Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

These gigs just keep getting better and better. I didn't think we could top Peru, Argentina and Chile but fuck me, last night was easily up there with the best nights EVER! Amazing crowd. I suppose one should expect nothing less from Brazilians, but still - "well done".

And if that wasn't enough, I spent the day by a virtually deserted pool right on the beach. Hungover. Just me. And some beautiful people playing volleyball in the pool.

The atmosphere was spoiled somewhat by "Man, I Feel LIke A Women" by that Shania Twain playing somewhere in the distance. 3 TIMES!!

Still, it's days like these that I'm glad I persevered with that bloody guitar when I was a young boy.

Sao Paulo tomorrow. Home of Robinho and Elano. WE ARE CITY etc..

In a bit.

PS. By the way, The Bulldozer didn't show up.

Liam Gallagher Interview

Interview with Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher in Brazil.

Happy Birthday Guigsy

Paul McGuigan (born 9 May 1971 (38 today) in Manchester), better known by his nickname, Guigsy (pronounced "Gwigzee"), was one of the four founding members of British rock band Oasis. He was the bass player for Oasis from 1991 to 1999.

A staunch football fan and a life-long supporter of Manchester City F.C., Guigsy had originally shown great promise as a footballer. He would regularly play football at Maine Road, which was also frequented by future band mates Noel Gallagher and Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs. However, a torn knee ligament at 16 years of age put this dream out of the question. Whilst still with Oasis, he and journalist Paolo Hewitt wrote a book about football player Robin Friday, entitled The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw (ISBN 1-85158-909-0). Guigsy was renowned for his encyclopaedic knowledge of football and cricket. In an interview for a BBC Radio 1 documentary in 1995, Guigsy described his favourite magazine as being FourFourTwo.

The Rain and Oasis (1991–1999)

n the late 1980s, Guigsy started a band with his friends, Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Tony McCarroll (drums) and Chris Hutton (lead vocals). They called themselves "The Rain", after the Beatles B-side. When Hutton quit, Guigsy invited his school friend, Liam Gallagher, to join. Gallagher suggested changing the band’s name to Oasis. Liam's brother Noel joined shortly thereafter.

Even in the mid-1990s, with the band's popularity at its zenith, he remained characteristically reserved. Acknowledged as the "Quiet One", there are very few recorded interviews with him at all. Noel Gallagher said of his bass player "I think he's spoken to me, and this is no word of a lie, since I was 17—thirteen years—for a total of about an hour. All he says is sweet as and alright. That's all." Though a competent bassist, Guigsy was often replaced by Noel Gallagher on the bands early recordings. However, there is no sign that the two were on edge as was the case with McCarroll, whom Gallagher would also often replace.

Guigsy, unlike the rest of the band, has only a handful of notable instances of unruly behaviour (including being locked in a cell with Liam on a ferry to the Netherlands, and subsequently being denied access to the country). Paolo Hewitt has suggested he "had a much more valuable role to play as a calming influence." There certainly is evidence to merit this claim. During the recording of their debut album, Definitely Maybe, it was Guigsy who took Noel to a pub after a dispute with Bonehead, filled him with booze and then accompanied him back to the studio where the band then recorded "Slide Away". Additionally, when Liam had to attend a court trial for unruly behaviour in Australia in 1998, it was Guigsy who, amid the chaos and mayhem that descended on the tour, gathered the entire party for a game of football in the local park.

Post-Oasis (1999–present)

When, in 1999, Bonehead quit the band after a drunken row with Noel, it seemed probable that, due to his nervous disposition, it was only a matter of time before Guigsy would follow him; indeed, a few weeks later, he left Oasis for the second and last time. He claimed he wished to spend more time with his family and that he had been toying with the idea of quitting anyway, a proposition he began considering as far back as the Be Here Now tour, during which Ruth (who he married on 4 April 1997 on the island of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean) gave birth to his first son, Patrick. Though he was present at the birth, within a week he was forced to leave them for the tour. In an interview on August 2001, Guigsy stated: "At the time, I thought, I'll make one more album, play one more world tour and then that will be it. But when Bonehead left, I thought, 'Now's the time.' One original member has gone. They are going to have to get a replacement so the best thing would be to get another at the same time. I always said when it stopped being fun I would quit. And that's what happened." Noel Gallagher claims Guigsy quit by fax, and would avoid phone calls from the Gallaghers in the following weeks. Though he eventually gave up trying to contact him by phone Noel claims to bear no malice towards Guigsy.
Guigsy presently lives in Mill Hill London with his wife Ruth and son, Patrick McGuigan. After leaving Oasis he appeared on Cornershop's single "Lessons Learned from Rocky I to Rocky III". He occasionally performs as a DJ. He declined to appear in the 2004 Definitely Maybe DVD, though a polite letter explaining his reasons for doing so appears as a hidden extra, along with a short segment with pundits giving their views on him.

