Liam Gallagher Shocks Holy Holy Backstage In London

If you're in a band it's not always good news when you hear that Liam or Noel Gallagher is in the room watching you play. When it comes to musical contemporaries of the combative duo from the now defunct Oasis, the hapless singers and bands are more likely to get trashed, abused and filed away as "that fat dancer from Take That" (Robbie Williams) or "he looks like Zorro on doughnuts" (Jack White).

However, Australian band Holy Holy got more than lucky recently during their European tour. Liam Gallagher turned up to their sold out London show and didn't just shut up and listen but went backstage to tell them they were "the best band I've seen in years" and he thought their album was "brilliant" (actually he probably said "fookin' brilliant" knowing him).
Even better, Gallagher was overheard by at least one publication which meant the reports of the praise couldn't be dismissed as the wishful thinking of a tired and emotional band working their debut album, When The Storms Would Come.



But then it's been that kind of tour for the band based around the songwriting duo of Tim Carroll and Oscar Dawson. Gigs are selling out across the Low Countries and the UK, songs are running up Spotify charts in the Netherlands and the Huffington Post declared that not only would their songs of "mesmerising aplomb" go on to "conquer the UK and the northern hemisphere" but that the band would be "the biggest deal since Kylie Minogue".

(Incidentally, Noel Gallagher once said of that pop giant, "Kylie Minogue is just a demonic little idiot as far as I'm concerned".)

Other reviews have compared them with "Fleet Fox's meet the War On Drugs" and raved that "When The Storms Would Come sounds like a career-defining set from an established act rather than an opening statement." Or, as Gallagher said, "fookin' brilliant".

Meanwhile, back home they've run up some kind of record having their sixth single in a row added to triple j's playlist – much to the gnashing of teeth from publicists of other acts who struggle to get on that playlist once – and Carroll and Dawson are in line for an unprecedented honour .

For the first time it's believed, two writers from the same band have been nominated for the APRA professional development awards. Previous recipients of those $15,000 grants include Gotye and Abbe May and this year's winners will be announced on November 24, two days before the ARIA Awards.

Alan McGee Is Not A Fan Of Aurora's Cover Of Oasis' 'Half The World Away'

Former Oasis manager Alan McGee has dismissed the cover version of the band's single 'Half The World Away', used on a John Lewis advert, as "rubbish".

Little-known Norwegian singer Aurora was picked to cover the 1994 B-side for the annual Christmas advertising campaign.

However, McGee is not impressed and told Gigwise that he hopes the retailer paid Noel Gallagher a substantial fee for the rights to the song. “I think it’s rubbish," McGee said. "I don’t know what anybody else thinks of it, though. I’m pleased for Noel that he got his royalties, I hope they gave him a million quid but I thought actually it was rubbish."

McGee went on to say that he's still good friends with Noel Gallagher and is still a fan of his music: "You know as much as me. I don’t really talk to him much about what he’s doing with music. I buy the records and I go to the concerts and I’m friends with him. I met him in London in a club, he was on great form. We were talking about our children."

Interest in the John Lewis adverts has grown in recent years with contemporary artists covering older material in a stripped-back fashion. Last year, Tom Odell recorded 'Real Love' by John Lennon, while Lily Allen's cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' was a hit in 2013.

The John Lewis advert cover-version trend took off in 2010 when Ellie Goulding's cover of 'Your Song' by Elton John hit Number One. However, the first John Lewis advert song came the year before with a folk cover of Guns N' Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.

Chris Martin On Oasis And Working With Noel Gallagher

Coldplay‘s Chris Martin is in awe over Beyonce and Noel Gallagher, both of whom made contributions to the British band’s forthcoming album, A Head Full of Dreams, set for release December 4. In an interview with Kevin & Bean this morning, Martin explained this is the first time the group has collaborated with famous musicians on one of their albums.

“Some of the record is about trying to make dreams come true, and humans’ ability to fix things by coming up with new ideas. And one of our dreams was to have Noel play on something because we used to love Oasis so much.” According to Martin, Gallagher doesn’t sing, but he does offer “a big guitar solo.”

When asked what went wrong with Oasis, Martin paused. “I love Oasis. I think it’s dangerous when you change the lineup of something; the magic… it always comes out different.”

