Martin Petrov should play all the time. We need to strengthen the squad - I'm happy with Carlos Tevez up front but we could do with someone up there with him.

It looks like Brits host Peter Kay was spot on.

Liam "Knobhead" Gallagher was thrown out of the backstage VIP bar minutes after making a fool of himself on stage.

The Oasis star pushed over a girl model who was painted silver to look like a Brit Award.

Fair play to her fella, who was stood nearby and painted gold.

He leapt off his podium and confronted Liam, telling him how out of order he was.

Security jumped in and ordered Liam out. A source said: "It was outrageous what Liam did. It upset a lot of people."

Liam was later "interviewed" by wife Nicole Appleton for ITV2.

Asked about Oasis's award for Best Album Of The Past 30 Years, he said: "I don't think we deserved it, there have been some great albums.

"But if we are f****** going to get invited then I will turn up and have it. I am going to f****** play the game."

Talking about the bust-up with the models, he snarled: "I have been silvered before. I have been pushed over. But I got up and f****** carried on. He is sitting there going, 'Hey, you pushed my bird over!'

"She's silver. I was gold and I was bronze, too, baby!

"Now can we all take loads of Class A drugs?"

Just the chat you expect from a millionaire dad who lives in posh Hampstead, in North London, and jogs every day.

Liam was called a "knobhead" by Kay on live TV after ignoring brother Noel in his acceptance speech then throwing his mic and Brit award in the crowd.

Yesterday, Liam hit back on Twitter: "Listen up fat f***. As a real northerner I was brought up to say s*** to people's faces, not behind their back."

Liam's antics might have raised a laugh ten years ago. But now he is out of date and tragic. Everyone else was having a great time and celebrating a good period in British music.

Noel missed Tuesday's awards at London's Earls Court. But he turned out later to see the War Child charity gig.

He told pals: "I see my little brother made a bit of a fool of himself? What was he doing?

"That was a chance for him to move on and talk about what he's doing now. He didn't even thank the fans properly."

Row Erupts After Peter Kay Swears At Liam Gallagher At Brits

Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom has received complaints over bad language in last night’s Brits coverage.

One complaint objected Peter Kay’s use of the word “knobhead” while the comic hosted ITV1’s live coverage. The remark was directed at Liam Gallagher after a predictably rebellious acceptance speech.

Gallagher swore and hurled a microphone as he accepted Oasis's award for the Best Brits album of the past 30 years for their second album, (What's the Story?) Morning Glory. As he left the stage, Kay remarked: "What a knobhead".

The comment sparked Gallagher to hit back at the Bolton comic today via Twitter, calling Kay a “fat f***”, and adding that “as a real northerner I was brought up 2 say s*** 2 people's faces not behind their back."

Meanwhile, a Facebook group set up in appreciation of Kay's remark has gathered more than 98,000 fans.

Gallagher sparked a second wave of complaints when he was interviewed by his wife Nicole Appleton in ITV2’s live backstage coverage. Just as the interview was coming to an end, Gallagher said: “It was nice, it was nice. Now can we all take loads of class A drugs?"

Ofcom will look into the complaints before deciding whether or not to investigate.

Liam Gallagher 'Livid' With Robbie Williams

Liam Gallagher was reportedly upset when he saw his wife Nicole Appleton talking to her ex-boyfriend Robbie Williams backstage at the Brit Awards last night.

The Oasis frontman picked up the award for 'Brits Album of 30 Years' on behalf of Oasis for (What's The Story) Morning Glory? at the ceremony, while Williams won the 'Outstanding Contribution to Music' prize.

A source told The Mirror of Appleton's conversation with Williams: "Liam was livid. He was muttering and pacing around when he heard that his wife had been reunited with his former arch rival."

Gallagher and Williams have traded insults in the past, with Williams suggesting a televised fight between the pair at the 2000 Brits ceremony.

A Facebook group inspired by Peter Kay's reaction to Liam Gallagher's outburst at the BRIT Awards has already won over 50,000 fans.

The comedian described Gallagher as a “knobhead” after he threw a microphone and Oasis’ BRIT Award into the crowd at the ceremony in London.

Gallagher, who accepted the prize for BRITS Album of 30 Years on behalf of the recently disbanded group, then left the stage.