Noel Gallagher loves supermarkets.

The Oasis rocker - who was once famed for his wild partying - admits he is always finding reasons to spend time at his local grocery store.

He said: 'I'm happiest hanging round the house and I'm forever offering to go to the supermarket. I f**king love supermarkets. I love watching football and writing.

'Outside of that, and hanging out with Sara and the kids, it involves other people and compromise.'

The 41-year-old guitarist also admitted he prefers to spend time alone than with friends.

Noel added: 'Send me to space and I'll tend to that space station forever.

'I like to sit at home with the blinds down and the TV off and just listen to the city. It gives me a sense of who I am.'

Iz'rite. Only just stopped pissing myself at Chelsea getting knocked out of the Champ's League last night. Is there a greater sight in world football than a pissed off Didier Drogba? Hmm ...a sniveling John Terry, maybe? Whatever, vamos Barca.

We're in Brazil! Rio De Janeiro. Or as the natives say "Redge-An-Airo". Should be a good gig tonight. Always is here.

The story of the day is that the Sheik, his highness, the guy that ACTUALLY OWNS Man City is coming to the gig!! THE FUCKIN' BULLDOZER!! Bet he doesn't. He'll probably send someone to see us for him! I'll keep you posted.

Graham Coxon: 'I Tried Jumping From A Sixth-Storey Window After Blur/Oasis Showdown'

Guitarist says Damon Albarn talked him out of it

Graham Coxon has spoken about the fallout from Blur Britpop tussle with Oasis.

The guitarist says he felt so bad when 'Country House' beat 'Roll With It' to Number One in the UK singles chart in the summer of 1995 that he had to be talked out of jumping from a sixth floor window by Damon Albarn.

"It felt like a hollow, pointless victory to me," Coxon told the Daily Mail. "Our record company threw a big champagne party at Soho House in London. I felt I was being forced into enjoying the moment and I just wanted to be alone really.

"I couldn't handle being part of that crowd so I tried to jump out of a sixth-storey window. It was Damon (Albarn) who talked me out of it. Looking back, I should have enjoyed myself a lot more than I did during the Blur days."

Coxon also described how he was once caught stealing sausages from a shop in Camden, north London at the tail end of the '90s.

He said: "The butcher saw me and gave chase. He finally caught up with me outside Woolworths and gave me a very firm punch in the jaw. I suppose I was asking for it but I didn't care at the time. I wouldn't have cared if he had hacked my arm off with a chicken's beak. Also, I happened to be wearing a denim skirt and there was a bus-load of people watching. It wasn't my proudest moment."

Looking to his future with Blur, the guitarist was much more upbeat, declaring: "When the gigs [this summer] come, we just want to go out there and enjoy them. After that, who knows? There could be another album. There could be more to come."

Pete Doherty: 'Babyshambles Are Better Than Oasis'

Singer says he wants to knock Gallaghers off their perch

Pete Doherty has said that he wants his current band Babyshambles to make a comeback album soon – to knock Oasis off their perch as Britain's biggest band.

The singer/guitarist, who also has a solo career and is planning a Libertines reunion, told NME.COM that he had been impressed by the Manchester legends' latest album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', so had made a vow to better it with his own group.

"With Oasis stepping up a gear and proving they've still got it, they need to be shown there are people out there who can surpass them," Doherty told NME.COM.

He added: "Can we match them? The quality is good [in Oasis], but there really is no competition because my band is the greatest in the world and we're going to prove it."

When asked when we should expect a new Babyshambles album, he said: "It's record company politics. Please, let it happen as soon as possible."

