Bradley Wiggins
Noel Gallagher
Oasis
The Jam
Bradley Wiggins shocked revellers at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year after-party by jumping on stage and belting out a few of his favourite mod songs with an impromptu guitar session.
The Tour de France champion, who claimed the top prize at last night’s glitzy event, celebrated his win in style by rocking out to classic hits by The Jam and Oasis with the hired band.
Wiggins hopped on stage and first asked the musicians if they knew The Jam classic ‘That Entertainment’, which they didn’t.
Not wanting to ruin a good party, they followed his lead, but with the Team Sky cyclist reluctant to sing, he invited anyone who fancied it to get up and give it a go, with a security guard eventually obliging.
Wiggins then requested the band join him in a rendition of Oasis smash hit ‘Wonderwall’, which he lead on guitar while the band’s singer belted out Noel Gallagher’s classic anthem with the help of the crowd.
The Sports Personality of the Year then took the party to trendy London nightclub Whiskey Mist, where he celebrated until 3am.

Cold Committee

James Cairns

Liam Gallagher
Oasis
Pretty Green
Sam Hughes
They're the stylish Welsh band taking the first steps to stardom thanks to Liam Gallagher – and a chance Facebook connection.
Cold Committee so impressed Gallagher that he invited the youngsters to play a series of dates at his Pretty Green shops around the UK.
The four-piece from Prestatyn and Rhyl are hoping their career now goes Supersonic and they quickly become Rock ‘n’ Roll Stars after the lucky Facebook encounter resulted in a meeting with the former Oasis frontman.
The outfit – James Cairns, 19, Sam Hughes, 19, Adam Bass, 20, and Jordan Samuel, 20 – linked up with London-based actor Frankie Rizzo, who liked them so much he offered to manage the band.
“I saw a photo on Facebook of Frankie and Liam and I thought I’ll add Frankie, and then I sent him some songs over and asked if he could have a listen and tell me what he thought,” recalls singer and guitarist James.
“Then he came back and said ‘I’m interested and I’d actually like to start managing you’. It was as simple as that.”
Their manager played friend Liam the band’s demos and the rock star offered them the gigs at Gallagher’s clothes stores in Leeds, Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Newcastle before rounding off with a gig at the store in Covent Garden in London.
“Liam really liked the songs, obviously he’s a mate of Frankie’s but he had to be into the tracks for us to go on the tour,” adds the musician.
It’s been a whirlwind few months for the band formed just five months ago and who started out playing covers in holiday camps around North Wales.
“The Pretty Green gigs have given us incredible exposure,” says James. “It’s all been a bit difficult to take in. We never thought we’d be at this stage in just a few months, it’s all happened so fast.
Last night we played the last date of the tour in London it was and probably the best one yet.
“We got some free clothes, free T-shirts and polos which was great. We look the part!”
And they even got the chance to be starstruck when they met the larger-than-live singer.
“Well, it was weird because we were heading down to London for a gig at The Purple Turtle in Camden and we were playing Oasis songs in the car when my mobile rang.
“It was Frankie who was down in London at a pub with Liam. He said Liam wants to meet you, so we went and a had a few beers with him before our gig.
“We had a chat, he told us a few rock ‘n’ roll tales but mainly he was giving us advice.
“We are all massive Oasis fans so we were thrilled.”
The band’s adventure look sets to continue with James letting slip there is record company interest, but he adds the band are determined to keep their feet firmly on the ground.
“Sony are interested, and Mercury, but it’s early days yet. We want to take it step by step. Hopefully next year we can hit it hard and 2013 can be a big year for us.”

Scott Rodger

The manager of Beady Eye, Quest's Scott Rodger, has told Music Week that Liam Gallagher's new album could be the the best LP that the ex-Oasis man has ever recorded.
Rodger, who also manages the likes of Arcade Fire, Paul McCartney and Noah & the Whale, features in a four-page Big Interview in the new Music Week magazine.
Of all the albums on Quest’s roster, Rodger said he may be most enthused about the second record from Beady Eye – Liam Gallagher’s post-Oasis band, which also features Andy Bell and Gem Archer.
The group started recording the record in London last month with TV On The Radio guitarist and producer Dave Sitek, who has also worked behind the desk on albums from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars, CSS and Foals.
The currently unnamed album, the follow-up to 2011's Different Gear, Still Speeding, is due for release in the first half of 2013.
Explained Rodger: “It’s probably the most exciting record I’ve worked on for as long as I can remember. Everyone thinks they know exactly what record Beady Eye are going to deliver, but they’ve completely turned it on its head.
“I think Liam Gallagher is making the best album of his entire career. That’s a big statement because he’s made some classic records - usually with his brother’s songs. But Beady Eye are very talented players and writers and are technically fantastic.
“Gem Archer is an amazing engineer and producer. Both he and Andy Bell will produce records for other people at some point, I’m sure. They pretty much made the record this year in Gem’s studio in his basement. They were writing all year and did what a lot of bands do: they wrote about nine or 10 songs and then said, ‘We’re ready to go with the album.’
“We encouraged them to keep writing until August or September and lo and behold, they wrote 21 songs – and some of the later songs were the best ones. Then we had to find a producer. We wanted to get someone in who’d take [the album] from a 7/10 to a 9/10.
“I was on a plane to New York for a best friend’s wedding thinking, ‘Who can I call?’. Then I thought of [TV On The Radio producer] Dave Sitek – who I associate with New York and great records. I sent him the demos and a link to the studio after being told he’d never leave his LA home. He gets straight back to me to say, ‘I’m there.’
“Now they’ve tracked 21 songs in nine days [in London]. Sitek called at 6pm the other night to say, ‘I need a brass section. Get me a brass section now.’ Everyone in the [Quest] building was calling to sort it for him, and we did – within two hours it was recorded. It was a track that was never going to make the album, but Sitek completely changed the vibe and now it’s an amazing song.
“They have a couple of songs that are just unbelievable, mind-blowing. Everyone’s going to be shocked when they hear this record. It’s not like anything Liam’s ever recorded before."
