Snubbing Rio Ferdinand's A Big Joke Says Noel Gallagher

Rock ’N’ Roller Noel Gallagher believes it’s “a joke” Rio Ferdinand isn’t with the England squad.

The lifelong Man City fan also prefers Man United’s Danny Welbeck to start over Andy Carroll in Wayne Rooney’s absence against France tomorrow.

But he’s breathing a sigh of relief that Eden Hazard chose Chelsea instead of City. “He was absolutely appalling for Belgium. We got away with that one,” he said.

Gallagher, formerly of Oasis, flies off today with his High Flying Birds for a four-gig tour especially designed to stop off in Kiev and Gdansk.

He has also agreed to be a roving reporter for radio station talksport.

Gallagher’s love of City is legendary but he defends Ferdinand’s right to be in the Three Lions squad.

He said: “If you are saying Rio is not one of the top seven defenders in England for ‘footballing reasons’ then someone has to explain why because it’s an absolute joke he is not going.

“I don’t get it. He is a very experienced centre-half and we are missing experienced players. I am pretty confused about it all.”

Gallagher is equally forthright on his choice of strikers to face France.

He added: “With the best will in the world, Andy Carroll is no more than an impact player at international level. I’d start with Welbeck, at least he has played in the Champions League.”

“You can see England winning all their games 1-0 – or getting beat. If we are behind at any time I will be worried, but you never know....”

Noel Gallagher A Tip To Tango

Bookies reckon Noel Gallagher is a 5/1 shout to change his mind and sign up for Strictly Come Dancing.

Bizarre revealed yesterday how the Oasis legend had been approached with a “name your price” offer by the BBC.

He said he was “flattered” – but too busy.

He might want to have a bag of sand on himself now though, go out in the first round and buy another mansion in the country.

Noel to appear as a contestant on the next series of Strictly is 5/1, his High Flying Birds to perform on the show is 20/1 and Oasis to perform is 200/1.

Below is a video of Noel Gallagher performing the first half of 'Wonderwall' at the Free Tibet concert in New York from June 7th 1997.

In March 2009 'Oasis' were banned from performing in China. The Chinese Government is said to have revoked the band's performance licences, and cancelled the two concerts they were to stage in Beijing and Shanghai in April 2009.

The promoters of the shows say that a decision to cancel them was taken after the Government realised that Noel Gallagher had appeared at a 'Free Tibet' benefit gig in the U.S. In 1997. "The Government deemed that the band are unsuitable to perform to their fans in the Chinese Republic."

Noel Gallagher Turns Down Strictly Come Dancing

Noel Gallagher has had a few surreal moments in his rock ’n’ roll career.

There was champagne with Tony Blair at Downing Street, the madness of Knebworth in ’96 and a few weeks back he watched his beloved Manchester City rip the Premier League crown from bitter rivals United in injury time on the last day of the football season.

And now the ever-ambitious BBC have given him another — a name-your-price offer for the former Oasis star to appear in sequins on Strictly Come Dancing.

It sounds like total lunacy, but it’s the first thing I’d be happy for my licence fee to be spent on since Meerkat Manor.

Last night High Flying Birds frontman Noel said: “I’m flattered. I’d have done it an’ all as I’ve recently mastered the sticky task of c***** while dancing.

“Sadly though, I’m a bit busy. Maybe next time... ”

Well, it’s not a complete knock-back.

A source at the Beeb added: “Strictly always set their targets extremely high.

“The show gets huge viewing figures and the bookers behind the show are very much of the opinion ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’. They knew from the off it was ambitious but they thought it might be something that tickled him.”

Just for one magical moment, imagine Sir Brucie of Forsyth uttering the words: “Nice to see Noel, to see Noel... ”

Then a bit of Bez-esque Wonderwaltz action and Len Goodman offering a critique. Surely followed by a swift, “F*** you” and an Ofcom complaint.

His pal Russell Brand would be proud.

Here’s a suggestion for the Beeb — arrange for a sequined Stone Island jacket and Adidas trainers to be sent to his gaff with a cheque for £1million and you might just be on the right road.

Oasis, The Beatles, Rihanna, Madonna And More Feature In The UK's Best Selling Singles Chart

The Beatles have held off artist such as Elvis Presley and Madonna to be declared the biggest selling UK singles act since charts began 60 years ago.

The Fab Four notched up 17 number ones during their relatively brief eight year chart domination, but split more than 40 years ago.

But performers whose careers have decades longer in some cases - such as Sir Cliff Richard - have failed to outsell them, a new Radio 2 chart reveals.

A countdown to be broadcast today of the all-time biggest sellers since the singles chart began in 1952 - the year the Queen took the throne - shows The Beatles are still unsurpassed.

Presley, who continued to have strong sales in the past decade thanks to a reissue campaign with tracks such as A Little Less Conversation, is ranked second.

Sir Cliff who has had 124 top 40 hits and 14 number ones finished in third place in the list compiled by the Official Charts Company.

Madonna, who has made the top 40 more than 60 times, is ranked fourth.

There are some surprising entries with Rihanna, who charted for the first time in only 2005 is in tenth place, yet The Rolling Stones - who racked up their first hit in 1963 - make it to only number 13. However, although the wrinkly rockers have continued to release singles over the years, they have failed to dent the top ten since 1981.

Tony Blackburn will count down the chart from 2pm to 5pm which shows US rapper Eminem (placed 18th) is ahead of enduring chart stars such as Sir Tom Jones and U2.

DJ and producer David Guetta (ranked 49) manages to finish ahead of big names such as Coldplay (60) and Duran Duran (51).

Sir Paul McCartney is listed twice for his Beatles years and his solo career (number 11), and George Michael is similarly in the chart twice, for his own hits (21) and as a member of Wham! (43).

Blackburn, who will play each artist's biggest hit in the Bank Holiday show , said: "This chart offers a fascinating look at the past 60 years in music and shows the impact that modern stars like Rihanna and Katy Perry have had.

"The list is really varied and will provide something for everyone. There are definitely a few surprises in store - Coldplay being at 60 for one! It is sure to be an interesting listen and will be a great way to spend the Bank Holiday afternoon."

Radio 2's head of music Jeff Smith said: "This list is intriguing, Adele is missing and we've all forgotten just how huge artists such as Shakin' Stevens, Boney M and UB40 were in the UK in the Seventies and Eighties."
