Beady Eye, Muse, Foals And More Give Items To Be Sold In Aid Of Typhoon Victims

A host of bands including Beady Eye, Muse and Foals have donated special items to the Help 13 auction to raise money to help the survivors of the typhoon in the Philippines.

Among the list of items up for sale over the coming weeks include signed items by Suede and Pulled Apart By Horses as well as an exclusive collection of original artwork, collectible prints, signed singles and merchandise. The first auction begins today (November 29) and all money raised will go to the Oxfam Philippines Appeal.

Help Auction 13 was set up by Rebecca Vincent, a tattoo artist, who originally wanted to collect pieces from fellow artists and auction them off. Her husband, Pulled Apart By Horses drummer Lee Vincent suggested asking friends in bands to help too, which is when she enlisted the help of film-maker Charlotte Knight, who has worked with numerous bands.

"After the horrific effects of the recent typhoon in the Philippines, we called on friends and colleagues in the world of art and music to donate items and the response has been astounding," Rebecca Vincent said. "More people are getting in touch every day and the list of donations is growing and growing."

Pulled Apart By Horses' singer James Brown said: "Help Auction are helping people in this world that need help fast and now. So, to support something like this is beyond important to us and should also be for you."

Kevin Shields Suspects Liam Gallagher Was Protected By Officials

My Bloody Valentine frontman Kevin Shields suspects Liam Gallagher was 'protected' by the British Establishment during his cocaine-fuelled wildman years in the 1990s.

Shields, who reformed the cult Irish band in 2007 following a 10-year split, hit headlines in October (13) when he urged bosses at the U.K.'s secret service MI5 to open classified files from two decades ago.

He believes there was a secret government agenda to "push" the Britpop movement, with Oasis frontman Gallagher and his brother Noel as its figureheads, and now he has suggested singer Liam was deliberately left alone at the height of his fame on the insistence of the powers-that-be.

Referring to reports suggesting Shields believes Britpop was a "conspiracy", he tells Uncut magazine, "I didn't say that. I said I'd love to see the MI5 files, but I wasn't imagining the files said, 'We must invent Sleeper'. It was more I'd imagine them going, 'Leave Liam Gallagher alone'."

Another On This Day In Oasis History...

Below are a few videos from November 28th 2006, when Noel Gallagher played an acoustic show at the Le Cabaret Sauvage in Paris as part of the promotion for Stop The Clocks.

Performing in front of his smallest UK audience for years, Gallagher backed by Gem Archer on guitar and percussionist Terry Kirkbride, played a mixture of acoustic B-sides and album tracks.

On This Day In Oasis History...

Let There Be Love" is a song on the British rock band Oasis' sixth album, Don't Believe the Truth. Written by Noel Gallagher, it is the second Oasis song to feature Liam and Noel on lead vocals, the first being the B-Side "Acquiesce". It was released on November 28, 2005 as the third single from the album in the UK, and the second single in the US. It reached number two in the UK charts, capping a very successful year for the band. Many critics cited this song as proof that Oasis had returned to form we had seen in the mid-90's.

A demo for the track was recorded during demo sessions for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. A bootleg of these demo sessions was leaked onto the Internet in early 2000. This track was given the unofficial title "It's A Crime" on many bootlegs as the track was unknown and unreferenced anywhere before then. The album version of the song is structurally almost exactly as the same as the demo with a slight change in melody in the part that Noel sings. The lyrics to the chorus remains intact, but the verses and bridge have totally rewritten lyrics.




















The single version of the song omits the second verse and chorus.



A second, Noel-sung demo was released on the "Let There Be Love" DVD single. It has the same lyrics as the album version, and in fact the album version takes some elements from the demo such as the piano. It was probably recorded sometime in 2003 or 2004, prior to the main Don't Believe the Truth recording sessions.

The video is a montage of some of Oasis' live shows during the summer of 2005 including clips of the gigs at Hampden Park and the City of Manchester Stadium. The clips don't actually show the band playing 'Let There Be Love'.

The song has only been played live once, on an Italian radio show in late 2005.

Liam Gallagher Won't Design Clothes For Women

Liam Gallagher has been telling XFM that he won't be designing clothes for women any time soon.

Speaking to the XFM Evening Show's Danielle Perry, the man behind the Pretty Green clothing range claimed he was steering clear of ladies' outfitting.

"I'm enough trouble as it is, mate, than designing women's clothes," he said. "I wouldn't want to start putting shit out that doesn't suit you, or make your arse look big."

Liam also revealed that 2014 would see Beady Eye continue to tour their second album, BE.