See the new issue of NME, out now, for the full interview with Doherty.

Great show last night. They just keep getting better and better.

Very little else to report. Some kids had made up "Noel Or Die" badges. The Japanese kids will be thrilled at that.

I'm at Santiago Airoporto. Just waiting on a flight to Rio. Gonna be hot, hot, hot. And the hotel's right on the Copacabana beach. Not that I'll get to see much of it. The kids there are fuckin' crazy. I'll be confined to barracks. Never mind. Got my trusty axe. I've been doing a bit of writing for the 1st time in ages - did I mention that already? Maybe?

Very disappointing to to see Man Utd get to the Champ's League final - AGAIN! They were fuckin' good though. Swatted the Arsenal like little French Flies. Hope Barca murder Chelsea tonight.

Anyway, fuck all that AND fuck all this. I'm bored. Seen some classic Ray-Bans in the shops. And I want them so I'm going to get them.

In a bit.

Noel Gallagher On Fame, Liam, Childhood, Oasis' Future And More

Hours before the show at River, the brains of the British band talked about everything with La Nacion: his brother, his childhood, fame, money, Oasis' future and his life as a rock dad.

The door of the Duhau Palace's conference hall opens, and sitting there, looking towards the light of the window, a thoughtful Noel Gallagher appears. He seems completely immersed in his private world, maybe wondering what he's doings so far from his home in a hotel surrounded by teenagers that for the past ten hours repeatedly howl his and his brother's names: "Noel! Liam!".

Maybe he's re-thinking the text a he'd write in his official blog a few hours later, which has the apocalyptic title "Tales from the Middle of Nowhere" - in which he announces "a storm on the horizon" of the South American tour that took Oasis to this country for their fourth time. Or perhaps he is remembering the melody he wrote in a room of the Buenos Aires Hotel in La Recoleta that very morning (yesterday).

In either case, the man, one of the most popular British rock stars of the last fifteen years, looks really immersed in some kind of inside thought, surrounded by a bucolic aura, waiting for his face to face meeting with La Nacion, in the middle of a large hall of beige walls. In the middle of nowhere, by the way.

The "hello" in Spanish brings Noel Gallagher back to this dimension, and for half an hour he will show his more thoughtful side, leaving a glimpse every now and then of his working-class origins (from Manchester, England, in this case) but without losing his natural witticism and good humor that made him become one of the musicians who best understood (and manipulated) the media in this media age.

Do you still enjoy this kind of marathon tours?

I enjoy the hour and a half on stage, that's great, I enjoy the interviews, being in sunny places, I enjoy being quiet in the hotel, I have small children in England, you know? To rest, lay down and watch a bit of television, that relaxes me and is very good. Unfortunately, there's a lot of trash in this kind of tours, things behind the scenes, which are necessary and I can't change.

If we consider the fights with your brother, the world tours and the passion around them, now Oasis is more like the Rolling Stones than the Beatles...

Yes, maybe we'll look like the fucking Rolling Stones, but that's what happens, it also happened to U2, who spends more time touring than in a studio making music. You have the choice and I love playing in stadiums.

Do you usually write music during tours?

(Surprised) I wrote a song this morning, actually ... Have you been spying on me? I don't write during tours, I don't know why, but in this particular tour, in the last two months, I've been writing some songs. They are the first in a long, long time. Maybe that means something, I don't know.

A future solo career?

Not a career, but I'll definitely make an album alone. I have nothing planned yet, I don't want to pressure myself. In October this tour will end and the band and I will take a long, long, long, long vacation. So you could say next year would be a good time. Although I'll do it when I really feel it.

And how is the always unstable relationship with your brother Liam?

(Long silence) It's obvious that when we grew up we become two totally different people. But that happens in any relationship, with your best friend or your wife or your girlfriend or your child. As for our relationship ... it's not the best but not the worst either. We can make it work for a while, for the fans, as we will do tonight, actually.

And so it was on Sunday night. Each of the Gallaghers fulfilled their role and more than 40,000 people thanked them passionately : Noel carried the rock pulse of the band with his guitar and kept for himself the key moments of the show, with a pair of those irresistible ballads he wrote in the 90s; Liam stood in front of the microphone with his grim face and his hands behind his back and was pure visual impact (girls go mad when they see him on the screens) and auditive (without a doubt he has one of the most personal voices of the British scene).

