Noel Gallagher's Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Sixty Three

From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.

Yes comrades. . .

Festival season is upon us. Non-stop now. Flying here, there and everywhere.

You currently find me in the great city of Moscow. Did a festival last night with that band The Cure and a load of other bands no-one's ever heard of (Everything Is Made In China?? Nope me neither!!). Had a pretty good one. Not sure the Cure fans down the front enjoyed it though. They did look a bit miserable it has to be said. I enjoyed it anyway so fuck 'em!! Seemed to be more police there than punters.

Legged it early to watch the England-France game. Not bad. Not great but not bad. Off to the Ukraine today . . . Kiev to be exact. Never been out that far. Gonna be hot, hot, hot by all accounts!!

Enjoy the rain back home suckers!!!!!

ONWARDS.

GD.

Beady Eye Release Another New Mix

I put this mixtape together for my own entertainment towards the end of the last Beady Eye tour. It got a few plays backstage after gigs on the last UK dates, (I remember it being on after a fantastic gig in Blackpool with Hippy Mafia) and then I passed it on to Pretty Green when they asked me for some music to use this Spring in their stores and online. DJ Shadow and Stereolab tunes feature heavily as I was listening to them a lot at the time. One of the DJ Shadow tracks is a really short segment of a much longer live mix CD called Brainfreeze, which I picked up in Melbourne a few years ago - in other words, that's not me scratching it's DJ Shadow haha... get hold of the CD if you can, it's cool. (Also, the intro comes from aDJ Shadow single called High Noon). The first track, which gives the mixtape it's name, is an old Krautrock tune, the vocals may not be to everyones taste, she kind of sounds like Grace Slick meets Johnny Rotten but the band sound amazing. The Black Crowes tune Evil Eye and The Johnny Guitar Watson track are probably familiar to anyone I've ever made a compilation tape or CD for ... no apologies at all to the taste police, who will be after me for including Joan Armatrading... she's a great acoustic guitarist and I dug that CD out after probably 20 years since I last heard it... there's a hip hop cover version of a reggae tune, there's a reggae version of a rock and roll tune... there's Beck doing Black Tambourine, which reminds me (in a good way) of the long long DJ sets I used to do at Bangers and Mash in Sweden on the nights where there was no guest DJ... that's about it. Enjoy - and thanks for listening.

Liam Gallagher Designs A Cover For Shortlist Magazine

When asked about his fashion mistakes, there was only one answer Liam Gallagher was ever going to give:

"I’m sure there’s been a few but overall I’m cool as f*ck!"

As a man who is clearly sure of his sartorial choices, we decided to ask him to design one of three limited edition covers for our London Collections style special.

Click here to see Liam's spectacular effort. And for those of you eagle-eyed folk, you'll have spotted his cover bears a resemblance to legendary snapper Richard Avedon's shots of the Beatles.

Apparently, Liam has some of Avedon's images hanging in his house. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for us.

Liam Gallagher's Pretty Green To Open Store In Leeds

Rock star and fashion designer Liam Gallagher has chosen Leeds as the latest location for a branch of his clothing store Pretty Green.

The shop, in King Edward Street – part of the Victoria Quarter development – will open on Saturday.

It is the 11th store in the former Oasis frontman’s portfolio. The label’s flagship shop is in London’s Covent Garden, but it also has outlets in Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.

As well as stocking a full range of clothing and accessories – including its Black label – the store will also act as a music venue for up and coming bands.

Nigel Grant, brand director at Pretty Green, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ‘Wherever we see a demand for the brand we will act accordingly. Our on line offer is extensive and successful but stores allow customers to get up close to us.

“The label has always been about an experience and stores allow us to give our customers exactly that.’

* See this Thursday’s YEP Scene supplement for your chance to win £500 worth of Pretty Green clothing.

We’ll also be printing a voucher which will bag the first 50 who present it in store an exclusive Pretty Green gift.

Liam Gallagher Named As Top Choice To Front Queen

Gigwise readers have named Liam Gallagher as their top choice to step into the shoes of Freddie Mercury as the future frontman of Queen.

The Oasis and Beady Eye rocker topped the recent poll, pushing the current star fronting Queen, Adam Lambert, into second place.

George Michael and Paul Rodgers placed third and fourth in the poll - with both having performed with the remaining members of the band at previous events. Fifth place was Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears.

Gigwise readers were not keen on Queen taking a hip-hop direction however, with Kanye West proving the least popular artist to take up the role. Brian May's new best mate Dappy was second-least favourite with Will.i.am, Olly Murs and Lil Wayne also proving unpopular choices.

Liam Gallagher: Why I Love The Stone Roses

"The Stone Roses at International 2 in Manchester was my first ever gig. My memories are of going on my own, Billy No Mates, because all me mates into f**king throwing shapes and listening to dance music. So I went, bought a ticket off a ticket tout - and I've got no problem with ticket touts. I'll always fight for the tout because if it wasn't for that tout, f*ck knows, I'd have probably ended in a tent dancing to some daft shit. So ticket touts are alright round my way.

"Anyway bought a ticket for a tenner, went in, had a couple of beers, had a couple of joints, went down the front, checked it out. Ian Brown singing 'I Wanna Be Adored' just blew my mind, and I went home and convinced me mam that that's what I was gonna do. I mean, Ian Brown, was the man for me. When the Roses went walkies, Lennon sort of took over, but he was always important for me as a kid, as a young guy, man. He was my f**king Elvis, still is. And Ian Brown is a dude, but it's the whole band, the whole package... I'm made up for the reunion. I can't wait, I'll be at every f**king gig.

Noel Gallagher: Why I Love The Stone Roses

"They were our band, I suppose. The Roses sang in Manchester accents, they wore the same clothes, they went to the same clubs, you could see them down the same shops where you were buying your dessert boots and your flared jeans.

"But all that aside, in the cold light of day what you're left with is the music, and what it boils down to is that they wrote the greatest songs of the late '80s. I've said this to John Squire - without that band there would have not been an Oasis, because I don't think Liam would have bothered joining Bonehead's group, and subsequently I wouldn't have bothered joining Liam's group.

"In the early days of Oasis, we definitely sounded a lot more like The Stone Roses. John Squire's always been a guitarist I've admired. I think he's a brilliant guitarist. I used to try and rip off a lot of things he was doing. The Stone Roses kicked the door open for guitar music in the lats '80s. We were credited with the renaissance of British guitar music in the '90s, and I'm having that because we have done a lot for that form of music, but without the Roses... They opened the door for us.

What Oasis Songs Will Beady Eye Play This Summer?

Beady Eye will play live later this month at Warrington's Parr Hall, ahead of the band supporting The Stone Roses at Heaton Park in Manchester.

The band will also travel to Japan and Korea in July for two festival shows.

Speaking earlier this year Liam Gallagher said: "We're doing Fuji Festival in Japan, which is in July. And we will be dropping Oasis songs for anyone who's bothered".

"The time is right now, without a doubt. We were always going to do it, but we thought the [Beady Eye] album needed to stand on its own. We've done some good gigs, we've done some shit gigs. And it's time to drop them in now. Everyone else is. I feel they're just as much my songs as they are Noel's. And if people don't like it, go to the bar or fuck off. If they do like it, jump up and down, let's have a good time."

What Oasis songs would you like to see Beady Eye play live this Summer?