"We've got a Christmas break as from Wednesday. We're kept in the dark about what's going on next year. Which is nice, I guess. We just want to do gigs, you know what I mean? We want to get out there playing. Play this album to people, cos we think it's cool."

Liam Gallagher: 'I Don't Know What Spotify Is'

Beady Eye frontman Liam Gallagher has revealed he is not a supporter of Spotify.

Gallagher discussed his opinions on streaming music over purchasing the physical product, admitting that he has always preferred listening to his favourite albums on vinyl, during a discussion prior to Beady Eye's XFM Presents with Ford SYNC session.

Revealing that he has record players "coming out of my ears", Gallagher went on to add: "Listening to it on vinyl is always for me. I don't even know what Spotify is. The first vinyl I ever bought, it really changed my life, got me into music was the Stone Roses album. I remember I bought it in Mr Sifters in Burnage. And then I bought a Greggs pasty right after it. And a big bag of weed. I know exactly what I did that day."

Earlier this month Beady Eye returned to the live stage for the first time since guitarist Gem Archer fractured his skull. The band, led by Liam Gallagher, performed the first night of their UK tour at the Olympia in Dublin, performing tracks from their 2013 album 'BE' as well as Oasis classics and material from the first Beady Eye album, 2011's 'Different Gear, Still Speeding'.

Review: Beady Eye In Leeds

Fresh from scoring their highest UK chart position to date with new album BE, Beady Eye descended on Leeds as part of a headline tour.

 As Liam Gallagher took to the stage it was clear he’d not lost the arrogant swagger that made him such an iconic front man in Oasis.

And kicking off with Brit rock-esque Flick Of The Finger the sell out crowd quickly erupted.

By the time Four Letter Word was thrashed out pints of god knows what were being chucked around the venue as “Beady Eye, Beady Eye” was the chant from a sea of Liam Gallagher look-a-likes.

The more the crowd cheered the more Gallagher looked like he didn’t care which is a massive part of his appeal.

In fact one could have been forgiven for momentarily forgetting Gallagher’s Oasis roots and simply enjoying Beady Eye’s anthemic and experimental tunes.

That was until he declared “sing along if you know the words” and started belting out Oasis classic Live Forever - which clearly attracted the biggest cheer of the night.

Cigarettes and Alcohol was another welcome Oasis track that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

But back to the Beady Eye back catalogue and The Roller seemed to give the crowd a renewed sense of enthusiasm.

A cover of the Rolling Stones’ favourite Gimme Shelter was a welcome encore but I think the crowd was expecting more than one track to finish.

Although there’s no denying that the biggest buzz of the night came the Oasis tracks Beady Eye proved they are a force to be reckoned with on the live circuit.

Noel Gallagher Says The Chances Of An Oasis Reunion Is Absolutely Nil

Give up hope, Britpop fans: The chances of an Oasis reunion are absolutely nil, according to guitarist Noel Gallagher. No way, no how. Read on to see what happened when Rolling Stone  asked Noel – who left the band in 2009 after yet another quarrel with his brother Liam – about his plans for the upcoming 20th anniversary of Oasis' classic debut album.

Definitely Maybe will be 20 years old next summer.

That's correct!

Do you think you’ll do anything to celebrate the anniversary?

Well, there would be the inevitable reissues, I would’ve thought. But are you asking, are the band going to get onstage and have a blast through “Rock 'n' Roll Star” somewhere, like the Philippines or something?

Well you could do it anywhere. 

I think I’d rather not, though.

Why not?

I don’t know. We are split up. You’ve heard that, haven’t you? You must’ve heard.

I did hear that, yeah.

Yeah, so, ergo, band splits up, band is no more. There is no band. So, no, I won’t be getting involved, anyway. If there is a reunion, I won’t be in it.

Are you getting tired of answering questions about this?

No, I only answer about six a day, so it’s under control. I understand people will never stop asking until it happens. I know that that’s how it goes.

Are you still proud of Definitely Maybe, when you look back?

Of course. I’m proud of everything that we ever did. I mean, some songs are pretty shit, and there’s a couple of periods you’d rather forget, but I think on the whole… I think we made three great albums and four good ones, which is not bad out of eight. Kind of a 50 percent record. That’s pretty good, I think.

But I’m cool with it. I don’t think there’s any unfinished business. I don’t think that we left anything unsaid, do you know what I mean? It’s like, if you’ve seen [Oasis], then good for you. If you didn’t, then that’s fucking tough shit. I’ve never seen the Beatles. So there you go.
