Oasis – The Stories Behind Their Cryptic Album And Single Sleeve Art

What's the first thing you think of when you think of Oasis? No, apart from drugs and fighting. No, not Knebworth or Britpop or massive ’90s anthems or slagging off other acts or whatever else you're thinking. Yes, that's right, classic record sleeves.

Oasis covers, often designed by Brian Cannon's Microdot, were amongst the most striking of the past 20 years, full of clues, red herrings and tributes to a certain Liverpudlian band of yore – and always with a colourful story attached.

Noel Gallagher Locks Horns With Airport Staff

Noel Gallagher "locked horns" with airport staff over a £65 excess baggage charge.

The former Oasis rocker reportedly spent 20 minutes at a British Airways check-in desk at London's Heathrow Airport on Monday (08.17.15) before he and wife Sara MacDonald "reluctantly relented" and paid the charge.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Noel and his wife locked horns with BA staff at check-in, where they were forced to pay a surcharge for extra luggage. It clearly wasn't the start to the holiday they wanted. After 20 minutes they reluctantly relented.

"As if that wasn't enough, they had a tricky time getting through security, with staff searching the kids' shoes - leaving both parents more in need of a holiday than ever."

Meanwhile, the 'Wonderwall' hitmaker - who was jetting out to the south of France with children Donovan, seven, and Sonny, four - previously admitted he loves to spend money on his children as he wants the best for him.

Noel, who also has daughter Anaïs from a previous relationship, said: "I don't want them to be scruffy oiks from a council estate. I don't want them to be like me.

"Just because I didn't have money until I was 26, I'm not going to deny them private school, holidays, cars and all that."

Noel Gallagher No Longer Receives Fan Mail

With few people using snail mail these days Noel no longer has to battle through a sack of fan mail every day.

The rise of the internet might mean music sales have plummeted for Noel Gallagher , but at least he no longer has to spend hours replying to fan mail.

The ex-Oasis star admits: “It has all stopped. I remember getting sacks of the stuff. That doesn’t happen any more.

"Now there’s no need to reply as the fans are online talking to each other.”

He says the business is totally different to what it was like when Oasis first broke on to the scene.

He adds: ”Since Definitely Maybe the industry has changed beyond all recognition. The music business we signed into doesn’t exist any more.”

Is This Oasis-Inspired Car Number Plate Is The Most Manc Registration Ever?

Car sporting reg number which is a tribute to Britpop star Noel Gallagher was spotted in musician's home city.

One Oasis fan has taken his obsession with the Britpop band to a whole new level by getting a number plate inspired by songwriter Noel Gallagher's famous catchphrase.

The 'R KIIDDD' reg was spotted in a supermarket car park in the south of city, showing that despite the band having split up six years ago they are still loved by their home town fans.

The phrase is how Noel - the songwriter and driving force behind the group - used to refer to little brother Liam, the tearaway lead singer with whom he used to fight on a regular basis. Their feud ultimately destroyed Oasis in 2009.

He said in an interview with Q Magazine: "First time I saw Liam sing I thought, 'Our Kid’s got summat about him'."

The rocking reg plate was seen and snapped on a white Vauxhall Corsa at Asda in Longsight.
It’s not known who the owner is, but they were obviously picking up some Champagne Supernova and a Roll With It.

Nele Sithole, 22, from Moston, spotted the car.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I found it hilarious to be honest but I would probably only get one if I had a flashy sports car - just to rub it in!"

On This Day In Oasis History...

On August 10th 1996, Oasis played the first of two nights at Knebworth. Support for the two days included The Prodigy, Ocean Colour Scene, Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers, Kula Shaker and Dreadzone.

Below is a review from THE TIMES of the show.

Review: Oasis at Knebworth, 1996

One in 20 Britons applied for tickets to see Oasis in concert at Knebworth. Our critic joined the crowd on Saturday.

Three million people, 5 per cent of the population, applied for tickets and those lucky enough to get them were treated to two new songs, My Big Mouth and It's Getting Better Man , along with tried and tested hits. With a guest list of 7,000 there were plenty of opportunities for star-spotting: Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, Jarvis Cocker and Kate Moss made their way to the celebrity enclosure to compare bodyguards with Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit, and all looked disingenuously surprised when mobbed by amateur paparazzi.

For those not chosen as Kate Moss's plus one, there were tickets still available at a price. Cro-Magnon touts were willing to get you into "The Gig of the Decade" for £300, a sizeable mark-up from £22.50. Once inside, many would have gladly paid £300 to avoid queues. There were 400-yard tailbacks for each bar and toilet. But with the temperature into the 70s and a PA so powerful everyone was guaranteed to leave touched by tinnitus, such matters were of little importance. Oasis took to the stage at 9pm, greeted by a roar so huge that flocks of birds took to the sky from Knebworth's old oaks.

"Hello, hello, hello," Liam said, making a fairly good job of John Lennon's famous "retard" impression. "Let's go." And off they went, kicking out the music that has made the Top 40 truly exciting for the first time in ten years and working hard for the estimated £5.6 million the weekend accrued.

Joined for the inevitable encore of Champagne Supernova by The Stone Roses's ex-guitar player John Squire, Oasis bowed out in a blaze of guitar solos and a firework display. As many tired and emotional punters fell over backwards, disorientated from staring at the sky so long, Martin Carr of the Boo Radleys said: "Everyone in Britain - except Damon from Blur - loves Oasis. They can do no wrong." He would appear to be right.
