Noel Gallagher On If He Prefers London To Manchester

Interviewer: London or Manchester?

Noel: Manchester is home. I always go back to the town even I live in London for years now. (thinks deeply) You know what, I say London. The only place where I want to live, then New York as a far second place. Manchester is fantastic for 3 days , then a so called “home coming” feeling goes away . Family, old friends, the pub , a match. They’re great, but there is nothing more for me to keeping myself there. I recently said to my wife , you know what makes London nice? Shall we go to London for a couple of days? While I live just around the corner. You read about so many nice things, the hidden places , but also the big attractions. I would love to visit Buckingham Palace or The House of Parliament. I’ve never been to the Tower Been only once in the Eye long time ago. and I see tourists enjoying of the city. I’ll definitely do same one day. We gonna make a weekend of it.

Noel Gallagher On 'The Smiths' Or 'The Stone Roses'?

Taken from a interview with Dutch magazine 'OOR' that is on sale now, thanks to mimmihopps for the translation.

Interviewer: The Smiths' or 'The Stone Roses'?

Noel: The Smiths. they have done so many things, have left so many impression in the music history behind. The Stone Roses made only one good album. A Fantastic album, but it lacks what The Smiths have - a fine hour of timeless music. I wouldn’t even count their second album. Each album by The Smiths is legendary, six, seven albums long. F*cking hell, how many are they?...(counts with his fingers The Smiths, Hatful of Hollow, Meat Is Murder, The Queen Is Dead, Strangeways, Here We Come, Rank…including Compilation and live albums. All of them strike.

Johnny - from a brilliant second man of The Smiths to solo artist, he’s been doing his own things for ages. For Example, how he built up his career with his guitar work from start until now.. Yeah, The Smiths, all day.

Noel Gallagher Re-wrote 'You Know We Can't Go Back'

Noel Gallagher re-wrote the lyrics to a track on his new album 'Chasing Yesterday' to avoid suggestions it was about his brother Liam.

Talking about You Know We Can't Go Back, he told the current issue of NME, "I had to change a line in it because there's a bit that says, 'Take me to my lover's arms' in the second verse, but initially it had a mention of the word 'brother', which fitted a bit better than 'lover' and told the story.

"But I thought I couldn't go there because I just don't want Japanese interviewers and Scandinavians and Germans going, 'You say "brother" in your song - it's obvious you love the guy', and it's like, 'Oh f**king hell, Ok, whatever.'"

Noel Gallagher Says Brother Liam Should Stick With Gem Archer

Noel Gallagher has said that his brother Liam should stick with former Oasis and Beady Eye member Gem Archer as his wingman as 'they were f*cking great mates'.

Speaking to NME in the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands now and available digitally.

He said "If I was giving him (Liam) any advice, I think he should stick with Gem as his wingman, becuse they were f*cking great mates and Gem really understood him. As for a producer, that guy who done their last album (Dave Sitek). It was one great tune from launching something. When I heard 'Flick Of The Finger' on the radio I thought 'this is more like it' but it didnt go anywere. It was like a four-minute bridge with no chorus. Admitadly a good bridge".

He added "And the second one, I loved the vibe of it but... they're a f*cking great band but they're not great songwriters. They needed one great song, not just a hit single, a f*cking tune. 'Rock 'n' Roll Star' was never a single, or 'Champagne Supernova', or 'Morning Glory', y'know But I don’t think he’ll be out of the game forever."

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Next Single 'Riverman' Will Be Out In February

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' next single will be the 'Riverman' and available on February 23, 2015 according to AMAZON.

Album opener 'Riverman' drifts on a blissful acoustic grove, before building to a skyscraping guitar solo and a gentle sax solo.

Noel says "It's the sound of 1970's Sunset Boulevard with Santana playing lead guitar over a pothead groove, and a Pink Floyd saxophone player in the background".

He said the track was inspired by a night out with Russell Brand and Morrissey in Los Angeles.

The solo in 'Riverman' is very good and performed by Paul Stacey and very reminiscent of David Crosby.

