Serge Pizzorno On Why Liam Gallagher Has A Place In His Heart

'I'm always going to be fascinated by what he does because he has a place in my heart'

Kasabian‘s Serge Pizzorno has said that Liam Gallagher ‘saved his life’, hailing the former Oasis frontman as one of the ‘all-time greats’.

The guitarist was speaking to Q Magazine, when he said that Liam ‘has a place in my heart’ – and described how he fell in love with the singer during his teenage years.

“He saved my life,” said Pizzorno. “This path that I’ve walked – if I’d not have seen him get up on stage and do his thing, I wouldn’t have walked it. I’m always going to be fascinated by what he does because he has a place in my heart.

“I was 14, 15, and I remember when they did Maine Road he wore an Umbro tracksuit. An Umbro tracksuit on anyone is a sports tracksuit, but he managed to make it look like the most desirable item of clothing. He managed to make it look like Gucci or something, and I bought one and wore it to school.”

Serge also described how Liam had been integral in supporting Kasabian during the ‘early days’ of their career.

Pizzorno continued: “I will never forget that in the early days he picked us out and said he was a fan. You can’t imagine what that was like for some kids from Leicester, from nowhere, for him to give us the nod. I will never forget that.”

Describing his relationship with Liam, he added: “He’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met in my life. His sense of humour – if you spend time with him it’s such a buzz, he’s just so funny.”

Noel Gallagher: 'Nothing I Do Will Ever Be As Big As Oasis'

Noel Gallagher has admitted that he will never reach the heights that he reached with Oasis as a solo artist.

In a documentary titled Mark Lawson Talks To Noel Gallagher which was aired last night (March 30) on BBC 4, the High Flying Birds man said that nobody could be as big as his former band.

He said: "Nothing anybody does can be as big as Oasis. Not Coldplay, not Kasabian, not the Arctic Monkeys, in this country not U2, not any of them, its as simple as that."

Gallagher added: "It's not only me that lives up to that legacy, everyone else has too. We were the last. We were the greatest. The end".

He added: "I've had this reputation since the band have split up for being called a control freak. And I was. I controlled them all the way to Wembley and Knebworth and all the way to the top of the charts. So you're welcome."

In the documentary, he also spoke about his childhood, his relationship with his brother Liam and the Britpop war with Blur.

Meanwhile, Gallagher is set to release a new EP next month, which is titled 'Songs From The Great White North'. The EP, which contains four tracks in total, will be released on 12' vinyl to celebrate this year's Record Store Day, which happens on April 21.

It is made up of his recent B-sides and includes his recent collaboration with Amorphous Androgynous 'Shoot A Hole Into The Sun' as well as previous offerings 'The Good Rebel', 'Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me' and 'I'd Pick You Everytime'.

Noel Gallagher's Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Thirty

From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.

Yes…

So, been out of the game for a couple of days AGAIN!!

Here goes… What day is it today? …Friday? Saturday? Fuck knows.

The last time we spoke I was in Sydney, right? Just getting ready for The Big Day Out?

Well… Woke up that morning and guess what? That's right, it was pissing down… I mean what IS the point of Australia while it's raining? There is no point. I'm staggered by the weather. "Oh, fuck off!" to the sky, said I.

'Twas a big day for the Aussies. Australia Day. It's a day where they celebrate all things Australian… Whatever that means. Still part of the blimmin' Empire, if you ask me, innit? Sydney Harbour was full of boats and ships. Spectacular. There was cannons going off and even a fly past by the Aussie air force (mate!)... IN THE RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a bit of a scene with the Aussie PM (some ginger Sheila). She got a bit roughed up by some protesters and had to be bundled into a car that looked like a taxi. Thing is, she lost one of her shoes!! Like Cinderella!! The news went in heavy on the protesters… (What a scandal… No… Not sandal… They didn't make it clear what style of shoe it was!!!)

By the time I got down to the festival site to continue my battle of wits with the Aussie media (mate), Kasabian had been and gone!! Heard they were good though.

My gig was really bloody good (mate). Had a pair of ladies knickers thrown on stage and a top hat!! I do hope they came from the same person!!

Legged it early the next day and arrived here in Melbourne (mate). And guess what? No… You're wrong see, because it's bloody boiling (mate). Yes sir!! The sun has got his hat on, and it's got little corks dangling round the rim!!

They still have that Jerry Springer on TV down here. Forgot how psychedelic that programme is. There was a threesome on it called… "Sha-toya" and "Jo-neesa" and a guy whose name was "Country". Mega. I laughed until it wasn't funny anymore.

So then I stopped and turned on the news. Turns out the big story building was about "the shoe".

"Where is the PM's shoe?" They asked.
"Who's got the shoe?" They pleaded.
"We must find the shoe!!".

Had a bit of a mooch around and about (didn't find the shoe). Not much going on here, but by the time I got back to the hotel THE SHOE HAD BEEN FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a brilliant Monty Python-esque moment were they went live to the actual shoe being handed over to the authorities by what looked like a protester…

"There you go Cinders, you shall go to the ball," I thought.

Except she didn't. She went to the tennis. To see Andy Murray lose… AGAIN!!!

ONWARDS.

GD.

PS: Dunno what all the fuss was about. The shoe was bobbins. A black suede wedge?? Not this season...(mate).