“I feel bad for for them,” interjected Bean, “because they’re both very talented and I feel like Oasis was something that was so special that they can’t get out from under it. No matter how great Noel’s records are now, all anybody wants to ask him is ‘When is Oasis getting back together?'”

“I’ll give you my serious answer if you really want it,” offered Martin. “I think a band by its very nature is only as good as the chemistry between the players. None of us in rock bands, or whatever kind of bands we’re in, are virtuosos, otherwise we’d be concert pianists. So the only thing you have in your favor as a band is your unique chemistry. And if you’re lucky enough to have a great songwriter like Noel then those songs get fed into this weird arrangement of people. I feel like the great bands respect that chemistry.”

John Lewis Christmas Advert Gets Makeover From Goldie Lookin Chain

Welsh rap outfit Goldie Lookin' Chain have thrown their hat into the Christmas song ring with a brilliant take on the John Lewis advert - Man on the Moon.

Whereas Norwegian singer Aurora Asknes covers Oasis' Half the World Away, GLC have put their own clever lyrics on the backing track of Noel Gallagher's most touching songs.

The boys ask us to stop buying presents that can't even be sold on and also take a pop at Christmas jumpers.

The video also features past John Lewis adverts as well as classic Christmas TV moments like EastEnders' Arthur Fowler's breakdown.

"But the John Lewis one came out on Friday morning and we decided to have a look at what we could do with it," he continued. "With Christmas there's so much to write about anyway.

"As soon as the temporary Halloween shop in town disappears they slam a Christmas one in there, then on Boxing Day, they slam an Easter one there.

"By December 12, no one is interested in Christmas any more, it hasn't snowed, it's raining."



Rhys adds: "The junk my mother buys me, I don't even need biscuit tins.

"I don't eat many biscuits - and if I do, I keep them in the packet.

"When me and my sister were kids, my parents bought us a ping-pong table, we couldn't fit it in the house, it had to go in the garage and the car had to go on the street.

"I didn't even play ping-pong.

"The bottom line with the John Lewis advert is that they are a big shop who sell lots of stuff and they want people to buy it."

GLC's Eggsy aka John Rutledge says that all you need at Christmas is a coal fire and good friends.

"The best things in life are the simple things," he adds. "If John Lewis wants to raise awareness for Age UK maybe they should chuck a few million to them.

"I don't like the manipulation of it - you just know there was a marketing man in London, in skinny jeans, probably called Julian, trying to think of a cause to link to the ad."

The two GLC members are not totally opposed to Christmas, with Eggsy arranging a Christmas Eve walk every year and Rhys loves to torment his family with Christmas songs.

Eggsy adds: "I and a few other blokes go for a walk in the middle of now-were - I call it Uncle Daddy's Christmas Walk.

"It's lovely, there's no drinking until you black out, just being around good people."

And it's not all Scrooge-like behaviour around Rhys' house at Christmas, he says: "I do love Christmas really, I cook a big dinner for everyone, I've got Christmas songs on in each room."

"My parents go around the house turning them off, but I'm right behind them putting them back on," he addded. "And we have a Christmas quiz too."

He does also like the original advert though: "That Aurora has such a sweet voice, but in the end for our version we used the original Oasis' track because it had more oomph.

"Noel's pretty cool with us so I hope he doesn't mind. And 'Mr Lewis', I'm sure he'll be cool with it too.

"There are lots of parodies around. We'll see. I'm hoping this will boost our chances of doing the Eurovision Song Contest next year."

Noel Gallagher Features On Coldplay's New Album 'A Head Full Of Dreams'

Out on 4 December, the band’s seventh album features a new disco-orientated direction in the form of single Adventure of a Lifetime.

Coldplay have announced the release of their seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams. Beyoncé, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Merry Clayton are among the vocalists appearing across its 11 tracks.

Though it won’t be released until Friday 4 December, fans can hear a taster of the new direction in the form of the disco-pop love song Adventure of a Lifetime, which is available to download and stream now.


Recorded in Malibu, LA and London, the LP, out via Parlophone Records, is a follow-up to Ghost Stories, a breakup album written in the wake of Chris Martin’s split with Gwyneth Paltrow. It was produced by Norwegian duo Stargate, with the band’s long-time collaborator Rik Simpson also on board.