"I'm fascinated with how a lot of people can make a big issue with our relationship- Noel continues- because it's totally irrelevant to Oasis' music. Most people think that because I make music and Liam writes lyrics, if we would write together the songs will be great, but it's not like that".

What memories do you have of your teenage years in Manchester?

I was really obsessed with music and football. Most of my friends were obsessed with football and cars, but I was obsessed with music. It was the best and the worst time of my life. I was a teenager, had nothing to do, it was only girls, drugs, music and football. But on the other hand, I had no job, we were quite poor.

What was the first thing you did when you suddenly become a rich man?

I really... Money is not... I don't See myself like that. In monetary terms, of course, I can't convince you that I'm not saved because I am, but in other aspects I was already saved before I became financially well: I have a great spirit, I'm determined, I love music and I'm very open and honest with my love for music. My house doesn't look like is a ridiculous and embarrassing rock star's house. My family lives a very normal life, I really did nothing when I became a wealthy man. Well, I bought a lot of drugs, something any new rich man must do. During three years, I spent a lot of money on drugs. But I left all that behind and I haven't do drugs in eleven years.

Did being a parent change your idea about the rock lifestyle?

I never took drugs while being a father. I never had that problem and I don't think it's fair to be taking drugs while the kids are around. It all depends on how you perceive the rock and roll lifestyle. The thing is that if your photo appears in a magazine coming out of a club at night, drunk, the perception is that your life is the one of a fucking Keith Richards, but that was probably the only night you went out in all week. I don't have a problem with that, if I have to leave the kids with a babysitter, I do it, and if I prefer to stay at home, I do that too. In any case, I am the father, not the mother.

Noel and his music of the soul

"For me music is something very personal and spiritual, it comes from somewhere in my soul, it's in the air ... I'm not going to the studio to prove that I'm a better guitarist that Graham Coxon [of Blur] or a better composer than Thom Yorke [of Radiohead]-the older Gallagher brother maintains-. I think I'm good in many things, but not brilliant. I'm a good guitarist, but not great, I'm a good lyricist, but not great, I have a good voice, but no big deal. I don't know why there's such a special connection with the people, I can't explain why those kids were all day in front of the hotel screaming my name. I can't judge them either. I find it fascinating, because I don't see myself reflected in the person they see in me. They see me as a rock star, but I see myself quite normal."

Taken From Noel's Tour Diary for Oasisinet.com

Yess Mods and Rockers. Arrived in Santiago last night. A beautiful morning.

What follows is an actual interview that actually took place. On the phone. Yesterday. Actually.

Journalist: Hello, Noel?
NG: Hello.
Jnlst: Shall we begin?
NG: Vamos!
Jnlst: Ok. Last time you were seen in Santiago with a sex turkey, what happened?
NG: ?? 'Scuse me?
Jnlst: My pardon. What happened with a sex turkey?
NG: I'm sorry, but did you say "a sex turkey"?
Jnlst: Yes. What happened with him?

HIM?? Jesus! Now, I'll freely admit - if pushed - that I've got up to some dubious gear in the past but this guy can't really think I've had full homosexual sex with a man-turkey? Can he?

We continue...

NG: Ok. We seem to have crossed wires here. Shall we just go back to the beginning and start again? Slowly? Yes?
Jnlst: As you wish.
NG: Ok. Fire at will.
Jnlst: Sorry?
NG: Never mind, just get on with it!
Jnlst: Ok. Can you explain what it was like in Santiago with a sex turkey and how it compares with Chris Sharrock?

Now, I'm thinking, this is either a live radio comedy stunt thing or someone put acid in my tea.. unless...

NG: When you say a sex turkey, do you mean ZAK STARKEY?
Jnlst: Of course.

SEX TURKEY!

NG: Aah, Zak Starkey? You mean Zak Starkey?
Jnlst: Of course. What did you think I meant?
NG: Ha! Fuck, Zak Starkey! I thought you meant that I'd had..oh, never mind. I think we have to wrap this up.
Jnlst: But you never answer my question!!
NG: They're both the same. I need to lie down. Goodbye.

In a bit.

GD.