The Facebook Group - Peter Kay's reply to Liam Gallagher at the Brits – described Kay's response as “legendary”.

The group has already attracted 75,000 fans, with the majority praising the comedian's response.

One fan, Alex Griffin, said: Why was Liam Gallagher swearing and throwing stuff?

Cait Moz wrote: “I dont even get how hes the frontman for Oasis, when he left 6 months ago?!”

But another fan, Lauren Greaves, praised Gallagher: “I ♥ LIAM GALLAGHER.. Oasis well deserved that award, so what he was a little bit arrogant.. you gorra love him ;D”

Oasis' BRIT Award 'Up For Sale On eBay'

A person who claims to have caught Oasis' BRIT Award after singer Liam Gallagher threw it into the crowd has put it on eBay.

The apparent listing, which has already attracted 117 bids, describes the item as “Liam "nob head" Gallaghers brit award”.

The top bid on the auction is currently £999,999, although the seller has yet to list any photos.

Gallagher accepted the award at the ceremony on behalf of Oasis after their 1995 album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory' was named BRITS Album of 30 Years.

Noel Gallagher Checks Out Kasabian At Intimate London Gig

Noel Gallagher may have swerved the BRIT Awards and his brother’s public snubbing, but he put in an appearance at Kasabian’s intimate gig at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire.

The show was in aid of the War Child charity. On the benefit, Noel said: “It’s the least one can do… It’s good to do your bit. It’s good karma and all that”.

Kasabian were joined by Noel Fielding during the gig. The Mighty Boosh star donned his Vlad The Impaler costume to dance with the band.

“It’s good to get an excuse to dress up like Vlad The Impaler and dance with Kasabian”, he said. “[It’s] my favourite thing to do”.

Oasis Win Best Album Of The Past 30 Years At The Brits!

Oasis' album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' won the award for the best album of the past 30 years at last night's Brit Award ceremony at Earl's Court in London. Liam was on hand to pick up the award.

'(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' has sold over 14 million copies worldwide, 4.2 of which are in the UK alone.

The number one album marked the band's first UK number one single with 'Some Might Say' and features live favourites such as 'Roll With It' and 'Champagne Supernova'. It also contains the singles 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. 'Wonderwall', released in 1995, was the band's 8th single in the space of 18 punch-drunk months that saw the band rise from noisy Manchester lads to the most talked about band in the world. These two songs, amongst so many others, have come to define Noel Gallagher's ability to write stadium-rousing anthems, something anyone who caught the band live can testify to.

The Brit Award category was voted for online by the public. The category was open to the best-selling, 'Best Album' winners from the past 29 Brit Awards to celebrate the Award's 30th birthday this year.

Noel Gallagher Mocks Liam's Brit Award Throwing

Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher has mocked his younger brother Liam's antics at The Brit Awards last night.

Acting typically cocksure, Liam threw Oasis' 'Brit Awards album of 30 years' gong into the crowd after picking it up at the Earls Court ceremony.

Leaving Home House in London at 4am this morning where he had been partying with Noel Fielding, Kasabian and Freddie Flintoff, Noel took a swipe at Liam.

In an effeminate voice, Noel did an impression of Liam in front of photographers saying: "ohh look, I've dropped my microphone!"

Liam Gallagher's Class A Drug Rant On ITV2

Liam Gallagher sensationally announced he was going to take Class A drugs straight after an interview he had on ITV2 – unbeknown to him he was still live on air.

The bad boy of Oasis was still in a temper after being called a ‘knobhead’ on ITV’s Brits Awards 2010 by host Peter Kay, just after he collected the award for Brits Album of 30 Years.

Liam, 37, made a spectacle of himself when he accepted the award – thanking everyone but snubbing his own brother Noel – and then preceding to throw not only the microphone into the screaming crowd but his Brit award too.

ITV were forced to make a broadcasting break as the fowl-mouthed singer couldn’t resist adding some ‘f*****g’ words into his speech.

Backstage when the hot-headed singer was being interviewed, he said: ‘I don’t know if we deserved it because there has been loads of great albums over the last 30 years.’

But the real shock came when he openly declared: ‘Now can we go and take loads of Class A drugs?’

The interview swiftly ended but it was too late as audiences had already heard the shock statement.