Following the release of Ghost Stories, the band chose not to tour and instead returned to the studio to record A Head Full of Dreams. According to a statement, the album is “bursting with energy, colour and big, life-affirming moments”. They plan to take it on a world tour.

Ellie Goulding Says Noel Gallagher Loves Her Music

Singer Ellie Goulding suspects Noel Gallagher's recent insult against her is some type of publicity stunt.

The 48-year-old Oasis rocker slammed a slew of modern day musicians recently, telling Esquire UK: "Does anybody give a f**k about what any of these current pop stars are up to? Who gives a s**t what f**king One Direction do? C**ksuckers, all of them in rehab by the time they're 30. Who gives a s**t what Ellie Goulding is up to? Really? Adele, what? Blows my f**king mind. Nobody cares! Fame's wasted on them."

But Ellie had a personal interaction with Noel that seems to discount pretty much everything he said about her.

"Noel came up to me at the Brit Awards two years ago and said, 'I love your music - but don't f**king tell anyone'," she recalled to The Sun.

Noel Gallagher Says He And Liam Had A "Massive Fistfight" Before Oasis' Final World Tour Started

Noel Gallagher says the last six months of Oasis were "awful" and he and Liam even had a "massive fistfight" before their final world tour had started.

The 'Don't Look Back In Anger' hitmaker quit the band in August 2009 after a backstage bust-up with his younger brother at a festival in Paris which ended with Liam swinging a guitar at Noel's head like an "axe".

Now, Noel has opened up on just how strained the siblings' relationship was and has revealed they had come to blows before they even started touring final album 'Dig Out Your Soul' - an incident which proved to be a key moment in the breakdown of their bond.

In an interview with the new issue of Esquire magazine, he said: "The last six months were f***ing awful, it was excruciating. Me and Liam had a massive, massive, massive fistfight three weeks before the world tour started, and fights like that in the past would always be easy to rectify but for some reason I wasn't going to let it go this time. I was just like, 'F**k this ****.' And there was an atmosphere all the way around the world."

Noel admits things were so strained between him and the frontman as they travelled the globe he made the decision to fly separately from the rest of his bandmates.

During the final run of shows, the 48-year-old guitarist felt Oasis had lost sight of what they were, had nothing left to achieve and he was particularly dismayed at Liam's desire to use their stadium shows as opportunities to plug his clothing line Pretty Green.

He said: "By that stage I was flying separately to the rest of the band, which I have to tell you was f***ing great. And Liam was sacking tour managers because he didn't like their shoes. Then he starts his own clothing label and starts dedicating songs to it on stage and I'm like, 'Really, is this what it's come to?' He's modeling parkas on stage which you could buy on his website. And it's just like, 'This is not for me.' All that being said, we had two gigs left and I reckon if I'd had got to the end of that tour and I'd had six months off I would have just forgotten about it, got on with it. But the straw that broke the camel's back was the night in Paris and that was a fight. There's no hidden darkness. It was just a fight about f***ing nonsense, just him being p***ed. He'd cancelled the gig at the V Festival and we were getting loads of s**t for it ... Liam's convinced I'm some kind of puppet-master, and he blames it all on me. And then it just escalated. It blew up. And that was it. I sat in the car and thought, "You know what, I've done enough now. F**k it, I'm going to leave ... If I'd thought there was anything left to achieve I wouldn't have left Oasis ... You name it, we did it all."

Noel Gallagher ‘To Be Paid Thousands’ For John Lewis Christmas Advert

It’s tradition for the annual John Lewis Christmas advert to bring a smile to the Nation’s face every year, but in 2015 Noel Gallagher will be smiling bigger than anybody else as the ad is apparently going to earn him thousands.

That’s a pretty nifty Christmas bonus, isn’t it?

The traditionally tear-jerking advert isn’t set to debut until tomorrow morning, but it has already been confirmed that it features Oasis track ‘Half The World Away’, which was written by Noel.

The song has been covered by unknown Norwegian singer, Aurora, but The Sun report that Noel will still rake in thousands of pounds in royalties for the store using the song - which you might recognise as the theme tune for The Royle Family.