He told the current issue of the NME "He threatens me that if I ever go back in Oasis that'll be it between us. He's always say's 'You f*cking heard all these f*cking things about your f*cking reunion?, and I'm like 'yeah I know' and he goes 'You're not f*cking doing it?' and I'm like 'No', and he's going 'Good good good'.

He added "Basically, if Oasis ever did get back together, which is highly unlikely. I'd have to leave London and move back to Manchester. Because he'd put my windows in".

Paul Weller On Noel Gallagher's Album 'Chasing Yesterday'

Paul Weller has been speaking about Noel Gallagher's new album 'Chasing Yesterday' that is released in March.

He told the current issue of the NME "I really like it, I think it's great. It's one of those things you've got to hear a few times - two or three listens, I reckon - but I thought it was great. It's a little bit like part two but in a great way - he's got great songs and that's what he does, great melodies and choruses. He's singing and playing well on it, it's a good record".

Noel Gallagher On Oasis Tracks In The Archives

Noel Gallagher has been speaking about Oasis songs in the archive.

He told the current issue of the NME "There are little bridges and tiny bits. There's a bootleg on the internet that I haven't even got called 'Tales From The Basement' or something, and there's a whole f*cking 11 or 12 songs on there that are all pre-Alan McGee there are certain bits I can hear that popped up on 'Be Here Now' or whatever, so there's no great fully formed songs.

When asked were they recorded at the same time as 'Married With Children'? he said "Yeah that's were we did it. It belongs to Mani, that house. Mark Coyle was renting it. Mani's still got the house. It's become a bit of a Manchester landmark".

Noel Gallagher On The Lost Oasis Album With Death In Vegas

Noel Gallagher has been speaking about Oasis' recording session they did with Death In Vegas.

He told the current issue of the NME "We did it before we went to do 'Don't Believe The Truth', and much like the Amorphous project, it just didnt work out. Me and Liam both sang. Noel Gallagher On The Scrapped Album With Amorphous Androgynous

Noel Gallagher has been speaking about his scrapped album with Amorphous Androgynous.

He told the current issue of the NME "Initially when they delivered it they managed to pull off the trick of recording the quietest CD of all time. When I got it I was like, 'Is it broke?' But for all the great ideas on it... I was in the middle of a tour, that last album had blown up, the mixes weren't right. And by the time I got back off tour I was just like 'I'm not f*cking putting out another record, I can't be arsed'. I was frazzled and had glandular fever I was f*cked."

Paul Weller On Why Noel Gallagher Doesn't Need To Reform Oasis

Paul Weller has been speaking on why Noel Gallagher doesn't need to reform Oasis.

He told the NME "Why would he need to? he's flying at the moment. I don't think he needs to. There's always exceptions, but generally speaking I'm f*cking bored stiff of reunions. I know it's popular with people, but I don't get it - I don't get the whole nostalgia thing. It's just become a business, hasn't it"?

Noel Gallagher On The Numerous Influences On His New Album

Noel Gallagher has said a song on his new album is a mix of "T Rex, The Rolling Stones and Queens Of The Stone Age" while stating the another is one of his favourite things he has ever written.

Gallagher's High Flying Birds release new album 'Chasing Yesterday' on March 2. It features the single 'In The Heat Of The Moment' as well as Johnny Marr collaboration 'Ballad Of The Mighty I'.

Speaking to NME in the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands now and available digitally Gallagher describes the saxophone player used on album opener 'The Riverman' as being "summoned from a smoky room in 1963," adding that the song is, "fucking amazing. It's my favourite track on the album, and one of my favourites I've ever done."

Meanwhile, 'The Right Stuff', also taken from from the record has numerous influences. Put to him by NME that the song's riff is reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age, Gallagher replies: "I thought The Rolling Stones, and Johnny Marr when he heard it said, 'That's fucking T Rex'. But if it's a cross between T Rex, The Rolling Stones and Queens Of The Stone Age, fucking hell, I'll take that any day."