Stars such as Lily Allen and Tom Odell have previously recorded songs for the advert, and a source told The Sun that John Lewis opted to use Aurora instead of an established artist because her voice is so “quirky”.

They explained: “There have been lots of options and the process has been kept top secret. Even though Aurora is a complete unknown, they felt her quirky voice is perfect for the song.

“There were initially some discussions about the song being a cover of Steve Winwood’s Higher Love, but the Oasis track won out.”

So far we have only seen an Adele-esque teaser of the ad during Sunday night’s X Factor, which simply displayed the hashtag #OnTheMoon in John Lewis’ famous font.

Needless to say, we can’t wait for the final product to truly kick off the festive season tomorrow morning.

Liam And Noel Gallagher Both Agree To Take Part In Oasis Documentary

Noel and Liam Gallagher have had their fair share of problems in the past. Well just one problem really – they hate each other.

But things are looking up. According to The Guardian, the brothers have both agreed to take part in an upcoming Oasis documentary, “sharing their favourite memories and offering their insight in interviews."

So maybe they’re ready to kiss and make-up? They’re bound to bump into each other at the wrap party, right?

James Gay-Rees of production company On The Corner and director Asif Kapadia are the guys behind the recent Amy Winehouse film, and will be creating the Oasis documentary, which will chart the Britpop band right from their early days.

Asif will act as executive-director on the film with Mat Whitecross to direct. Mat has directed a number of Coldplay videos and 2012's Spike Island.

They are said to have been given "unprecedented" access to the band and unseen archive footage.

Screen Daily reports that Independent Film Sales will launch the film at industry event, AFM, which takes place between 4 – 11 November.

Andrew Orr, managing director at Independent, commented, "Oasis are without doubt one of the classic British rock bands, selling 70million albums worldwide and defining the sound of a whole era.

“At its heart are Liam and Noel Gallagher, two of the finest rock ‘n’ roll stars this country has ever produced. Mat’s sensibility and style are going to provide the perfect complement to this tale of the rise of one of the great rock ’n’ roll bands."

Noel Gallagher Tears Into Adele, 1D, Ellie Goulding And Arctic Monkeys

"I've got a cat that's more rock'n'roll than all of them put together. Pigeons? Rips their f**king heads off."

Oh dear. Self-proclaimed last of the great rock and rollers Noel Gallagher has torn into One Direction, Adele, Arctic Monkeys and, well pretty much everyone.

The former Oasis star gave a typically outspoken interview to Esquire, where he called modern popstars (except Kanye West) "c**ts" who don't deserve fame.

"Fame's wasted on these c**ts today. Bar Kanye. You watch him on the MTV Awards and you think, 'You can f**king stay, you're alright,'" he said.

"Does anybody give a f**k about what any of these current pop stars are up to? Who gives a shit what f**king One Direction do? Cocksuckers, all of them in rehab by the time they're 30.

"Who gives a shit what Ellie Goulding is up to? Really? Adele, what? Blows my f**king mind. It blows my f**king mind. Nobody cares! "

It wasn't just the popstars who found themselves in Noel's bad books though, as the guitarist also bemoaned rockstars, or rather the "spotty f**king herberts with guitars".

So if the likes of Royal Blood and Arctic Monkeys aren't cutting it (neither of whom we recall wearing eyeliner by the by) who would Noel like to see come to the forefront?

"F**king utter gobshites just being f**king headcases ." We're saying nothing.

Oasis Documentary On The Way From Filmmakers

A documentary all about the rise of Oasis is coming - and it's in the works from the team behind this year's Amy Winehouse movie Amy.

The film will journey from the moment Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam's band in 1991, to releasing their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994.

According to Deadline, Amy director Asif Kapadia will executive-produce alongside James Gay Rees. Mat Whitecross is directing.

The as-yet-untitled documentary will feature never-before-seen archive footage and insight from both Noel and Liam.

Director Whitecross previously worked on Spike Island, about a group of Stone Roses fans trying to get tickets to see the band's Spike Island concert in 1990.

Meanwhile, Noel recently ruled out Oasis headlining Glastonbury (again), simply because the festival "don't pay enough" to justify a reunion.
